We welcome you to the new Organ House African music conversation entitled ‘The African Music Series.’ This colloquium/lecture series explores the deep-rooted connections and interplays between music, society, and development. Here, the notion of ‘development’ is understood broadly, and it encompasses the shifting landscapes of music, contexts of music-making, creativity, and composition, and how musicians, composers, scholars, and the public have constantly mediated processes of social, cultural, and economic processes across African societies and beyond. We particularly invite undergraduate and graduate students and early/mid-career music scholars in Nigeria. The Series will serve as a space of scholarly empowerment while also providing relevant resources for the advancement of music studies/scholarship in Nigeria.
