Hey guys,

so a package from Oakley arrived today, containing a new bib. The one on the top, their “Endurance 3.0”, is my favourite bib but it’s currently sold out in my size. Their “Endurance cargo” bib (also sold out) fits the same and is equipped with the exact same pad as the “Endurance 3.0”.

Looking to get another pair after having had a minor accident, I bought their “Endurance Mix” bibs as a replacement, thinking they’d feature the same chamois as the others that I’m comfortable with.

Now the website doesn’t specify it further on the 3.0 and Cargo model, but specifically advertises the chamois on the mix bib, praising the higher density while being a thinner pad.

Perhaps I don’t know what’s really good but at first glance it reminds me of my cheaper bibs from decathlon or Vaude – despite being even more expensive than the other Oakley bibs. While those are alright for
shorter rides, they start hurting a bit after 100km in the saddle, whereas the Oakleys were still perfectly comfortable for double the distance.

I’m worried that I bought an inferior product for a slightly higher price. What do you think?

    1. It’s hard to say by just looking at it and to some extent personal preference. Many high performance racing bibs have firm, thin padding as it doesn’t “sit through” as easily on longer rides.

But that is only true for people able to constantly push on the pedals, so they don’t have such a high portion of their weight on the saddles. Comparing my Assos race chamois to my plush Rapha Core chamois as a not that powerful ride, the latter works better for me on long distances.

    2. Elastic interphase makes pads for a bunch of companies and their product is top level. Whether it would be a better fit is personal preference
