Come along with me for a cycle as I check out the progress of some of the infrastructure projects in and around Glasgow. In this video we have a look at the north east active travel project. Then we head back into town and look at Cambridge street and Sauchiehall street then Pitt street before heading over to the nearly complete first phase of Byres road. After this I head down to the Govan bridge to look at this then head along to see that the avenue project on Argyle street has begun. from here I head home then go out later on to look at the junction on Langside road that will extend the south city way.

This video contains lots of unedited drone footage as it is quite good to see as much of the projects as possible.

Things I say that possibly don’t come across as intended are the developments in Sighthill as it’s frustrating to see the land laying empty. Get it built! Also the land for sale as a development opportunity at Carlisle street will pave the way for a cycle lane LTN combination that will create safe cycling from Milton to the city centre. it also frustrates me that there is lots of areas just to the north of the city that need to be built on. Glasgow north has some great potential.

morning it’s 11th of July and I’m just going to R Glasgow to check out all the infrastructure that’s getting made just now first place I’m going to head up to is brunfield Road in a junction between brunfield Road and walls ra Road they’ve been working up here for a few months now good few months just excited to see how it’s coming along so two B Cy eventually going to come along Brimfield Road and down Red Road behind me but all the work that’s going on just now is going on along here at the junction of Broomfield Road and wace ra Road this cross room is completed in the Easter holidays that’s actually quite good excellent for the school there and it was good that they did it during Easter holidays to avoid disruption to the school uh let’s get it drawn up [Music] so as you can see still a b of work to be done on that project it’s completed from the shops up to store P it’s just got to put traffic lights in place it’s still head all the way back down Brimfield Road Junction roundabout at Brimfield Road and Red Road still to be done and then the project goes down to the bot of Red Road I’m now going to head back towards the city center have a look at Cambridge Street suc Hall Street pet Street and AR street so let’s go [Music] the reason I went along half W Street and down this street which is Caro Street is because this is one of the streets that’s going to be on the city Network it’s actually quite a good Street to be honest Network because it connects to a half on Street which has obviously got segregated segregated c on it but it also connects to sight Hill at the other side and then sight Hill Bridge back at the H on Street side you’ve got ltns that I’ve made a video about already and this is what’s holding it back just now cuz once that residential development which I’m in two minds whether I want it or not I want it for a cycling infrastructure but when that residential development gets made so close to the city center by the way then the c l will get put here and that will connect Mountain poo Ash field parts of spring bun and S to the city center via this network [Music] try to get my head around this all this has been in place for few years now and we still got our this BR the road infrastructure is there this section A small small section of housings already been built there’s the rest here where’s where’s what’s going on get it finished when the initial plans were first put in place for Sight H Redevelopment it was branded a cycling Village it will be a gateway to the north of Glasgow for cyclists I’ve no doubt about that it’s not happening quick enough for my liking and the plans have been released for North an stre right up to the bridge and it’s a two-way CCL Lane on my right side divided into get through there and then when you get through the lights it’s going to cross over hey next up we’ll have a look at Cambridge Street and possibly sucky Hall Street the seag gos are going to love this [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that’s good it looks like a lot of progress happening there I’m guessing the Cambridge Street part is only a few months away for completion which is super exciting he let’s look at pet street now cuz that’s starting to really take shape [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] yeah so pet Street’s also starting to really take shape which is great good connection that that’s real um North South connection and the City Center as well plenty mer that to come I’m just going to go to the end here and have a look at tring Cross I can’t see anything through here oh you can see the traffic lights have all been removed there they’re going to work on this fast because of where it is kind of disrupt the Mist also need know that when they works are going on pedestrians are getting put right out their way as well what a bing take a spit out the way once this is finished this is going to be a really nice f space once all that’s away all that nonsense finished then this bit is going to be great for sitting having your lunch or something oh this pH is nearly finished great great stuff look at that things I love to see Bring It On [Music] he [Music] w oh [Music] he [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] so we’re just going to head down to look at the Govern bridge now get a shot of that going to be finished before the end of the year [Music] so by road that was just that’s just getting ready to open couple of we bits to do it’s looking so good at any time I’m on buyer Road I always notice loads and loads of cyclists so that’s one it’ll definitely you’ll see getting used quite a lot and the Govern Bridge quite a lot has been getting said about that on social media recently one thing it did stand out somebody pointed out there’s going to be an active travel line going all the way for G right up to the top of B Road and that could pave the way for a complete circle around the city of Glasgow which is great next place I’m headed is to a Gil Street to see what’s happening there [Music] that’s fast that’s rapid that’s what I like to see it’s later on in the day but I’m going to head up to South City away to see what the extension on L side roads like and see what the progress was on the junction [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] for [Music]

    1. This was a great video, council should be employing you to show off progress!

Byers Road is looking amazing. I love the look of all the new streets and cycle lanes (when taxi's aren't parking in them!). Exciting times.

    2. I feel like things have finally started to accelerate with the city bike network in these last few months. I really hope they keep the momentum going because it's getting close to enabling so many more people to easily navigate town outside of a car.

    3. Very nice to see that getting done. Some of the unmarked stuff you showed me, at the beginning was a bit confusing, but the later stuff with lines and cycle symbols looks amazing.

People need to remember that "road" does not equal "thing for cars". Roads are for everyone. Telling car drivers not to park on corners, where they block sight-lines and make accidents more likely to happen does not work. Good drivers obey the rule. Bad drivers ignore the rule and cause accidents. Changing the roads so that you physically can not park on the corner does work. Telling motorists to drive at 20 miles per hour so they do not squash kids to death with their cars does not work. Good drivers obey the rule. Bad drivers hurt people. Changing the roads, so the car lanes are slimmer and weave in and out forces drivers to drive at a sensible speed. You don't create a race track and rely on car drivers doing the right thing. You create a public space that forces car drivers to do what you need them to do and that also forces bike riders to slow down when they are close to pedestrians. And once everyone learns to "read" the road markings and the street furniature, they should automatically be doing things in the safest way.

So what's the delay with the cycle paths, where the housing has not yet been built? Is the council worried that construction lorries will trash the cycle lanes? Or are they worried that a cycle lane built before house construction starts will induce demand for cyclists riding down that road and increase the risk of bike owners being hit by the construction lorries? Do they want to quietly dissuade bikes, get the lorry work done and then shrink down the vehicle lanes at the end of the project? Is the council leaving a "wide route" in and out for lorries and then putting in the bike infrastructure, where no more major works need doing?
