front of me so uh we got all ready we’re going to take to both cars we’re going to Lincoln what’s it called sh Burton Waters Burton Waters and uh by all means come with us hope the rain holds off it was pouring down this morning and me and her have been to the gym this morning look look at this picture look let’s get going and we got to take both cars here you go you going in then this car who’s coming in my car oh I’ve got all the kids again right we just turned up at the marina we’re just getting all the gear out of the cars you looking forward to this kids it’s not raining is it my teddy you got your teddy course you have what we got here sh bag of stuff cut the bags you got a jacket I haven’t got a jacket have I well I just said it’s on the B I’ll get it then just in case it might be a bit windy might it yeah might it and we’re here for a good few so shut that door you right Tracy we got a bag yes we’re going on a boat we’re going on a boat oh there we go they keep saying that we’re going on a boat you’ve got that from blinking Mama Mia apparently haven’t you we’re going on the boat all right coming in let’s get inside I think we got a book in it’s 25 P at the moment and we got to have some tuition get our life jackets and uh then off we go so let’s get inside right so we’re inside now and uh nice and straightforward all you got to do is l deposit down we’ve actually paid for the hire of the boat so what we’re going to do now is just pay the deposit which you get back at the end as well oh have you oh Sharon straight there look she wants a to straight there she wants a toilet straight away Shar she is it does anyone like a weave before we go oh Mommy I would right what do you need off of me 250 please P that on the car can I do it on the car yes you just at that no could have done a bank transfer you see I do I do everything I even playing bleaking beans as well do you you jacking the beant yes you will what’s the name of the boat we’re going on imp it’s very funny it’s always like d it’s just like driving a boat that’s all it is all right off we go just going outside get our boot sorted thank you got our life jacket sorted out we’re on we’re on the Jonathan all right then yeah so first of all how anybody been uh voting before only on a small little thing perfect you Captain then hold on I want you in charge in the Mediterranean Sea though wasn’t it the biggest difference if you fall in the water there it’s not so bad but we suggest that you don’t try swimming over here it’s not the best okay so there’s a couple of things I want to show you just before we get on board the boat so first of all is we’ve got the bathing ladder that will uh drop down at the back so if anybody does fall in then you can actually put it down so they can get back on board but if they fall in here they’re going to be a bit wet and dirty and muddy so I’d let them keep in the back of the boat and keep them separated so best thing is don’t fall in we’re going in the Bo on the top there is also the life ring as well so if somebody does fall in you can throw to them I suggest you put it somewhere near them rather than at them because it is solid again if somebody does fall in take the engine out of gear so it’s uh so there’s no um props going around to cause any issues now that is all the worst things that’s cuz I have to tell you those things have never ever been used it’s never been an issue I just have to sa for safety the other thing that we have to mention is the roof is a sliding roof so it can keep you nice and dry when it rains that makes life easier but it does mean that you can’t stand on there and dance and party so you got to stay inside unfortunately that is the best thing now who’s generally going to be driving okay and who’s going to be helping with the ropes me what’s the ropes I think we nominate you Tracy I think for that one right okay whilst we’re out here I’m just going to show you on the how to tire up okay so uh the easiest thing is to remember Oxo so Oxo yep so what you would normally try to do is get the boat Stern as close as we can she so you just go an O yep an X oh that’s clever an O and then pop it under itself oh yeah okay okay so a half hitch that’s it so if it’s like that it won’t go anywhere what you would generally try and do is get the stone cleat as close as you can that stops the boat um drifting out yeah if you’re doing the ropes okay and you’re doing the helming it is your job to get the boat as close to the bank as possible y you only step off if it’s a step if it’s a jump if it’s a leap don’t wor you don’t do it okay n be going in so so if it’s not close enough abandon it do it again there’s no rushing boat so take it nice and easy yeah okay so if you want to pop in your more than welcome in you go little ones and you sh going first go on in you go you’re all right you’re safe it is near enough sh look it’s got about 3 in gap there is near enough am I getting on to John I’m in where do I need to be John where you want me the helm seat I’m going in the helm seat nice one right I’m in I’m in Jonathan I’m in all right here we go okay with the only to remember with the lines is when you come on the boat when you when you cast off bring the lines inside the boat especially the stern line because it can get around the prop and then you’re not going anywhere and that becomes an issue okay so now for the rules of the river there is a um a speed limit on the river so you can only do about four to five knots the boat is limited to stop you from going too fast and getting on the plane and do any water scheme behind it so we don’t really allow that however what you’ve got to be mindful of is the wake and the waves that you put from behind yes at four or five knots it should be absolutely fine but if there are if you’re going where there’s Mo Rings where people are sort of living just be a little bit Mindful and see so it doesn’t sense okay now when you go down the river try and stay in the center soer in the center so it’s the deepest part of the water and you’ve got less chance of sucking anything up through the intake of the engine and then causing it to overheat okay if you’re having a boat that’s coming towards you and You’ sort of like pling checking if you’re on the right you’re in the right so basically what you’re supposed to do is for the um uh on on your Navigation course is you make your turn clear and concise so basically you would over steer Y and then join so they do the same so you both know each other it’s not are you going to move am I going to move so it’s that a forceful movement so they can see exactly what you’re doing I see so if you come out of here and you take left yeah it will take you towards Lincoln so it’ll take you to the braford Marina that side um you can actually go through to um by the Riverside there by what was wos and the water side Center uh but then you have to turn around cuz there’s a lock okay okay if you do go through that area then there is a traffic light system so just be mindful it’s on green when you go through right okay that’s not for boats coming backwards and forwards that’s if they’re going to open stamp and lock it causes a flood oh got and you’ll just get caught up and it becomes a nightmare so that’s not too much if you come out of here take right you hit Saxe and then you go to txy if you get that way you won’t the lock Keepers won’t let you get through txy locks that gets you onto the river Trent and that’s but you’ll see them in advance W you yeah yeah so it’s I mean it takes a while to get there so everything in BO is nice and slow on the book is it got the the times between these destinations so time okay fair enough think what time do we have to be we’ve had to put the roof up cuz it did start to rain again he did you pass it actually yeah on the left hand side Jared it was that it yeah I’ve had the wind screen watch going already I’ll tell you what I just found out it’s it’s a lot harder sitting down here to steer cuz you’re forever correcting like left and right left and right I was standing up with a roof off and it’s a lot easier to drive when you’re standing up anyway so that’s a little thing if you do get one of these pick a nice day oh well yeah pick a nice day so you can stand up have you uh is this your first boting experience yes yes yeah and how are you enjoying it I’m actually I am enjoying it about your your your driver he’s a bit all over the place I feel I feel I’m a bit you’re driving I feel like I’m a boat people all live in there not over no see this is how I find it easier to steer it Tracy oh what stood up chop your head off and put it on your lap thing when you get down there you’re looking through there your your foot you’re trimming up all the time you know it look as enjoyable to be fair it’s not it’s not as enjoyable and I can’t sit back cuz you’re too far away sort of thing you know you got to do that look oh and that’s not what you want to do no I don’t want to be doing that I don’t I don’t want you to be doing that I want you stood up driving that’s what Dad does when he drives the barge on the briefer it’s called yeah so you may recognize this those of you from Lincoln it widens up a lot here Dad you’re going over to the bridge it’s a bit windy so what we got we got the holiday in just here and actually back there that one there is the Double Tree and there’s a Marco Pier white Steakhouse in there and it is lovely really good State you been there then there you oh you got five guys over there I didn’t realize Lincoln had a Five Guys now and a harvester remember when we stopped up at the train and then there’s a Nando never had her nandz preo preo are good use them with our club card voucher as well and there’s um the big OD in there ask the Italian and wagger Mama I’ve never had a wager M I’ve never had a wag Mama we’re not moing up and we’re not having one cuz I ain’t I ain’t moing up and over this side uh behind me can you see there’s lots of other little boats let me turn you around that one’s called Sergeant Pepper that’s quite sweet isn’t it turn and there’s public cruises go through there can’t you come can I go around there so he turn the engine off it’s that way that way to the left to the left that’s the lock isn’t it that’s the lock we don’t want to go there I was going to go around there and turn around I thought you to go through no I’m not lock but we’re not doing locks mother what you think we are can’t go through the lock he way we’re got straight up now oh we’ll be going into there yeah that’s where we come from yeah and there’s your sign there bur and Waters Marina there you goach that way back in and there’s that where woodcock’s Pub but it looks like P and it’s about 5 minutes away and 5 minute walk that map there they give you time limits don’t they from where to get to oh so is that it takes you 5 minutes or it’s a 5 minute walk oh it could be a 5 minute walk yeah could this is walking M 4 miles from there is a fast walk Sharon no we thought cuz it went straight down it was a 5 minute walk to the pub oh from when you got off the boat but might not timeing how long and then in 25 minutes sax will be village where there’s two a chip shop and some shops I wonder how long it takes you to get in the car how long it take you to get there in the car yeah there we are we’re now at the woodcocks just going past that didn’t seem like 5 minutes I must say no that was the one we thought it seconds which I thought was the Industrial estate there you go what do I know oh there’s a big dome there what I will say sh is we just cut the Eng when you turn the engine down you haven’t really got any steering cuz there stuff to guide the boat put the engine back on then quick it a little bit is a bit soon as you put the throttle on put the throttle on then then it takes it’s pushing it along then you see we on again baby we go we just done a kilm that one says 13 km what’s under that Dome that’s what I want to know under what the Dome oh it’s usually tennis courts is it yeah that must be a spoks Center there I just noticed that there are kilometer signs all the way down here we just done we just done a kilometer there Sharon we yeah way back there 14 well I think we’re heading up now towards saxelby it’s a a little Bridge we got to go through up here and there’s a bus road coming down here and also a bridge obviously in front of us there so relaxing the actual weather is warm now it’s about I don’t know 17 18 degrees pretty nice temperature we got here at the moment and we’re really having fun now it’s right down here we was 14 km so we’re down to 9 km now as you can see it’s just started to rain again look at that look the old water gauge there look look at that now there might be some more pubs along here I’m not too sure that’s the water front over there apparently we can actually more along here if we want which we probably could do and there’s a little tow Bridge there which you can walk across to get to the pubs on the other side of the road so we might turn there’s you know unlike other types of movable Bridges the swing Bridge does not need to be lifted it simply rotates horizontally well how does that thing rotate then how does that rotate Tracy me that’s supposed to be a bridge that look like a swing I can’t see that would have been for boat that’s what they’re showing there look or is that how it used to be probably might not be in action now I don’t know where not sure although then it goes into them pillars there look which are still over there I don’t understand it anyway rain’s eased off a little bit now there’s a couple of uh pubs apparently in a fish and chip shop oh fish and chips we haven’t seen them yet this apparently is Bridge Street look on a Heritage Trail sax will be historic history group that’s probably what it used to be like here George yeah when’s the last time that door was opened look that it’s still a little bit glass up there yeah un that unbelievable is it and you know what that’s actually a house there’s a window up there as well look wow that’s amazing well probably so we got a parade of houses here a little bit further up which we just walked past but turn the camera around some of these houses have been turned into shop Shon it’s a nice little shop is it look little cake homemade cakes in there look a little on a Heritage Trail yeah this must be a well Heritage Trail here it used to be a butcher look oh right so it was a shop originally which uh obviously looks like a house originally it must have been a house and then you got flowers and plants there Mr pool and uh little bit further up looks like a One-Stop shop with uh oh it’s called One Stop and all I didn’t even see that I said it looks like a One Stop Shop did you yeah and it’s a One Stop Shop so let’s have a little look in here I’ve got to replenish the socks of course you have kids have eating everything they’re like Savages yeah I don’t know what we’re doing in here but he I don’t know why it’s not raining any is it even ask can see there a lot of these houses I’ve got them blue packs outside so you can actually look at each house and I think you can see what it used to be like show you what the shop was it used to be yeah so it’s got a bit of History here but you got to look for it it’s the same with all these sort of small villages that you find especially out and about in Linc where we are it’s got hidden history so you have to look for that sort of stuff right so we just come on a little bit further and there’s one of these blue Heritage Trail PL we’re talking about Ernest pal it looks like a bike shop I think I see bikes hanging in that window might be a toy as well there might be toys 1910 and this is this building here here is it sh it’s uh it looks a little different now the chimley there Chim is in the same place up there as you can see the door but the frontage as you can see there is now all side all been moved it used to be in the middle there and uh it’s been screed over so that’s what this used to be here sh it’s the Heritage Trail there must be a list of all the properties here and you can go down and find out exactly what all these old houses used to be look at this look at this oh yeah look at that little living room there folks can you see that look little original fireplace there yeah little empty Properties Canal side um properties here little worker people used to probably live worker people workers little workers used to live in there I can see another blue side where this one was Magpie Fabrics here and what did it used to be oh it’s just that’s the one we saw earlier on sh Old Bridge Street that shows you the parade of shops what it used to be like look at the old washer women out the front of the shops there look at that look how about that 1905 that was up there you go that’s a local pub there the sun in which is shut at the moment but obviously if you do come here oh look look they’re saying look there a shower room I suppose this is for the boat people and a slle room boat people what don’t the boat people come by the at the atantic now you know what I mean if you’re a camper maybe could be I’ve seen that when they’ve been on the boats when we’ve watched the people on the bar they find these sort of places don’t they oh this is public facilities look there you do have a disabled toilet there and it’s just uh well basically just telling you about the West Lindsley Heritage Trust I think is’t it West lley uh West Lindsay District Council there that’s an old fashioned wooden Church there look that’s quite America Way it is American Colonial Sharon that’s the word colonial right let’s get across this road we’ve lost our little oh no I can see the boat still here sh the boat still there watch that sailing cre yeah but that’s definitely interesting that sax will be swing Bridge there I can’t see how that was a swing Bridge so that that that stone plin there over there looks like that housed the um yeah that’s where it originally was the pivot this must have been the pivot here or something or whatever I’m not quite sure but that picture there at that picture seems different from that picture was right up up into operation Ah that’s at Lincoln braford that’s what it looks that’s where we first was where we turned the boat around oh was it that was in 1972 it was still active so that wasn’t actually this here okay so that’s obviously that one here then yeah okay what a we know what a we know yeah it’s interesting see all this old history folks it’s all around you yes our boat unless you uh they broke in unless you actually read these little boards and all that you got no idea this sort of stuff what it was like here even 100 years ago how how everything changed in 100 years amazing so we got a little bit of history on the place here the fosdike prosperity and decline by the late 1700s the canal had been in a state of disrepair and barely navigable for 700 years one early Waterway visitor John Taylor wrote in 1650 from which sense we passed the ditch of weeds and mud which they do forcely they called fosdike flood for I shall be sworn no flood I could find there but dirt and filth which scarce my boat would bear but as new Industries developed during the 1700s and the 1800s the forest dke was revived coal was brought inwards from Nottinghamshire and farm produce and fine wool from Lincolnshire was sent outwards along the canal to the mill to towns like Le Wakefield and Halifax this booming water trade was not to last forever however when the railway came to sax in 1849 the water trade began to dwindle again as trains could carry goods and passengers faster and more cheaply so they’re down by the uh boat at the moment waiting for me cuz I’m just having a little walk along the tow PA here George and we’ve come across some more sax will be treasures and it basically says here there’s a hidden medieval Hall uh the cottage at 79 High Street opposite the Mana Road made look like many any other from the outside but it’s an 18th century brick skin is now rendered hide a secret this is in fact the substantial remainder of a medieval Hall built between 1480 and 1490 how about that and there’s also the night and his lady inside boff’s Parish Church on Church Lane and there you go you got these marble figures that lie there as well folks so hidden history again in this little town of sax willby amazing got to check these sort of things out and that’s why coming out on a little boat like this it’s been ideal for us park the boat up have a cup of coffee and Sharon was just saying that3 pound what we paid for that cost of coffee Sharon said we can get 10 pods for that so it just shows you is Ito right Scotch egg that one’s got nothing on it uh is it any different than without a bread coating do you think oh no I didn’t even honestly you didn’t even know no there you go because it looks almost bread you couldn’t really show no there you goast so you don’t really need them do you but they’re a lot better than the ones you get in the shops cuz the ones in the shops are bland you enjoyed yours didn’t you James did you have one too James did you so so it stopped again that little shower we had stopped literally instantly when when we once we got wet it’s like it wants to wet you rain generally does do yeah but it wants to do it and then once geese swans and uh yeah uh what Happ you gone past two fishermen going like that yeah only joking I slowed down I on low uh there got lots of lots of ducks actually hav we and it is nice to actually pull over more the boat up get off and have a little walk back and actually it’s quite easy it is easy it is it’s the first time thought in but when’s when he’s explaining it to you a little bit daed but how it’s simple really simple and having that big pole there that’s a massive P yeah anyway but yeah so it’s been a it’s been a good day yeah so from our captain give it a goal folks give it a amazing old bars look they’re trying to keep a wake down behind us have I would imagine all these are paying them more in cost along here solar panels on that one look some of them look like they need a bit of work done to them but um nice to see these old boats how you imagine yesterday year these would have been uh carrying cargo up and down the canals little house there on the side look right so we’re at the end of our journey now we’ve done it as qu 4 and we’re just going to pull into the uh Harbor now just going to slow it down a bit the marina the marina sorry this is it a it yeah that’s
