In this Wednesday episode, Patrick and Stuart welcome friends and guests to the chateau for a party to celebrate the viewing of the Tour de France. Stage 10 of the 2024 Tour de France passes just 400 m from the front door of the Château de Colombe! They show highlights from the long caravan that precedes the peloton of cyclists, as well as the moment when the group of cyclists actually pass by. Patrick and Stuart also show the beginning of the renovation work in the chateau side kitchen with help from friend Tony @notquiteachateaudiy .

hello and welcome to a new episode of Journey to the chateau here from the beautiful chateau de colombe and how often is it that the tour de France comes by your chateau once at a lifetime and we just had it right so we are out here today again in our beautiful weather chateau courtyard yes we’ve had a couple of really nice days which is really great considering all the rain we’ve had yes and we had didn’t have bright sunshine for the to the fall we had like some clouds cover and it was a bit hazy but helped really with overheating right especially since along the route near us there were no trees for shade so it actually was really nice that we had a slightly overcast day yes and we had friends and we had ran into neighbors of course and it was basically every couple of like every hundred of yards or 100 yards that were people on the side they were oh barbecuing and having a ball it was fantastic I mean who knew it was it was very exciting so they just said hello to our wonderful French neighbors who are farmers and look at this there’s still people working right behind me oh where is it there the harvest is still going on I’m going to go back to our friends and Stuart because it is now 14 minutes before the Caravan arrives and that supposedly is a lot of fun but we’ll find out hope we’re going to enjoy it so this is our little setup this is the turn and our Chateau is right there behind the fields and it was about a 3-minute walk to get here it’s fantastic we have cool beverages we have we have plenty of chair to sharing with our neighbors and here we go that’s our little group it’s absolutely fantastic hello again now the first thing that you see is the Caravan and they there is a car coming by and it has this led sign caravan arrives in 15 minutes I mean it is timed to the minutes it is and you could actually do tracking to see exactly where the Caravan and the cyclist were at was really cool and it did help but it’s the Caravan I well I had no idea still it didn’t either but it’s all these these companies that sponsor teams but not all of them some of them and they have these cool cars that are you know made up one was a detergent bottle and oh God the the laughing cow and it was just amazing and then they throw merchandise at you yeah that was a lot of fun and I didn’t expect that at all it was sort of like a a tour to France Mardi Gras parade yes and of course it’s fun so we had a table next to the road with wine and beer and glasses and they were neighbors so we shared what we had with the neighbors and it was just lovely it was a lot of fun and we we we it was sort of funny that once the cyclist came by the for most of the day we were on stage 10 of the race and for most of that day all the way up until they were past us they stayed in one group very tightly packed group and I was just amazed that they could cycle so close to each other without knocking each other over it was I mean they were almost like sardines yeah and a tin I it was amazing and that was so incredibly fast and I have to say that I’m really glad for new technology because Stuart did some stills and just there were a lot of drivers who cyclists who actually looked and smiled at all of us we were just sitting there so which you can’t see but in the still so it was really fantastic it they had such good energy around about them I mean it was quite overwhelmingly fascinating and really a fantastic time it was yes so back to renovations at the Chateau cuz things don’t stop here hey we had one day we got one we got we got part of a day for that so we did start work in our side kitchen which we had mentioned before we are starting to work on the side kitchen which is between the kitchen and the dining room yes and it’s it was our secret project because we didn’t want to do it we didn’t I mean yes we did but it’s a think it was in the way and the washing machine and everything blocked things and you know as I said you know yelling at the dogs because seven dogs us trying to get through carrying something heavy like a tray with dishes and then you don’t want to step on a dog so you rather yell at them get the way it was a disaster it was and so we decided we were going to start on it sooner than later yes yeah and uh we did start on it and Tony came by to help yes so that was really a lot of progress it was and it’s great that Tony helped us get all the plumbing John was here as well getting the electrical so we got everything moved to the correct side yes so now we are ready for Patrick to do his magic on the floor well tiling is something I really enjoy doing unlike plastering yes and it’s one of those things as you’ve said before uh it’s a lot more enjoyable to have something that has a visual impact yes then to do something where you’re burying something in a wall and covering it up and then no one ever sees the work that you do right true by the way if this it looks weird I have Amber here and oh no it’s Luna so we’re sort of surrounded just having weird arm movements yeah so yes it’s uh it’s really nice so we can actually now really see the enfilade so we can stand on the kitchen and can see from the kitchen door all the way to our other side door through all the rooms and it’s really cool it is and uh also with continuing the flooring which is the same flooring that we used in the kitchen yes uh the stone tiles and we’re going to continue that through so it’s sort of also working on finishing some kitchen project as well just to get everything done all the way through that’s true there are some other things we would like in that side kitchen to have to happen and there are things I’m where we’ve talked about it’s having a small cabinet for glasses just Crystal maybe with glass doors that’s tall but not so deep and working in the what would can call the butler’s Pantry but it’s the the China room again we could put if we find some old cabinets with glass that can put those up and but those are just all wishless projects and oh I digress sorry I mean it’s just it’s still about the side kitchen so you didn’t digress too far but it’s it’s just stuff that would be nice but we can live without it so right and and finding storage for things is just a constant problem everywhere in the Chateau and I think most people have that problem in their Chateau and in their homes as well of course but you you think you have so much I mean have a big Chateau and there’s so much space and there is a lot of space but it’s also we’re not just you know have living life for two people it’s you know there are there will be this soon a whole week where we have the gite is full the bed and breakfast room is full we have have friends come to visit we have patrons coming to visit all at once every bed is taken and so it’s then breakfast lunch and dinner and so it’s we need a bit more more porcelain than we when a normal household would so here you go we need more storage right busy times yes yes so that’s it for this episode if you like it please give us a thumbs up subscribe and recommend to your friends please it helps us a lot and we’re are almost we are 32,000 right we are we passed 32,000 thank you very much onward and upwards yes and if you want to support the renovation of the Chateau you can join us on patreon or there’s a website called buy me a coffee and we will see 1. Stuart & Patrick, thank you for such a wonderful video! How amazing that the race went right by your chateau. And even better, you were able to enjoy it with friends. So cool!

    2. Dang … you didn’t make it to the tv coverage . The camera paned to the big camper across from where you were sitting just as it went past you . I have been lucky enough to go to the start of 2 stages and yes it is great fun 😊

    3. Very the hydrangeas looking so lovely and the Tour de France great to watch having a nice celebration with friends sharing this amazing time together and after good work always well done with the flooring for the kitchen project see you soon bye

    4. I swear Jonas Vingegard (current champion) looked straight into your camera. He must have been thinking, OMG it’s the guys from Journey to the Chateau. I have watched the tour on TV for years and had no idea there was a caravan of floats preceding it. Fab video

    5. Bonjour Patrick et Stuart. C'est un véritable honneur, pour nous français, de vous avoir parmi nous ! Nous sommes fiers et heureux de voir à quel point vous aimez notre belle France. Merci beaucoup chers châtelains ! ❤🙏🏰

    6. Hi Patrick and Stuart, I agree that was a beautiful video watching the top-notch cyclist. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see that. I agree with the other viewers your hydrangeas are beautiful. It was great you had help with the electrical and plumbing for the petite room. Looking forward to your next video as always. Just to let you know, I admire your personality traits.😊

    7. Always nice to have down time to organize and now your space is functional 🙂 Glad you could see the Tour de France up close it is a thing to see 🙂 I had an ex who was a professional cyclist for many competitions including TDF he's retired and lives in France. My cousin has also seen it and her family for the first time this year. Always something going on is the best thing about France. I hope you find a good cabinet for your glassware. I saw some stained glass on another channel Kirsten and Joerg channel if you are interested. Not antique but well made custom designs.

    8. 🎉how wonderful that you are right on the route! Now we know where to stay! Stewart, what you said about the cyclists, I had just said those exact words to my husband while watching your video😂
Love seeing your visions come to fruition 🙌🏼

    9. See the cyclist’s in that group made me get goosebumps. WOW. Amazing. So cool that you Patrick & Stuart get to witness this. This is Historic.

    10. That was fantastic to see, thank you Patrick and Stuart.
We were so intrigued to see all the entourage etc go past before the riders appeared as we weren’t even aware that all of that happened. We also couldn’t believe how tightly packed together the riders were. No wonder the accidents are so bad when someone falls or bumps into another rider!
Tony is just the best sort of friend to have and does a perfect job of everything. I thought your smooth concreting was a triumph too, just a perfect surface for your tiling Patrick.🚵‍♂️🏆🍾🥰

    11. Dear Patrick & Stuart

      perfect choice,
as you will be together forever………….
      sheer beauty, stunning,
      absolutely fabulous
      darling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      magnifique

    12. Hi Patrick and Stuart, How exciting to have Le Tour de France ide past your front door, it is just like a Mardi Gras parade in such a good way. Great progress in the side kitchen. With T6ony and John everything gets done in a timely manner and in between guests. I know your pain of not enough china crystal and possible flatware when you have guests and of course you need different f everything for each meal of the day. Limoge does have an outlet store with bargains by the dozen. Plan a day to make the trip, it will not disappoint. Mark & Scott
