Name
The park was once a rare forest. It was known as the Gog’s Stans, as they were cattle stans held by Vlohs, or “gogs” in the folk language. Another name was the Hills of St. Prokop, since there was also the Orthodox church of the same name.
History
The park was built on a green space where the animals of the Vlal families of Tirana once grazed.
The lake was built in 1955 with volunteer work using several waterways in the area. In 1957, architect Valentina Pistoli gave ideas for the entire complex of the lake hills and the artworks in it. The project was attended by a group of Bulgarian engineers led by architect Zheko Zhikov in 1961. The new 1990s was the first time the
Inside the park is the memorial of 45 British soldiers who fell during World War II, as well as the monumental and symbolic tombs of the Brothers FrashĂ«ri (Rilindas of the 19th century), and The Struci Konica. In the large park is also the tirana pool complex. The body of Faik Konica was brought to Albania by the UNITED States in 1998. Inside the large park there is also an amphitheater, called tirana’s Open Theatre, built within the park in 1974 where various cultural activities are held, mainly during the summer period.
A dam about 400 m prevents water from flowing towards Tirana. There is a road on which only pedestrians walk. At the western end of the dam is the only zoo of Albania and a few kilometers away from the Botanic Garden of Tirana.
The surface
The eastern part of the Park extended to the Hospital “The Ndroqi”. Between the Road of Tirana and the hospital, the park has been deforested over time and mostly private houses are built. The 2000-1990s was
The edges of the park have been constantly touched to make room for new constructions and especially several-storeys north of the park.
