Royal Enfield has showcased a one-off custom 850cc adventure bike at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. Although this is a bored-out version based on the 650cc platform, Royal Enfield could be looking at entering the middleweight segment with a bigger adventure bike. The one-off rally bike is built in partnership with David Gwyther of Death Spray Custom. The motorcycle is inspired by the Dakar Rally racing bikes from the 1980s and 1990s. The bike will be officially unveiled at the Goodwood FOS and displayed from 4-7 July. Death Spray Custom’s inspiration came from the Yamaha Tenere and Honda Africa Twin racing machines from 1988 to 1991. According to David Gwyther, the idea was to develop a modern-day rally bike with similar power figures and styling from that era. The motorcycle is finished in light pastel pink and purple shades and follows the modern-retro design theme, similar to the Ducati DesertX. It gets an analogue-styled map book upfront and period-correct graphics for the body panels. The Royal Enfield 850cc adventure bike features a tweaked chassis from Harris Performance, adjustable Ohlins suspension, and a custom swingarm and exhaust system from Harris Performance. It rides on spoke wheels wrapped on rally-spec, knobby tyres. The 850cc custom rally bike could be Royal Enfield’s signal of intent to offer us a preview of what to expect from the bike maker in the future. While that remains unconfirmed, we are highly interested in the idea of an 850cc, parallel-twin adventure motorcycle from Royal Enfield.
