    Bonjour!
I invite you to join me as I candidly share the unexpected realities, challenges, and profound personal growth that have shaped my experience as an American expat living in France.

Through a heartfelt one-on-one interview, I open up about the true essence of my journey.
As I navigate the charming streets of Versailles and the idyllic French countryside, I reflect on how my perceptions have evolved and how France has forever changed me in ways I never could have anticipated.

Through my lens, you’ll discover that moving to France is not merely a change of address, but a transformative experience that challenges one’s preconceptions and invites a deeper understanding of oneself and the world around us.

As I prepare for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024, a symbol of unity and global celebration, I contemplate the ways in which my journey has prepared me to embrace new adventures with an open heart and a profound appreciation for the unexpected.

I invite you to read my debut article, “How to Get a Passport Fast,” a practical and romantic guide to navigating the intricacies of international travel, available on my website, janiceinfrance.com/janice-in-france-articles.

And, as always, I extend a warm welcome to my vibrant community at janiceinfrance.com/community, a sanctuary for those seeking connection, inspiration, and support as they navigate their own extraordinary journeys.

    1. Bonjour Janice, Just discovered your posting and what a pleasant surprise. I love your bob hair cut and your light as air, cultivated voice. So, I plan to join you in your days ahead, though on my sofa with a cup of tea and the California hub-bub around the corner. Au revoir

    2. So nice to see you back Janice. When you were answering the questions you seemed to be very pensive when answering. Glad you are still happy in France. BTW red is a stunning colour on you and I agree with you about putting on lipstick 💄……….🤗🇨🇦

    3. Great job, Janice! Your reflections about the pace of life in France and the freedom we gain from adaptation is spot on. I am 69 and moved to the Dordogne from the States almost 3 years ago. It hasn't always been easy but life in this beautiful and charming country is well worth it. Take care!

    4. On a smaller scale….I moved to Florida from PA a job transfer…everyone said oh how wonderful beaches everyday!!! No we work and pay bills…it's not a vacation….lol

    5. I put a notice on my iPhone calendar several months before my passport (6-8 months), driver’s license (3-4 weeks), and other items that need to be renewed come due. So far this has worked.

    6. You are a classy lady with a beautiful life, I love your zest for life and doing it your way. My question is, how do you adapt to the smelly people, when you are not and do you have rats where live, like in Paris? That to me kills it.

    7. beautiful soothing voice, beautiful interesting informative presentation thank you! of course you have a desire to write, you are a natural, first thought when I started your video was, Janice must be a writer as all description is beautiful and beautifully expressed.

    8. Thanks for your interesting, intelligent, thoughtful and refreshing expose on your new life in France. You’re basically living my dream xxx Enjoy!

    9. Thank you for your interesting vlogs. I fantasize about doing what you have done. I probably never will but you give me food for thought. I hope to someday soon read your book. I wonder if you knew anyone there before moving and how well. Bravo

    10. Thank you for this lovely and interesting video. I was wondering where you were lol. I don't always comment but always like. ❤ Keep enjoying your life. Fantastic job. 👍👌😊

    11. Hi Janice, I use my husbands Youtube pic, I'm really a female subscriber/admirer from Frisco Tx! May I say this is such and enjoyable post, thank you for your heartfelt sharing. May I say also, your hair looks so flattering, perfectly compliments you! France is beautifully transforming you, and you France!

    12. Your reflections are wonderful. Our experience was quite the opposite. We are French Canadian and we purchased a chateau to renovate. The entire experience was abysmal. So abysmal that once we completed our project, we returned home and happy we did. My husband stated he loved everything French except the people. Note that we are both career diplomats and are very educated in diplomacy and tact.

    13. Having lived in a number of countries on different continents I have found that people, no matter where they live, are the same in many respects: they are busy with school, work, family, paying bills, getting ahead in life. Most haven't even seen a lot of their own countries. Many haven't visited nearby historic or cultural sites. They don't seem to view their environment as romantic or exotic. The stereotypes associated with different nationalities may have a degree of truth but they are nevertheless stereotypes; with globalization they are even less accurate, especially in Europe where the demographics are changing. I remember a Woody Allen film in which Allen walks down a street in Paris wearing a beret and carrying a baguette. Everyone in the cinema laughed – laughed because we all knew that Allen was living out the image so many have of Paris. It's often the foreigner who appreciates what locals take for granted or fail to appreciate.

    14. It’s great to see you starting a Substack! I just subscribed and eagerly awaiting your first post! I am also a former teacher from the US who has been living abroad for the last decade and have created a Substack to discuss books, writing, and travel😊

    16. Well, that was good.

Y'all = tout le monde? perhaps.

We've been here 25 years and no regrets. anglais. just came over for a look and didn't go back.

    17. Y'all is: "vous tous" as in "Salut vous tous" , but not used as an expression.
I understand you; I never "got" Picasso until I studied his work.
I just found you, "chapeau chère dame".
      Santé! 🥂

    18. Janice, this video was all inspiring. I can relate to “no longer getting up in the dark”. You look amazing. Sending Blissings from Ontario Canada. 💜🇨🇦💜
