    1. On the local tours, the gendarmes usually block-off the roads on a rolling basis. They operate the same way, the police protection motorcylists do in the UK. I got stopped on the way to my holiday destination for about 15 minutes whilst the "Caravan" of riders and support vehicles steamed through.

When the national Tour de France goes through, everything in the locality gets shut off. I tried one year to see the Tour go through Chateaulain, Finistere. Setting off early doors on
the morning of the race coming through, I was only able to get to half-a-mile of it. For the national, you need to be there the day before and then find a nook and park-up overnight.

On the subject of hotels, there are some cracking ones (And some "Faded Glory" ones) in the West and South-West. But you need to fork out the akkers to play.

    2. I wonder how the Gendarmerie would deal with the unrest like we had in Leeds the other day ? as the UK is getting really bad with these Immigrants kicking off , I know in Paris they have a lot of issues too but nowhere near as bad as its getting here , Maybe time to leave the UK ? France looks so laid back and peaceful compared to England.

    3. Long awaited part 12!
BTW in France, if a public holiday falls on a Thursday, a lot of employers give the Friday off too. I get the feeling we have more bank holidays here in France than in the UK, unless they fall on a weekend. Then we lose out (no bank holiday Monday rule here you know?).
ZI's & ZA's are usually a bit sh*t… Quite why hotels are put in those zones is beyond me…
