The London to Southend bike ride is an annual tradition for many cycling enthusiasts, and this year marked my 15th ride, which I did with Justin, Rich, and Paul.
Unlike last year, the weather was on our side. We enjoyed a tailwind for most of the ride, accompanied by warm, cloudy skies. The mild conditions made for a pleasant journey, enhancing our overall experience.
One notable change this year was the return to the Woodford Bridge and Chigwell hills at the start. I missed the early stretch through the Essex countryside that the 2022 route offered.
Due to a windmill open day, we missed the food stop at Mountnessing Windmill. This was a bit of a letdown since it’s a favourite rest point for many riders. Despite this, we managed to stay fueled and motivated throughout the ride.
Despite the route changes and missed stops, the ride was fantastic. The camaraderie, the challenge, and the joy of cycling through beautiful landscapes made it a memorable experience. I’m already looking forward to next year’s ride!
