I’ve learned over the course of year that everything is a matter of perspective.

Berlin is a great city with some great cycling opportunities, some of those are even situated in the downtown but most of the cycling inside the “Ring” isn’t really a stressfree voyage. On the contrary.

City and its ever changing governments regardless of their political leanings, are promising more of the bike paths and infrastructure every election cycle.

Not much (or not much fast enough) has been done in the last couple of years.

“Radbahn” is an idea and project developed by Reallabor Berlin and government of Berlin which plans 9 km of a bike path under the U1 historical metro line.

Space now mostly been used as a parking lot and pigeons playground.

So far, 200 meters of a test path have been set in motion with an intention to spark a debate and show how this project could look like in future.

Even though the test phase is already finished, surprisingly, area around the short bike path looks clean, plants are still there, banks have not been destroyed, it seems like the people of Berlin recognized the idea as something worthwhile contemplating of.

We hope in not so distant future we’ll see this plan in full motion.
