Roche’s Point is a promontory just outside the entrance to Cork Harbour in the south of Ireland. It has contained a lighthouse since 1817, with the current one being built in 1837.
On the maiden voyage of the Titanic, the ship dropped anchor in the bay opposite the lighthouse, with passengers being ferried to and from Cobh. The lighthouse would have been one of the last land buildings seen by many of the passengers.
