Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) refers to three bodies of water on the Rhine at the northern foot of the Alps: Upper Lake Constance (Obersee), Lower Lake Constance (Untersee), and a connecting stretch of the Rhine, called the Seerhein. The lake is situated where Germany, Switzerland, and Austria meet. Its shorelines lie in the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria; the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen, Thurgau, and Schaffhausen; and the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.
Constance (German: Konstanz) is located on the border with Switzerland at the source of the Rhine River from Lake Constance.
The symbol of the city is the monument “Empire”, located on the coast of the Station Bay of Lake Constance. The monument was created in the form of a half-naked female courtesan, whose image is taken from Balzac’s novel “The Beautiful Empire”.
The most populous towns on the Upper Lake are Constance (German: Konstanz), Friedrichshafen, Bregenz, Lindau, Überlingen and Kreuzlingen.

Meersburg Castle (German: Burg Meersburg), also known as the Alte Burg (English: Old Castle), in Meersburg on Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is considered to be one of the oldest inhabited castles in Germany.
