Pogacar wins his first stage at the Tour de France
In a stage that was animated by numerous breakaway attempts, Marc Hirschi of Team Sunweb succeeded in reaching the summit of the Col de la Hourcere ahead of an eight-man chasing group by over two minutes and almost three minutes over the chasing peloton led by Jumbo Visma. Hirschi continued his impressive escape even as he reached for the summit of the Col de Marie Blanque. Hirschi managed to keep the chasing peloton almost four minutes behind. However, with the knowledge that their rest day was to follow an overly aggressive peloton was charging towards them. To make matters worse a four-man chase group had managed to escape the current yellow jersey wearer, Adam Yates, and were now gunning to run down the escape artist Hirschi. This group consisted of three of the best riders in the world and an upstart in his first Tour de France. Egan Bernal, the defending champion, Primoz Roglic leader of the Jumbo Visma squad, Mikel Landa the veteran Basque rider, and the Slovenian kid Tadej Pogacar.
