AFP journalist Christina Assi, who was targeted by Israeli forces in Lebanon, takes part in the Olympic torch relay in Vincennes, France.

To pay tribute to journalists killed on duty, Christina Assi, escorted by her colleague Dylan Collins who was also wounded in the same attack, carried the olympic torch ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, set to begin on Friday 26 July.

“Carrying the Olympic Flame is an emotional experience, particularly after surviving a targeted attack while I was on assignment. My story is just one among many others in a year that has claimed the lives of over a hundred journalists,” Assi told L’orient Today.

A targeted Israeli attack in South Lebanon on October 13, 2023, resulted in the murder of Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah, and among the six journalists injured were Christina Assi, who suffered severe injuries leading to the partial amputation of her leg.

    1. Izzy needs to be exiled from every single sporting event.
Not to mention to stand for war crimes. We are all calling for it but corrupt governments are not listening. This is some sick, twisted mentality running this genocide. Shameful.
