These are my experiences of the controversial edition of Free Rides Aachen. The opinions I broadcast here in this video are not a direct attack on the organization and are not intended to discourage the next edition. However, things need to change drastically. This video should also not discourage you from participating in a gravel race. The goal of every organization should be to create a safer environment for all levels. #morebodysonbikes Subscribe to the channel. Help me get to 30,000 subscribers. Follow me on Instagram. Thank you. Let’s go. This really needs to improve. This is about nothing. That first round, bizarre. This is not okay. Here we are again. Here we are again. People, people, people. New round, new opportunities. Welcome to Aachen. Live from Aachen. Ready for the third race in this block. Qualifying match for the gravel world championship. We’re just going to try it again. But this is also the third course in week. We’re starting to feel it. No, I’m really looking forward to it Fresh from Spain. Traka still in the legs. I think this is once again the toughest competition I competed in. Oh, how cool it was. How broken I am. Now we’re going to experience it on the biggest Gravel competition of the world. Never before have so many people participated in an UCI gravel race. 2200 registrations. My god. It’s super busy here. Yes, you expect that when there 2200 people participate. Oh yeah, and Shimano got me a new one pair of glasses. Look what beautiful glasses. Yes, now it looks allot cooler all of a sudden. Come on, let’s go get a number. We still have to scout the route. It’s already two o’clock. Well, we have time still. Do you know where this is too? This is at an equestrian event. The largest equestrian center in Europe. So it smells like the money here of Oil Scheiken. It just smells like horses in here. They’re the same, right? Well folks, the last game of this whole busy first block with competitions. Three Rides Aachen. A new opportunity for me to qualify for the gravel world championship in Leuven. And above all, just another chance to have one nice race to cycle. Glitter and glamor of the privateer gravel prof Car, trunk. And with your bare ass in the parking garage. I’m fresh from the Traka. Quite a bit tired. But also just tired of a period of flying all over the place. I’m still a little devastated the Traka. Really? Yes. Why? The Traka was just very long. But have you trained a bit yet? this week? No. What no? I haven’t cycled for three days. I had to recover. The three days that I did cycle… The two? The two days that I did cycle was three and a half hours and four hours. So that might be a bit too long. And what does your coach Michel Kreder think about that? Michel is on holiday. So he didn’t see it. So I’m looking forward to soon. time to be home again and to train. In the meantime we also have bought a holiday home. So I have to work on that too. But first Aachen. Really looking forward to it. And a top match in my opinion. But also very crazy. How so? The trail is just a bit strange. The Germans have reinvented gravel. That would mean? Yes, it’s a kind of cyclocross. You don’t expect that at all, do you? I thought it was a football stadium. But yes, that’s where I was last year crying that I DNFed after one round. Oh, there! I actually never understood what that was What do you mean you’re sitting there in a stadium? Yes, that was here. And now we certainly won’t go into it DNFing once. That is absolutely not the intention. I really don’t know what to expect. Everyone says it’s chaos. Well, what are we going to do? We’re going for a bike ride. Nice man, I’m looking forward to it. And I’m going for a little walk. 1 chaotic round later. Well, there he is. Course exploration. Well, I’m curious. Well, hey. Good morning. Good afternoon. This is such a strange course. They have invented a new discipline. It’s called Urban Gravel. It’s really great fun. It’s crazy. Very strange, very crazy course. What then? At a certain point you just keep driving the playground. And past a supermarket. I don’t know what to think, joh. It gets crazy at first. It’s gonna be really crazy, You simply drive onto the main road here. And then it goes up a bit. Five, six percent. And then you go into the park. Well, runway wide. Then you suddenly have to turn right here. Very small road. And then it all starts like this the singletrack. Well, that’s going to be chaos. Because no one can find the way. Look at those guys in front of me. And then you just drive over those sidewalks in the Zandpark. Here the bump. That’s the bump. That’s just the bump. And then you drive away. And then you drive again. And then you drive away. And then you drive again. What a maze. And then, I think, you have to go here. And then you have to go left. And then you have to go right. And then you don’t know where you’re going Because it is not indicated. I do not get it at all. I think I’m driving well now. But I just came of the same side of the single track Even though it was indicated. And that’s fine if it’s a little later is in the course. But if you have to do that after two kilometers. That can be crazy sometimes. I think it produces beautiful images. I’m especially impressed at how big this is. 2200 starters. And we start at 12 o’clock. And at 7 o’clock in the morning, 2200 also start for the Gran Fondo. For the road race. I still haven’t seen any real gravel. Except with thick puddles. Okay, off to the acid. What kind of tires do you have? semis slicks RS Then you have a long stretch of asphalt. And then you have one longer steep climb. And then you have a few small ones climbs all the way at the end. The last part of the trail is the same like last year. So I knew that quite well. Do I still have to say the standard things? I think you’ve all heard this. The field of participants is again extremely high. It’s really bizarre how many good people are here. It’s blah blah blah. But I say that every video. So I don’t really need to say it. I can start at the front. I can start right at the front. Um, well, lets clean the bike shall we? Are you filming this? Hotel life. Lying in bed. While looking at the bike. That’s what that boy does. No. You still have to get those things on the bike Douwe. Your number. What number do you have? I have a very nice song. Yes? Yes Show us. 4630. I also need to put one on my helmet. Oh, we got it right. Dont we. Last year I was in DNF. After a round with the stomach flu. Now we’re going to make that completely right. Make it a nice competition. Don’t encounter anything. No whining. Just a nice cycling race. That’s what we’re going for. Cramps! Ah, no boy. Look. Greg and Douwe. We will do our best. Every match a few spots up. I just went backwards. I thought so, but I’m just going backwards. If you go into the forest first. It’s nothing to worry about. I’m not going into the forest first. I don’t know my way there. Yesterday I’ve ridden it three times, and three times I went the wrong direction. All the way there, around There they are positioned. Enormous. The last 10 seconds. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Start. It’s a fight to the first small passage. What is then unsafe because of the parked cars. Total chaos it was. My god. I started right at the front. And of course it went very fast straight away. I walked away a little bit. Thank me later (do you see it?) You rode straight up a climb and then you went right and then again right and then you went into the city park in Aachen. Well that was crazy, yes. You didn’t really know where you were going We drove full speed across the lawn. Nice man! I have no idea whether that was correct or not. Many people have made mistakes, I heard. It was very poorly marked. I just followed the others. In front of me ofcourse. Why is this fence here? I already noticed that I was a little far behind at that moment. Come on Douwe! Come on! We are cycling in the wrong direction. Come on Douwe! Come on! Come on! We reach the forest on the other side Saw the first big crash. I was sitting on a gap there. I tried to come back but it’s sometimes a bit complicated to get back so I streched for a bit. But first a very long straight road. And then you see everyone there. Car on the course. Only I immediately noticed that my… legs are missing 20 watts today. I think they are still on the plane back from the Traka. So I couldn’t really pedal super hard. But still fine on the climbs. Again a car on the course. The first climb with such a style was one steep climb. I drove up quite fast there. I flew past some guys. But then you end up back in the group behind the peloton. Another car on the course. tractor on the course. You can see them riding, The boys sitting in front of you. But you’re right behind it. You can’t really close in on them either. It’s just nearly there untill you are not. Just there, just not there. The wind came, it also blew a little so you sometimes sat on the side as well. I noticed this has to break at some point. That’s going to happen one day. After 25 kilometers the whole platoon is back together. guys! At one point the elastic simply snapped. Do I have to unload? I thought it was a really hectic match. There were also a lot of bends. Unclear bends. Bends and parts in the course of which I I thought, should this be included at all? Is this a gravel match? What are we doing? What are we doing? What the fuck man, this is not okay. Left at the supermarket through an alley. Then through a small park where people just hang out are walking the dog. Really sincere, huh? All people on the course. Cars on the track. It wasn’t safe. It’s really shocking how poorly this was marshaled. No arrows. This race is a fucking joke. There is no marshall at the gates to stop people. Marshals on the side just directing traffic and let the people through. It creates many dangerous situations. I’ve also heard it several times went wrong. A car hit cyclists here the course today. This really needs to improve. This is about nothing. How lucky. Regardless of my result, that is completely separate If it had been arranged very well, I would have had the same result. I cycled for a while on my own. Then I decided quite democratically with myself… I’m going to wait patiently for the next one group on the road. So the race is straight ahead. Feed, team. Feed. Race. Feed. Okay. We need a technical zone with 500 meters, with these participants. Okay, sorry. You can also go to the street. Go, go go! We land in the group. And then a kind of copy, pasted story of Gravel Fondo Limburg starts. Somehow I cannot contain myself. So then I do quite a lot of head work. And I noticed that in this match that drained me. And I think it’s fine if you dont do the work. But then don’t pretend that you’re low on energy, And then still attack at the toughest point. Because then you are simply renouncing. But that’s also my own fault. I could have just said, well then I don’t participate either. It’s going to be something. Because yes, those pro’s will of course go over it. Well, double speed. I don’t know if this is all recorded, but in the last round we come across adne kost. My training buddy, finished third in Limburg. He also had a bit of an off day. And then suddenly there was a lot more cooperation in the group. So then we drove a little faster. I also noticed that we picked up a few guys. Okay, I’m ready for the leading group. I am very curious. Yes, and on the last climb the entire group fell apart. And ofcourse, I cannot come with. It’s really fantastic. Greg ends up in 4th place. I was in the wrong end of the group. And I crossed the line in 61st place. Tough day. Do you want to say anything yet? No. I’m finished. I just didn’t have it in me today. It still went fine. But I didn’t have it today. You just gave it everything you had today. And this is the result. That’s fine. What would it be? Did they say top 50? Do not think so. Lower? yes. I really think top 60. Above 60. Shame. This course was truly scandalous. This isn’t a gravel world series worthy course. If they can’t close it well enough, then it’s so dangerous in the first one round. Bizarre. People everywhere on the course. Hikers everywhere. You are 61. Normally I get into the top 40. And now I’m going to be in the top 60. that 20 watt. But there were things that went very well like the nutrition. I was really good at it. Water bottles went well. Well marked. What also struck me this time, and I am immensely grateful for the amount of encouragement along the way. I thought that was really cool. Lots of encouragement. That was really fun. I don’t think it’s right. We do win. Qualified. No, I dont think so. I had my QR code scanned and then it says yes or no. I’m pretty sure it’s not right, but we do have the medal. Okay, you already put it back on. Okay, let’s go home. On to home. This was a very strange match, I think. Of this entire block, these last three games, this one was the strangest. I’m really looking forward to no competitions for a month. These three matches were three weeks in a row. It was very nice. It’s just, if they’re all in other countries, then it is just so much travelling. But this block will continue nicely in a moment. From June 16 we will go to Finland. And then we’re going to Germany again, southern Germany. And then we go to Switzerland. Three weekends in a row. So the racing agenda continues relentlessly. But I’m hoping for a good month now to be able to train, so that you can regain some fitness. And hopefully take another small step. And then come the matches that really suits me, where there will be more altitude in the match. I’m good at that. I’m good at climbing. Good in tough matches. So I’m looking forward to that. Alright. That was it. Thanks to everyone. And until the next episode. Like, subscribe, all that stuff. Like, subscribe. Would you like to say something else? Share and save and everything. But seriously, seriously. Everything we do here is details But what it’s really about tonight is of course the Eurovision Song Contest. Sorry guys, I’m not 100% focused on the match. The Eurovision is important right now. So Douwe, who won? It doesn’t matter at the Eurovision Song Contest. I’m mainly concerned about all the craziness around it. And is there any today? No. Just cycling. Just cycling today. Well done.

    1. Opzij opzij opzij

Maak plaats maak plaats maak plaats

      Wij hebben ongelofelijke haast

      Opzij opzij opzij

    2. Wacht even.

    4. 3Rides made a lot of money and didn't invest in security, it was undoubtedly the worst organisation ever. What a shame.
The organisation of the competition in Wörthersee was excellent, they should follow the example.

Hoop je ooit tegen te komen, al zal je mij waarschijnlijk gewoon voorbij rijden 🙂 Groetjes uit België keep up the good work man!
