In this video we will visit Alsace crossing the Route des Vins d’Alsace, from Strasbourg to Colmar.

With its German dialect and the cult of typical French beauty, with its wines and beers, Alsace seems like a suspended region, with vineyards and pastel-coloured villages all around.

Traveling along the Route des Vins is the best way to discover Alsace and the incredible views that this blessed land can offer.

You can travel the five steps of the Route des Vins by bike or on foot, as each is around 20-25 kilometres.

WHAT TO VISIT:
Strasbourg is a medieval city with half-timbered houses that look like they came out of the fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers, it is home to the European Parliament and is the second largest student community in France.

The first step of the Route des Vins is from Strasbourg to Mutzig, and it is a functional route, to reach the vineyards, without anything too interesting.

The second day is from Mutzig to Barr, crossing Obernai, a wine-growing town with half-timbered houses and a picturesque city wall.

For the third day we cycled from Barr to Sélestat.
Mittelbergheim is a quiet, not very touristy destination, with a center crossed by tiny streets, overlooked by sand-colored houses with red roofs.
Dambach-la-Ville is surrounded by vineyards and mighty bastions, and is home to around 60 wine cellars.
In Sélestat it is possible to admire many church spires, among which the Gothic one dedicated to Saint-Georges is really special.

On the fourth day you can move from Sélestat to Ribeauvillé.
Bergheim is enclosed by a mighty 14th century wall, and I recommend you take the 2 km path that follows the city bastions.
Ribeauvillé is a must-stop along the Route des Vins, and the first winemakers’ cooperative in France was founded here.

The last day of the Route des Vins is also the most full of attractions.
On the slope of a hill just outside the center of Hunawihr stands a 16th century fortified church, immersed in a breathtaking landscape.
Riquewihr is probably the most charming town located along the Route des Vins and, consequently, it is also the most crowded with tourists. You are better off visiting early in the morning or in the evening.
Kaysersberg is an optional stop, it includes a small deviation from the route
and is immersed in a panorama of gentle hills, on which the castle sits.

Last but not least, at the end of the Route des Vins, here is Colmar! Colmar seems to come out of the pages of a medieval storybook and is the capital of the Alsatian wine region.

WHY VISIT ALSACE
Well, what did I bring home from this trip: the fairy-tale villages, the sound of my steps among the silent cobbled alleys, the sparkling green of the vineyards, but above all the smiles of the Alsatian people, their kindness and welcome, which made us feel deeply at home.
