Good Sunday ride. Stopped for coffee and then thought we might as well walk through the town of Bale and have lunch here. Narrow, cobbled streets built around the medieval castle of the noble families Sardo and Bembo from the 15th century.
Lots of renovation being carried out. This had been on our original route as a stopping spot. Area of olive oil and wine. Lots of olive groves with quite old trees. Coming into the truffle area. Then on to our destination – Rovinj on the coast. Another old town with a huge church topping the hill. Some of the town houses rising directly from the water. Lots of narrow, cobbled streets full of art galleries, craft shops, and the usual cafes, bars and restaurants. Promenade along the Marina. Lots of bikes. Rain was threatening so we decided to find a snug corner restaurant under cover. Was a good choice – grilled sardines & grilled calamari. Staff were really friendly and were playing some interesting music. Rain was only a drizzle so our umbrella from the apartment was only very briefly used.
