Hey everybody,
I recently went tubeless on my road bike but had to redo the rim tape due to leaking air/sealant but had a heck of a time trying to clean the rim from the adhesive. Tried isopropyl alcohol to no success. Should I tatty to remove as much as I can or should it be fine to tape over?

    1. Try odorless mineral spirits. You can pick it up at any hardware or home improvement store in the paint section.

    2. Original Goo Gone is legit. It did better removing the 40 year old residue from bar tape than isopropanol, acetone or mineral spirits did. It will be the first thing I would try on adhesive residue going forward.

    3. yes, the cleaner the surface the longer the new tape job will hold.

i’ve had decent success with wd40 to remove the glue and then alcohol to remove the dw40. some rim tapes are tougher than others, so ymmv.
