Hello,
As we are awaiting the release of the new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, which we believe is essentially the “Scram” version of the new Himalayan 450, but with a few more differences than the Scram 411 was to the Himalayan 411, I really wanted to get out on the Scram 411 so I would have something to compare the new bike to (when we get to ride it).
I didn’t really gel with the Himalayan 411, so what would I think about the Scram ? Please watch to find out.
Many thanks to Roger and Carl at Crewe Motorcycle Centre, for letting me take this showroom prepared used bike, out for a ride.
    Thanks for watching.

[Music] right morning all here we are at crew motorcycle center again and um with the imminent uh release of the new gorilla 450 which is the as essentially the scram version of the 450 Himalayan uh I thought I haven’t actually ridden the original scram 411 so we’re going to put that right now we have it in this nice gray with the El bits quite a nice looking bike is it so uh anyway let’s get going um now this bike is uh is one that they had taken in partx actually again to Himalayan um excuse me I’ve got a bit of a croaky voice now the fuel lights on and we’re flashing one bar so I’m going to have to go call and get some fuel some somewhere um now when I took the uh Himalayan 411 out um I just didn’t take to it you know like uh we don’t take to everything do we uh so it’d be interested to see how whether I take to this or not I mean it’s essentially the same bike isn’t it um now even though it’s June uh it’s not a particularly warm day and um the uh the forecast isn’t particularly good for later on Rogers asked me not to get this bike mcky uh as they’ve already prepared it for sale so uh so no no going down some little gly Lanes today um my initial thoughts are that it feels more comfortable um than the Himalayan you you see because the seat sculptured you seem to sit more in it than on it uh the clutch leave is a fair it’s a fair way away that is and it’s not nonadjustable yeah it’s a fair it’s not there’s not much of a dog leg on that uh I struggled really cuz I got little hands [Music] uh now on my classic 350 I don’t um I don’t go to let the fuel gauge go that low uh I don’t think I’ve ever seen the uh fuel light so I don’t know how many miles we’ve got hence why I will be calling for some fuel I can’t I kind of landed on Roger today because uh um he uh he had he hadn’t he hasn’t got one of these on demo uh and as as they’ve already prepared this bike for sale uh there’s no fuel in it uh but the bonus is um because it has done uh a few miles then we don’t have to run it in do we sorry about the croaky voice I’m I’m struggling this morning somehow at that sky [Music] a bit of a strange place for the info button for the uh uh for the dash it’s on the throttle side uh so it’s not as easy to flick through the the menus yeah this one’s door on 1,478 [Music] Miles um it holds it uh s well at 30 mph I am finding that the seat the way it is sculptured uh is is sending me down towards the tank not it’s windy there’s probably going to be quite a bit of clipping following a van um I don’t want to talk too much about the uh new gorilla 450 that we’ll be seeing um I’ve been on about it for a while we didn’t know what it was going to be called uh but there are a few spy shots out there and also uh some apparently leaked pictures uh at a very spurious angle so you can can’t really see what it is but it’s the one on the Internet is golden [Music] red got a BMW up me boom I’m going to go straight on here now go to SSB get some fuel I’ll catch you in a bit [Music] [Music] see what the filling up feels like can’t ever get dead on the thing now can you 301 well that’s uh that was no bother was it right still a fair um throw over for your leg I stuck three quid and the thing still flashing at me it must have been quite low mustn’t it the gearbox feels quite uh positive um doesn’t to me it feels as smooth as the classic 350 where’s that lry going [Music] there it goes all right look in it’s 5 gears yeah 55 mph right we’ll take a right turn right turn on this roundabout uh suspension feels quite nice I don’t know if if that’s the same as on the [Music] Himalayan Landfield have got the fueling sus on all the bikes haven’t they those round bands okay um I am surprised really that they didn’t use this engine in the uh in the classics I could get do getting past in could we you’re not making it easy for me e [Music] yeah it goes around corners all right is it um the tires are like Dual Purpose tires go all right get over there uh it really is a windy day today so I hope you can hear me okay and on the move it actually does feel quite a bit lighter um than the Himalayan uh obviously it hasn’t got all the metal framework around it or whatever so and then one of the other things it hasn’t got is the center stand unfortunately [Music] [Music] um what I’ll do is uh I’ll pop into the marina up here and just take a couple of photos yeah I do find that this seat is is it’s pushing me forward I’m trying to shuffle back all the time um you I can just about hear the exhaust note but I don’t think you will [Music] um it’s got the offset um Speedo but it’s compensated by the uh Tripper thing it’s all right it feels quite it feels okay being thrown into the vends right we’ll turn into the uh into the marina here [Music] and we’ll we’ll take a photo in front of the boat I can hear the exhaust like I say but I don’t think you’ll be able to hear it very well definitely need something a bit fruer uh if any motorcyclists or around this area South cheser N switch crew um Aqueduct Mariner we’ got a really nice cafe oh no we won’t be going there to take a photo uhhuh yeah that gearbox is very positive virgin on Cluny akin to what I’ve heard of triumphs yeah let’s go over here do it want it right I want to take a few photos I’ll see you in a bit bye for now just been having a good chat there with the chat we get out before him oh the fuel gaug decided to uh operate correctly now look oh I don’t know why but the engine management light seems to come on right two size that pair piece of road there and uh that chat want to be on mine um yeah that CH there is he was saying that his mate uh had a under DeVille for many years and um he was talking about the himalayans so I think this little screen here is causing quite a bit of buffeting around my net area um it’s another one of those where I can hear it more than I can feel it uh but the only downside is you’re probably going to be able to hear it too it’s all right around the bend you know uh yeah so uh just talk a little bit about the new 450 gorilla uh and that spelled gorilla as in Warfare not the not the ape um by all accounts it looks like it’s uh little bit of cracking bite that well uh as you know I if you haven’t seen the reviews I’ve done on the new Himalayan 450 I I really rate that [Music] bike uh I regret having not ridden this bike um the 411 scram uh earlier actually because the Himalayan 411 kind of put me off taking this out for a spin [Music] uh but to my mind this is this is far better I don’t know why I can’t put my finger on [Music] why um to me it’s more comfortable [Music] uh but SC scram um scram Himalayan 411 owners will be telling me yeah but nothing’s different they’ve just taken a bit of metal off you might be [Music] right it’s funny though we just don’t take to something we don’t take to it do we I’m going to take a right turn here now uh if anyone saw the um City tour uh ride that I went on r l field uh we we traveled this road [Music] then it just feels more flickable [Music] rides over these horrible roads very well [Music] just trying to keep out the mock [Music] can you hear this wind you can no doubt see all the bushes there’s a comfortable place to be just push me push me what it down to the tank um yeah it’s it’s it’s still not one of my it’s not still not my favorite Royal mfield um but it is better than the uh Himalayan for [Music] me I come set traffic light and we turn right [Music] and down we’re down to a 30 again I’m not going to waste me time going left because it’ll probably be Road closed [Music] [Music] again um right so what I’ll do is um I’ll scroll your phone so just as we get back to the bike shop uh right welcome back we’re going to get stuck in more traffic I think um to summarize my opinion on the scram 41 as opposed to the Himalayan 4 11 um I would say it doesn’t quite feel as agricultural I mean why would that be do you think it’s basically basically the same bike but without a lot of the uh metal work on it isn’t it um it feels slightly more refined whether or not it’s because this one’s got more miles on it than the uh the Himalayan look out I don’t know um what what’s not for me is is don’t necessarily mean it’s not for you is it uh usually I filter through all this sort of traffic uh but I want to go left B it this one’s got a few extras on it 18 grips which I was kind of tempted to put on um it’s got uh oh I’ll show you after it’s got like those spotlights down there you see them they must be switched cuz they’re not on now take a left here uh yeah we’ll have a bit of a walk around at back at CR motorcycle [Music] center right I’m trying to avoid all the puddles yeah that all right let’s have a look yeah accessories it’s got these spotlights on the front here and it’s got the oil cooler uh alloy guard there nice that looks quite nice actually uh I don’t know whether that beefed up bash plate comes on it as standard uh it’s got engine bars down there yeah is that it yeah I mean to me it is for me it is better than the Himalayan um but yeah it’s all right um I prefer the 450 right uh I’ll sign off now um hope you enjoyed this video I know I know it’s an old oldie bike isn’t it now really it’s been done to death but I wanted to ride this before the new one comes out um so I suppose we got something to compare it to um so anyway I hope you enjoyed this video please like big thumbs up if you would comment subscribe if you haven’t done so already and we will see you on the next one hopefully a ride out on Clementine if the weather behaves itself ever right see now bye he [Music] oh

    1. Carl tried to sell me that very bike!
I have the 411 Himalayan and I think it's brilliant for the use I'm putting it to and is very customisable to adapt to your particular needs. The Himalayan seat also pushes you forward onto the tank, I had mine rebuilt by SAS autotrim which overcomes this and provides more height and comfort for my long legs! I prefer the instrumentation on the Himmy over the Scram.
The new 450 is really a different animal to the 411 and I'm not sure I'd rush to change to one just yet as I have really bonded with the 411.

Best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery.

    2. Good evening Ian the old scram out the two RE’s I had that was the best one upset for the spokes at the tarnish look out on 6 months old but otherwise went well that one did 👍🏍️😎

    3. The Scram in my opinion is much better than the Himalayan 411 so much so I've got one, brilliant for daily use, the 19" front wheel, and the different ecu mapping completely changes the bike. 😊

    4. Nice one Ian I think the Scram always seemed more preferable to me personally the new updated one being the Gorilla will be very interesting to see with the new engine and from those snapshots looks pretty good as does the Himmi but I wonder how the Triumph 400 X will effect sales as it surely is a big competitor in this market . Hope all is well with your good lady and things are on the up gotta say the weather is just not playing the game this year it's bloody awful😉👌👍 .

    5. I have owned a Scram for the last 2 years. It has been my only form of transport, commuting around 20 miles per day, through city traffic. It has been amongst the best commuter bikes that I have owned (35 years riding, 30+ bikes). Costs me between £5-£7 per week to run. Lack of power isn't noticeable for city use. It will cope with motorways but it isn't ideal. Although I have commuted 70 miles per day on a 250cc in the past.
The fuel gauge is rubbish! Shows low fuel with 7 litres left in!
I came to this bike from an 1100 Shadow, so the seat height seemed towering to me when I first got it!? Don't notice it now.
All in all, I am very pleased with the Scram. I am intending to buy a second bike in the near future, for fun and touring but I am not planning to get rid of the Scram. As an all weather commuter, it is hard to beat imo.

    6. Morning Ian, I may be mistaken but I thought there was no difference in seat, frame etc between this and the Himalayan, only the wheel sizes. Of I HAD to choose this it the himmy I'd get the himmy.

    7. I loved the demo ride I had on the 411 Scram, luckily I was able to take it off-road in SE Oregon. What a blast! If I had the room for one I’d have it.
The old school simplicity is the thing that will be lost with the 450. I think the 411 Scram will go down as one of the bikes I SHOULD have bought.

    8. Morning Ian 😊 Well, the 350j has a far smoother engine, but when I ride the Himalayan, I prefer the 411 rattle and roll and old tractor character of the Himalayan. Really enjoyed the video Ian 👍

    9. Maybe should have got the scram over the 411. But I prefered the seating position.

The Triumph Scrambler 400x looks quite tasty in this price segment.

Wishing your wife all the best!

    10. Fair play. It seems that it is straightforward to make good progress on that 411. I have only seen the Himalayan variant which was well put together at 'Mounts' of Swansea. They were impressed with the build quality of all of the Royal Enfields which are selling well.

    11. I totally get how you feel about the Scram and the Himalayan. The Scram has a smaller front wheel than the Himmy; that will make quite a big difference to the riding experience. It would be a bad job if we all liked the same thing Ian.
I haven’t ridden a Scram; as far as I know the front wheel is the only difference that might alter the ride characteristics.
The 411’s are quite rough till they get a few miles and then it smooths out nicely.
The J series engine is much more refined than a 411 and in my humble opinion is a better power plant.
Enjoyed the ride and banter; as always. It’s good you give your personal experience and feelings of each bike you ride; great stuff.
      Thanks bud, ride safe.

    12. Usual good video Ian, thanks. Has it been confirmed by RE that the 450 Gorilla is a replacement for the Scram. I've seen a few reports (both Indian and UK) that says the updated Scram model is having a revamped 411 engine that will take it to 440cc?🤔 I quite like the outgoing Scram and particularly at the new bargain prices they are being sold at with over a grand knocked off the price, cheap bike for someone.
The outgoing Himalayan is also selling like hot cakes and moreso than the new model. I must admit personally, I'm not a fan of the new one, it's lost its charm, character and the RE DNA, take the badges off and it could any adventure style bike, too generic but each to their own. Hope Anne gets better soon, all the best to both of you.👍
