Today I didn't have such a nice day…
I graduated last year and my dream was always to have a racing bike. After saving for a long time, I was finally able to buy a bicycle, cycling clothing, Garmin watch, you name it… I am/was extremely happy with this. I have had my bike and other items that I have enjoyed a lot since 3 months ago. Today I went cycling and a stray dog without an owner flew towards me, so I had to make an emergency stop. I fell hard on the ground and almost all my stuff was broken, my new watch, damage to my bicycle, cycling clothing, helmet, glasses,… there was no one around and I called my father to come help. I just wanted to vent, it really is a shitty feeling to save for so long for something that is now all destroyed in the snap of a finger, what a shitty day.

  1. It’s a bummer man. Heal up, put your attention on your wounds and be sure to watch out for concussion symptoms. Clean up the road rash. Tegaderm works wonders for bandaging your shoulder. Gauze and medical fishnet will help on your elbow.

Take care of yourself first and then triage the bike. Getting a new helmet is essential.

Crashes happen. Take the opportunity to learn to recover.

  2. I’m sorry that it happened to you, but try to focus on your recovery instead of looking at a scuffed bike.
Recovering from a crash 3 months ago, I would say stuff doesn’t matter – our health matters the most.
Wish you a fast recovery, man!

  3. Shit day man.

Just as an FYI, all these companies actually do genuinely value their customers. Garmin and Trek are pretty damn good. Send them an email or go into the local trek shop if you have one and let them know what happened, they may help you out with some courtesy discounts for replacement stuff. If you send them the receipts for everything showing how little time you’ve owned the stuff, they may help you out a little.

I got a flat after hitting a pothole after swerving to avoid a car coming out of a junction and destroyed my rear tire and tube. Trek did me solid and gave me 50% off a new tire and tube no questions asked.
