[Music] this was already the 10th race of the Iron Man Pro Series here in LA sabl delone in France and this series is really starting to heat up the points are starting to accumulate and this was also the last chance for athletes to pick up some of those coveted spots to the 70.3 World Championships which meant we saw the likes of Yuri kulin here desperately hoping to snag one after this race 85 men and 86 women have been qualified for that race in New Zealand in December and it could be one of the biggest 7.3 races in history but we have to make it to December for us to see how many actually survived this long season Rico Bogan was also here to validate his spot as the 2023 70.3 world champion and Gustaf Eden continued his return and also needed a second finish here to validate his spot for the Iron Man World Championship in Kona however this field was going to be tough for him to go against the fields are just getting deeper and stronger and names are starting to rise out of the Woodworks we were anxiously waiting to see whether he had gotten fitter in the last few weeks since his last race in Poland and whether his new bike with disc breaks would do him any better so diving into the Bay of bis with first over 35 men trying to prove that triathon is the sport to watch and not the tour to France into what was a pretty unique course with a Long Beach Run start before a turn into a pretty famous Harbor this one is known to be fast because of that channel and it certainly was with Nicholas quinette completing it in just over 20 minutes clearly one of the fastest swimmers in the world right now gapping some strong strong guys like Rico Bogan he was basically gliding on top of the water as you can see here Nick has been racing non-stop recently and it did seem like it caught up with them year as he would eventually have to withdraw on the bike but it was a great start for him nonetheless in total 12 guys made it into the front pack of the swim of course including Rico Bogen Yuri cooling Clement Manan and 70.3 mayorca winner and Darkhorse for this race Nicholas man however he was coming off of a dnf at challenge St poulton so he was hoping to make that ride again but frustrating for gustoff Eden he was unable to make this front pack coming out a minute and 14 seconds back with camera Worf coming out in 142 who was racing only his third 70.3 race ever and was clearly in the area just in case for any else and the tour to France but he did pick quite a tough race to jump back into it and missing this front pack turned out to be quite insurmountable for these two as this front pack worked really well together on the bike Yuri took to the front at first but traded Turnin threw out with Bogan and N Gerber who had also s sadly pull out of the race on the run after he suffered a bad crash right at the end of the bike it was such a dynamic European style course with twists and turns and small towns to go through with tight roads and some tight takeovers were happening at certain points eventually the front group was whittel down to seven Clement Manan Rico ban Nicholas man and Yuri kulan were looking like the favorites at this point Manan then showed why he enjoys racing in his home country he’s one of the favorites for the Pro Series right now while remarkably also chasing the T100 tour at the latter stages of the ride the weather started to deteriorate and the rain came down making the racing even more intense camera Worf and Gustaf managed to work together at the end of this bike but they only got themselves up to8 to nth still 2 minutes and 21 seconds down from the front and right now the run for both of them is probably their weakest legs so the hopes of a top 10 weren’t looking great Ric was first off the bike with the other six managing to keep the Gap close and again that transition area proved to be quite tight with some of the athletes struggling it’s not so often you get a large group going on to the run together like this and we were in store for a good one Yuri lost 30 seconds to Nicholas in transition and came out in sixth place with how close the margins of Victory ended up being this could have made all the difference the first couple kilometers in and defending 70.3 world champion Rico was running the fastest and it looked like it was going to be his day it would eventually stretch out to 33 seconds to Nicholas and 45 seconds to Yuri who had worked his way into third place they kept the pace on hot so much so that halfway onto the Run cam Worf was really struggling losing a lot of time Gustaf was fairing a little bit better but fell to 13th Place and was 5 minutes back but back to the front and Rico started faltering because Nicholas man was putting the pressure on and eventually tried to get rid of him after a turnaround with a couple of intense surges trying to get the edge on Rico as he was going for a gel quite a sneaky tactic Rico held on for a bit but then he was gone and Nico had the Gap he needed to take another Stellar win Yuri coin behind would maintain a very similar Pace to Nico throughout and would end up in second place that the 30 second difference in transition proved to be everything and then finally in third place was Clement manani overtook Rico right at the end eventually only running 20 seconds slower than Yuri Nicholas and usually he doesn’t run quite this fast in a half distance race usually he’s much stronger in the full distance race so he picked up some valuable Pro Series points here and he could be the top Contender to win the whole thing he’s got a good schedule coming up with Iron Man Frankfurt zel MC Kona and then 70.3 worlds in Tao and that just sets him up to be in the best position to win this whole thing but back to Nicholas for a second because after meca he said he worked so hard to try and be much more consistent and arguably he beat a stronger field here and he was pretty speechless again in his postra interview this guy is looking like a serious favorite for the 70.3 World Champs which is going to be one r you don’t want to miss and then Yuri in second said it was the best he could do after a difficult period of time following t00 Singapore which he went all out for he took a bit of his mid-season break and went to Ireland with his girlfriend clearly he’s back and will be racing t00 London coming up soon again as a wild card and also he picked up a slot for Tapo so he’s got to be happy and then further back to finishing Paul Schuster is another important result here as he moves into fourth place in the series standing with the same amount of races as Patrick langa and Chris liverman showing he’s also a top Contender and then Gustaf finished 13th overall with a 114th half marathon split which is important to know because here at a 119th back in Warsaw three weeks ago so he is clearly on the menend and On The Rise and we know anything’s possible for this guy come the time of kona now moving on to the women they started four minutes back and they had equally a strong a lineup and it was honestly anyone’s guess as to who would come out on top of this one but perhaps it was going to be 21-year-old Laura Madson who was coming off a shock win in Valencia and also a second place at the challenge Champs or was it to be carollyn pole ranked 33 in the world perhaps defending Champion Charlene pel or maybe even marel lierre who hadn’t raced since her victory at Iron Man Portugal back in October dealing with some health issues she’d been out training though recently with Lucy Charles Barkley and nce so maybe that was a sign she was ready for something special the swim was led out by Brazilian Pamela ala with a rapid 110 Pace clearly enjoying some of that speed of the channel she was also joined by four other women including Carolyn Paul K Curran and Pro Series Chaser Julie Amo followed just 30 seconds back from them was margel and Pierre and Laura Matson found herself a minute back while my stage neelon another Pro Series Chaser alongside Nikki Bartlett or about 1 minute 30 back coming out of transition first it was a front group of six on the bike led by carollyn pole and take Curran push in the pace and Marshall and Pierre actually lost five places starting the bike which would have been her strong suit for this race but then about halfway through they were joined by marel Pierre who made quite a Resurgence and they were also joined by Laura Madson and Nikki Bart who had closed that Gap making it a very large front pack of 12 which would have eventually be Whitted down to nine because of the hard work at the front by margel and Pierre Laura Manson and MAA stage neelson who are really pushing the pace so we were in for another big Run Battle bigger than the men’s with so many of these women jamed into that tight spot again of the transition clearly those setting up didn’t think this many would come in so close together in a half Iron Man race it doesn’t happen all that often cell Madson and Paul were through transition fastest with Maya stage K Curran and Nikki Bartlett all losing time in the chaos they were in for a flat and fast run battle on this stunning course with perfect temperatures and for the first few kilometers it looked like it was going to be a battle between the defending champ clell and Madson as they set off at a rapid Pace while Carolyn pole was losing time but in fact behind them Kate current and Nikki Bartlet were moving the fastest on course and by 7 km they both had closed the Gap to the front and it was a fourway back battle and anybody could win it cell eventually was the first to drop and Nikki looked like she was running the best at this point and might take a win here in her first race since Iron Man Portugal like Pierre where she dnfed due to a serious foot injury so for her to be running this well well coming off of that injury was super impressive she was on Pace actually to run her fastest 70.3 run ever at this point however the 21-year-old she was battling would soon prove again while she is one of the Wiest stars in the sport and continue to pick up the pace while Nikki just began to fade a little and Kate faded a little bit more than her meaning that Laura had got the Gap and she took another fantastic result here win with a 119 30 run while Nikki Bartlett finishing in second place ended up running that fast as 70.3 split with a 11928 and then K Curran finished in third just days after after her birthday all of them impressively along the way broke the course record in what was truly an epic race who knows what maton can do in the future of this sport at only 21 years of age and K current as well at 28 and being relatively new to the sport in her second full Pro year has some serious potential do not sleep on these women for a second and keep your eye out for them in Tapo coming up another important result here was my stage neelson finishing seventh Just 4 minutes back picking up enough points to go to the top of the Pro Series standings Mar Pier is sadly cramped apparently during the whole run and finished back in 12th Place so there we are another race in the books and next up is Iron Man Victoria gaste in 2 weeks and then Iron Man Lake plid two huge Iron Man races with Kona and N spots and we’ll see the likes of Sam low racing his first Iron Man of the Year and liono Sanders as well seeing if he can continue his amazing streak and get to Kona my name is Travis thanks so much for watching if you’d like to see me continue this I need your help please become a channel member for about three bucks a month through the link below which will include more perks as time goes on have a good one everyone thanks so much we’ll see you in the next one yeah it was super close all day and it was H yeah it was quite fun actually to be around that many girls all the time and uh yeah to really battle it out that was fun uh that’s not something that we hear often that it’s fun out there was also tough

    1. It was a pity there wasn't a better footage that we lost Rico's blowout and him being overtaken by Youri and Clement… But omg Nico Mann, it looks like he is the real deal!

    2. Good job as usual Travis, and this time I was there!
I know the place inside out as I live in the area…
Your highlights enabled me to see the race as I missed all the pro action by being in the 9th wave (out of 11).
The rain spoiled a bit of the party and today is perfect sunny again 👍

    3. 5:00 – Cam Wurf wasn’t ‘struggling’ on the run – he’s just not that fast! In fact this was was a PB for him over the middle distance (not just in terms of the ‘official’ 70.3s he’s done before but the various challenge races and odd distance races like Cannes) in terms of run pace – he’s NEVER run a 1:17 half marathon, so he will be well pleased with that (especially given the 2 x 700M soft sand run sections), as he will with being only 1:41 out of the water back from the fastest triathlete swimmer in the sport right now. It’s actually the bike that needs a bit of specific work – he is lacking that ‘punch’ at the top end required to bridge up like Sam, Trevor and Lionel has over the middle distance (and Rasmus – who strangely DNFed yesterday after catching the Wurf-Gustav bunch by half way). In short cam is a deisel, and he needs to find a supercharger for sustained surges over the middle distance to be truly competitive.

It is worth noting that Cam was only released by the team to race triathlons again on Monday this week once they made their final TDF selections – which explains why he entered but didnt race 70.3 St George and 70.3 Boulder even though he was in the country at the time of both races. It also explains why he didnt even race Mount Tremblant last weekend as well.

I think the good races he put together in 70.3 Tasmania and yesterday are good signs for his upcoming Ironman campaign over the next 4 months over the full distance however.

i think Ironman Vittoria in 2 weeks is going to be very interesting for Cam – he is clearly at the next level on the swim and run from where he was in 2022 when he finished 2nd. Even though he may be lacking that punch alla Sam Long to surge and bridge on the bike, in 2022 he still put down a 4;01 bike spit and I’d say he still at that level – or better now (he put out 350 watts for 4 hours single handedly dragging the peloton back to the breakaway at Amstel Gold back in April, and I reckon he’d be close to that form now (given that the team wanted him primed as a super domestique for the TDF if required)…

Of course, sam Laidlow could just come out and blow everyone – including Cam – into the weeds at Vittoria, lol.

    4. A bit too much hyperbole in this one. Triathlon suffers from too many people starting a bandwagon after the slightest hint of good performance, and somehow that wagon follows an athlete all their life.
