Playa de Muro is the longest sandy beach in Mallorca, and includes four sections that cover a total of about six kilometers. Located in the town of Muro, next to Port d’AlcΓΊdia, on the northeast coast of the island, each of the four beaches that make up Playa de Muro are white sand, some with sand dunes. Playa de Muro is an ideal beach for all age groups and serves both tourists and local residents. It is a highly popular beach with families due to its easy access, restaurants, facilities on the beach itself, activities focused on the little ones, such as children’s areas, and the exceptional surface waters, in which it is necessary to walk quite far to get started. to notice its depth. Playa de Muro forms a very popular starting point for a holiday, with large hotels and rental apartments within walking distance of the beach. Playa de Muro is considered one of the 20 best beaches in Mallorca. The beach in section 1, known simply as Playa de Muro, is located just 3 kilometers from AlcΓΊdia beach. About Sa Comu beach
Section 2 is slightly quieter, but from there you have easy access to the same facilities. As you approach Sector 3, also known as Sa Comu, the beach is quieter, with facilities and access being a longer walk, although parking can be found at both ends of this 1.5 kilometer beach. . This section is part of the S’Albufera natural park, and sand dunes and pine trees surround this natural stretch of beach. Finally, Sector 4, called Es Capellans, is starting to become more popular again with all the restaurants, hotels and facilities on the beachfront. This final sector is located near the popular Can Picafort resort.
All of these beaches have plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent, as well as plenty of space to lay out your towel if you prefer to be directly on the sand. The shallow crystal clear waters along Playa de Muro are generally quite calm, but on windy days the surfing can improve, with small, choppy waves.
In Playa de Muro you will find water sports everywhere, such as pedalos, kite surfing, wind surfing or stand-up paddling on paddle boards, just to name a few. The long wooden promenade with cafes, restaurants, hotels and shops, small parks and facilities, constitutes an additional complement that makes this area the main holiday destination during the summer months, especially for Germans, English and Scandinavians. The local tourist office and doctor’s office can also be found here. The neighboring town of Muro has supermarkets and pharmacies.
Despite its large size, Playa de Muro has managed to remain one of the cleanest and most ecologically responsible beaches on the island, and is proud to fly the prestigious blue flag. Es Capellans, Sector 4 of Playa de Muro, is the only beach in this area that does not have blue flag recognition. Playa de Muro is easily accessible by car or bus (regular connections leave from Alcudia or Can Picafort), with great paid parking availability. If you are staying in the surrounding area, we recommend cycling or walking for even easier access. Sectors 1, 2 and 4 are the most easily accessible by wheelchairs and by the disabled, as they have the wooden walkways and parking closest to the beach. Changing facilities with showers and toilets are located a short distance from the beach, something that families particularly appreciate. Taxis are also available and can take you from town to any of the various sections of the beach.
Lifeguard stations are open in all four sections of the beach and offer warning flags about water conditions. The waters are well marked with flags and buoys, indicating the areas for swimming, for practicing water sports and for boats.
