  1. It would appear whoever your mechanic is has never even seen a rim brake before. You know they're supposed to be pre tensioned so they grab early in the stroke, right?

  2. This screams China having excess production capacity and some CCP official turning the screws to flood the West with products, undercutting their rivals, despite being a massive loss leader, to keep factories going.

  3. defiantly represents good value, Plus as its so cheap you could spend some extra cash and get the brakes sorted…..perfect for the cyclist that just wants to ride

  4. There’s no chance it’d save you £2500 over a year. Because those cheap chain rings and the wheels I could actually see flexing wouldn’t last more than a month of daily use. I’d actually like to see you do a long term test on it just to see how much would break.

  5. Not GCN tech putting a brand new Dura-Ace on the Retro-Mod build, Sounds like this bike's getting that groupset after that project. HAHAHAHA

  6. I'd probably buy one…and upgrade the transmission to SENSAH 2×10 speed, change the brake pads/brake caliper set, and change the tires to schwalbe marathon
then use it an all-weather commuter bike

I love modding these types of "cheap" bikes….

  7. The brake blocks were too far away from the rims. Adjust them. And if need be replace them with a set of good quality blocks for under £10. You could have mentioned this at least, a set of new brake blocks and some adjustment would have solved the 'no brakes' issue. A five-ten minute do-it-yourself job. Nice bike for the price!

  8. You forgot to mention your high end bikes are extremely expensive and don't have a bell! And, yes, why walk, drive or ride (a bus, a train or anything else) if you can cycle.

  9. Replace the drop handlebars and road brake levers with flat bars and basic mtb brake levers, adjust the brakes properly and you've got a decent cheap commuter bike although I doubt the tyres have much puncture protection. An interesting experiment would be to lock the Cross bike with a basic D lock to a bike stand near GCN megabase and next to it lock an old tatty bike with a lock from a pound shop and see which one gets stolen first.

  10. A bicycle is safe in the shed, but bicycles weren't designed for that were they ?
Upgrade few items, – be a usable bicycle. Pity about the weight though. Could try hacksawing the top tube completely off, might bring the weight down a tad.

  11. ⭐⭐⭐Nearly ended up in hospital
That is indeed an exceptionally forgiving review. What would the lower ones be for her?
⭐⭐ I died, but was luckily resuscitated and only left partially paralysed.

  12. 800 CNY for a real road bike is considered cheap in China too!I am not confident to find a brand new road bike with this price tag in China.

  13. It reminds me of my first bike at 18. I’d gotten sick of the train to uni. It was a 100AUD Royce Union racer. The brakes worked about the same as in the video but were sort of usable after adjusting.

  14. To be fair it looks like the perfect student bike.. something cheap your gunna use for short commutes for a few years before more than likely changing location.

  15. looks like the brake hoods are mounted on the wrong part of the drops… a bit of a faff to fix for someone spending £82 on a bike and probably not knowing how too. bars need rotating downwards and the hoods need sliding up…. I’m sure the braking could be massively improved by taking out all the slack and getting better pads if need be. but I still think it’s a perfect student bike.. use it for a couple of years to get to lectures and then throw it in your local canal.
