If These Divers Didn’t Capture This, No One Would Believe This!
Deep in the ocean’s darkness, divers risk their lives for glimpses of hidden treasures. Each dive is a dance with danger, revealing relics and creatures from another time. Imagine stumbling upon a giant squid, a living relic usually hidden in deep waters, now dying in the shallows. Nearby, an immense squid egg sack floats, a spectacle rarely seen by human eyes. What if these sights had remained hidden in the deep, witnessed by none? Join us to explore more incredible finds that almost escaped belief.
In January 2023, in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, diver Yosuke Tanaka and his wife had an amazing underwater experience. Local fishers mentioned a huge creature nearby, so the couple dived into the cold waters and saw a giant squid. This squid was 26 feet long and usually lives in depths between 1,000 to 2,000 feet. Seeing this massive creature in shallower waters showed it was near the end of its life, reminding us of the natural cycle of life in the ocean.
But this wasn’t the only fascinating discovery. Not far from the giant squid, another marvel was found—a giant squid egg sack. In October 2019, Ronald Rash was diving near a World War II shipwreck off the coast of Norway when he saw a strange, transparent blob floating in the water. This was an egg sack from a southern short-fin squid, big enough to be mistaken for a human-sized object. Inside were 50,000 to 200,000 potential squids. This gelatinous sphere was made from squid ink and mucus, giving a glimpse into the reproductive secrets of these elusive sea creatures.
