A leisure cycle ride from Bournemouth, Wareham, Norden, Swanage, Studland and the coast of Sandbanks back to Bournemouth taking in the summer scenery of Dorset.

We visit Norden Railway Station, part of the Swanage and Norden Steam Railway. We then take in the crystal clear sea waters of Swanage and then later returning to Norden to cycle down to the tip of the peninsular and make our way over to Sandbanks, one of the most expensive places to live in the UK. We then take a relaxing journey back to Bournemouth to end our day.

I’ve had this ride planned in my note book for a while. I really wanted to take my bike on the chain ferry and after my first overnight two day ride I did last year in Dartmoor, Torquay and Dawlish, I decided that an overnight ride should be done as a summer special every year and this was the ride I decided would be the one.

During the train planning a day or so before I was due to go I realised that the trains just wouldn’t work for me if I was just going to stay one night. Even leaving early in the morning I would have had to cut much of my riding short and wouldn’t have the slower paced relaxing days I wanted. Also getting cycle reservations on the three different trains I needed was difficult. So I rearranged things to travel a day later and leaving Wales after rush hour and add an extra night stay in the hotel.

With the Severn Railway Tunnel closed for maintenance it would be a longer journey via Gloucester but with rewarding scenery along a railway track I’ve never travelled on before. It was a slow track for the express train and along with the delays and slowed train from Reading down to Bournemouth I eventually arrived nearly five hours later. Despite feeling a little worn towards the end of the journey – it was worth it.

While this film is Day One, we arrive on Day Zero where I take a little walk along the beaches of Bournemouth to relax after the long train journey and prepare for our cycle ride the next day.

I hope you enjoy this cycle film. Day Two will follow in the coming weeks.

    1. Yet again, thank you Madison for taking me along on day 1 of your travels . Railways, waterways, country lanes and villages look so beautiful in the sunshine. I almost got a suntan watching your video. Question… what style of clothes do you wear when you're not cycling ? What time are we up tomorrow for day 2 ?

    2. Wow Madison, your expeditions really are something. Must take a lot of planning. Makes my little rides look hopeless!
As always I loved the piano pieces 😊- You could make a video just playing your music! Love seeing steam trains always.
Looking forward to the next instalment – enjoy the editing!
      Jeff.

    3. Well your standards keep going up and up !!. My husband was smiling when you stuffed cloths into your bag, he is ex navy and kept everything neat and tidy!!!. The one part we both enjoyed was the postcard!!!! all this technology and the simple postcard gets written and posted. Pure Bliss !XXX

    4. Perfect summer cycling video! Must have taken forever to plan, film and edit, but I 'm sure we're all grateful you made the effort. Many thanks. The postcard hasn't arrived yet but I 'll keep an eye out! 🙂

    5. Perfect timing this afternoon (Aussie time) as I just got back from a 25km coastal ride too. Late lunch, kick back and watch your latest video. Dorset, Steam Trains and glorious weather. Doesn’t get much better than that! Great stuff🙂

    6. Nice. 👍 The offroad bit with all the gates is part of the Dorset dirt dash route, I was surprised how deep the sand was in places when I rode it 2 years ago.

I encountered a "rave" in full swing out in the middle of nowhere, lots of "wasted" youths in bucket hats wondering about and a Police helicopter!

It did cross my mind that I should sell them my green electrolyte tabs for 20 quid a pop and scarper before they twigged they weren't what they thought………….🤣

    7. Oh Mads you've done a real cracker on this one I totally loved it, I even had a word with my mate Gary and told him what you just did for him. 😉 I can't wait for part 2. PS: I do appreciate a train too 👍🏻 ..
