A few weeks ago we were invited to the launch event for the new Subaru Crosstrek – Not only did we get to take it on an exhilarating off-road journey, we got chance to get a closer look too!

At first glance, this latest iteration is a nod to Subaru’s rugged reliability with a sprinkle of chic, contemporary styling. The iconic sturdy build meets modern aesthetics, ensuring it catches the eye whether it’s tackling city streets or roughing it out on rural roads.

Let’s talk performance – the smoothness of the ride is impeccable, thanks to a fine-tuned suspension that seems to whisper over bumps rather than rattle. Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive remains a cornerstone, offering dependable traction across muddy fields or icy bends, making it a stalwart companion for all seasons.

Inside, the cabin spells comfort with a capital ‘C’. The materials are top-notch, with plush seating and thoughtful ergonomic touches that make long drives a breeze. Technology-wise, Subaru has thrown in a suite of impressive features. From the intuitive infotainment system to advanced driver-assist technologies, the Crosstrek ensures that safety and connectivity are just a touch away.

What’s truly remarkable is the space – there’s ample room for all your gear, whether you’re a weekend warrior or a family on the go. And let’s not forget the fuel efficiency; the Crosstrek is surprisingly economical, which is a boon for both your wallet and the planet.

The new Subaru Crosstrek is more than just a vehicle; it’s a statement of versatility and durability. It’s clear that Subaru has listened to its audience, blending practicality with pleasure to deliver a vehicle that’s as reliable on the tarmac as it is capable on a trail.

So, whether you’re looking to conquer the great outdoors or simply navigate the urban jungle, the Crosstrek is your go-to for a thrilling yet secure ride.

good afternoon and welcome to Harriet and Subaru so it’s a drive day and also we got our first look at the brand new cross Trek but not only that we get to go off-roading do some Road sections and really dig down and see what this actually is I’m Ben quir welcome to Planet [Applause] [Music] auto now you probably looking at it and thinking I recognize that shape well essentially it’s XD but heavily facelifted but the name plate in the US is cross Trek which they’ve now adopted here but it’s still got the same powertrain electric motor small battery and a 2 L petrol engine and a CVT an ebox set is their hybrid system it will run in electric when it sees fit it also gives it more oomph when you’re off-roading now yes CBT is one of those words and you think o the thing is with Subaru cvts it’s been evolved that well you can put the power down rather efficiently look at that getting the power down now cross trk it’s capable so much so that we took it proper off-roading and they put us in with the professional driver P from Road Wars and Annabelle and I got to see exactly what this is capable of cuz you look at it and you think yeah it’s got a decent ride height but how good actually is it off-road now Subaru as we know they’ve maintained rally stardom for years and years and years call him the cray Richard Burns impresses and all that technology has made it to their road cars so all-wheel drive so the symmetrical system that you’ve seen on Subaru cars for many years which means that this is permanently AAL drive so many other vehicles just aren’t it’s a formidable off-roader especially when you start looking at things like the approach handle and the departure angle I mean just look at the ride height this has lost about 150 kilos but at the same time gained a ridiculous amount of Tech 2 so it’s more advanced than it’s ever been it’s what you call Rugged solid M beefy Plastics and arches that envelop it’s an 18in wheel diamond cup these start at around 34,000 and go to around 37,000 this is top of the range so it’s the touring so it’s got a few more toys on it but I’ll put those on the screen I love the color also The Styling LED lights automatic highbeam assist and Subaru’s renowned eyesight system absolutely fantastic talk about OverWatch to a level that’s just ridiculous let’s take a look inside here this ENT and oh this takes me back to Old School Subaru you had this kind of material but you also had it was almost like a a knitted woven which I think I’ve seen maybe in saltera or something premium materials throughout padded areas and decent feeling switch gear climbing in absolutely no problem D my head ever so slightly there’s just something dependable and lovable about a Subaru I nearly bought a 2 L injection when I was about 18 years old but it was just out of the price bracket the thing is it would have still been running now wasn’t particularly quick because it wasn’t a turbo but there was something to it and that’s the thing with Subaru once you’ve driven one you just think oo actually I like the reliability I like the three warranty I like all the tech the Subaru eyesight and I’ve even grown to love the CVT which I never thought that would be the case and now that’s me talking the way that Subaru have developed it it’s pretty damn good and it doesn’t like unnecessarily scream if you floor it yes it will ramp up but you’ll see that in the driving section carbon 5 a styly trim there are hard plastics but the other thing is you want something like this to be relatively robust especially if you’re going to own it on say and a farm 40 steering wheel with reach and rake look at that decent amount brand new portrait system as well Apple carplay Android auto you can set some of the car settings yada yada yada proper buttons proper rotaries heated seats and they’re both electric too look at this center console engine stops start button two pedal system solid that’s the thing Dependable reliable and they’re not just buzzwords to Subaru either they’re what they stand for comfortable buckety seats airbags premium feeli the cross trk is fully equipped and have only touched on some of the features now they’ve done away with the hood system thing is I like that it was on a fair few of the Subaru models but I can see why they’ve integrated it in into the portrait system it’s nice and easy to read you can see your 4×4 information at the top of the screen just to put the icons it’s straightforward and it’ll also give you information what your powertrains do but not only that you’ve also got Hill descent control which is built into the X mode and the way that the X mode system works on this is you literally press a button and it takes control of pretty much everything bar steering it would have been nice to see an old school handbrake but to be honest they’ve kind of gone especially on vehicles like this and the electronic handbrake does an excellent job anyway you get heated seats completely forgot that and finally you’ve got one heck of an adaptive cruise control system if you like this type of video why not subscribe to the channel you just hit the button on the right hand side it’s free and you’ll get an alert every time we upload also if you do like the video why not give it a like it all helps and it means we can get more cars thank you some USBS here and wow an ex auxilary so you can plug in and I say a personal stereo with an auxiliary cable I’ve not seen one of those for years nice work subar 12vt and cup holders oh look complimentary water armrest that uh well I’m going to hog it but technically it is wide enough for you and your passenger decent Storage Point in here too and that’s quite a good place for your phone lots of adjustment in the seat and great driving position 6′ 3 about what 2 in something like that and if you check the build quality yeah it’s well constructed DVT but does have a manual mode also paddles chunky stalks proper buttons on your steering wheel cluster nice and straightforward and analog nice to see very easy to work out when you recharging etc etc Auto dimming mirror oh one last thing sunroof let’s take a look at the rear lovely sporty off-road silhouette wow the blue very Subaru there’s about I think 10 more charging it you don’t have to because it’s eboxer it literally looks after itself thing is you will notice it when you start putting your foot down let’s take a look in the rear nice lightweight doors too you don’t just lock to here it’s also here as well so we’re talking pretty strong durable doors that lock in multiple places it’s almost 90 degrees so it’s nice and easy to climb into even with the seat set for me at a lavish 6’3 I can still fit I could put this forward say another inch and a half anyway Headroom this rear seat bench is raised so it gives you a great view but it does mean that you have to be a little lower in the seat great leg room and I can get my feet under the seats and if you noticed before I actually put the seat on the floor so that’s great to know now the rear door cards yes the top is a hard plastic rather than the premium material on the front same with this but you do have a padded area and an electric window or a speaker door pocket is not too bad either I love the light headliner we’ve got a center light as well and it’s comfortable nice plush seats ice to fix points and we’ve even got a pull down armrest in the center here cup holders with grippers nice USB C and usba A wow it would have been nice to see a bit of trim on here and to say have a recline feature and maybe slides on the rear seat it’s at a nice angle so it’s comfortable and even though it is a sloping roof line it doesn’t really chop off any of my vision which is pretty good when I say I’m 6’3 so I can see out the window at all times quite a surprised to be honest I thought it’d be a bit tighter in the back the other thing is grab handles above every door excellent work Subaru they have standards and they stick to them and if anything they extel them finally adjustable driver seat Bel and passengers and airbags around the vehicle let’s take a look at the rear the back is a thing of beauty plastic clad cross Trek edged LED light I mean just look at the ride height from the rear the departure angle is is out of this world rear diffuser styly with more tough Plastics these are solid sporty rear spoiler reversing camera parking sensors yeah front and rear forgot about that and I’ve just noticed that we’ve got privacy glass but that’s how dark it was in the rear I didn’t even notice and I’ve got sunglasses on let’s take a look in the boot no power tailgate not surprising on this class of vehicle virtually no boot lip and I do love this liner look Subaru yeah tilted up at the side so it means if you got muddy Wellies large cats wet dogs whatever it all stays on the inside pull out load cover and to drop the seats you just literally pull this and push forward and you’ve noticed even this is covered in like a waterproof material so you could carry them know hay bale sheet you name it that’s the thing the ex V and now the new cross Trek are built with this kind of thing in mind you know a lot of the market was farmers and people with Country Estates looking after pheasants Etc so these vehicles have to be versatile and they are and if you’ve noticed it does lay virtually flat it’s not the biggest boot but it’s ample for say shopping and say A month’s worth quite easily and you could go on holiday as well a couple of suitcases and droing the seats if I remove my front wheel I quite easily get my ebike in here and that’s a Tre Rail and that is a behemoth under the carpet extra storage and an inflation kit let’s take a look under the Bonnet start engine stop button too the latches here on the right hand side push left and no struts and there narrow stood here now you actually realize how tall this vehicle stands it’s up to my waste so it’s wading deps if you remember our XV we took it through something that was pretty much up to here but if you noticed the air intakes here so yeah it can seriously get off the Beaten Track proper petrol engine and a hybrid system nice and easy to see where you top up fluids very self-explanatory look an old school radiator top love it and there you have it Subaru cross Trek time to get behind the wheel wow this is ridiculously light awesome welcome behind the wheel of the brand new Subaru cross trk fantastic little SUV under the Bonnet 2 L injection 16 valve engine and an electric motor with a battery oh wow it’s actually a clear I can get out not to 60 in around 10 a half which yes it’s not the fastest but considering that’s the CBT it does put the power down efficiently and it can be pretty quick especially if you use is it s no yes s so if you put your foot down in s it does make a bit of noise but it can dig its heels in here if you want to go for economy you better in I if you remember we drove the XV probably a couple of years ago and essentially it’s the same car it’s just now got the name plate from the American Market the thing is it’s an excellent SUV it’s very good off-road and it comes with X mode and like every Subaru it’s got symmetrical all-wheel drive built on rallying but when it comes to road driving it’s such a smooth drive to suspension just gobbles up bumps it’s comfortable it’s got very little lean when going around corners even when driving spiritedly however if you do push it into a roundabout or a tiny turn you will feel a bit of body roll but that just adds to comfort and at no point does it really feel ungainly take this corner up here I can go into it at the speed I’m going it’s a joy to drive it just feels well balanced well put together nice tight steering great feedback and oh look a Subaru and that was sub Bru eyesight system one of the best Safety Systems I’ve ever known on a car look at that getting the power down 6,000 revs so that’s where you you hear the CBT when it as soon as you back off it dials down it’s well refined oh look little Spitfire it’s an enjoyable Drive isn’t it any really is very impressive well poised just offers something safe and reliable but that’s Subaru all over economy 52.9 to the gallon currently and that’s with me on and off the accelerator I think that’s pretty good but that’s the benefit of the EB boxing system the electric motor will cut in when it’s needed to and then depending on which mode you’re in it will then drop into full EV mode it also helps with Offroad great setup all around brakes front and rear discs front being vented and lights LEDs little more into the Subaru eyesight system so it’s been overhauled once again it was pretty damn good to start with so things like Collision mitigation a and it is a heck of an OverWatch system it really is it’s one of those cars that you won’t watch in your back pretty good even at this ride height look at that and it can shift yeah that’s the only place you’ll notice it otherwise it just creeps along good as good now if you’re after a mid SUV with some real caliber safety and very good off-road it’s worth taking a cross track out for a drive isn’t it it is
