Another hot day, needing water refills and seeking shade.
Up to 35deg today with a warm wind. Needed a few shady stops. Visited the castle before leaving town – treated to a cannon bang. Also the Đurdevac sands. Small amount of time with traffic, rest on quiet country roads. Harvest is cranking up, with tractors moving around a lot. More corn, sunflowers (some just peeking out to wave at us). It will be a beautiful sight in 2 weeks. Canola, barley, tobacco. Large acreages. Stork hatchlings perched high in a number of villages.
First stop in Slatina was the bar – ice & water bottle refill, radler & beer. Locals here watching Croatia v Albania. 1.5 km to our accom which we know is uphill. Well, the last hill was a doozey, only 900m but up to 16%. Needless to say, some riding and a little bit walking. Got a real sweat up with that one. All the locals in the bar at our hotel watching Croatia play Albania. We joined them. Bikes parked with a view. Our accom is not doing dinner tonight- shame. Walk back into town. Short cut through huge cemetery. Still hot. Dinner at Kavana Elida. Ćevapi, Ajvar, cucumbers. And walk back up the hill. Nearly a full moon.
