on Basel day T pagat brought the fireworks and had a front row seat to his own spectacle a third stage win for patar at this chot of France and crucially a huge blow to yonas vingo in the battle for the general classification that was quite simply magnificent by pagat wasn’t it Jonathan it’s an incredibly strong ride he played the day very very cool I mean obviously Vima tried to tried to take it to him and it did not work and it backfired on them and and T is looking to be very very dominant we are going to hear a lot of people saying the tah France is done and dusted that’s it the DC is wrapped up we’ve got six stages to go Robbie what do you say to that it’s it’s almost wrapped up almost wrapped up but it’s still only 3 minutes and 9 seconds that’s not a a huge race over Gap it’s a really commanding lead but if something happens he has a terrible day blows up crash mechanical get sick then three minutes can be wiped Away really quickly but it is a big blow to to Yannis vinard they they tried they went the All or Nothing that we sometimes say to win a race you you’ve got to risk losing it and they they did that and it looks like they’ve lost it and that’s pretty much everything he had but T still got to get there and defend himself and there are still three crucial GC stages at the end of next week we’ll get to that in a little bit but we just saw youas crossing the line with his head hung could he have done anything differently today Dany because it didn’t work but you’ve got to suspect that maybe that was their best case scenario as an option I think before that final climb they could have done something different I think they could have ridden more conservatively as a team are we saying that in hindsight though um no I don’t think so at this stage because we talked about the clim suited him more versus T being steeper and I think on that final climb maybe he went a bit early but ultimately he just didn’t have the legs versus T in that regard he didn’t make a big explosive effort he didn’t put himself in the red he rode on that line that horrendous line of that capacity which is so hard to do but that was his best opportunity to try and take time on T and he just didn’t have it and going back to where he’s come from what 12 weeks ago a huge injury to the man that we have to talk about because I think that is now what we are seeing here he just doesn’t have that real base where he missed so many weeks of training we were having a debate uh as we were watching this is T Pacha parred up this climb as to whether or not Vis maliss bike would have been better Adam leaving it for today um allowing the break to go minimizing losses and then coming out hard after the rest day even team bosses are registed to being armchair DS’s on a day like today Jonathan and it’s easy I think for us all to say what we think should have happened when it’s already happened it’s but what do you think that they should exactly right like there’s nothing more they can do he’s beat by a stronger man on a day it doesn’t matter if they waited till the last climate it doesn’t matter if they started on the first clim of the day tday is stronger that’s black and white we can see it over and over and over again they have to try and like Robbie said it’s an all or nothing and they did the right thing that day when yonas beat Tad they they played it perfectly you know they didn’t yonas didn’t respond to him immediately was able to bring him back and that’s where they saw his weakness in that he was fatigued later on in the stage after going hard hard hard for a long time that’s when he was fatigued so for me that’s what they tried to play on today go hard from a long way out push it and hopefully Tad will crack and I said just before um just before Tad attacked I said if he goes now that’s it it’s done I didn’t think he was going to because I didn’t think he have the legs and yonas was maybe thinking it but probably not hoping it and it happened and he’s just beaten by ultimately a stronger man on the stronger guy and you could say that yonas could have maybe identified a little bit earlier like I’m I’m not getting him in trouble I’m not going to drop him and then sort of ease off and at least try and minimize the time loss or at least stick in his wheel but that’s not riding All or nothing and I think theyve just clearly decided we’re going to try to win it or we’re going to blow up trying and and it was it was blow up and that’s probably a more reasonable expectation to have than expecting Yas just to keep getting better throughout this race and ride his way into incredible form off the back of what’s happened to him early this year maybe I mean I again in looking in hindsight you could say well if if Vima had ridden much more conservatively today and tried to just protect all the resources and see if they could get yonas just to the line with t right with no time loss maybe a little bit of the bonus and then say okay and then the rest day comes and we’re going to get you know a flat day in there and in that period that’ll be where finally sort of the base building of Jonas coming back from his injury will finally hit and he’ll be really good in the last couple days of the race and that’s where we could win it but you know I mean okay that didn’t happen but if you were if you were to look at from the contrary point of view it’d be like well hold on like why did you throw it all in the line if if it’s this whole thing of like he’s going to get better and better yonas is getting better better better through the race and that’s the whole then why did you blow it out today as opposed to waiting for the bitter bitter bitter I guess because the the other alternative to that is he comes back fighting he manages to get some sort of a psychological blow maybe a stage win once again over T Pacho going into the reste then with a huge amount of momentum and planting those DS in t pacha’s head and that of UAE te memor I also think the hard one of the hardest bits is for yonas especially if he’ have waited on tday today they got to the final 4K that’s when T’s T exactly so it’s what what can he really do like if we really look at it use his team better he doesn’t have the team for the mountains let’s face it he’s got Jorgenson but that’s about it when you get deep into them so there’s there’s really so limited to what he can do against T Pacha everyone is he’s the best in the world by far they can still think outside the box and after the rest day we’re going to Nim even when it’s not very windy around there it’s still windy there’s enough they now giv themselves a pretty big deficit but that is another option they’ve got a really good team for that situation Rob’s right is you know 3 minutes a crosswind and crash and 3 minutes is nothing

    1. Trying to find strategies for the weaker rider to beat the stronger rider is sooo funny. Perhaps if the whole peloton rode against Pogačar they could make him crack, but what would it prove? We all WANT to see the better rider win and that's what happened. Tactics is about exploiting opponent's weakness to gain advantage. If there is no weakness, there is no tactics. They can do nothing that's not in the legs of Vingegaard.

    2. JV you are my champion 💙. Could anyone imagine after broken bones, punctured lung and riding a bike non stop for 5 hours at mountains is a remarkable recovery and no one can achieve this level. No matter whoever wins this year JV is a true warrior of this year ❤❤❤

    3. Jonas just did the best performance of his life and the 2nd greatest climbing performance of all-time. I don't wanna hear about the lack of preparation. He's in the shape of his life.

    4. All this discussion is to try to make the tour interesting, but the fact is pogacar has the best today… and all the mejor rivals have had sirius injuries… especially the guy in second. I am very upset with the commentators all but one mentioned that… and last year, with the wrist fracture of pogacar and being in a weaker team, that was mentioned in most of the steges. pogacar got even cocky… some days ago… I hope a divine power gets the field level.

    5. I still think Tadej let Jonas beat him on stage 11 to let them think they can fatigue him. everyone thought UAE had no strategy and Visma were the most intelligent. Tadej is a different breed

    6. When I watched JV weeping when he won that stage a few days ago, the pundits said it was a sign he was back. Instead, I saw a man who was grabbing a stage victory in defiance of his own weakness this year. I think that stage victory was a consolation prize. I think Pogacar may have won no matter what, but the loss of a percentage point or two after his crash means Jonas has no chance.

    7. Pog is a traditional, brave champion and enthusiast competitor. A leader on the road. Jonas is a juiced wheelsucker with one talent. An uninspiring champion.

    8. THere is a big elephant in the room. He is 10% higher power then Lance and Pantini and all that came before him. And can hold it for months. No other endirance sports have seen these types of performance gains….not in the last 10-20 years. There is no magic here……how can this be?

    9. Old visma tactics was immuned to pogi to think they dont have enough strong riders pogi expected this kind of tactics confident enough to have almeida and yates behind his shoulder game over for jonas

    10. Our announcer on the left, who dresses provocatively and stands with legs askew, seems like a store mannequin much of the time. 😂 Is she proudly sponsored by a high-end shoe designer of "stiletto heels"?

Before complaining about the focus of my comment, ask why she draws so much attention to her appearance?

      "Vin-ge-go" is not a proper pronunciation 😮
      😅🎉😂

    11. Why everyone is not happy when TP wins?? Why they always root for JV even when TP won the stage. Both are extremely good riders, but it seems the fans are leaning towards 1 side. I can imagine if TP secure his 3rd TdF, surely the talks of "awww JV just had bad crash, punctured his lungs, TP battled against sub-prime JV". Come on, wake up?! JV chose to ride this year's TdF, so be it..just enjoy and admit that post-traumatic crash with punctured lungs should have some limitations right? I am an avid JV fans but i think TP should receives the recognition he deserves. Visma lose Kuss earlier this year, that was a big blow though tbh. This is a team sport until the last few km's.

    12. " TADEJ POGACAR SET TODAY A NEW CLIMBING RECORD ON PLATEAU DE BEILLE: 39 MIN 50 SEC, more than 3 minutes faster than Marco Pantani in 1998! THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST CLIMBING PERFORMANCE OF ALL-TIME! WOW! "

…and yesterday this strong performance from him

and don't forget how crazy he won the giro less than a month ago

you can NEVER do that without doping…NEVER!!!

    13. All this triumphalism about Pog ‘being the best in the world’ is hilarious
Yes Tadej is the best rider at this year’s TDF, after a long season of preparation, but Jonas is the second best rider after a stint in ICU and two surgeries and six week training period.
Tadej only took a minute on Jonas today.

VSL did brilliantly, with a team significantly weaker than UAE due to loss of Kuss and their leader recovering from a massive injury a mere three months ago.
Jonathan Vaughters made idiotic comments – no wonder EF are not a top tier GC team

    14. Im so over people not giving Pogacar his credit. He won 2 tdf already..geez He placed 2nd last year with a weaker team while fighting a healthy Sepp, Wout, Jonas, and Primoz!!!

    15. How is “he does not have the real base because of lack of training” sitting together with breaking the record on this hill, winning a stage and kicking everyone else?
