[Music] welcome back everybody to another episode of the podcast that talks about three Sports in one that sport is Triathlon this is talking Triathlon I am Tim Ford that is James Bale Jimbo mate how you going yeah I’m brilliant mate another week has flown by and there’s there’s a shedload of stuff to talk about in the world of triathon so I’m busy as always but always got time for this mate how’s things with you good mate now our audio listeners will have to dump over the YouTube channel uh to get a quick look but it looks like Jimbo your shirt that you’re wearing is this uh is this a similar sort of model or concept to the the white Tri we’ve seen Christian bloomfeld testing out uh that you’re goingon to obviously get a a get one of for your race in London in a few weeks I see it’s got the sort of you say you you say he was testing it out mate I am their Arrow their wind tunnel tester so that suit that suit might look good on him but it’s built around my uh my body shape now this is my this is my hell of the north t-shirt are they holes are they holes or is it a p no no they’re just dots like breathing holes for for extra cooling when you random aerodynamic t-shirt now you you have not been a very happy camper with some of the polls and uh images that I edited on the talking triathon Channel this week uh in relation truit luckily there’s one person who’s not responding to those posts who’s that and that’s the man a man himself who could get the white Tri suit and isn’t doesn’t seem to be doing it so I’m uh you sure I’m quite happy are you sure about that are you sure that he hasn’t replied to my DMs on the talking TR told you’d have told me you’d have told me I I know you and so no I’m GNA squeeze into an old an old trip about one the you’ve got the old white one don’t you yeah that won’t fit me anymore hell I also had a few people send me the Aaron Royal win win one as well and said maybe we should get in one of those apparently if you order something through that what is the I don’t I don’t even know what the the the website is Telly rex or whatever uh you can get one for free or something I mean look I’m happy I’m happy to help facilitate a white Tri suit for I can very easily make a call if I get your measurements I can get you an allh Tri suit Rapido medium that’s my measurements mate world’s most average man Stone Cold medium I’m going to get you a medium Tri suit it’s all white except talking to across the ass chest and if I could get a modesty patch as well I’d appreciate it you know a bit like um Martin I know what I’m gonna do I know what I’m gonna do I’m gonna put you screaming face as the modesty patch so how things your end anyway tell me things mate okay I can tell you so last week I did i’ done the 70.3 and I think I was talking about how my legs went that sore but I got a little bit sick last week as you sometimes do post race so I had to go to the doctor because of what happened in my event doctor all clear I’m a bit low in iron taking an iron supplement which is great but I didn’t run all week just because I was on that precipice of getting sick and then I did a bike ride on uh Friday I swam Friday pretty hard felt okay rode Saturday really hard was fine so I thought okay cool Friday I’m going to go back to my run program which was a 30k run it was 5K warm up 8K like sort of three lots of 8K building building to about 4 minutes per kilometer and felt really good to be honest I was like f you can actually feel the rest like I needed this like my body’s are you know I obviously just needed to recover and I got about 16k into the 30k run and my quads started to protest a little bit I was like okay I haven’t felt this running for quite a while uh and then I got to the the hard AK and I was thinking I don’t know how I’m going to run this fast my legs are pretty pretty sore at this point think now this is what it’s like mate when you do a marathon you know your legs are going to be screaming so I need to I need to get good at running when my legs are are angry with me and and the first couple of K was good I you hit the 4ks it felt a bit harder than it should have but I was like oh this is all right like this should be right and then mate hell did the wheels fall off so bad I had to stop like I actually I when I do those intervals I never stopped you know I commit to it this one I had to stop my legs were like Agony and all week ever since I have I have not been this sore after I was more sore after the training run on Sunday than I was after the half the week before and I’ve been saying it’s like my body was tricked into thinking that it wasn’t time to recover or something but man this week the running that my legs have just been so you you’re you’re still running but just taking it a bit easy doing a bit more recovery yeah I mean I just yeah I tried to run I did an easyish run on Tuesday and it was a bit of a slugger and yesterday tried to run off the bike and just couldn’t hit pace so I going to get those normal Tech boots at but I just couldn’t believe how Qui my legs were to be I hadn’t felt Doms like that in I’m glad to hear it mate you deserve it you know a race like that you deserve all the Doms oh man but I I’ve got that same run again this Sunday so hopefully I’m able to execute a little bit better that would be nice uh yeah yeah but you I know obviously apart from the busy stuff but how about a training point of view how’s the running how’s the bike and how’s the swing training was going really well until um last week really I just I got sick again I just ended up with some weird cough coldy flu thing and the cough is just easing now so I had a had a few days off just to let it just to let it uh with my immune system as it is if I get that sick I have to just pull the pin and wait for it to pass and then get back on the wagon so I’ll be I’ll be easing back into training over the next few days taking the kids camping this weekend though so I’m going to be a little less now I woke up to some messages in the WhatsApp group this morning it seems as though the London Lottery has been announced with I know that you got your charity slot but obviously it’s your your 40th birthday next year now I know that I’m planning to come over for the celebration because the time is awesome plus it’s your 40th and I want to be there for it now is that is it is the celebration you’re talking about the day of the marathon are they two separate events no no it’s going to be the the marathon is on my 40th birthday April 27th it’s going to be get up in the morning run the marathon have a little bit of a shower bit of lunch and then going to be a party in the evening so the question I now have is can you get me one can you get me one of these charity slots as well so I can do it with you ooh that’s interesting you probably could get you a charity slot I’ve had I’ve had about three other Charities offer me places that I’ve turned down cuz I already had one but I’ll um I’ll send some emails and see what I can do if I’m coming all the way for it you I mean you want to do the race don’t you oh 100% although even if I don’t I’ll just jump on and Pace you that wouldn’t be bad actually but no yeah let um let me see what I can do okay CU I’ll definitely come forward uh lock that one I mean with that charity slot there will be an obligation they’ll be like you need to raise two grand type thing I’ll just pay it myself how much it cost yeah yeah so yeah it’d be a good day out and then a hell of a party afterwards everyone’s coming excellent um if you want to find out about the party details and what happens after the event you can head to patreon.com this isn’t an open in that wasn’t an open in to the internet mate if you want to find out our stories after it happen happens head to patreon.com Talkington uh maybe if we get enough patrons they can they can be the fundraisers we’ll put that patreon money towards our entries at the London London ma that’s not what we do we use it to pay for things like our video editor uh the platform which we record the equipment we use all that good stuff uh I don’t know we did we got Ace back on Ace is a video editor by the way hi Ace I know you listen when you edit back on the reals now he he’s back on the reals he’s also added timestamps uh on YouTube which was something people were screaming for so instead don’t thank us it’s not us doing it it’s our video editor Ace uh he’s the the man behind it all so uh yeah patreon.com love I love his titles for the time stamps as well they’re they’re quite unique M you should some of them he sends me I’m just like uh no maybe change this to this and it does make me laugh sometimes um yeah so you get that you get the WhatsApp group Facebook group uh all that regular stuff uh mate a little personal thing I want to get out at the start of the the show just because it’s it is is a platform that I have and I just want to say personally how extremely proud I am to be having four athletes selected for the Olympics next month uh confirmation you go uh Kate WF uh Tyler mled Shar Henry scan and jimy riddle will’ll all be lining up in Paris uh it is quite surreal for me to know that I’ll have four of my clients uh racing the biggest race of every four years uh I know that the journey there has not been easy for a lot of them to be hon like a lot of the stuff that’s been going on behind the scenes that we’ll never talk about publicly has been wild uh but I also find it quite amazing to me that the I’ve got two of them doing their third Olympics and two of them doing their first Olympics like it’s quite a fascinating sort of um yeah there’s no one in the middle is there no no and and like it must be a hell of a thing because the likes of us you know we’ve been adjacent to these Journeys I’ve you know previous Olympics we both had athletes that are racing it’s you but that that adjacency is still a million miles from what it must feel like to be an athlete racing in an Olympics whether it’s your first or your third that that must be a feeling that is incomparable mate I know that again um getting the waking up because I live in Australia most of my guys are in Europe or America but waking up the morning that the British team was announced getting the voicemail from Kate saying it’s done we’re announcing it like hearing the joy in her voice like that’s still you know you I I have these moments from getting to do what I do like you know getting to tell certain athletes they get their sponsor like there’s some really cool parts of our job and uh getting that voem Mark from Kate was like truly a top tier top tier moment so uh it’ll be really cool to be over in Paris watching those guys and girls race I’m I’m really looking forward to because obviously with Tokyo we didn’t get that opportunity it was um no no we didn’t it was weird wasn’t it getting uh we’ll both be in Paris watching the individual races um I’m really looking forward to it I’m looking forward to being part of that that that uh that Vibe and that environment um I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to them when they come out the sen you know radioactive monsters well it’s probably that’s probably a decent spot to start and again people know that we do sort of uh ad hoc this a little bit but uh things are still really not looking good for that swim mate I think there was a recent uh survey or study of the water found that the water quality a month out from the game still is not good enough uh for humans to be swimming in the water and there’s still no plan B in fact Plan B is to run it as a gathon and I just which is a Plan B come on as plan B’s go that’s a bollocks one isn’t it yeah I mean I don’t know whether you have to it has to surely in this day and age surely there’s you put up some things at a certain section of the say and you just tip as much fresh water you get every truck in the area that’s full of Clean Water you tip it in sure there’s something they can do I don’t know but it’s it probably wouldn’t suit the French athletes that well either though to be honest like if you look what will happen two days out from the event three days out from the event you’ll see a little French official down by the river taking a sample and it will come up clear and he’ll just hide a little bottle of EV on behind his back I was going to say somebody will trip behind him carrying a big bucket of and accidentally trip the water into the same spot that he’s he’s testing yeah be like it’s fine now it they will definitely swim I I I just don’t see Universe in which they’re not swimming whether they should or not so uh again I know a lot of you pro athletes listen I’d start pre-loading the probiotics uh they British I mean I’m sure all the Olympic teams have but the British team have published their uh their antien um uh uh methods you know with the probiotics and and the cleaning the athletes when they come out of the river after they’ve done practice swims and stuff and they’re going to be swapping people down it’s kind of like got a covid protocol vibe to it it’s just a matter I just I can’t help it right look I know they’re going to get out of the water and it’s just going to look like they me like any other race but I can’t help but I have this visual where they get and there’s like running down and they cover you know like toilet paper stuck to one of their foreheads have to flick it like it’s almost like in my head they hang out yeah I know it’s not going to be like that but uh it is it is this this constant sort of just sort of damic hanging over our heads of what is probably the most incredible location for an Olympic triath we’ve ever seen but it is just this one I mean Sydney I think was pretty great as well but it is just a little unfortunate that this thing I mean you know and it’s not been a normal summer either yet in France it’s only just started getting really hot there has still been an above average amount of rain up until a few weeks ago um I know this because I’ve been over many times and it’s not been very hot it’s been raining a lot so with that becomes the overloading of the storm dams in Paris and the difficulties with dealing with the um the uh the problems that the sen harbors and uh I know they’ve put a huge amount of investment into try and counter this problem but ultimately it’s a sticking plaster unless you actually get to the bottom of the fundamental issue which is you know dealing with those storm drains and dealing with how water is dealt with in Sea plus you also have the problem that there was a campaign to actually have people in the SC like that also yeah no it was it was it was like a campaign with depending on how far away from Paris you were when you should flush your toilet so that it corresponded with when macron was there in the uh swimming yeah they canel that event didn’t they I think he’s not swimming I think they canceled that event I think they probably did yeah he was probably like I’m not swimming in that I’ve seen the reports you think what are you talking about they put in athletes good luck to that like good luck guys um yeah so watch this space I think that it’ll I mean another interesting here are Olympic Corner let’s get into the Olympic corner it’s it’s literally a month out to get used to this guys uh I was talking with um some people this week about the race because we’re at that point now it’s it’s literally a month out this is when we start to I saw an article this week where it was talking about Christian bloomfeld admitting that he’s taking risks in training to try to get himself to the level that he needs to be at to win it who ain’t who ain’t making that start list mate who are the people that are going to get injured between now and and the race or who are the people that are going to line up you know who’s who who do you P for see those favorites those top tier athletes that are going to get there and like without even maybe admitting it or we’ll find out after the race have some sort of nigle or injury like what who do you just yeah what do you see that happening yeah I mean it’s difficult to tell um Bloom there’s definitely going be a few and there’s there’s always that um there’s always that uh kind of no one will admit it until after the race then they’ll be like yeah actually I had I don’t know a cal issue my leg was actually with issue or whatever yeah um bloomfeld said that he was heading to for Ru and he was going to be doing some uh Kil extra kilometers on the run and as many track sessions as possible to try and see if he can increase his run volume and increased Fitness um and so that this is the point isn’t it where you start taking risks like that it’s it’s the class it’s it’s the classic sort of what’s they call um cramming your training in at the end because you haven’t done it properly he’s obviously done it properly he’s a pro athlete but it it makes you think of the age grouper who hasn’t done their training sessions and suddenly just starts absolutely ramping Up the Volume towards the end he’s taking a risk but he’s a defending Olympic gold medalist so if he’s not in the form that he should be taking that risk is probably his only chance it’s not like he’s going to lose a medal that he doesn’t already have I yeah I I was quite surprised to see this come out because firstly I never would have assumed Christian would need to be in a position where like not that he’s cramming but like I don’t know does it tell you that maybe he’s a bit worried I don’t I don’t know like it’s it’s um anyway yeah I was a bit fascinated but I think to me you look at I don’t see Alex ye for example having to worry too much Alex is the standard to which everybody is measuring themselves against I wonder about those people and I’m not touchwood I love you Hayden wild but you know somebody like Hayden right knows he has to do something extra special to try to beat Alex e fact like sorry it’s so it’s those sort of athletes that I wonder are they going to push as you sort of say like that last little bit just a little bit too much that might go to and I I don’t think Hayden is going to I don’t think Hayden either I think hayen is too sensible ahead on on on those shoulders to to do anything silly what I think Hayden’s going to do is find himself probably in the similar position to the last time we saw him and Alex shoulder-to-shoulder and he’s going to go deeper than he’s ever gone before to try and get that win whether or not he can achieve that we’ll see on the day but I just think we saw him lose to Alex recently and he finished looking knackered but not the his eyes weren’t gone you know he wasn’t a staggering mess but I think we’ll see him pushing himself to that limit in that race I don’t think we’ll see him taking any risks with any training um measures going into it it’s it is it’s always I guess it’s kind of the the poison chalice what all these things I keep saying sort of dam please poison Chalice of the Olympics right is that it is because it’s such a rare thing people do sort of do extraordinary things I’ve been talking with Tyler you know Tyler went into Tokyo’s one of the favor bub that mate mate don’t worry we’ve I I literally told him we need to get a witch doctor to do like a cleansing ceremony or something to get rid of his bad juju uh but you know I basically said like you know I hope you’ve learned the lessons from turky mate like you know that 0.001% you you thought you needed it’s it’s not worth it if it I mean I get I get it right I talking and dealing with Tyler post Tokyo was one of the biggest learning curves uh of doing what I do and that idea of you sometimes you got to be willing to risk it all in order to win at all but I’m like at this point I don’t think you should probably risk it all because this is your last Olympics just played a bit safer and and I think that he’s learned that lesson too so there’s it’s it’s very fascinating to see you know where those sort of people are and uh then in the women’s like you know you can’t underestimate the impact of a home Olympics for those French athletes the pressure that they will be feeling uh yeah so yeah agreed it it’s it’s I mean it’s almost impossible to predict who’s going to have and injuries going in I think you’re not going to really see it um from an overtraining perspective from the athletes that are actually true contenders for medals I think you’re more likely to see that sort of thing from the level below them you know the people that are thinking right I just need to I need to take that little bit I need that little bit extra and I’m in that conversation and I think you’re going to see that people from that kind of that place are going to be the people that perhaps push it a little bit too far I think those that are already in contention for medals already in that conversation they know well their ability and they don’t really they don’t really need to push that extra level they know they’ve got it and on their day they can be there we’ve we’ve sort of come out I think a fair bit already and talked about at podiums uh who we think is going to do well in the men’s and women’s race but like let’s let’s look at that next sort of tear down right like let’s who who do you sort of see being that I don’t expect you to name all 10 but like in that top 10 that that fourth to 10th place like who are the athletes you could see taking those spots you know are there any big ones you you know like people that maybe surprise you or Taylor Spivey if you’re talking about fourth to 10th Place she’s she’s in that conversation isn’t she someone like Kirsten Casper as well she could be up there um you know I think someone like Georgia Taylor Brown I’m not sure she she may she’s a Podium possib possibility but she’s also um and and someone like Kate as well to be honest I think in the men’s the one that I’m really is uh just cuz I’m a fan it’s mtin V real I think I’m yeah yeah yeah I don’t know why he didn’t pop into my mind like of course he’s you know Martin was fourth in Tokyo you know he was he said it right probably the worst position to finish uh I could see him I’m very very fascinated to see you know considering not that he’s not done the short course but he’s certainly being a lot less prevalent at the short course he’s he’s he is already in my opinion one of the greatest 70.3 middle distance RAC we’ve ever seen and it’s it’s not in any way a detriment to him for me to say I don’t think we’ll ever see him win an Olympic medal he’s an incredible ath individual athlete over the Olympic distance but he just I don’t I think we just his his place is set to be that that middle distance champion and then perhaps some long course later in the day well another one for me that I would probably put in that spot and again incredible athlete uh is Taylor nib and the News came out this week that T Taylor nib now got another event added to her uh race kind she was officially selected for the American cycling team correct she’s now doing was indeed women’s Road Race as well is that right yeah she’s in the women’s Road Race so she was already on the cycling team when she was doing TT but theyve they’ve put her in the road race team um it’s like they’ve only got a certain amount of slots so I assume she’s going to race but I wouldn’t be overly surprised if she was a DNS either okay you know it depends I think we’ll see what happens with that one but like I said to um Tim last proper Tim uh was that last week or the week before I don’t even know two weeks ago anyway when I was talking to Tim M Donnell my guess is that she’s going to do the TT the individual race and then I don’t think she’s going to do the mxre relay me neither I might be wrong I don’t think she do um she may well do the women’s cycling race as well and that would be really cool to see I think cson cast was picked for that second relay spot so so do I man it’s a wild for her do you know when is the women’s do you know when the women’s road race is I do not but I can find out if you kill some dead air well get I just think yeah what a what an amazing athlete so this is this is suddenly because I know that every time we I probably should we We every time we mention is we get the comments was it Carol Montgomery was selected I should remember her name now was selected for the triathlon in in uh in Sydney and then another event but she didn’t finish and didn’t start but this is now uh tailor for three events I know it’s c triath but it’s still we technically four is the fourth of August day before mix te Rel yeah she ain’t doing the mix te Rel yeah I I should have known that because I was talking to somebody on the group chat about it um the other day yes it’s the day before the mix team relay she ain’t doing the mixay this is my opinion as well she that’s exactly I don’t know why this conversation I’d already had went out my head yes in my opinion she’s going to do the cycling Road Race she’s not going to do the mix team relay and the fact that she’s been selected for the cycling Road Race kind of proves that if she is going to do the mix team relay there’s no way she’s starting the cycling road race it’s either or you don’t do the cycling road race and the mixed team relay the next day it ain’t a thing cuz it’s long at the Olympics 2 isn’t this the cycling road race is normally quite a like compared to stage two or something it’s very long yeah yeah yeah I mean do you see because I know there’s been a lot of chat lately about uh 2021 wtcs world champion Christian bloomfeld making the move to professional cycling next year uh and I know that Taylor nib already doubles with professional cycl and she’s part of that Tre team but do you think that depending how she goes in that women’s Road Race let’s say she has a top 10 finish or heaven forbid medals let’s say hypothetically do you think we could see ton nib transition away from trth on a move to Cy or do you think she could be more like a camworth or I mean it’s it’s 120k that cycl that women’s cycling Road Race um not terrible actually then I’m GNA say no okay she’s hell of an engine and she may well do very well in the time trial I don’t see her um I don’t see her being at the top in the women’s Road Race i’ got to say sorry say I might be wrong I wish I was wrong I hope I’m wrong I just don’t see it I think there’s there is a there’s still there’s a golf in experience and understanding of the Dynamics of those road race between a triathlete and a actual world tour pro level women cyclist obviously it is known that I know everything about professional Cy but I do like to give you a platform try to demonstrate your knowledge a little bit as well which is why I’m going to defer this to you but in your opinion as the second biggest fan of cycling on this podcast obviously because I’m the first what like how do you see the state of uh proman cycling like is it is it could Taylor like is there more money in professional triathon like is it is it is it a legitimate lucrative women’s cycling is on the up thank God and it’s finally getting coverage and interest and investment that it needs and deserves um there’s still a gulf between the amount of money in the men’s sport and the women’s which is a something that needs to be um uh changed and improved over time hopefully we’ll keep we’ll keep uh um we’ll keep moving towards the right place um but you know if I was someone like Taylor nib and I’ve got this this unbelievable natural talent to be able to dominate my sport Triathlon which is what she seems to be doing she’s so good on the she’s just someone like her who can truly earn a lot of money in Triathlon through sponsorships and race victories and and all of that she’s she’s GNA she’s got a an amazing career laid out ahead of her I wouldn’t gamble that on flicking over to women’s road racing and maybe being an AO ran maybe being someone who who does well who knows how she’s going to go I would I’d be very careful with that decision do you think because us as you where it’s obviously very simple to go where’s the money make but do you think maybe for the personal challenged like she didn’t even look challenged at any point during that San Francisco race and to be honest most of the time she does well she never looks challenged it’s just oh she does a thing do you think that maybe the personal challenge might be something that appeals that again I know I’m asking you to like speculate here which you hate to do but but maybe are is it it’s just a speculation hour um yeah maybe that challenge would appeal but she would have to in my opinion fully Chuck in with procycling to really because if she was going to sign with the pro team they would want her to be like okay you are you’re this is what you do now you you don’t bug her off and I mean camworth is a very unique example it’s a very unique person yeah you don’t bugger off and do an Iron Man or a half Iron Man or a t00 race when we’ve invested our money in you to be what we need you to be for our team whether that’s super domestique whether that’s a leader whether that’s a Time traval Rider whatever it is you are now representing our brand you are something we’ve invested in so you focus on this and you get on our program I could see her doing it for a couple years I could see her post Olympics going you know I’m still young let’s give it a go for a couple years tr’s not going anywhere uh coming back I mean I don’t know or maybe the other way around but I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw T at some point fully throw a hat in the ring with cycling I’d love to see it uh but yeah I don’t know there was a point where alist brownley toyed with it wasn’t there yeah well again I’ve heard recently people saying Christian bloomfeld might do it next year there’s a yeah ain’t happening ain’t happening I don’t see people people talk mate ain’t happening yeah I I don’t I don’t think so either uh I mean we are jumping around I know we sort of but the other obvious psyching achievement that is worth mentioning uh was the Canadian Tom trials happened recently and another TR athlete has won the national TT in Canada uh and that was Paula Finley yeah Paula Finley is the Canadian national champ time trial Champion which is remarkable on a weekend that she went on to have the results she did at 70.3 month R Blanc but yeah she winning time of 3924 over 28 km course which is absolutely banging and um she’s Canadian time trial Champion once more wait you said it was it the same weekend yeah wait so she did the race she did the national TT Championship on Friday and then she went to uh monton Blanc on the Sunday and did that gee I didn’t realize it was so close that’s Christ almighty all right that’s 48 hour less than 48 hours before she went and did 70.3 monr Blanc she’d won the national time trial Championship so we currently have two female National time Champs in the sport of St yeah yeah it’s Canada though is it you know what that mean good Sanders sorry I mean he’s American obviously de B team of cycling I mean was it upsetting for them to have an American win the race you know this home 70.3 over the weekend with Lon Sanders winning the race again I I just I know how passionate I know how passionate they are about the I mean you can’t ask any question to any Canadian without getting them answer Canadian and that’s why I find it so bizarre that he has so many like why so many Canadians like Lon again it’s so weird to me and again I know we get the comments I get it guys but he lives in Arizona he’s clearly American so I just I don’t understand it so anyway Paula Finley went from her National TT Victory to over 70.3 montron Blanc which is the IR man Pro Series race and she won that in 401 dead and then second place Tamar J in 40451 and Ellie salous rounded off the podium in 40458 you know she’s winning her National time trial championship and then she’s off to race She’s Not Just racing any random 70.3 race she’s racing an Iron Man 70.3 that’s in their Pro Series and these are not shoddy contenders that she’s racing against you know Ellie Sal house has got multiple 70.3 victories Tamara J is an amazing athlete with also multiple victories to her name it’s quite incredible because you know what it’s like when you’re tapering for a 70.3 we’ve all done it you wind your training down then maybe on this on the Friday you have a day off on the Saturday you do an activation run or something and then on the Sunday you go and race what you don’t normally do is a Flatout n on half an hour time trial on the Friday maybe people are going to start changing maybe this is maybe lon’s going to start doing this every every before racing should have work for Paul I might start Chuck in in a 30 minute I think it’s it’s going to be it’s going to really rev your system isn’t it if you can do it it might be quite a beneficial thing to do but it’s certainly going to rev your system I I just love the fact that seen Paula have this year where it’s and I know people get angry anytime I say it and God the comments and but I really like that momentum and that positivity that she’s really bringing to her race and we’re just seeing a series of exceptional performances from Paula finle I totally and we it’s like she she is that athlete that um when she’s on she’s on and then when she’s off she’s nowhere and at the moment we’re really seeing her in a rich Vin of form producing results and it’s great to see it because I’ve I’ve when she’s on I think she could beat anybody in the world she is exceptional so it’s it’s it’s fantastic to see uh Tamara jard as well like you know sort of gone missing the first half of this year to be honest there’s you know I I saw her having a there’s two athletes in particular that I saw doing really well at the t00 and that was Tamara Jord and Jason West and both of them have just been MIA this year like completely Mia so to see her get that second place is really really good then obviously friend of the podcast Ellie Sal house in third it’s always good to see you we we love Ellie and uh yeah but mate that race that like absolutely no I would if if if I woke up on Race I don’t care if it was my air race and I trained for 12 months if I woke up woke up on Race morning and saw that weather I’m going back to bed there is I mean yeah I I like a cold you know I like a cold race I grew up in Devon I’m used to it it’s fine I’m I’d rather race in the cold than the hot but rain like that I’d just get sick I’d be sick for two weeks afterwards I know I would because my immune system would just be like yeah all right capitulation brilliant I’ve done and I did I did I’ve done I raced in those conditions and I got sick for two weeks afterwards it’s just and imagine how slippery the B the bike course would be oils coming out the coming out the road surface and they shorten the swim to like 12 1170 M because of the wind like it just sounds horrific like there’s there’s nothing there’s nothing I mean Shan green uh friend of the podcast serial Wier uh you know serial Canada fan uh was works with Nana as a mechanic and he was sending us videos of the transition and my honestly no way biblical reain wasn’t it like get your Arc ready son I just I have I’m I am too old and too stubborn that I just will not do a race in those conditions uh no thanks yeah if me and you were going to be racing that race that morning I’d have woken up I’d have seen the weather and I’d have just text you and said shall we go for a beer yeah and that would have been it was kind of like remember I’m in California a couple years ago where we were meant to have Lon Yan and Gustav race each other oh yeah that was like in the beginning of the the dark times was that 2021 2021 I can’t remember it would have been 2021 end of 2021 because good stuff then went to Florida and then did cona 20221 yeah uh yeah same thing biblical Reign and something they canel that one but just again no no thanks this is a hobby for me I want to have a good time when I do it and I do not want to do it in those conditions like nothing at all appeals to me about that but well done to everybody who did it and then well done to a certain American athlete lald Sanders hold hold you’re jumping ahead before we get go onto the men’s race this left the current women’s Pro Series rankings as follows with Kylie Simpson in first place finel langri in second Jackie herring in third lot Williams in fourth hanury in fifth and they’re descending down all the way to Penny Slater in 20th and after her result Paula Finley is now in 11th place in the standings where is she in the T 100 rankings do you know like are you able to find that quickly because what she I can find that out so she’s 11th in the IM Pro Series she has sort of flitted between the two quite well and and again I think he’s doing quite a good job of of balancing them both without coming out and talking about how her pivot to Iron Man racing or how it’s good to finally fourth in the T 100 series that’s good hey so she’s she’s Charles Barkley Ashley gentle India Paul Finley so yeah she’s she’s going well and she’s balancing it well yeah she’s just like I said it’s it’s very nice to watch from a distance watch what Paula finle is doing this season uh men’s race men’s race lion Sanders isn’t it mate favorite wasn’t a I’m not surprised I would have put lots of money on L Sanders to win this race uh he’s very good at this distance he’s very very good at this distance you then shorten the swim plays to his strength yeah he short In The Swim you negate his um his weakness a little bit you take his bike strength into account I mean I was a little bit concerned um not concerned but I was thinking that maybe the weather wouldn’t be the best for him because we know he does a lot of indoor training I was like you know is he going to be used to these Heavy Rain conditions I don’t think it mattered that much he had a strong bike and then he was just too strong for everybody on the run and he took the win with 33511 Ben Cano in second with 33729 and Matthew markart in third third with 33732 um so yeah a strong victory for him and uh well on liel good old son yeah again I lion is so good at this he’s come out and said he’s going to be going to Lake placa now which by the way looks like it’s going to have a pretty excellent start list another Iron Man Pro Series Iron Man race that’s going to have a a fire start list uh but I just think he’s he’s so I I just wish L did the T 100 Series this year like like TR really it’s it’s it’s his thing I I’m I’m ex any 70.3 he lines up for I’m probably going to pick him for the win as soon as you get to IM man I’m not so sure no I absolutely I think he really would have added some spice to the tier 100 series because he’s a strong enough biker to hang with Sam as Sam’s charging through that field he’s going to be not that far away from him on the swim and they’re going to be coming up through the field together and then it’s going to be a run battle between the two of them and and I’d love to see that just imagine because he’s my favorite athlete in the T 100 series to watch at the moment is Rico our mate Rico but you think of those faces you put Rico with his face was given it everything he can read the emotions in his face next to Lon doing the same thing like gritting his teeth those two running 10 screaming you look but man like yeah I uh hope he gets a wild card or something some point but no like I’m um I was not surprised to say I mean an an athlete that I have again I’m uh not trying to throw Shady but Cody Beals another athlete that I think extremely highly of uh also just sort of hasn’t been featuring this year like there’s I mean Jackson La is another guy I would have expected to do better you know we we saw Jackson have that incredible result in Oceanside a few years ago and he’s he’s he’s sort of again I’m sorry Sean I know he’s your boy and I’m not trying to throw shade he’s just just to me sort of failed to repeat that a little bit and I’m not sure of the reason why but uh yeah I mean the Ben Cano class athlete Matthew marquit uh very good athlete so but yeah I never expected anybody but Lon to win it uh so yeah well done great show and that leaves the current men Pro Series rankings with Matt Hansen in first place Jackson laundry in third Colin shook in third Jackson laundry in second Colin sh in third Patrick Lang fourth Chris lman in fifth descending all the way down in third in 20th Colin sh how do you spell I don’t know how to say that name how you sp s z u I’ve never heard of him no I’ve also never heard of him whoops sorry he’s there don’t come for us I was gutted when I saw that name because I was like hell it’s one it’s another one of those names where I don’t know it it’s very disrespectful James you should practicing I know yeah all manner of disrespectful um so yeah um go and check out the lon Sanders after this race is in 16th Place in the Pro Series rankings and then he goes and does IM man Lake plus it in a few weeks where he’s going to try to get his coner slot so he does indeed yeah it’ll be uh it’s it’s GNA be interesting seeing him progress now I think he’s he’s in a very good place in terms of form and attitude so it’ll be quite interesting to see how he goes there was a a challenge race that happened over the weekend uh as well in Europe called challenge again I’m not even going to challenge waly W wal I’m not sure how you pronounced uh one of our patrons pro athlete Tom epton was there racing but uh looked like a cool race I don’t have much to say about it I sort of was uh Belinda Granger was you know putting out the the race what was happening uh well done to the winners um but yeah don’t have much to say about that race yeah chin up Tom you rack your bike the wrong way around mate yeah know it was it was typical triathlete giving all the excuses Under the Sun yeah I love it though well done mate uh what what’s your next mate where are we going next I want to talk about Lucy Charles Barkley because she has having recently gone and confirmed that she’s racing IR man nce with a possibility of racing the 70.3 worlds as well um and winning that that Iron Man France in the manner that she did she has confirmed that the t00 series is still a full commitment of hers and that next race in London next race in London is huge for her and um then we have the grand final of the T 100 next November which is another huge goal of hers she’s leading the standings so she really wants to perform over that distance the race in London is on July the 28th so she’s got a month to prepare and to go and Chase victory over that 100 km distance and I just thought this was interesting because I was there was a part of my brain that thought maybe we’re going to see a switch now from Lucy to sort of just move away from the T 100 for a moment focus on that on that nce race and and and going to the Iron Man distance and trying to win that but she’s still committed to the pro to the t00 series she’s still leading the standings and you know she’s trying to balance Both Worlds sensible Mr Ford yay or no I mean I think the way she’s I I actually think if you look at the way Le she sort of planned this all that it the timing does work quite well for her you know there wasn’t she’s not sacrificed I mean she wasn’t in San Francisco but like the the the the way she’s structured I think is actually quite yeah reasonable and smart doing the IM man on the E course I actually think is a really clever way not a pro serious like you know takes a lot of the pressure off sort of just has to ratify anyway gets that experience of racing under race conditions which is something a lot of other athletes are going to go in not having they’re going to be able to you know uh you go and train on the course but training and racing on it it’s two very very different things and I think that that course really is I mean yeah it’s um yeah I’m happy I’m not racing on that course after you know spending many many days right in it last year uh I think yeah like I said Lucy this London race it’s not like oh she’s in the like Lucy lives just near London like this is a true like she can probably stay at her place and drive to the race race day sort of thing like this is a true home race for Lucy Charles bar and that’s of course and it’s not an Iron Man yeah exactly no it’s not a full Iron Man it’s not going to have that level of fatigue that level of impact on the body she’s not going to be you know it’s not like she’s throwing in an extra Iron Man and then so it’s it’s it’s the 100K it’s uh I think it’s a good option the the only I guess caveat because we we’ve spoken a lot about athletes coming out and sort of saying that they’re you know focusing on the you know the coner or whatever and whether the messaging is right for the T 100 is trying to achieve I would say sort of caveat and because I don’t want to sound like I’m sort of retracting or going back what I’m saying I still think it sucks that all these athletes are on contract are still s of vocally talking about how important more Champs is and stuff uh Lucy is at least like I’m trying to qualify for World Champs I’m not pursuing the pro series like I think that’s something because there’s other athletes who are sort of you know saying they’re going to do all the 200s they’re going to do the three IM man’s the five 70.3 nce 70.3 like that to me is is more problematic but I like you and it’s not it’s problematic from a marketing perspective but as as proper Tim said um few weeks ago it is also something we are yet to see the implications of that on everyone’s physicality in a year 18 months time we might see some people who really start to struggle with all the racing that they’re doing at the moment I think the t00 series start list is going to look very different next year to this year and not necessarily just as a result of rankings I think that you’re probably going to see a few athletes who took contracts this year probably won’t take even if they even if I mean looking at the way the points go it’s almost impossible not to be ranked well if you do the ti 100 despite what the PCO says it is a closed ecosystem you just have to look you just have to look at the rankings at the moment you get so many more Point like so many more points for a t 100 race than literally any other race out there uh I still think you’re probably going to see athletes who accepted contracts this year who probably wouldn’t in hindsight maybe regret it a little bit and you know I woke up this morning to the the post about Bradley Vice who you know talking about how he’s you going to go do that IM man voria the Spanish IM man Pro Series RAC is saying that he’s looking forward to going and doing a distance that’s better suited to him like and people sort of asking is this is this signs of the pich is doing bad or is there something happen in the background I don’t think it is I just realize the reality of professional racing is your sponsors care about two things is your social media good or are you getting good results and unless your top five is probably even a stretch top three really they don’t give a like it doesn’t cut through for them at all and therefore these athletes like a Bradley Vice who doing the t00 series not featuring adult you do not see you see Bradley Vice as the camera goes the other way and the leaders and he’s half that’s the only time you see him would be so uh worth nothing right so he you know you go into these races yes you got your contract for yes you’re getting whatever the nominal finish in 15th Place prize money is all your other sources no bonuses like you’re not making any bonuses your sponsors are probably starting to ask questions I think that a lot of those sort of athletes who aren’t going to really feature the team T 100 is going to probably unless they think they can feature it’s not just going to be considered an easy paycheck anymore I think we’re probably going to see people shift and and I don’t dislike that just because if you had 10 athletes who were a bit closer that like I said the racing might be better more people might feature but it’s just um I think that yeah the start list is going to look very different next year in terms of who actually follows the tier 100 pathway especially with the option of the pro series now as well like there is another option so agreed and in terms of Segway talking about start lists the London t00 start lists have been announced we’ll start with the women’s Lucy Charles Barkley Ashley jentle India Lee Paula Finley Lucy Byrum Amelia watkinson Kat Matthews imin Simmons Laura philli Emma palent Bown Daniela ree Tamara J Chelsea sadaro maralin Pierre and Anne HG oh an Hal might actually do a t00 series race there you go 15 starters so there’s room for five wild cards on that start list and also it it answers our question about whether there were going to be any implications for ANH how um enacting the injury clause and then going and racing a 70.3 is an age group I love the thought that ANH does the race and like it’s a two lap swim let’s say and she gets out and then she does another two laps and like and what are you doing she’s like I’m actually just treating this like a training day for n yeah this is a training day for the IM I’m actually going to do a 200 kilm race I’m just going to do extra double the Laps on the bike and then I’m going to double lapse on the run because it’s a training day uh mate again you can’t not look at these startlet and just think this is this is cool uh I hate that it do it and I and I I’m very I’m guilty this and I wish I wasn’t but you can’t help but just be like God imagine if Taylor nib was in this race a little bit uh but I think to be honest it’s probably a good thing that she isn’t because she has dominated so badly uh I think we’re going to see some really good RAC in cat Matthew’s home race I think we will see a really good race um and that is the you know we’re privileged to live in a a generation where we get to see Taylor race and we get to see her I think her period of domination is going to be one to remember um but it does cast that cloud isn’t it of like if she was racing she’d just you all up the so the the t00 race is literally days before the Paris Olympics like it’s the timing for me is exceptional it’s the reason I’m there I’m flying to London on a Thursday racing the AG group race on the Sunday Monday on a train to Paris watching the triathon heading home like it’s it’s it’s fantastic it also means that when we discuss wild cards we suddenly have this the the possibilities get exciting because you have yes you have to swipe at anybody who’s been selected for the Olympics no chance however there are some athletes who haven’t been selected for the Olympics that I would love to see off at a wild like I would love to see off at a wild cut and the top three that come to mind for me and I don’t think that there a possibility probably for definitely one of them uh would be Sophie cwell Katie zires and Gwen jensson give those three women a wild card for the T 100 London it would be exceptional yeah agreed who else do you want to who else do you want to see get a wild card I got some on the men’s side yeah Ellie I think would be another one I’d I’d like to see sort of added to that star list you know she you know she’s going strength to strength uh I’m just trying to think like who are those short course athlet like you know who are the short course that aren’t going to the Olympics that that’s again that’s what I think they should do just Chuck in anybody who has not been selected Chuck them in here I think that’ be Chu I mean they’ve got five slots it’s probably the most wild card options we’ve seen so far no there was eight in Singapore remember it was oh yeah there was yeah it was heaps he Singapore uh yeah anyway I just want to see Sophie cwell I think make it happen like as a as a minimum she’s actually the one that is the one that I want to see do the t00 would be so cool wouldn’t it especi again Europe UK race not racing like and it’s a bit of a you to British triathon too to be like you’re not going to pick me you guess where I’m going but you know there are other options out there so yeah I think I think they’d be exceptional let’s talk about the men’s oh the men’s side we got Sam long Magnus dler mattius magier Peter heck Rudy Vonberg Rico Bogan the ledge alist brownley Jason west Aaron Royal David mnam Fred Frederick Funk pH M Ben Cano Leon chevier Sam Lelo Gomez and Daniel B Daniel beckard Daniel B you did me you did me you got into a subconscious then all of a sudden so Daniel’s on the star list yeah beckard yeah there 18 18 runners in this one so less room for wild cards and I’ve got one name that I want to see in that wild card on this one I think that we have the same name and yeah gone Jonathan brownley now I have heard that Jonathan brownley has a wild card for this event it is look unconfirmed I have I I even I was messaging his manager Richard this week for work stuff and I even tried to sort of get a little bit of information out of Richard and he completely ignored it which also probably tells me that it’s true so uh I think I think I mean I know that we were trying to get some guys I was trying to get Max daple wild card to to London a few weeks ago and they were saying there’s one spot and it’s probably going to get a Yuri Co so I think Yuri’s going to get one uh just because of this weird thing that he’s not contracted and people thought he was contracted but then he might just have an automatic wild card but I don’t know that that’s true either uh I think it’s I think it’s you I think it’s going to be Johnny brownley and I think the brownley brothers and Javier Gomez racing in London again wasn’t great in in sanfran but like last year I did an event in London with Phoenix and we had Nicholas spirig aliser brownley and Jonathan brownley give a talk for the for the the event that we put on and we worked out that it was the first time that both gold medalists had been together in London since winning the London Olympics I think having those three together race the podium from the London Olympics race in this first t00 race in London that’s a story no matter which way you shake it whether we think that allly and Johnny and javiera over the hill whatever you want to say it’s a story and it would be an exceptionally exceptionally smart move to get those three in and I mean we’ve seen Johnny sort of dabble at middle distance and not do it super successfully maybe psychologically this T 100 slightly shorter distance which is a lot more comparable to a um Olympic distance race will suit him really well but God I hope I hope Jonathan brownley gets a wild card alist brownley says racing in London holds very special memories for me for obvious reasons I think the conditions will give me the best opportunity to win a t 100 race this season I like the course the temperature will be what I’m used to and I know the home crowd will come out and support us which can make a huge difference I mean there’s going to be a big difference between the level of crowd support for this race and the the 2012 Olympics the 2012 Olympics was mental so was that 2014 wtcs race I saw mental this is going to be a couple of BLS going like me you yeah come on your dog rip it I mean look you may well you may well see there’s going to be there could be a a good level of support but it ain’t going to be 2012 Olympics um comparable where the entire country ped into London and screamed at these two BLS doing triath plus that was in H this is in docklands it’s not exactly the same uh no not a high because this is over in a City airport and I I flew out a City Airport last time I was in London and it’s it’s it’s not downtown London like it’s a little ways out so nope I have spent years of my life working there really yeah yeah good spot I mean there are nice pits there are nice bits of it I used to live on um I used to live on can um on um Canary wolf I was in Canary wolf with the super TR Super League last year it was good spot uh a lot more it actually really reminded me of um downtown Sydney so Sydney has this strip uh I guess it’s like the main it’s called Martin place it’s like where all the banks and everything is and um Canary wolf gave me apart from The Water Gave Me massive Martin Place Vibes like the building structure and stuff was very very similar but this is a little bit further out than that but uh I’m really looking forward to it I think I I you know the race course looks legit mate like you’re fully riding in London I couldn’t when I actually saw the I look the course isn’t publicly available so I’m looking at the old challenge London course yeah that’s that’s what I’ve done is look at the old challenge course but looks like it looks like you’re basically riding a big benon back so that’s cool uh yeah I think Johnny brownley needs to get a wild cut ali brownley uh getting through the race in San Francisco was actually to me real positive yeah he didn’t feature or whatever but it’s a step in the right direction it would be cool it would be cool if he won this one I’ve said that at some point it’s gonna happen right at some point he’s such a good a at some point has to show how good he is and knows um on the we read out them women standings a minute ago so I’ll do the men’s now Sam Long’s leading that Championship um With Yuri kouan in second Magus D in third and Kyle Smith in fourth Carl Smith he’s another one that should get a wild card actually I’d rather again sorry just because it’s personal bias I’d rather car get the Wild Card than Yuri coin so um don’t come at me Yuri coin fans uh one last thing to finish up mate there is another IM Pro Series race happening this weekend in France it is Iron Man disables is that you’re probably better how do you pronounce it Iron Man uh bear with me vend perfect French nailed it probably very perfect French I’ve got the here if you’d like me to go through it I’ve got them right in front so in the men’s race we have our boy Rico Bogan uh Gustav Eden is number two Clement filet minion Aro gilo Nick quintet Nicholas man I’m now gonna start Thor Bendix Madson uh Michael rilot interestingly cam Worf is on the start list Rasmus the Terminator svennson George Goodwin who we’ve not seen for ages really like he sort of featured of that original Daytona race and then is sort of vanished uh Johnny thuel is on the start who’s um Joe’s training partner full-time electrician Racing Pro uh and then in the women’s we’ve got uh Emily Maria Justin Matthew mareline Pierre K curan Maya Sage Nelson Pamela Olivera is a good that’s an interesting Laura Madson this uh new young pro going really well Ruth Asel Nikki Bartlet Sarah sens H Carolyn Paul Renee Key Well Done uh yeah the most interesting things to talk about with this race and I guess the reasons I wanted to talk about firstly we have gusta Eden uh he does this he’s ratified his coner slot which means he’ll be in cona uh but it’s actually not so much about who is on the start list as there is one name that is not on that start list that I am extremely surprised hasn’t decided to make the switch and try to get a spot because this is the last qualifier for 70.3 World Championships by the way and that name is Vincent Louie yeah yeah do you think he’s um cuz he’s still on the reserve list for the French team isn’t he so I would assume that he’s keeping that option as his number one maybe do you think yeah that’s probably I think they’re probably still I imagine there’s still stuff happening behind there’s still happening behind the scenes yeah um yeah yeah because there was talk of a a fitness test wasn’t there yeah um for Dorian conics yeah that’s that’s probably the obvious now you say I’m a bit yeah that makes a bit more sense but I really would have thought we’d see Vince just go it I’m going well he you know I’m going all in on middle distance uh and then try to get that 7.3 World slot I’m surprised we haven’t seen him try to get a world slot at some point uh he would have done very very well at Topo and I I just again would have imagined having you know so many short course guys raced in s you know Leo B has a spot like that’s what I mean Leo B is going to the Olympics has a spot uh you know it’s it’s yeah interesting but R Boran good to see him there uh the women’s race absolute fire Ruth ael’s on the star list hope hopefully hopefully God I just want to see Ruth racing yeah I mean she’s doing a lot of Aqua running at the moment isn’t he trying to get that injury right Ruth is just I just want good things for Ruth AEL and it is it is it is often upsetting to see that she’s injured again but yeah another Pro Series race I mean like I said I uh actually actually this is something I do want to touch on uh I watched they did a two and a half hour highlights package for the IM man cans race that I watched on the trainer on Saturday and my God what a pleasant way to enjoy an IM man race TR truly like if this is a new thing they start doing I am here for it because I didn’t I was obviously on the gry cans and the thought of watching a 8 Hour broadcast after no thanks I’m good uh yeah I’ve noticed they St to put out these highlight packages for their races and I think it’s does the Highlight package still have an obnoxious amount of adverts nope no ads whatsoever they talk it they get they’re like that’s cool we’ll go to an ad and then they don’t so uh on YouTube as well on YouTube so super easy to access uh might watch that tonight one of the better things that they have I mean the only thing the only little thing I’d say is that they don’t very do a very good job of explaining when they’ve made a cut because they’re talking and then it cuts and suddenly there’s 10 km missing you’re oh okay like that’s the only little slight thing I’d say but from an actual like consumer point of view a very a very delectable way to consume an Iron Man let’s put it that way it was uh it is very good to watch so check that out but yeah I uh I’m looking forward to this I still really I’m I’m I’m very very happy with the pro series I think it’s a good step for man I think man are quite happy with it as well so nice love it love it J that’s it 1. Thanks for another great episode Tim and James. I loved the reminder that for many of us triathlon is a hobby. It’s hobby I have had for 40 years that has shaped much of my life.

    2. Hey, you said we have 2 National TT Cycling Champs from Triathlon (Knibb and Paula). But you forgot about Lisa Norden's National Title from Sweden 😊

    3. IM70.3 Mont Tremblant was a "B Grade" race by anyones standards. Lionel is the greatest male YouTuber-Triathlete in the world but is also the most over-hyped triathlete in the world. There are so many guys who have had better results over the last five years who get totally overlooked but Lionel, via his YouTube channel gets all the attention. His best years were back in 2017/2018.
