In a stage that was animated by numerous breakaway attempts, Marc Hirschi of Team Sunweb succeeded in reaching the summit of the Col de la Hourcere ahead of an eight-man chasing group by over two minutes and almost three minutes over the chasing peloton led by Jumbo Visma. Hirschi continued his impressive escape even as he reached for the summit of the Col de Marie Blanque. Hirschi managed to keep the chasing peloton almost four minutes behind. However, with the knowledge that their rest day was to follow an overly aggressive peloton was charging towards him. Among them the young phenom Tadej Pogacar.
