On the Dutch National holiday, the 30th of April, the Dutch celebrate the birthday of their queen Beatrix of Orange Nassau. Not only in honor of the House of Orange everybody wears the color orange, it is also a sign of togetherness. The celebrations take place on the streets and everybody goes there by bike. Dressed for the occasion, not for cycling.

  1. Yes, she was born on the 31st of January but we still celebrate on the 30th of April. That was the birthday of her mother and a far better day for street parties!

  3. You live in a country where as many people cycle as drive. I live in a country where only 1 percent of trips are by bike. You have fantastic cycle lanes that actually go places. I live in a country where cycle lanes are dangerous, narrow, dont go anywhere useful, stop for no reason or most of the time dont exist at all. You live in a country where cycling is normal. I live in a country where most people have special cycling clothes. Here you have to wear a stupid helmet, there you don't. SIGH
