Mountain biking legend Andrew Neethling is in studio!

Olly and Davi sit down with Andrew Neethling to talk about his recent Mega Avalanche experience, Amaury Pierron’s insane comeback and the resurgence of Greg Minnaar. Andrew breaks down his LCQ idea which he thinks would make downhill racing more of a level playing field for riders along with talking about the venues that he’d love to see on the World Cup schedule, riding the DarkFest course, creating a union for downhill racers and fatherhood. The lads also talk about their visit to the McLaren F1 racing facility.

I’m not trying to make changes for the sake of it because I think this is a good idea I think it’s a fairer safer way to do it for the sport yeah and I’m hearing there might be changes maybe they’re similar maybe they heard it maybe they didn’t I don’t it doesn’t bother me yeah but protect the sport protect the [Music] sport we’re on welcome to the show Andrew n finally finally person this is nice man this is nice this is virtual friend is in person it’s quite cool is that a non-alcoholic one oh [ __ ] oh I remember my first beer in the in the first two seconds oh no oh my this I I feel so relaxed for this podcast dude let’s that set theone he literally pissed himself is that set the tone yeah I think so that sets the tone for how prepared and professional you were for me we’re actually three podcasters right yeah this should be good really it should shouldn’t it I’m glad you Andrew should you really are taking this seriously to have me on which whose podcast whose channel is this going on by the way is this going on the ride companion or is this going on moving the needle uh depends I think it’s only fair it goes on yours we’re in your studio well yeah agreed I just did the clicker board but then like also I feel like there’s less pressure to actually ask any useful question questions if it’s going on mine yeah yeah exactly I can be so lazy then yeah let’s you sit back and wait shall we should we just be lazy yeah we could just hang out that’s not like yeah we might just be yeah I mean I have set the T with that that’s really bad I’ve done four too much talking for not being the host go for it I appreciate you mentioning the iron as well that’s something that I’m really mindful of these days and it gives me a bit of a complex because everything I’ve got is UN ironed CU I’ve lost the iron M you get those um sh you don’t need it used to hey me myself no do you at home does someone outsourc is it outsourced you guys Outsource you’ve got you’ve got you got Doug do you film your own podcast no you Outsource it yeah Outsource yeah there’s levels to the game ironing anyone can IR I have it’s it’s a prop what do your socks get ironed no you strike me as someone who could iron could could have iron socks um watch yourself dude thanks for coming you’re probably quite tired because you’ve just done the world’s largest mass start in what how do you categorize the mega Avalanche how do you yeah great question uh probably different for a lot of people world’s largest M start Mountain bik race yeah I think it’s fair to say it’s like gravity Mountain Bo race yeah it’s been going for 29 years so I think it’s the most well-known exotic extreme mess do I it’s a bucket list it is I’ve M biker have you done it no it’s on my bucket list I haven’t done it no it is on it is on my bucket for sure it is on my every year it comes around and I’m like so what stops it I just I I think it’s where it is in the year it’s just like by that point in the year I’m so I’ve I’ve been away lots and I want to be at home oh because it’s summer yeah yeah and it just starts to be sunny and the trail start riding you would enjoy it you like difficult stuff I know you I know it love hard difficult things you get like fulfillment out of that I think I would enjoy it you’d love it you do as well right I know what comes after doing difficult things but I’ve did that for a long long time um Mega’s hard it’s a hard week it’s actually yeah horrendous right right I don’t understand this like de DS is always like oh you’d love it you get so much writing done in the week talk me through what you do in in a week coming up to the mega Avalanche up to the race yeah why is it why is it like a week of so much riding so the mega Avalanche the main race that everyone’s seen like gone viral starts on top of a glacier and then that goes all the way down to this town and that’s starts at 3,300 M of elevation something like that on the pig Blanc but that’s the RAC trck that’s on Sunday qual track is a total individual track that’s 15 to 20 minutes depending on how fast you go right and and you’ve got to go and learn that one because it’s critical that you get a good position there because that dictates the grid of the glacier okay so there’s 10 heat races 125 people per heat wow and like top three get number board a and then all the A’s so only three people from each heat 30 go on the front row right minute you’re on the second row you’re not looking good minute on Third Road it’s like well you screwed from the get-go so you’ve got to learn the quality track totally different you get practice Yeah you get to practice you decide like how much practice you do and what you prioritize practicing a 20 minutes so we actually did more qual practice than practice of the qual or road that track a little bit more than the main one we only went up once to the glacier really got to go up get first lift hope that the conditions are good Jonah and them him and the lads went out his mates they had Bender the night before so they didn’t get up to glacia till 12 it’s FY they were basically walking down the snow where we had the most perfect peace bashed snow ever so that’s kind of why there’s so much riding you got to you can’t really learn the tracks you got to go and ride get your bearings like it’s quite spread out and chaotic and it’s not that well signposted but if you’ve been doing for a few years you kind of know what’s going on decks super Keen so you just phone decks how do I get to the Quality track no you can take this leftt down there they don’t tell you then go up there you can miss the Traverse okay we’ll do that so it’s just a cool so the whole thing’s open so you can do as much you could ride the full course if you wanted to yeah and just get a few runs in yeah if you wanted few runs of a 50 minute yeah if you wanted to you could a few that’d be three hours of riding imagine BL sh mean we we were filming filming for project so we stopped a lot of times okay and then every time we stopped me and Bren are like well that’s quite tiring and we’ve stopped 17 times in this section and we’ve got to do this without stopping so you do build yourself up like wow this is going to be really tough but I think the toughest thing is the altitude and how physical is cuz there’s traverses uphills people like you’re passing people people are passing you there’s always some deckhead behind you trying to go past you or you trying to get past a person you’re never quite just chilling yeah yeah it’s quite the dream really it’s pretty cool is like so unique I like cuz I like having people around that’s D i’ never got that just being on your own just your head having someone to pick or like someone behind you that’s that’s a bit yeah you just get into like a not a flow state but you’re just reacting the guy in front of you then he’s going a bit slower so you can maybe take a rest if you have more Pace but it’s so tight you can’t pass him like okay nothing I can do here let’s wait for someone I can pick him off and if you’re not concentrating some guys done the same to you and he’s come up a brow and he just cuts in front of you so now you’ve lost another spot and whether you’re there to to win or not you don’t like getting passed oh mate I can picture it you’re a World Cup veteran you know you’re quicker than nearly everyone there on a descent so anytime there’s a flat spot and someone comes past you’re like oh is someone I’m going to get stuck behind is that how it feels yeah a little bit for sure it’s just so unique I you’re right it is a buckus thing and I haven’t done it for 15 years I did it once and I did the one in Reunion Island that’s quite fun as well and I kept telling people like if you ride uro or Danel you enjoy Trail biking just go and do it it’s just so unique where do you start on a glacier with okay the main race has Whitt down to 500 people unless you’re a pro and you got good results or you entered super early or you know someone and you beg borrow and steel for a front row of the qual then you got a good chance to get near the front you can be buried in the pack and that’s actually the best part yeah cuz it’s just chaos more fun absolutely right so where did you start the qual uh luckily we got front row uh for the quality next to kilon Brown I was like okay well this isn’t going to go well I’ll just follow you then cuz he still like focuses on a few select end and he does his projects so I was like okay well I’m just going to follow you to the first snow bit and the quality is like a maze it’s quite a few tight turns and it all funnels single track in the turns and then it goes into they call it the moon it’s just bunch of Flat Rock and snow patches that are and you can go 80t left there’s a line or to the right 80t and it just goes like this so you’ve got to figure out where to go um so yeah came what you what what did you use to figure out where to go other than killing well yeah in the main no but you go so you go up and practice and then so I went far left Bren went far right you know Lori he tried to go middle he just jumped onto the snow bike just disappeared down straight down over the baross whacked his chest okay we’re not going there so that Line’s ruled out cuz Lori crashed that was Jon o as well did that didn’t he yeah yeah so then we went back up again I said Brendan I’ll go far left just like all days you go far right and by the time he got to the Moon I was head he’s like okay it’s far left so decision made and then you just figure out which one’s going to work best for you I guess wow so there’s 80 foot between those two lines yeah it’s huge so the feeling of like do you get on a race course or if you’re trying to go quick I have that feeling of like what if if I get something wrong it really really bugs me like oh I went outside of that route and I I’d aimed to go inside of it or whatever whereas when there’s 80t between lines is it like that is it like you come out of it like bummed that you’ve lost some positions or not not on like small margins like that but the snow I messed up in the qual like I didn’t carry speed I drifted said three people pass me I’m like this is the most critical part of the qual is the probably the first 2 to 3 minutes sets like your position and it’s very tough if you lose like 30 seconds and you’re in 10th Killian’s gone he’s got clear track like and the second guy’s probably getting dragged by him I don’t have the fitness or the talent or skill level to like make up seven spots so it was so critical so I messed that up I think I came fifth in the qual so I was then B Bren got fourth in his Jonah was third so Jon was front row on the glacier it’s fine you’re on second row you’re like kind of sneaking head if you’re really good on the you know like the go you can get ahead and there’s going to be a pile up like it’s like a lottery on the glacier but they took us up unfortunately the weather came in overnight yeah they’ve got to be safe so we went back up to the qual track so we did top off of quali into a big climb into the bottom half of the main race okay so it was a different Mega this year yeah unfortunately to different c yeah you do go up the glacier because of the danger that to can that um so it’s way more physical and then the starts way more crucial but because you Buri we were buried in the pack me and Bren went on to the first crap snow bit 40th maybe trying as hard as we could like to get just funnels into single track it’s really yeah that’s luck of the draw I mean you earn your spot to be in the front but the glacier would have been a lot more entertaining and more chance like we weren’t there to do anything special but I guess once the gun goes you’re like well I do as good as I can with my potential you know it’s funny you can’t help it can you no you can’t like I it doesn’t bother me um but there is that little switch like if you’re there you might as well try try with what I came with what preparation I had and who’s there but I wasn’t going to risk like life and Lim which some of these guys are I think they’d be little cues as well like if you’re following someone into turn and you see them hit it bad you’re like well I need to not be behind this I need to be not behind this level of cornering I yeah on the bottom was frustrating cuz then you don’t want to be rude so you see that and it was super slippery like not comparing it to Le what those guys were writing but the lack of traction it was an ice ring down the bottom off just clay and I see this guy is kind of struggling along and but I mean he’s ahead of me at that point so he’s clearly done well on the snow or past me on the uphill and I was like please move four turns lateer I’m like on I can’t go much slower and have traction so this is not helping both of us and there’s a guy behind me move move move or in French like don’t to be rude I promise it’s not me you know there’s traffic someone hit a red light here it’s not me so like it feels like 20 turns but it’s probably 10 I’m like please move whether he was trying to move or he just messed it up we’re top of this steep shoot that he gets it wrong slides out I’m like okay this is my chance bike gets in the way I hit the bike foot off upside down I managed to just grab onto a grip and we start sliding both of us like 20 30 foot down so you’re just trying to keep your hands yeah and I’m like trying to get up and I’m just slipping I’m like oh that didn’t go well and then the guy behind me that was like move move he got by me so I was like oh you got out of that quite well but at that point I mean like I said I was just there to have a good time it was it is cool like I think the biggest thing is you’ve got all these different people from the pros that take that race very seriously and are experienced there’s guys that have never raced a race never a dial never endure and pick this race to figure it out it’s there’s that much vast like variety of riders there how weird that’s M you know that’s got like oh yeah let’s give let’s give mountain biking racing a go and it’s and then they decide to go to the craziest M start one that’s a pretty crazy race got more balls than you two oh yeah for sure I’ll do it next year you guys have to do a ride companion do that I’ve said so many years I’m going to do it and then you have to it’s he’s yeah okay put it in the comments Mark the date do Mega R launch D you you would enjoy it I think and it’s a tough week like it’s tough it’s physically demanding you’re at altitude you you gas yourself normally on the the snow as I said oh it’s really critical so you know it’s critical you’re pushing as hard as you can then there’s a climb then you’re into single track it’s arm pump already like 5 minutes in and then you think okay I’ll settle in like maybe there’s a slower ride you Cruise a bit and then you hit the next climb and you think okay I’ve recovered no yeah just got this altitude burn try take a sip of a camel back just coughed it all up into my full face you got goggles on oh like actually I’m the way I’m describing I think why did we even I mean half done I was like why why are we here but then as soon as you finish you’re like oh that was cool and then how was your run and this happened and is it like one of the first times that biking’s been like type two fun you know what I mean by type two so type two Ro educate me yeah you’ll probably be a to explain type two way better than me cuz type one back imagine back flips instant fun instant gratification that was sick not last time I is true that was type two thatp I don’t know what type two is oh but not type one type two is going to be a long road ride at the time oh it’s so crap I think me is the best examp you get to the end and you’re like actually that was pretty fun that’s type two fun yeah but it’s like delayed gratification and it’s like doing hard things make you you know yeah but it’s rare that biking’s like that isn’t it it is for me anyway usually it’s type one yeah you’re type one aren’t you your your e uplift yeah done I’m type one now for sure you’re P pure type one like if I only have to ride for an hour great have a great time at it that’s good I don’t have to be out there for 5 hours yeah some people love that that’s a new way new way of classifying you are a mix that’s what I thought you would like type one bike is oh yeah I see what you mean type one is the E type two is the regular bike you can make it you can make an e type two yeah you can make I did I did try to like survival train for this event I’d go from my shop to the top back down to the top within 50 minutes and it was 1,000 M of vert total yeah so a day pin it as fast as I can to the top come down like 10 minute run pin it as fast as I could on the E Yeah so heart trate like zingan what well you can I me we know that you can go hard on E heart rate heart heart rate is gnarly isn’t it on E you can make your heart go so fast and your legs not be completely pooped I think that’s what’s cool Co I like that you do lose a bit of power if you ride e like the whole time I think dude we’ve got so we’ve got so much more to talk about I’ve got in my not not you made notes yeah I’ve got notes yeah they’re just I don’t want to show you internal yeah they’re internal and I’ve got them up there actually see oh the teleprompter that one can seeig but we’re going to get on to those exciting topics after the break Davey I want to talk to about hindsight dude oh right hindsight so much biker crime happens in the UK and I dread to think how many people think oh I listen to that lacer ad on on the ride companion and I wish IID just carried it out got insurance for my bike yeah you know what I mean yeah definitely mate you’re right so we’re here to help are we or is that what we’re going to do well we are here to help but what what I was kind of thinking was I wish I could do the same with health insurance you know what I mean cuz I’m banged up I wish I could have just yeah wish I yeah should have would have could have that’s how I feel right now a lot of people live should have would have could have yeah and so many people do with bike theft and like I right now wishing is a gnarly thing is it sometimes you like let’s say unfortunately you have a bike stolen or you get injured and you just think imagine that time when I was sat in a chair yeah on the website yeah ready to do it and all I needed was maybe like a bit of a nudge a bit of a deal yeah which we can offer well for for bikes obviously you go to laca what do you do for health because that’s obviously well yes you can also go to laca I didn’t know this either until recently dude but laca now ho offers health and Recovery insurance so what do you want a couple of facts I’d love a couple of facts it’s not already in my bike cover is it it could be depends which B cover you’ve got okay it be so it’s a new kind of recovery policy for mind and body right made with cyclist in mind for less than an Americano a week depends where you get your americanos from they’re only like what couple of quid couple of quid cover that goes wherever you do which is worldwide like you Mr worldwide thank goodness I didn’t of mountain biking I didn’t want to ask a question yeah okay thanks for ask cover that does whatever you do which is cycling you I like cycling yeah skiing not got the buns for SK but maybe one day never hiking hiking I like hiking been doing a lot lately I surfing surfing I’d love to be able to Surf I need to swim first but it’s good to know and jet ski jet ski’s on there are you serious yeah you got jet ski they put jet ski on there yeah got J go there uh it’s five star claims experience home or abroad and it’s made super simple dude all you have to do head to lacquer. obviously we talk about Lac a.co quite a lot do the best bike insurance it’s made super simple they flipped Insurance on its head okay they don’t charge you a fix Su every month you only pay for what the collective has sort of uh what would you say dealt with yes exactly so you and the same goes for health as well does it same goes for health as well does it yes that a a cool model that is yeah really cool it’s uh M I love laca do I’m glad we’ve got them back on board and we have got a bit of a deal for the companionship right so all you have to do head to laca .o to sort your bike Insurance out enter the code ride companion 30 what is it ride companion 30 is that lower case uppercase on screen it’s flashing red and blue oh yeah that’s ride companion 30 at laca Co there you go and what do you get for that what is it like like what’s the offer you’re going to get 30 days free bike Insurance fre so for 30 days it’s free 30 days you have 100% peace of mind for free that’s a dream really is it it’s really good yeah you could be really Cavalier yeah you 30 days yeah you shouldn’t be no yeah good point but you could so yeah that’s 30 days free insurance bike Insurance not Health in Wellness with code ride companion 30 that’s flashing red and blue lac.com amazing so good to know they do health insurance I’m going to get that added onto my policy right [Music] away and we’re back what a break it was what a break it was should have used it to get changed but turns out I didn’t still sat here wet through covering in beer so another race went on yeah have you already you you’re absolutely gassed on the other you’re oh le le went on when’s this coming up this week probably Wednesday oh wck it yeah probably Wednesday so L just happened I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet because I’ve been driving down here oh well you only really have to watch one run dude is that true no no actually there’s there’s I think you can do that the last couple of races right two no no I’m I’m being silly Whole 30 don’t cut good reason why the whole don’t cut that out everyone is riding incredibly well you just have a guy doing some crazy [ __ ] at the moment really crazy what is he doing that’s like not obviously so crazy but why is all of a sudden Amry just hit this form do you think have you got any insights no it’s not I don’t think it’s all of a sudden maybe it’s quicker than you thought he would coming back yeah being being away for a year with a head injury yeah neck and back that’s hard but the way he crashed was unlucky you know just looking back I mean his I don’t know what he went through ment to it sounded you know dark you know you’re going from Top of the World winning races winning championships and he had a really unlucky crash to have such a bad injury so I don’t you know I don’t know if this sort of I was pushing too hard trauma of the crash it’s more just like getting back and and it’s tough coming back but I think I guess no one I don’t think he expected to hit this type of form so quick I’m sure he hoped to get back yeah we’re not surprised he’s back to winning do you remember what his results were like at the start of the Season yeah top 10 off the top of my head Fort William I think he did sneak I want to say he snuck into the top 10 I mean I tough for me to just pull it now but he was disappointed with that right it was the anniversary wasn’t it or something it was like exactly a year for that shows you if he’s the first race back at Fort wh a little bit he he seemed like a little bit despondent like [ __ ] okay like am I going to get back to the podium that’s what it sounded like and then Leo gang memory serves I think he qualied or semi whatever we need to call it I think he was fifth right and he overrode his race run I don’t so then to me he didn’t quite know the level to go from semi to final right and I think he attacked too hard made some mistakes but that’s a good that’s learning for him he’s like okay so that’s a little bit pushing too hard I’ll make the mistakes He adjusted that and then vder was just this perfect storm him getting the level his level correct how hard to push on a gnarly track committed it went so right other people made mistakes other people were cons more conservative and you had the chance for him to put that time into people yeah where people was I mean if he didn’t do that dax’s run was it is world class if Amry wasn’t there you go wow Dak that was an incredible you won a World Cup the way he did it was amazing you looked compos the whole way down and when you’ve got the top guys scratching their head then you know yeah like it’s something special yeah it can happen on a longer track okay well the soul is not the shortest tracks the time can be longer uh time deficit can be a bit bigger yeah the conditions play into your favor if you’re willing to risk a bit and you get it right and you have the skill and the fitness and the bike setup all those things it can happen so that’s that was well the soul you didn’t expect to have it happen the very next week no it was another perfect storm for him okay to me it seems like uh success before the like before injury and after injury these ones seem like there’s some is there potentially something in like maturity like racing maturity so you kind of I feel like when I used to watch he used to make a lot of mistakes and he was like right on the Ragged Edge the whole time obviously he still is but like it seems like he’s got it now doesn’t it he seems he worked it out yeah I think that’s fair to say that like you get maturity things can go either way like it can be traumatic to come back from injury like you know um he’s used to winning he’s used to going that quick um and I can’t speak for him but maybe some of those injuries he was having before the neck one which was actually unlucky he’s had some really big ones yeah that could have been bad or were bad so maybe there’s that level of maturity of when to push when to get into that Zone um and I think you know with timeing said there’s maturity he’s probably grateful to be back he like lives to win races right it means a lot to him you can see when he finishes like how stoked he is with the run like I think he could see the time but I think he just knew the way he delivered that run in those conditions he seemed happy as well so again I can’t speak totally for him but yeah maturity helps the experience um yeah it’s just it’s really impressive to see and I think he just wants it so much more when you’re forced away from something then you realize why you want to do it and what makes you happy and his attitude in Le was excitement happiness to go up and and and sort of have the chance to deliver aun in those conditions whereas someone was like L you would guess and it looked that way he was protecting the overall as you would a lot could go wrong there for him do I kind of think as well if you if you hurt yourself whilst you’re like peing and and winning races through the injury process I doubt you really stop racing World Cups you might be at home or you might be in the pits but you’re still racing the World Cup you’re still completely there in your head you’re imagining your run you’re yeah great Point yeah so so he’s still you still end up like growing don’t you through did he miss the first year then of the semi thing yes yeah I was Happ a lenso that’s great Ollie I mean I’ve yeah I think you can learn a lot from watching racing watching video analyzing yeah maybe he’s doing a lot of reflection and I agree if you at the height of your career your motivation to get back is huge if you’re at the tail end I mean that’s a big push to get back but for him isak right there he wants to get back so every physio appointment all these doctors things and he’s going for you’ve got this big carrot like not for him probably I would guess like yes get back to racing but maybe as soon as he knew he was going to ride again it’s like get back to winning that’s why he’s frustrated at Fort William it’s first right back tough track you know it’s tough to flow at fortam will so I mean that’s probably the biggest backto back winning margins you’ve seen without looking at the stats I saw someone Tagg like on Instagram looking at it since 2012 I saw yeah I think it’s the biggest winning margin since 2012 no not so no but back to back sorry no no gwin has the biggest winning margin was 12 but it must be 16 so gwist has the biggest winning margin right but backto back races if you add up the time like I don’t think gwy did that I’m not I can’t I don’t want to look at the stats I don’t think it’s happened no what’s it going to take to stop him now if you’re a rider and you well I think like I think those conditions help the other Riders if I was other Rider like you’re always I’ll be honest not you do often look for outside influences when your race doesn’t go well and then you look internally if it does go well it’s not always the correct way but for sure it’s like well the weather I didn’t push I was protecting the overall Finn had some really good splits conditions you know he had a mistake like do you lose confidence that not really yeah if it’s bone dry and you have a perfect run someone beats You by 7 Seconds that’s tough mentally I would guess I would know I’d love to know I’ve been smoked enough in my life or was like that’s if you have a really good run and get beat and you nowhere near your potential then that’s hard to come back from but a rain what do you do you just go well could have would have should have yeah yeah you run the risk telling you know radio anything through don’t you I think so everyone’s coming off in this section you don’t want to tell someone that do you or no you had to here man well like be safe through this section or like how do you even word it it’s like becomes so scary how you would word it yeah but we’ve had this chat hey like you’re worried about giving input at the wrong time and I am as well this race was very unique so like the new technology and um the writers watching the live broadcast at the top because the last practice run was bone dry as good as the track’s probably been then it started raining you said Riders watching at the top is that a new thing uh if the if it’s a bone dry track and I could be wrong like we I never wanted to do that I didn’t want any more input like I had my race plan most Riders do they know where they’re going to go they know how far going to go what lines they’re going to go some maybe would like to know the winning time to know how much to push every ride is different yeah this run was very unique Amar speaking to Remy Tron about the lower section and Remy saying he’s going to go conservative and then he did The High Line That’s Remy Tron he’s just another beast on a bike so then this race normally do you tell people but you have to you say hey use it how you’re going to use it but eight out of the 10 women crashed so it is slick that’s a tough one and then most of them crashed in the lowest section all trying The High Line so whether you think you can do it or not like maybe just go safe and then Greg decided to go down low and bar Remy everyone went down low and most people made it if they went low kind of so you had to use that information you had to give it you had to risk getting in someone’s head so those guys were trying to take as much information in and then you decide what to use what not and then you have sort of a race plan but in those conditions it’s more feel the first turn or two or at least what I would have or some of them seem to do that minus Ronin done yeah he didn’t feel the first turn he felt the ground still got eigh yeah that’s insane yeah so that’s his strategy feel the first few turns and then you build from there and you just sort of react it’s really really cool it’s really Co of how racing could be you know it’s kind of back to Enduro just like figure it out new track haven’t practiced it I absolutely loved watching this race and I I have to admit a big part of it is because of of your fellow Countryman the goat yeah just to have him in the mix and to have him sat there from the start made it so exciting for me like dude I was I was like messaging people I want Min to be up there I don’t want to see so what is that just cuz it’s so unique and ridiculous that he’s still there I’m the same kind of you can’t be bummed everyone was so stoked dude it’s like from being into the sport for so long it’s like all all of the the main characters in my mind I want them to keep doing well I want these Young Guns to come up but I want some sort of solidarity I want there to be a Greg Minar there I want like it’ll be tough when he’s gone yeah you’ve grown up supporting racing with Brian and coming to races and Greg was always there so he’s every race I followed over your yours Brendan’s careers Greg has always been there he’s always been a fixture and then to like to me it was so exciting having him sat there in the hot seat for the whole of the top 30 I think it’s cool too obviously cuz he’s moved team and all of that you know learning more about with being here and like how much went into it I guess you felt I definitely felt a little bit of like oh a bit bummed out for him at the start of the Season he’s like not really getting the results he was after maybe a little injury at the start of this year and stuff and then boom Podium you’re like you more feel it me I’m more like for him I’m was like oh it must be a weight as well all that development all that money a bit right you probably a bit attached to it with alen I know he was in here yeah he put a lot of work and yeah you don’t he’s obviously looking for that Cinderella like story right and he almost doesn’t want to let it go and the way the season is going it’s like it’s that must be so tough cuz eventually you got to say hey you might not get the Cinderella story M you know he was probably hoping for that on syndicate it didn’t happen yeah then he builds his team a lot of work went in I mean you want Cinderella like how hard is it to stop how can you stop I know how can blame think the Cinderella ending is is it like another a last World cut win or I don’t know I can’t speak for him I think if I if I was to give him any advice I say this this could be it like anything else is a bonus you know like this is cool yeah you know now but he’d be seeing more now with this third’s going to give you confidence that was a really good ride you can talk whatever you want about conditions it’s better in some places probably for him I think he’d admit that and worse in other places for sure and him going down first yes we just spoke about Intel but you had the ladies Intel on a track that was different way different to Amar and then Greg’s getting it a bit worse than the ladies but a lot different to Amar um it was a really good ride he’s always good in those conditions like it’s just impressive yeah so what you would think now with worlds and maybe he’s feeling strong now he’s got a bit of momentum confidence like okay now the monkeys off the back we got a Podium for the team thank goodness otherwise that’s a lot of pressure lot of money went into that a lot of hype and drama in the offseason it’s like okay now that’s settled now we can go racing and he’s got two months off which I think will be good for Greg really good for Greg more recovery more prep bike time Andor is a home race but you got a lot of Frenchies why is the break so big is it Olympics is the Olympics yeah Olympics and T front Gap oh because Olympics ENT to the fronts yeah that’s what it is yeah okay so it’s Andora World them World Champs Pandora is World Canada yeah then luden V then Canada okay wow yeah oh it was so I yeah I really think how can you not like how can you not like that yeah you got a root for the dude what’s your um actually an underdog Ro Underdog Story cuz he’s yeah so ridiculous crazy to say under yeah totally how what’s the age difference with you I think 3 years three years I’m turning 40 this year and he’s I keep forgetting like I think he’s turning 44 in November is that not mine is that real I think he’s no I just said three years is he turning 43 in November I think he’s turning 44 but that’s just I don’t know why it’s that absurd I can never set a a number on it he’s 40 just say it it’s way more Pro when he says something out loud because you got to produce it like hey what did you say Jamie I mean d he’s 43 already no he’s about 43 he’s 43 so 3 years different to myself so when you when you imagine ling up now I can’t imagine it you really can’t no but like the recovery I could Mega I I didn’t feel this when I was 25 the next day okay that’s that’s Mega the body deteriorates man recovery is takes longer the mega is different though so you remember putting together a r right on the edge but can you imagine now putting putting everything onto a track like like you used to week in week out Oh you mean riskwise not physically cuz the pace is realistically gone up it’s like no I can’t that’s why we’re sitting here yeah you just literally can’t no well if you stay in it I can picture it but I don’t know stepping back it’s just so difficult to think why you would want to keep doing it but I’ve said it before if you Greg Manar and you’re used to winning and you have a bad race you get fifth then you lose a bit of form like a bad race is 10th and then you kind of get motivated you pick it up you get fifth still paying you a boatload of money I would expect you crowd surfing in Le so sick so why stop so there’s that risk but impossible it’s hard and they say that like they say no NFL player quits he’s forced out or whatever the slogan is like there’s a lot like egos involved consciously like not in a bad way but I mean must feel pretty good getting on the podium everyone’s shouting your name and totally bonuses are coming in you don’t yeah I’ve I mean I sat with him and he asked about commentary and he was you know he’s looking at other Riders like doing other Ventures and he’s like what do you think what do you think it gets paid I was like mate if you still enjoy this and you can mentally hurtled down a hill this is the easiest money you’ll make it is it is crowd surfing Le is going to be a hard one to walk away from that’s cool it’s Rockstar [ __ ] yeah that’s what I thought about it when I saw that footage as well he didn’t even win but he’s like I’m getting on this he didn’t even win but he’s like I’m getting on the crowd I eared it I’m third whatever it’s just so sick like to see fans that hype to see all of it I think Le seems to be the World Cup where it’s like oh speaking of that if you two don’t go to a race in person and it’s not Le messing up as well yeah person is special I literally didn’t have a passport I’ve just sent off for a new passport okay it’s no excuse excuse I was going to be driving I was actually going to be driving BK’s Porsche out I was what cool opportunity that would have been cool yeah it got sacked off I almost took se’s uh vaser vaser from Al to to I was so that race is so cool I considered Ving for 3 hours one way to go watch L then 3 hours back Brandon everyone thought I was mental at Mega I was like why this just quick 3 hours watch the race have you seen the race in a it’s pretty amazing You’ got arm pump on the v m I’m getting arm pumps sitting here I’m so crap that’s true my triceps are still sore from Mega oh yeah yeah no doubt still beat up it was yesterday it’s crazy to think I didn’t think you’d be back that’s why I messaged you guys I was like where are you at and then just at home okay wow we got packed schedule we’re actually off later aren’t we yeah it’s quite exciting we can go and see what a Formula One team we’ll keep we’ll keep it secret who’s driving first who’s driving the the car first I’ll probably break it in I are you happy with that cuz I was going to wait until I just want TI like a little bit warm if break little bit heat I’ll I’ll H up it for you all right good right well let’s go to an ad break should we yeah yeah it seems about right oh finally we get to my favorite ad I think it is probably my favorite cuz it’s the easiest one yeah this one’s easy dude if you’ve not got one of these and you’re a mountain biker yeah then what are you what are you dude you’re probably not cleaning your bike certainly not I didn’t clean my bike before I got one I’m also quite guilty of it to hon I didn’t even have an outside tap before I got Hydra shot that’s right we’re talking about the works Hydra shot yes I use it every single ride yep same mate I’m with you almost every single ride I’m going to say almost cuz that’s the sort of guy I am but I do try and I still keep my bikes in the house so I do have to make sure she’s clean because she comes in the house you know yeah there you go but it is so easy because you’ve got the power share system obviously that’s the battery that comes out of personally my leaf blower my impact driver my chainsaw okay my I can carry on should I car I carry on too we’re doing house renovations at the moment as you know and I’ve got a few work Tools in there so I’m been using a grinder streammer done the garden recently uh impact driver the tire flator inflator oh I need to get one of them man that’s really sick Hoover the Hoover is brilliant I all of it works One battery it does it’s dream how good is that so there’s the difference between when I first clean my bike with a Hydra shot mhm we’re on to the 56 bar version aren’t we yeah we are mate they’ve added some extra power not too much power no which is nice it’s absolutely perect this sound this sounds like just something that you say in the adver and I bear in mind this is the advert but it is absolutely the perfect amount of pressure for a bike totally don’t BL your bearings not going to BL your bearings exactly right can should I read some um information about it yeah please okay so unlike conventional pressure washers with bulky body unit Mains connection and garden hose attached to tap the new works Nitro high flow Hydro Shot so that’s the difference is the works Nitro high flow Hydra shot runs on batteries it draws water from any Source you can do it from a river in Wales when you’re after the bike park you can do it from whatever wherever y you can do it bucket bucket pools Lakes even sea water it’s ideal for cleaning around the house and patio yep or I mean we’re talking about bikes I did just Auto CU that and just read what it said but but it’s again it doesn’t have to be used for your bikes that’s the cool thing we use it around the house ands house you know and I do regularly equipped with Works built brushless motor 2.0 this high pressure washer delivers EXC excellent performance on powerful cleaning with a 220 lph flow rate that’s a lot she flowing she’s flowing design Compact and portable at only 1.5 kg you can take anywhere you need uh it’s got 5 in one nozzle actually also very useful yes sometimes you want it on the pinpoint exactly in a patio or something like that sometimes you want it a little bit wider maybe you’re watching the flower beds or something like that absolutely um this goes through all the other applications we know we can move on we know them and if you don’t know them head to uk. works.com yeah um and if you enter the code the ride companion yeah is that caps uh ask it is caps it’s all caps just the ride companion yeah just the ride companion that’s going to knock you 10% off amazing that’s just on ukw works.com let’s do 15% off can you are you that powerful yeah we’ll be you’re a podcast let’s just do it for two weeks 15% off two weeks two weeks 15% off .w works.com with the code the ride companion all capitals and it’s across the whole range except except the robot lawn mower but everything else so you could you could build out your garage a little bit man get yourself a Hydra shot get yourself a drill grinder streammer all kindes of things sometimes when I feel lost in life I actually just go on the work’s website because I can’t believe they’ve got that many products if I’m if I’m trying to if I’m struggling for jobs to do I’ll go on The Works website and it will actually lead me to the light I’ll find a job to do they’ got so many tools it’s insane tool for everything get yourself to ukw works.com with the code the ride companion for 15% off for two weeks I can’t believe Dave’s doing this but he’s doing it he’s pulling the trigger y not literally because we don’t want to get the studio wet thanks works thanks [Music] Works we’re back from the ad 15 minutes left we’re off to mlar and we’re going to drive Formula 1 cars I think I hope I think if we ask nice enough might let us a spin absolutely round woking yeah yeah now we need to get you home safe because you are now a father Round of Applause that’s pretty good You’ reproduced really cool I never ever in my life thought Andrew neing would be reproducing did you I mean when I met you those many years ago I just things things have changed do you think um we all have like preconceived ideas that stay at a certain timeline same as like bren’s always a certain yeah character you like Frozen in time yeah of when you get to know someone well it kind of is isn’t it kind of is you have that with your schoolmates like we still have the stupidest jokes literally most ofad I’m always looking at them and I’m like you can’t be that age I I whoa no anyone that’s like a friend from school or something and I I see them as like when you knew them when you were 14 15 16 whatever and then you see someone and you’re like oh you bought a house like you still looked 13 like it doesn’t in your head yeah but I just think all of my friends look super young but the reality of it is like I don’t get ided anymore in a shop or like you know actually I’m older I went to Builders Merchants the other day yeah and there were these two dudes in from my school that always used to hang out they were in years two years below me went to the builders’s merchants and in the yard it’s just guy biggest beard just looks like proper Burly Burly dude smoking a cigarette and he’s two he’s like two years younger than me and it was him and he’s hanging out with his mate and they’re doing the job together really cool and uh I just can’t fathom that they that I am yes two years old you know they’re just like proper dudes I’m older than decks yeah that’s quite scary that’s scary you old di yeah that’s not that’s scary wow I don’t feel old but on that thing it’s funny you don’t feel like your age right where do you reckon your age is frozen what what you year in my mind yeah what how old are you still just not I’m not talking about birthdays I’m talking about how old you are dude cuz I’m not 20 I’m not going to say I’m 20 as [ __ ] anymore I’m not I’m not 20 as [ __ ] anym I’m not no what are you saying 20 as [ __ ] like I’m not not as YOLO as you were when you’re 20 I’m stuck at like 25 is this how is this like how you act or how you perceive yourself yourself yeah M probably 28 to 30 maybe nice yeah I would I agree I’m not like I was when I first came to UK like 23 years old and I still rally a rental car if you give me one but like there’s a few other things I’ve moved on and I’m more responsible 25 for me 25 maybe more it’s funny I had this realization the other day 25 yeah that’s nice I was actually um I think don’t know if we talked about this if so sorry but like I was having a shame in the mirror I can’t grow a beard for [ __ ] but I’ve always in my head thought one day it’ll come and then the other day I was doing it and I was like actually game over no I’m nearly 40 it’s never coming puberty is never going like it’s never getting there and I just had that no I just had that real like that realization of like no no this is it like it’s probably starting to go gray a little bit felt like a 12 you’re at high school you’re like come on how weird come on 37 and I still can’t grow beard it’s like L what I mean is in your head you’re always like yeah one day one day it come then it it’s never coming with shoes I’m like waiting to you know I’m like I I don’t buy shoes cuz I think well I’ll grow out of them and I’m not even joking I still have that I’m like yeah I don’t need more shoes you know I like shoes though that’s funny your feet shrink maybe a little you get free shoes though luckily otherwise you literally wouldn’t have a pair don’t you I’ll send you some yeah you are quite right when we were watching um Kevin Bridges the other day that was a strange one comedian Kevin Bridges he’s a Scottish comedian and we were watching it and he looks old like he looks 50 to me and he all all of his like um points to his talk about stuff were all like at our era and we were like he can’t be our R can it and we looked was like oh yeah he’s 38 some guys don’t age well though yeah not saying I do like skin it weathered from never being in winter but SC I think what what I think is um in I notice is interesting right is that I still have this line drawn between adults and myself where there’s just I sprinkle in a bit of formality a bit of politeness when I speak to someone who I consider an adult and I think that the adult line is like it must be an a that’s a great that’s a good way to describe it because the way I looked at my dad at a certain age when he when he was around and I was a certain age dude I’m that age and like I now have a newborn Bren is always Bren to me and like he’s got two kids running around he’s a dad yeah you got to be responsible and you are like he is responsible but he’s also like floating around the world riding a bike so that’s that’s the weird thing I think I guess other people Industries have stable jobs that look like you’re responsible but then they have a stag do and they go way more wild than us or even snow days it takes literally a a peppering of snow on the British Countryside men who are 50 thinking they can backflip sled you know like it’s insane you is that what comes on your Instagram feed this is what yeah yeah that’s what I I just think we’re all I keep hold of it and when you’re younger like were saying your perception of that Agee like I remember going to my dad’s 40th and I was I can’t remember I can’t do the maths but like I was like oh my God so old and it’s like now I’m pretty close to that age and I still feel 25 yeah but I don’t know I just have this idea that he didn’t feel that he just started feeling really old like slowing down yeah he must have felt old I’m not going to you don’t feel old no be honest I don’t feel old when you ride with like people you’re aware of like like I ride with some really young people really like six 15 16 year olds and I just I think like should I act different I don’t even know as far as I’m concerned like we’re still doing the same thing and we like find the same stuff funny yeah I don’t know no you can’t relate on that you relate yeah I understand that was there an age for you when it got harder doing racing that was there an actual point yeah that’s a good question thanks uh not well like i’ probably I felt in like just the best I was riding when I was 30 like the speed wise and the potential and then 31 was second last year and that one was my brother was wrenching and we had yeah I didn’t get the Cinderella story with him like we came out the blocks firing good Pace mistakes wheel problems I still felt good at 31 yeah right and then I had this injury um broke my hand or bones my hand and then I I think cuz I was 31 dealing with my first injury it took me out of a season I took a little while to get back up to pay so that was tough I never really dealt with like lack of form and injury and like all that [ __ ] right at 32 but I didn’t feel it was an age thing I still felt I could have a good go and then with the industry and stuff that’s when I retired so I didn’t quite feel it but mentally there was definitely like thinking like one foot out the door right at that age that’s the problem little bit Yeah once you start that yeah yeah but I didn’t feel that I got aged out no no who is the second oldest do you know like who’s obviously up there good good question who’s second yeah good point don’t know who probably off the top of my head maybe Remy Terron right yeah right yeah they used to Mick used to be there but he’s on Enduro G and Sam like G yeah he was a year younger than me maybe okay yeah good question I don’t I didn’t actually feel yeah Blinky yeah Blinky there’s a few you they they’re stuck Frozen in time I’m like blink is the young guy was the young guy it’s like no no didn’t it yeah I didn’t feel like got aged out it definitely adds to it but I wasn’t I was burnt out but not aged out super burnt out remember we spoke you like oh you were around and you’re always around it was cool it was amazing what an experience but it burns you out being living bag I can imagine I mean you did so so long on the road it was 14 years same as rainy kavari all those guys they got burnt out man she got 14 years but that’s like six months plus away from home eh yeah in a year yeah that’s lit that’s a lot no it was yeah I did that indefinitely yeah I think as well like with down and stuff it’s doesn’t feel like you can get to a certain age and I might be wrong but like leave the sport and then kind of retire whereas other sports don’t really know what I’m trying to say financially yeah other sports especially again during the motor I hope yeah Greg probably could but I mean he’s done 400 years of earning decent way yeah he’s got time it seems like other sport they can they can just retire and it’s like well finish at a certain age and be like Oh I’m good now F yeah Motocross like vilipoto chatt a lot about it he was burnt out but he can he can step away cuz definitely there’s a maybe if like he had to earn a living he would have to stay in it longer dun as well more of a motivating factor and it’s like could do another year and earn another 2 million in it it’s a bit more like yeah go on I’ll do another year but when well that’s interesting for those guys to turn down yeah that’s what I mean they got enough money in the bank to turn down like a million base salary or whatever and bonuses goes both ways didn’t it really I guess like but that sport burns you I think as well that that when you speak to people that do it I think it’s like it is I know racing downhill is dangerous but like Supercross is like every straight is so dangerous and you’re next to people and I guess the equivalent is Greg racing next to Ronan you know what I mean you’re racing the the the up and comers that are like full of it well up for it they’re going to whack turns like you know unlike you prepared to die today yeah exactly yeah exactly and then you’re there just you’re you’re you know exactly what you have to put in and what you have to get out like you know you’re doing everything you watch Greg ride he’s so efficient isn’t he that’s like so many years of knowing exactly what to do you’re not whacking stuff or like yeah but that used to be the sport like professionalism efficiency race strategy that could really get you some crazy results and now you got to add that little bit of aggression um Fitness obviously GW you know everyone sort of sprinkled a little bit of their own um now you got am that’s got that that whole package what is it am’s putting in there I mean I’m intrigued cuz you You’ identified what’s in the water yeah but no but what’s he adding what is it he’s adding to a race run when you watch that race no it’s just I think it’s just all those things together okay he’s got the whole it’s just a full package right now including the bike the fitness the technique the skill the drive the he wants it dude you have to want it you have to believe and not everyone can have that self-belief I think building confidence and then he’s not Got Confidence yeah but you got to have some serious self-belief to you know like believe you can think can win a race you can have the talent to win a race but you’ve got like deep down believer at the top you know I think it’s so interesting when you look at like him and then Jackson how crazy like the two body would been nice to see interested next year’s going to be cool you know it would be nice to see Jackson cuz maybe we were thinking Jackson was going to maybe have some races where there was time into the field yeah hope makes it back for one this this year I don’t think so those knee injuries take so long such a bummer but he’s so young like maybe it’s just going to be fuel I don’t think it’ll slow him down when you have injury that young eh yeah chilling hey we used to have a section on this um podcast called watching and listening and I’m just going to drop a watching because it’s kind of along the same thing that we’re talking about but it’s called Sprint and it’s on Netflix and it’s about 100 meter sprinters oh wow and it’s obviously if you think how like nuanced and how many variables there are even within down it’s like a ridiculous sport to psychoanalyze with Sprint you’ve got 100 Meers of track and you’ve got 10 people doing it it’s so cool watching you would love it this series I watch it it follows it follows all of these athletes and it’s just like cuz really what you’re measuring is like personality type we’re all aware that they’re lining up they’re the quickest in the world so now you’re just putting personality against personality like who can deal with pressure who can deal with those oh mate it is it’s really really cool I I I think it says a lot as well if you like take sport right back to its Bare Bones You could argue that Sprint or right maybe fighting is sort of the purest form of sport maybe racing yeah exactly but you can really kind of build up what what success looks like can’t you you can see what at attitude people have in sport that is successful I feel like and if you look at the World Cup field I wonder if there’s like you can draw parallels maybe I just thinking of it like comparing the Sprint stuff are we bu am I biased to thinking how insane downal is like if you explained it and got people to understand it more like think what Amar did he’d never even seen the track in those conditions think about how much stuff has to go right to do that time he’s done all the soul you know like no one else could write it that fast but I’m just got got you’ve got to be fit you got to be a to ride a a Don bike down the craziest [ __ ] then you’ve got to you know like prepare your run then you got to be at the top and you’ve got one chance to do it you know there’s a lot less to focus on 100 met Sprint like I’m not taking the away from them no you’ve done your training your body hopefully rocks up on the day and you’ve got to get the start good so there’s less things to focus on you got your Technique and they practice the start a lot less VAR you do so many reps on that start like dude imagine walk to the start Hut and out of the corner of your eye you see someone slipping and falling over like it’s pretty high likelihood like the butterfly effect of like a race run like what could go wrong yeah like you should ask the guys in the comments like is there a more unique sport we’re missing like I hope there is it just seems like it’s a pretty fiercely complicated complex sport Motocross is up there as well like the sure physicalities but like you can make mistakes in motocross race and still like piss on the field yeah to recover with this it’s just one yeah go sigue can happen now and later on in part after McLaren if it if it needs to happen have you heard of enhanced games yes let’s talk should we talk about enhanced games after McLaren sure that’s a solid start I was going to mention it as well great I think I know I’m doing should we go check out McLaren F1 facility let’s go and drive an F1 car come back tell you about I got a gift for you have you actually yeah and I got a gift for you ready yeah we got new merch mate live on the site right now quick unboxing this where do we start mate this is a dream come true for someone like me look could say it’s collectible like it amazing let’s go let’s get into the [Music] episode hey before we actually talk about it I what I thought to get us warmed up it is the next morning now to get us warmed up I thought we should probably just go through listener questions oh cool great idea it’s a good idea because it gets us in the flow of things do you ever feel that way yeah get back in the flow get back in the vibe I appreciate it’s morning now we’re all a bit tired after after going around the McLaren F1 Factory you had some really good times it was it was must have been tirant yeah it was was takes a lot of concentration to drive if one gfor F I thought not going to lie there a lot of concentration to drive F1 car it’s mentally draining those drivers know what they’re doing yeah yeah absolutely so on that note let’s let’s go to Andrew neing listen to questions that’s a great idea appreciate it should we do round of applause first needle’s coming back yeah the next yeah we should just do round of applause more more often I feel like it’s just nice isn’t it yeah I like a round of applause I could do it a Round of Applause Just in life go could you every now and then in a day having a bad day sometimes a high five will change your day it’s true so if you got questions or you just make these up like yeah we make them up we asked if people we asked if people had questions for you and unfortunately no one we got load actually saw some responses I was feeling a bit awkward when you put up the listening questions that’s I hope they make some up mate what would we do if there were none I just make them up sometimes yeah we’ be like what’s your favorite color yeah Jack 69 yeah I mean you can make up any Instagram handle because some people have the wildest ones true you can respond to your own questions too so you know on there you could just then you just have a bunch it just be there yeah let’s do the first one let’s see how we go hey this is great one from jool Li I should read this one out yeah dream podcast guest advice on pushing your limits on a bike in your 40s I’m not 4 years but me Avalanche thinks I am yeah true what yeah dream podcast G that’s a brilliant question that’s a good question I guess yeah there’s a few but I just think hanging out with Rogan would be pretty in he just seems like an interesting cat it’ll be a good 3 hours it’s easy conversation isn’t it it’s got to be with him yeah I always think like how much that was just quickly off the top of my head would be Ro obvious great reviews on moving the needle too obviously do move the needle that would move the needle imagine if it didn’t you’d be like how weird done wrong what just tank 2,000 but they so many how who would you guys would your dream guest be you’re a dream guest dude this this too easy we could we could make this so This podcast pushing your limits in your 40s not there yet technically depends when this comes out it’s getting close it’ll be out before you 40 what about pushing your limits on a bike now at your age age is but a number they say like it depends what you’ve got to lose like if you’ve got a family home if you got to work then maybe it’s a bit silly to be pushing your limits but I think confidence comes from demonstrated practice is a term I’ve heard and that means like if you’re struggling with a big jump let’s go back to a small jump that you can handle do that a load of load of times and you take that feeling take that technique to a mediumsized jump and the same goes for roots rocks things like that and that’s why I think you guys are so good in England like you’ve got these short little heels so you’re just banging the same turns over and over and over and you get touch and feel take that to the Alps you don’t feel too bad so to gain confidence I think you’ve got to show yourself you can do it in a non pressured environment or a non sketchy jump or drop and you build up to it that’s how we’ve all done it you know as kids you just don’t know you’re actually doing that that’s pushing your limits I think is actually for me it’s like it can be planned you know it shouldn’t just be throw the dice and and hope things work out you’re really good at putting things in words I think I think also though I for get that you’ve literally just ridden like the dark Fest course so you’re the best person to ask this you know you’ve ridden the biggest jumps in the world people were saying like oh you’re an old fart you did that how does that happen like it doesn’t how does it happen talk us through cuz you’ve been going dark Fest for years but you not necessarily done top to bottom eh when the no not the first few I’ll be very fair I didn’t feel it was worth the risk for me until I felt I guess so comfortable and seen so many people do it and the jumps they just they’ve built them incredible and every year they just tweaked them a bit so for me yeah I probably get in my own head a bit I go what’s you know my career is not going to change if I jump dark F I want to do it for myself and then eventually got to the point that the night looked good um I was out of my comfort zone a bit but you just weigh up the wrists I guess and to me that took me a few years to decide I mentally said and maybe this is something to that guy like if you really hesitating there’s maybe a reason for that and I said to myself before I get there the first few years I’m not doing the 90 cuz I don’t want to make an emotional decision on a jump that big yeah and then there is that a new thing for you like would like younger Andrew nin just sent it and worried about it after is it more of like a proc probably then you just definitely definitely there’s a few stories we probably get to later where young me has been in the hospital in England unnecessarily so many times keep up with Brendan or him or doing not doing what they were doing but doing something I thought I could do but just yeah I just didn’t think long enough or planing it pushing it hard but what’s the different I I I pick up on you saying um you’re not doing it for your career you’re doing it for yourself so what is what does that look like doing it for your career and what does it look like doing it for yourself well I think to be honest I think someone like icad doing that flip is for himself but he that that year he did the big backflip I think he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder you know to earn his way in the sport cuz he’s an incredible Rider doing great things but not getting he didn’t have a bike sponsor at the time he probably feels hard done by but he’s like right I’ll go and prove it so that’s for your career like that can yeah he wants to push his limits but he knows damn well if he lands that it’s going viral look what’s come after it and when I was racing like yeah it’s for myself like you push your yourself but you might do things cuz you know like well this is if it goes well my career goes a bit better um so to take a risk at dark fist for me like I don’t think Scott’s phoning me and being like right you’re getting a big raise off riding darest they’re like well Brendan’s there already or some you know’s you know like we’ve got Free Riders you’re in the way move so that’s yeah just at with age comes a bit of that experience like it’s just a calculated risk so for me me it’s like yeah pushing yourself it is a big buzz like it’s unbelievable and it really is fun and to ride with those talented Riders is really cool yeah and yeah there’s ego involved and it does feel good for everyone’s like yeah dude you got through the line but personally like to get over the hump of like [ __ ] this is really scary this is gnarly I haven’t done it and every year you get problem with that place every year you get comfortable probably a little bit too comfortable like oh yeah it’s a little bit yeah probably be fine like every year you’re riding in more windy conditions when you shouldn’t and then a whole year goes by you get back there and you’re just like oh no and you kind of have to go through the phase again to get up to being comfortable quite surreal actually I hear you fully I think I don’t reckon you I think there’s something Mega cool about you riding that line that’s like yeah s for me super authentic cuz like you say there’s not really any pressure for you to do it other than coming from yourself so in that respect I think that it’s completely authentic is super cool I think that has big value for like a sponsor I think it’s Mega yeah yeah I guess so and I mean part of me realizes that that does keep me happy and Alive like riding at chilled pace is good but then it gets a bit monotonous at 100% yeah and then say I’m preparing for something I’m like okay let me like haven’t rid for a few days the weather’s bad or doing a bit of podcast and I go up and ride and then I spark what you know go a little bit quick and I’m like oh you know I get into that state a flow state or not thinking or reacting I’m like oh that’s why I really enjoyed racing downhill you know yeah it’s getting out of your own head and pushing yeah I did that for a living he like pushing the limit and like who and all that so then part of me is like [ __ ] doing dark V like energizes that again but it’s just a mental battle because I’m like it’ be good not to be on the ground a lot you know I don’t I don’t know when you’re young you don’t think about the crashes and you get older you be like that’ll be annoying crash there and you got to deal with the injury and I think it’s a big part of like the reward the reward of riding if you’ve made it to be like you’re one of the guys that tries something or does something it becomes like a thing that you if you stop doing it it does become quite like I want to scare myself if I go riding even though I’m older I’m not scaring myself in the same way I want I still want to do it you’re chasing that feeling yeah it is it is rewarding and it is exciting and it’s it’s adrenaline it’s endorphins that you get dude I’ve thought about it loads cuz I hurt myself other it’s boring and then what you going to do with yourself yeah you got to face your inner demons I guess you know so we are just distracting ourselves yeah like it must help as well that it’s how local is it to you well that’s the only reason yeah I mean that’s the biggest reason I’ve been got comfortable I wouldn’t get an invite flight for it I mean Sam stubbornly won’t give me an official invite even though I get to the line and do the most top to Bottoms because I’m just like a giddy school kid and everyone’s like waiting for good conditions and they’re going to do a crazy Superman I’m like well I’m not going to overthink this I’m just keep dropping dropping dropping I’m just punching laps like Billy Mc like how many laps you done this morning I’m like mate I’m not riding with you guys for like another year so I’m just going to get it in you know so sick so I am lucky that it’s local and I know the guys and um go out there when they’re building and stuff and and we I tested one step down and it’s not about like I tested the step down it was why why did I do it and they were like holy [ __ ] and it wasn’t to do it before Sam or Sea Dog honestly I just looked like a down or step down I like calculated like I think if this goes wrong it’s over jump and it just felt good and it was like all right I got to do this for myself like I’m going to get out my comfort zone on I like [ __ ] and then I did it and it wasn’t like H Sam I did it before you it was literally like oh that was that was a rush wow and I could figure out it was a tiny step down into the 110 like it’s not the big jump there but it needed to be done you know yeah and it’s like you doing those crazy Mexican jumps like you just you seem to have a knack for knowing the speed and you’re probably a little bit nervous but you’ve done so many you kind of like okay this should be the speed and I don’t it seems like you get you must get a bit of a jazz out of it oh yeah B it’s like a it’s like a problem to solve a personal thing like yeah I really like that kind of riding I’d do much more of that if I had the opportunity like if you just had new stuff to test all the time I find it Mega exhilarating you like the testing part yeah I mean I’m sure anyone who tests likes and hates at the same time but like I like it cuz you got to work it out which I think is really cool it reminds me of like climbing like a climbing problem yeah you’ve got sort of science no totally everyone asks how do you figure it out and there’s so much bro science and gut feel and you got to trust it but you got to go no that’s not real like this is the speed that’s probably what will go wrong but largely you land about that far from where you think you’re going to land like it happens really regularly that you go exactly like you go through it so many times in your head that it goes exactly as it until it doesn’t yeah and you do get it wrong as well yeah but I’m always amazed though quite often it does go exactly how you think like I I want to go a bit short on something that has a dangerous run out or I want to go long on something keep the nose up but I mean that subconscious like um I think that’s a subconscious thing and conscious actually and also you literally kind of um visualizing it it’s like in life you do anything you visualize something going bad you bring that into yeah the Forefront you visualize it going good often it goes mad those Moto dudes Hing stuff first time and they’ll just be talking about gears yeah you know like red what’s that big one with Tyler that imagination yeah because like the yeah the room for era there gets a bit greater if you’re like two miles off yeah and you watch them talk about it and they’re like yeah I think like third like but eventually it makes sense yeah it sounds crazy but it’s like they you need this subconscious talent to take over like they need to block off the thought process and just it’s a subconscious like okay it’s the brain’s like I need a little bit more Riv at the top Ian that’s what’s happening if you think about it okay it’s third gear it’s three quarters it’s like ah you could really sound’s helpful isn’t [Music] it it’s oh really impressive you think about stuff really isn’t it espe like when you go and see a jump that big as well you can’t even disgusting comprehend in your mind like how the hell would you get like but dark face looked like that the first No Doubt 110t or a 90t jump 0 so the 90 was called the 90 and it was like broke the internet r m then those decades decided to build a 110 and it’s next to the 90 and then you look from the top HT then you go oh the oh you just jumping the small one what the N yeah the small one cuz there’s this big one here that’s your ape brain is just like now it’s smaller it’s it is honestly looked smaller because it is a little bit more forward to the same Landing option it is the safer and it is the smaller one but it ain’t a small jump no but it is the smaller one so you’re doing the small one at dark P it’s 90 because those guys are doing the 110 if you put a smaller lip next to the 90 would it make the 90 scarier if you put if you put in a 60 yeah then then when you hit the 90 You’ be like who it’s the 90 again no the 0 dude the other thing is the 90 is like that every time yeah even if you’ve I’ve done it 20 times well for me I don’t know what those I just am a little bit you drop in and those Moon booters as well like every time you drop in like sometimes like am I just going to fly off my bike yeah cuz it’s like quite absurd the speed in the lip and then you like land you’re like okay that was a really unnecessary thought like I’m fine and it’s the 15th time I’ve done it today but you jump in with a little bit of nerves for me at least each time not a set of trails once you gone to the trails is like okay it’s just the trails right until you tag when you’re like okay I’ve messed up the other day and I was like I don’t know how to do this like I’ve done them recently but I haven’t done one on a h and I was like I honestly don’t think I know how to do this I’m going to have to like fool myself into trying and then working it out when I’m up there so then so then I’m like going through the trails I’m like on the jump before like right [ __ ] it let’s actually do it on this jump and obviously it goes fine when you’re there but honestly but your brain didn’t think it what cuz you going at the top I’m just like well I don’t know how to do them anymore cuz it’s been well you haven’t done it hav demonstrated You’ done yeah back flip on a muscle memory is still there though just flips it around it’s such a bizarre thing like to have yeah to have doubt l in the moment but then it does it it must imagine like doing a slope style what’s going on as you’re going down the course in your head like that must be so gnarly just they can good computers yeah don’t yeah that’s yeah D’s good though it makes you kind of concentrate you know yeah if you complacent that’s when the crashes happened I.E some of these older ones I’ve had that was just being cocky and its complacency you know yeah it’s true not thinking through the speed not thinking through the pop or anything you know doubt makes you I think concentrate so the actual question was any advice on pushing your limits on a bike in your 40s I think we’ve probably gone for a while without getting to that is there any advice no we did we said like I think building up to it if you’re saying 40s he might be a bit doubtful that he should be pushing or he’s a little bit nervous or he’s lost confidence I think Go Back to Basics yeah and go back to basics everyone loses confidence don’t worry about it top boys as well and every we’ve just said the top guys you doubted doing a back flip you’ve done a million I doubt all sorts of stuff still so yeah if you’re worried about a section someone else is as well even at the pro level yeah those guys doubt that they’re going to get through a section clean or that they’re fast enough like it’s normal all those things in his head like everyone’s going through yeah great advice hopefully that’s this a great second question too uh Brian curse what will it take to get a downhill event in Cape Town and or a slop style event like crank Works money money I’ve been asked before there’s um an awesome guy doing a hell a lot of good work at Paul Trails where um I was really lucky enough to consult and help build the like a signature track that I did a project on that hasn’t come out yet and the land owners and people part of that company have a goal to get World Cups back there wow but it takes a lot of planning it takes a lot of passion takes a lot of money so I don’t know the ins and outs but it can happen we have the facilities we can build the tracks we can that track can work um it’s long enough it’s got elevation that’s on the downhill XE can definitely work and then it just takes passion and a lot of money we just don’t have we don’t have the tourism boards like in insbrook has these private companies and then they work with tourism and that’s how these budgets work yeah but I don’t know the ins and outs of the numbers but it could be like I feel like it could be 20 to 30 grand just to put the bid in yeah pound that’s just to put the bid in to have the opportunity to sort of invite them to see if you can host it and like get all the documents in place and then that’s not the cost to run the event M and then you’ve probably getting pushed costs like broadcast you got like arrange that you got to like pay for a lot of stuff and then you’re hoping to get Revenue I think from sponsors gate tickets look I could be a little off with that but I know Marburg where Greg’s from when they had those it’s a big organizing committee big fundraising there they had a bit of Tourism helping on local governments and then you got to try break even and you got to pay staff hope for volunteers and all that we’ve had we’ve had a few and they’ve been great successes full breakdown interesting yeah the accounts of it you mean yeah what how and what I guess it’s obvious everyone’s always saying the same thing it’s like and we spoke about in the car yesterday you know we’re halfway through a downhill season we’ve now got a seven week break Riders probably do want more races but when you actually look into okay it’s not as easy as just oh just put a World Cup there like there’s so much goes into making that happen but yes it is from a spectator standpoint it’s kind of [ __ ] [ __ ] that it’s like well there’s not enough there’s not enough races and they’re all and obviously for a racer and whatever they’re all in Europe pretty much apart from yeah I mean there’s rumors there’s going to be more next year I think we’ve got to be thankful to all race organizers whether they’re seven World Cups or six like they’ve been getting a lot of like [ __ ] from people yeah but it’s not like they’re trying to do a bad job like these are people very successful that ran other series before built those things up so I think we first got to be thankful and then like really look at all sides yeah and unfortunately you got to follow the money and it is expensive and it takes a lot of work and passion to put these events on so to answer this question like I think it’s doable and there’s rumors and people that seem to be re-energized that that could get it over the line and it would work Cinderella Story South Africa World Cup Greg Min win at 50 oh imagine at 50 well in three years time at 46 Cinderella story that would be good would that’s some M drop sh I would put it yeah that is some mic drop where geographically do you think works that should have a welcome yeah down Western Cape where I’m my region where I’m from is yeah okay Cape Town like it’s just beautiful there and the tracks are really good look where Greg is is great as well but I think to put South Africa on the map I mean that is the Tourist capital is Cape Town yeah you and some other areas like but it really is nice in this region that where we put that downal track I think has has the area and infrastructure to probably do it as well what’s the craziest place you’ve raced in your career craziest did you do Japan no no before my time just before um craziest was Brazil was really fun exotic uh I’ve been on a a trip in Iran so that was like that’s crazy to think a World Cup no no that’s not R that’s what I mean a World Cup race yeah cuz Japan was on the circuit it’s not I mean it should have a race but like it’s crazy to think when you look at our how European like the current calendar is UN crazy Japan it’s too European used to be yeah yeah it’s so Europe but you need to go southern hemisphere you sort of need to started March April new do like South Africa Australia New Zealand um and then midseason you can find somewhere else with better weather and then Europe makes sense um sou America Industries in America the the fans are awesome Us open race like that’s that American Donal series com back the Monster Series really cool Play Harper that’s running that yeah American he was previously involved in US Open that I used to go to did you used to race norbas yes I started with norbas in America norbas were big prize money weren’t they back in the day not big prize money but the industry supported it was as almost as big as a world cut py would go Gracia obviously all the Aussies and like a a nor Podium would be basically the some the same guys and then obviously a little bit less depth so yeah it was a big American Donal series back then it was on TV that you know before me that Chevy truck sponsoring it was big really big and then it kind of just blew up and and s more but it should be bigger in America I’ve got a good question it’s from odub 23 what do you think of the semis never heard of in haven’t we chatted oh I haven’t been on the podcast to chat about I think I’d love to hear your your summary of your what you think the semis has added or taken away from down and I’m not being rude I’m just looking for a question so I I I understand trying new things um I understand that maybe the current status quow wasn’t the best like I can totally understand that I can see from my side I can see why they did it yeah it looks to me that they want less people in the finals for broadcast whether you agree or you don’t agree um I do think broadcast needs to be a tight package less Riders and and build Stories the challenge that we saw with the semis I don’t think you got the correct 30 in the final meaning so like Le prime example Dylan Maples qualified fourth um he clearly was fast on the track he’s earned his way then now you go and do the semis again he could either crash flat you know crashed you could say it’s his fault but now he’s got to prove himself twice or he could get a flat and he doesn’t get to race the finals so I pitched this to Bernard last year April I think um and I thought if you if the organizers need to be 30 in the final if broadcast is making those decisions then I think there’s a fairer way to get there and I called it the lcq borrowed from Motocross and um he he loved that I’ve pictures to quite a few team managers how would it work and what it will be is um qualifying the first 30 go straight to the final so Dylan Maples for example he was on common mck off like he would have gone straight through so he’s in the finals then you take the next 30 to 60 that didn’t make it like normally you know 60 would make it to the final so there’s 30 to 60 from the qual they go up again and they have another race run and say the top 10 15 like you can obviously adapt the numbers they have a second chance to get to race themselves into the final then you have the final and I honestly I’d like to chat to them and sit in the room but I liked when you came to air with a pre-show and a hot seat run and kind of set the tone you know now we went in luckily Greg had a really good run and he sat in hoty but often the 30th Rider is not going to feature so maybe you do 25 Riders on the broadcast and there’s 15 20 that are at the final because on the day sometimes you want to see like if Aaron G Gwyn comes back from injury is he going to be top 30 Pace I don’t know hope so but if not I don’t see him on the final if I drove to the vend I want to watch Aon and Gwyn coming back from injury Greg Manar only just snuck into the final I personally am hoping for more people in the final but your question was the semis I think they tried something I think the Riders don’t enjoy it I’ve seen the fans don’t seem to enjoy it because the what’s the story there you’re sort of having to risk it twice and you’re losing people that should be in the final that is just what has happened yeah um and I like the lcq because I think it’s a fairer way to have less people in the final or the fairest way to get the correct fast 30 on that track in the final or 40 I think there should be at least 40 in the final maybe 50 see I like because we’re losing we’re losing Riders Ben Beno kulan just prime example like battle to qualify for a while finds his feet you know sponsor still backed him a bit now sponsor is going to back you if you’re not in the final eventually like dude you’re not making the final that’s where the TV is like yeah you’re a semi-final Rider but you’re not a final Rider like that’s a challenge so I really think that’s one way to be fair I’m not saying it’s the golden best solution but I really back the solution I’m passionate because I think we’re going to lose Riders yeah in the industry yeah and in their defense like again I I’d love to just work with them and have the conversation I don’t [ __ ] talk on they got a very difficult job they have a point there too many people at the event there’s too many people starting the event m do we need 200 people trying to qualify for a World Cup maybe not there should be a feeda series you know like EXs cups or the norba series like and what would you qualify through that yeah in my mind but you have to I think you have to I think you have to build that up first have a point structure way if you’re going to start cutting people like you have to tell them okay in 2 3 years it’s going to be harder to be here you’re going to race these and like imagine a race two weeks before L you can earn a spot okay cool there’s 100 cars like there’s there’s all sorts of ways to do it um it’s a longwinded way to say I think they tried it like I understand why like it didn’t seem a negative to try it but the Riders like I haven’t heard any of them really stoked on it and they to me like they’re your asset I think you need to keep the Riders really happy and the teams happy and then there’s an ecosystem and fans cuz that’s ultimately what’s going to and that’s what I was going to say remember be grateful like these people are on event and they’re putting Heart and souls and pumping a lot of money and discoveries pumping money in here to try to grow this for the long term I think everyone should work together yeah I feel like you talk from a Rider’s perspective but like even from a fan perspective I was really excited about more racing and then it’s become apparent it’s like quite hard to follow and I remember back to back what was it on the live broadcast was like racing had gone on before we went live kind of thing yeah and there was something fun about tuning in and finding out who was going to be in the hot seat like that it you weren’t seeing that as a negative the old version the old version I wasn’t seeing as a negative no I because that is um when I take the ride a previous ride had off and I try to go to broadcast and I’ve been in commentary it is a tough sell sometimes he discoveries like what do you mean 20 Riders have gone down are we not going to show them what if one of those guys wins yeah but the Catch 22 is when they come with 30 rid is they show Greg’s full run because they’ve got the time then they go to one minute intervals because of the package and then you don’t see the full run anyway so if someone qualified 28th you live don’t see his full run they can pre-record so I’m thinking like you say if you’re coming on air show me the full Hot Seat run yeah at least if that guy wins a race you got his run yeah if there’s another guy that’s second and you you don’t really have his run like thank God you got the winning run but most likely if you’ve done qual and you’ve done a rerank on times you can rerank the guys for the final that you should have a really good running order I think you should rerank like say someone goes for the lcq and he gets first in the lcq and he’s times seventh best for the day on the similar conditions then put him seventh off cuz you want to build the crescendo to the end yeah definitely um I think it’s a great idea like we CH mean it was last year with Bernard loved it told Jackson about it he really enjoyed it I’ve sent it to few team managers and and I was open like I’m not trying to make changes for the sake of it because I think this is a good idea I think it’s a fairer safer way to do it for the sport yeah and I’m hearing there might be changes maybe they’re similar maybe they heard it maybe they didn’t I don’t it doesn’t bother me yeah but protect the sport protect the sport I think there there seems to be that Riders don’t have much of a voice when it comes to this that’s what I from my side it certainly seems that way dve I think you’re right so someone stepping up who can have these conversations you know I know Bernard spoke about it before about the Riders Union and this and that but nothing seems to materialize so it’s going to take someone stepping up and being like no we need to make this happen whether it’s a a rider that’s currently racing or someone like yourself that’s like doing something different with the sport now but someone’s got to have a voice that’s got to yeah and like got to present these ideas yeah I like to play Devil’s Advocate because like if you’re just a rider currently you have no idea to look like from broadcast or the money side like I’m like hey you’ve always got to also follow the money like these guys have constraints so I’d love to sit in the room and go what are the constraints yeah and then what are your goals okay you guys clearly want the sport to flourish you’re super smart like but maybe there’s a blind spot is there a way to compromise then the Riders are a little bit more happy you guys are still getting what you want and and we all win you know like F1 everyone wins from the TV package having the rider stoked is the optimal thing because without them stoked and wanting to be there what do you have yeah I guess I guess I probably have a bit of bias don’t I being a former Rider like okay we don’t want to lose people in the sport like I’m trying to protect the Riders but maybe that is fair to protect the Riders cuz totally they are the asset that’s they risk yeah totally man it’s so interesting because like if you look at Hardline it feels like with that the you get the vibe definitely from all of the content that comes out around it from Vlogs and stuff that the athletes are excited and it’s like I don’t know there just more of a I want that Vibe at a World Cup but it’s like how does that happen I don’t know maybe it is there within the thing but you don’t seem to see it the same yeah I think certain videos do a good job it’s very tough to compare the sport to other sports and it they like to or people often try compared to F1 no we just went to an one it’s a bit different but why but if we break down why you’ve got 10 manufacturers or 11 or whatever on the to 10 say with two drivers because of how damn expensive it is so they are only 20 drivers and the winner comes from there if there were 50 drivers on the grid it’d be a more exciting race maybe they wouldn’t be for stepp and always winning or you wouldn’t know who’s getting fifth or seventh that’s Daniel you have way more manufacturers Factory teams plus you got third party teams hosting riders that have made names for themselves they Brook McDonald he’s got a big fan base so that’s good for the sport so how many riders are legit enough to be at a World Cup that could earn their right to race the final maybe 60 now in the modern day we need to decrease a bit but how do we decrease the number and not lose people you know so it just seems like it’s to compare it to that yes the winner doesn’t come from outside the top 30 you could go look at the stats yeah yeah but on each track it’s a different top 30 and like it’s there’s how many guys can win a race now 10 years ago you’re like out of these five they going to win this race and out of these 12 people this is the podium probably good luck now betting money on like which is the podium it’s really cool yeah you got a stack on the podium Remy T On’s weather conditions but you know it’s just it’s the depth is really there I think like you said what’s interesting too is like you’ve got athletes riders coming through which you obviously want to create some sort of feeder series and all that sort of stuff but there’s also Riders going the opposite way almost and I think hope this doesn’t sound harsh but like Brooke’s a great example it is a br really on the live broadcast because unfortunately hasn’t really been making finals but it’s Brooke McDonald like yeah he deserves more than just oh sorry mate like yeah other other sports have um cards that they give out surfing does it golf like I think I think I’d rather compare it to that and and you and build a model where you have cards you earn your UCI World Cup card and there’s injury Clauses and these things like you can model it off some pretty successful Sports yeah and then from there someone like Brooke can say oh but he’s not quite on form why is he here it’s like but he’s earned his way yeah totally Greg man why do we see him in the final he seems off pace so he’s got an injury but you want to see him Ollie wants to see him I want to see him we almost didn’t see that yeah cuz he was 30th it’s like damn so there’s rules and there’s you can’t win them all but maybe Greg would have had a lifetime exemption by now the most winningest Rider Tiger Woods literally can play any tournament he literally pitches up misses a cut I’m watching for five hours what’s Ty going to do and that’s kind of what Greg has earned that would be cool gwy as well okay so coming back five time overall World Cup winner are you telling me we he has to qualify to get into the final just put him in the final let’s see how he does give him some reps to get better by the end of the season yeah I don’t know yeah I’m just riing you know like I was going to say though like with I got UT most respect for the organizers like I might have come out the gates people maybe think I was a bit harsh or opinionated like I just want everyone to know I’m just there to be Devil’s Advocate to try dropping the SP yeah conversation yeah that’s what you have your platform for as well right fair enough but also it’s like with Supercross you see these Riders sort of like transition out of maybe it’s always difficult drawing a total parallel to Supercross but Riders transition out of being AMA Supercross riders to go ride these different events around the world but unfortunately with d we don’t really have that yeah you got your hard line but you need an invite or like you know I thinking of like Dean Wilson still a massive draw and he just goes and races a race in Brazil like yeah go some extra money people want to see it there’s content coming out yeah maybe that’s where crankworks can really build something and Hardline as well or another r or Pro dinal Series yeah exactly just somewhere where these Riders can go and still yeah what does the feeder series look like ideally what would you think the feeder series would look like ideally well like from scratch or if we just piig on to one well I think maybe maybe it’s fairer just of the top M maybe it’s fairer to have multiple um but you you got to you’ve really got to relook at like the world ranking points or something or just offer offer some births from the pro downal series people that aren’t in the World Cup Series the next few get it cuz like if you say the top 10 get it and then all the top 10 is like grin Luca Shaw Dak like okay well that’s really hard to get to World Cup well they have slots so we next the next five that aren’t there they they can earn their way in thens is a really successful down series um presented by EX but it’s basically the European Series so there’s a way there to earn yourself in um so that that would be really cool to do that um I mean in other sports I follow like lower leagues like basketball for instance not lower leagues but like I follow the the alternative League because it’s exciting in a different way isn’t it you know it’s like well or college basketball for instance you know you know you’re watching a different level to what you’re usually watching in the NBA or whatever like how could you do that in downhill yeah problem is it’s so hard to film and present something yeah it just costs so much doesn’t it well yeah just back you sp One camera massive Hill it’s so hard no it’s very difficult so difficult but um you know these feeder series and and and being clear about the pathway to the World Cups if they’re going to limit the numbers and the entries and and stuff like that yeah look it’s not an easy puzzle to solve um but it’s chicken for the egg and maybe it maybe it’s not which one first maybe it is hey guys can we just fix the feeder series before we start sort of dismantling pushing the numbers up like I’m not in the room so I don’t know what their goals are and stuff but it’s just like from the outside seems for broadcast they’ve got 30 in their head 10 for the women I think they can see that they need more than 10 in the women which means they probably need more than 30 M you know there’s 200 men starting down to 30 180 doesn’t seem and then 10 for the woman is being a challenge cuz of the Junior’s coming up old Riders from injury coming back and um yeah yeah that’s super tough yeah not an easy puzzle to solve no it isn’t is it I I always think about like trying to but I think the story dude if the lq like I don’t know maybe I’m bias we can hear in the comments but imagine L bruny’s had a crash you could even take away protect I’m not saying you should but there some writers have said we want a world with no protection like this isn’t fair cuz if you gift it to the final yeah you’ve earned it from last year you got such an advantage man like I you know so anyway so then L Bo’s had a crash Greg’s had a flat Bernard Kerr’s flown off the course but he’s fine [ __ ] they haven’t made the main yet they haven’t made the final yet they got to go up a gate man I’m tuning in love that there’s 10 spots many dudes I know plus the other wild card Juniors that are flying or Wild Card youngsters like are they going to how hard are they going to go to try to get in the final because now it’s like sick don’t top 30 you just got to get 10th yeah sick I’m with you dude I watch more I will watch more like to me that’s a product which I’m like but your goal is a product I’m just offering you another product yeah make the lcq it’s good and you televis it yeah night before yeah evening and oh you’re getting another run on the track that’s an advantage like dude if you’re a racer you don’t want that run you just want to like rest walk the track done your work and you’ve earned that cuz you made it through the first round yeah yeah that’s a long-winded way of semi sorry guys the Super Cross package does kind of work from a fan perspective you know the lcq is super because you want to see it you want to see who makes the main and they don’t get much rest biting between that and and there’s only like two that go through so it’s always like who’s in third who’s in fourth now it’s like the hot seat will be w i mean imagine the hot seat’s not a hot seat it’s who’s in the bubble the 10th Place someone kicks him out damn I’m not in the final it’s good it’s great I’d I’d watch more I’d watch more so how ironic is that when when we were off semis we were off watch it we were offered see well when you were when you could see it how ironic we were offered more racing as fans and we were core fans and we we didn’t watch it yeah that should say something yeah I did start watching it some people loved it and some people complained about more racing I mean that’s quite a 2024 problem true well if you don’t like it don’t watch it like that’s not a reason to cut it yeah just cuz people are like I’m not going to watch it I’m going to watch the well whatever it’s like qualifying okay we can’t always compare to F1 because they then people people take all the rules from F1 but people that are core fans watch everything right the Simplicity is what works in down simple yeah you can explain that you can understand that so if you just add more people but like it’s not the end of the world is it like yeah you just tune in and then when you’re on site there’s there’s a few more people on practice like 30 is quite when you watch morning practice there’s not many people there you know yeah true oh yeah I like the and my big question is is wi coming back I think he’s on the start list for crank works oh really so that’s a warm-up race which is good yeah but I think it’s fair to ask what is his form going to be like and what does that mean if he comes back before the end of the season so then it takes him longer to get back if he doesn’t make the final then he gets one less race run and like when you’re racing three races you’re just subconscious buling speed yeah you miss a race or two it’s like being at home if you miss the finals day like the pace just goes up yeah you heard it here first good fantasy tip off Andrew nein for the for the down what is uh Aaron gwy that’s a great fantasy pick for your team for the race companion oh yeah for D good point crank Works who oh for crank works yeah yeah exciting yeah but he’ll be expens is he cheap though cuz he’s injured who knows okay we’ll go look you better adjust the price otherwise yeah we should plug that that thing’s awesome you guys are done a great job appre apprciate it man thank you so we got a a question from explosive Club I don’t know if this is have you ever felt that divine intervention has saved you from a biking accident I I think it’s a great question because I actually feel so what greater Powers help me from getting in but you just think how that was million per yeah go on let’s hear one well the one I posted from Bol did you see me flying over the Rocks no talk us through it put it here producer oh my God C there’s um well anyway it’s I I put it up vital has the clip and I’m just going through a rock section and it drops oh no well the crash is like from 2010 okay going through a rock section fine and then I just clip something and went flying over the bars onto the road and I got another one from Les du Alp where I overp the tabletop and then just landed and then crashed into the face of another jump didn’t get hurt that’s a you know yeah I mean you have to thank your lucky stars like I don’t know what that is and then you have those small tip overs and you break a finger yeah but those crash crashes were they like in on world cut race weekend when were you most likely to crash practice practice so you’re just you’re you’re like just testing what the edge is yeah cuz I always think of you as is a very calculated Rider like when I follow you and stuff I always just think well he’s he’s really within like when I go at my full Pace I’m you know I’m going at my I’m going as fast as I can whereas when you go quick it’s like following like it’s all really easy and nice yeah I think every writer is different I was probably fairly more calculated or conservative could be a word you know I but even the top guys like you you Norm some writers would write some sections Foster in a race but normally you should have and would have and would wanted to have ridden everything at your 100% race Bas in sections and you piece those sections together um as a plan and then off you go you know and that’s why L probably in the mud and these sketchy conditions is conservative with the overall but maybe it doesn’t suit his methodical way of riding when it’s dry he knows the pace he knows where he’s risking or he goes okay that section I am not going to break it’s a risky but I could run wide or I’m willing to have a crash there here I’m not I mean speaking for him but he could Greg man went through I he’s really minimally crashed in race runs and it’s kind of lately that he’s been doing it cu the pace has gone up but back in the day it was Eerie so the you know his plan how methodical he was how he deals with pressure doesn’t ride tight he didn’t crash a lot yeah and the top guys don’t like Troy broen and all those like that to me is calculated risk Troy is unreal isn’t he so conservative I mean not conservative consistent consistent yeah but it it almost comes across as riding within like you just wonder what it would be like if there was the millions what see Troy Bren like yeah I don’t know man I don’t think it’ll look a lot different L says it looks calm but it’s not calm inside so he’s pushing just his writing style as well I’ve heard I’ve heard that as well yeah yeah it’s interesting when you watch someone like like it just looks so effortless versus like Ronan or actually Amry Amry is pretty wild isn’t yeah he’s Wilding off it a bit more his old style it seems Seems everything’s a bit more in check even though he’s going like the clappers it’s such a cool sport is a cool sport we were saying it earlier right cool SP if it just gets out there to the main streets I’ve got a more I’ve got more of a respect for formula one this morning I think after going there yesterday we got a touch on it real quick haven’t we so I guess for all of our listeners and viewers we had the opportunity to go look around the McLaren Formula 1 facility yesterday which was a random invite but it turned out to be really quite something that’s unbelievable I’d say it’s definitely one word for it especially the stuff we’re not allowed to talk about yeah I mean it was honestly can’t believe you’re racing it oh a backup driver it was actually like being in a bond villains Hideout exactly what it was yeah it really was like the production facility yeah you’re in like quiet hallways nothing on the walls air conditioned not a speck of dirt you go around a corner and it was literally like a football pitch of super cars hyper cars being put together wasn’t it yeah that’s ridiculous and what about that sticky pad that we walk through to not take those little touches take dust off our shoes into the engineering room yeah little to say we we weren’t in the engineering room he rolled on it I needed to roll in it to be safe you had your show have me anywhere near that gearbox man definitely a big shout out to Simon and Chris who gave that’s amazing yeah huge shout out because they they um follow the podcast yeah bikers yeah it’s just really it felt like a real you know authentic tour it wasn’t it wasn’t like a marketing tour like we said in the car like it wasn’t like oh we’re just going to show you these bits because these are the bits that you know we need to show or want to show you it was a proper come and see the exact facility that we work in we got work didn’t we and they gave us so much of their time it’s amazing thanks yeah huge shout out to them it was badass man really enjoyed it definitely a new respect for Formula One again I remember when we went to Red Bull though I came away from that and I was just like right this deserves my attention like oh my God like I need to watch the races I need to understand it I didn’t but yeah the sheer amount of commitment and passion it’s not just the money I mean that’s absurd we don’t even know how to start comprehending that but just it was very interesting hearing because they’re both obviously bike fans and carbon like experts true it was really interesting talking to them about bikes wasn’t it because they’ve had um previous experience like working on Cross projects and made cavendish’s bike 20% lighter and stuff just in the layup and it makes you think about what is possible we’re moving towards these race bikes being for race only specific aren’t we definitely and if any brands are will happily share the contact for the right price true some off the books consultancy but it’s true I mean it it it can go that way if you’re willing to throw money at the problem me you wonder like if they if they attacked downhill like if McLaren had a go at downhill what the hell would they produce there was no but like yeah I think I think we’re just at that marginal gains now though you know cuz you can really go pretty well on that’s the different so you can go incredibly well on a production bike true you can buy everything off the shelf yeah you can do well has it is just a recent thing or is it just that I’m noticing it more recently like these bikes that aren’t available to the public so we’ve got loic Bernard well a specialized pre pre-production would happen prototyping and pre-production you’d race it early the brands will do that and then they’ll come to production specialized might never bring that to production that’s somewhat newer right not everyone has done that yeah too I guess that’s something that’s totally yeah they’re starting to do that but that they’ll probably develop it and then it goes into production but as far as just having a race only that’s interesting because they race Sunday sell Mondays somewhat of some marketing strategies but yeah but Bernie’s pivot is going to be an actual bike and it’s not going to be lugged and carbon it’s pre-production it’s pre-production so it’s like what we’re seeing yeah they’re just prototypes aren’t they some Brands might if they see the success of other brands might just build a production Donal bike does that then not sell because the guys are on some alien looking crazy thing like what but I think that technology then filters into can filter into a production one you can use it as marketing I think I I don’t a different model it’s a different model F1 you’re going to can’t buy F1 car I mean you can if you have all the money could we heard you can you can can own no Stak in one you could buy and then that company makes can I make an F1 car road legal what’s that company yeah lanti yeah can that’s wild that it’s not F1 cars I mean I’m sure they but they should race cars isn’t there registration plate on why not put a couple of headlights on done self Tapper self isn’t that business slogan race car to production oh come on then he has form one car’s aggressive though isn’t it imagine that imagine that coming past you on the A3 snow day just going off to work darling they’re actually so fragile yeah yeah I mean not the safety part where the driver is but the rest is literally paper so he was talking about that side pod we found so when we were when we were there we got to like pick up damaged F1 side pods and floors and the side pod had this is this is um two layers of carbon thick so it looks like the body of the car when you look at the car visually it’s like a big bit of real estate and it it had a hole in it didn’t didn’t it and when you pick it up he’s like this hole it could just rip off the car like this is it’s so light it’s not structural and the air that’s going in at 10 whatever miles an hour 200 miles hour like it’s mad to think isn’t it here’s a question what do you think back to what we were saying about about Formula 1 technology and downhill bikes what would be the areas for benefits that you could seek out in a in a bike these days I think what some brands are doing just of the top M I think being able to manage a suspension and the linkage platform because I always found it was a compromise so you want a big hit bike or a valdero bike but then it wasn’t going to carry speed or pedal well so maybe being able to adjust the linkage system and the leverage ratio and things like that on the Fly um and I don’t know if Amry bike has an adjust bike right that he’s got a lock out but yeah so dude but then someone said are we going to go too far that someone on the side of the track could have the controls and then L wouldn’t have to think or do it someone could be like okay you’re on the motorway stiff okay with a laptop like then we like AI you know then we gone too far is it going to take the corers out of the racing so think far could It Go but yeah I mean I think get yeah get rid of the deraa properly this time so you don’t in the chain like so those Mechanicals are done oh and why do we still get flat tires actually yeah fix get them in f one as well yeah that’s pathetic 2024 than that’s what it is PR and cons it’s pros and cons you go put a moose in yeah I think it’s interesting that there’s no clear path like how you make a down a bik quicker is like really complicated question for a Formula 1 car you can be like you stick it to the ground and you make it as powerful as possible I’m being ridiculous here I don’t even really know what it takes to make a Formula 1 car best but I reckon I’m not that far off a yeah it’s a lot of variables in Dar isn’t there yes for tom head I think you know having really efficient suspension and maybe in the long run yeah I don’t know I just said that right now maybe there’s a way to adjust the leverage ratios to the different tracks but then that sometimes it happens so quickly you know it’s not like Leo gang where it’s this style then the motorway then the this or Fort William is rough carry speed Woods in a Motorway that’s cool but sometimes it’s just chaos the whole way down you know we haven’t seen a great deal of Arrow despite the the track average speed going up that’s interesting he cuz when I was on trick we went into the wind tunnel I tell them yesterday front cover of dirt wasn’t it yeah wow so we did some of that and would you be a like AAL with baggy kit when then did no one go oh maybe the kit no well we knew but well that’s what the speed suit is now no that time we’d sort of no but I mean you do we did all that like we pinned the Jersey we did this took the peak off on and it was actually the sort of the space and width of the helmet more than the peak obviously you did this but in the correct way the peak wasn’t that bad but it was actually sort of the what’s the word like wi the width of the helmet and actually the space it’s taking up through a made quite a big difference I’m having this uh I’m imagining like working so hard on a bike keeping it Arrow keeping it stuck to the ground and stuff and then you hit the first World Cup you’re on the last straight on the motorway you know you’ve got the fastest bike you know it’s the arrow bike and then you just do you remember Co was it kard in leemon when the Mercedes flipped oh sh you hit the jump and all of the fins and like well it wouldn’t go that way it just go this way it would go this way cuz we did it on the wheels and everything we had you know like Road deep there so we tested it all and it was just horrendous we do it for can World Champs one one so there is a limit yeah right there’s an aerodynamic limit for we had things off the back of the fort we’re testing all sorts those number boards cool that then the wheels but the wheels were like we’re not running those like I don’t care if they F like if you just hit a jump with a bit of wind it’s like but I think we’ve gone almost like you can go too light now and down you see some of the bikes are heavy again made me think like am Spike’s quite meaty I think kind of know and uh he seems to the ground pretty well in these wet conditions and Roots maybe there’s something to that he’s doing okay go not to mention his ungodly skill shouldn’t shouldn’t ignore that part do you reckon it’s like something the weight of the bike is almost like linked to how strong you are you know like a power to weight sort of thing maybe yeah hey he looks Jack these days dude I wouldn’t want to muscle that bike down well depending on the track as well track’s just straight down the hill the weight doesn’t matter as much but yeah he’s he can maybe handle a heavier bike Connie yeah he’s a machine going back to it what’s like what was your well both of you biggest takeaway from McLaren like what was the one thing that you were like Blown Away by I’m trying to think of one thing I think the organization and like just everything the process and the logistics and every there’s just like not a thing out of place yeah maybe behind the scenes it’s chaos imagine but from us looking at engineering and looking at production and yeah oh it was amazing literally like nothing can get missed that’s the that’s like you said that’s the process like I don’t think it is chaos behind the scenes I feel like what you see is literally what you get because there’s no they don’t it’s almost leaving no error no margin for error yeah it’s impossible for anything to go wrong it seems like it was such a cool experience because that is a team that’s just got a third place at Formula 1 we were at the office and we had the trophy there in the staff room for for everyone to see every single person that lays up carbon they can go into the the coffee room yeah have a break and sit down and be like that’s why we’re working and that I think is yeah that’s cool but having that like unified goal to do well at races is so cool and I know it’s just like equally it’s like a load of Apes trying to be quickest in a car you put it like you know what I mean like they building the f car it’s like a soap box race but then when you see what humans are capable when you stick them together and you like use the brightest Minds it’s pretty impressive isn’t it yeah you know my made my head sore my biggest take there’s some really incredibly smart people there was seeing the floor from the so it came so silverston we went yesterday which was Monday silverston was the day before and they already had the floor of the car from practice out remember and all of the little um electrodes or centers all over the back of that floor so the floor was 60,000 Quid and then they had all of the add-on little bits but like pen marks yeah and all the little sensors impr literally track every little bit of flex I was like that’s insane that’s that blew my mind that is mind blowing even at 24-hour tesos closes doesn’t it I’ve turned up to 24-Hour Tesco has been stripped down that far that the floor they work 24 hours there they work 24 hours yeah it’s insane it’s nuts banks close not Formula 1 teams they’re literally 7 days a week 24 hours yeah Banks make enough money they can close they just close what do they do when they close what happens in there I they think they just count the money count it yeah do they yeah print more money add zeros on the end of things they’re just rolling it or can they sacrifice strange rituals oh dear yeah well we got more questions should we go through more yeah up to you boys I could go through more you’re a new you’re a new father though I feel like we’ve got covered that you’re a new father congratulations question I don’t do much Applause he’s reproduced to there’s do more round of applause man it’s nice uh I normally keep a lot of that stuff private I don’t even think I announced we were well I say we the beautiful wife was pregnant but then I don’t know I was pretty proud moments I put him on Instagram yeah cuz he’s probably going to come on Instagram again you know like when he does something stupid or I’m proud of him or I do something stupid yeah it’s pretty surreal I mean it was interesting being older than Bren and then you know seeing he’s got two kids and it was back to that age thing you just always have someone locked in an era probably when you really got to know him well and we probably similar you know yeah and then we’re talking about houses and mortgages and all adult [ __ ] and then you know next thing yeah I’ve got a little boy so um so sick dude yeah it’s tough going away like this trip I wanted to make efficient after Mega I was like okay England makes sense and come do this and do some riding some content but not hanging about you know it’s not I’m not here for the summer got to get I want to get home as well really puts things into perspective I must say I really appreciate just different things straight it’s really it’s that instantaneous everyone tells you that and until you have one just seeing him you see him for the first time it’s just okay life’s going to be a bit different now wow in a good way so what are the unforeseen changes that you’ve experienced un adulthood and fatherhood I mean it’s only been a couple weeks yeah dude it’s a it’s a lot man it’s a lot for my wife like she’s doing incredibly well but it’s a lot you’re looking after just a human being that can’t do anything for itself doesn’t you know they sleeping a lot they just need nappy changes they need care and have you been sleeping uh I I mean pockets of it yeah like I said I’ve got amazing wife that’s they’re forced to do more of it like I can’t feed the little critter but um you just yeah I mean time it’s just you appreciate your own time um you just don’t have a lot of it especially in the beginning it’s difficult as well people a parent is am amazed this it’s like yeah it is it’s all those things and it’s a lot I mean I’m sure all parents will be like yeah it is it’s a lot yeah I had a weird thought the other day about like the animal kingdom about which animals require more care did I talk to you about this don’t think so this is like this is like one of the olle goes on a cross country ride on his own I was like I was thinking go there they’re so useless baby humans like is love a trick because we have useless like baby humans require so much care and so much such a long period of you like to look after it basically you have to just love it completely because it it’s it’s so long isn’t it you have to care for it and then like in the animal kingdom if you look at the other animals that look after their babies versus let’s say praying mantis that probably shits it out and then tries to eat it almost instantly true there’s no you don’t like look at pre mans and think oh what cute behaviors you know what I mean I wondered whether yeah like love was like a trick to make you look after babies yeah how is it a trick wow how can it be a trick well what is it if it’s not well you can’t fake love like you either look off the kid or you don’t because you internally like I’m thinking from an evolutionary perspective I think it’s always been like this okay well how do you mean I feel like there was definitely people that wanted a certain sex of baby and when it wasn’t right there was no love lost it was like no try again bye yeah back in the day yeah that’s it’s quite gnarly it’s really gnarly but I don’t think it’s always been like this I feel like this is a more modern there’s lots of studies looking at having a baby L lot of studies on um human touch and babies that get it or don’t like you get SE problems and stuff if you yeah definitely yeah my partner works a lot in that right yeah you got I don’t know where the stats show but it’s quite dangerous not to give a baby physical touch you know why um how crazy is that do you know why when a baby’s born and that you know you people see it and oh yeah it looks like you it’s so that you could identify the baby cu the mothers used to get raped and everyone in the village would probably have a go on the same woman and then and then men had go going to provide your it looks like you it’s got black hair so it’s yours that’s why that’s why I think they have that they look like the father this is taking a turn I not expect inter you did it yeah you did it no it’s fascinating and I mean they associate with their mother up until a few months they don’t associate with it they they just still that’s why they need their mom a lot they feels they haven’t detached yeah they still feel attached to the mom yeah for safety like cuz they’ve been in the womb so all the senses are um developing at different times and all that sort of stuff like it’s I’m butchering a lot of it but no you’re going to go with Mom dad’s thinking about McLaren and you know what I mean you’re going to go with Mom oh the maternal instinct is insane yeah men can be like look after the kid and then you walk to the kitchen and your brain can just like forget you had a kid yeah you’ll be like wow wow that’s so cool um bike company’s releasing a new short travel so interested yeah I mean thinking I love the Little Critter but I might be spending his university fund on cars now yeah it’s or racing career that will go nowhere M you never know you’re looking pretty quick in that yeah good point yeah are we not me about car park test was real yeah absolutely underwater car park your neck would be gone dude you wouldn’t be able to drive Formula One car I mean weak look at it dude I don’t reckon you got it right my neck’s like the same size as my big head I was going to say you have right you won’t even fit in the seat you wouldn’t fit in the seat I wouldn’t would I my neck wouldn’t and other things I find it funny that they won’t let people even that work there that was something that struck me like they work there for ages and then last day they’re allowed to sit in the seat really yeah yeah Me by us I said I’m so sorry I’m asking this because I know the answer is no what you w’t sit in it I cuz when we got to the other building I thought okay maybe I can if I’m holding the trophy maybe I can sit in the seat I’m skinny Liberties dude and I said I know I shouldn’t be asking this I know it’s a no but I can’t come here not ask you know it was just us and the the two Engineers I was like obviously I can’t sit in the seat hoping he’s like if you’re quick like and you don’t tell anyone he said no and they like I remember so and so that worked here for 45 million years he got to sit in one on his last day wow made me say that but it’s really uncomfortable you just like out now yeah it won’t be you won’t even get in yeah it’s covered in piss like you know what he said to me that cuz I was like oh is there a simulator here and he was like yeah there is but like you’re not allowed to see it no one goes near the simulator like I hope you’re not going to get the boys fired off no we’re not even going to mention the name of the person who said it it was someone else oh okay good point yeah and uh apparently the simulator there it’s like a real car and the like the the floor of it moves so it’s more realistic that the car drives along the floor and the floor is just like it’s a it’s a massive floor this what he’s heard it’s not you know rumor in the factory so they don’t even go in there like No And it’s the it’s the floors rolling and then the screen is showing you the thing and the cars actually wrap around yeah the cars going along it how tricks that wow imagine that in downhill you just hop on the Sim and they plug in amar’s run and then like Fort William like sadle just hitting you in the ass and then it’s just got something pushing your your fingers for the brakes down bug s GT everywhere literally mud coming at you oh yeah rain oh dear all right well this has been a blast has that has been really fun you guys are doing a great job you happy big thanks yeah thank you for coming all the way just for this I did 1. I watched Semi's last year, loved how much racing there was. But it's stupid to have them and not show them.

But these ideas are amazing! UCI need to listen, not that it feels like they listen to anyone. 😂

    2. The talk about the riders who should be in the final was very good. People like gwin and minnar deserve a place 100%. I tune is as I want to see minnarr. Also they are getting older and have held the sport for so long. And are worth so much to the sport so people want to see them. Also getting older they must be finding it harder to do all the runs through the weekend. With all of that collated. They should be in the final if they want to be I recon. In random positions too so no one can moan about track conditions. Luck of the draw then

    3. Oli, the difference between feeling young and old is a combination of accumulated permanent injury pain (niggles) and responsibility (kids, payments, businesses, non-working wife perhaps). The difference between feeling like a youth and feeling like an adult, is a combination of whether you still do the things you did when you were young (could be anything) and by extension due to the old adage 'use it or lose it', how much of your youth you have forgotten and therefore become a boring, moaning, too much time on your hands, do-gooder who doesn't know who they are anymore and so settles into everything being a chore. Hence why 'adults' are easily angered by 'youths' doing youth things, which usually have little point to them outside of excitement, with massive downside risk if it goes wrong. They worry on behalf of everyone and it angers them as it's them as a group who have to fill out the paperwork!

    4. 1:58:25 It is actually not allowed to do any kind of remote controlled changes to the car in F1. What they do is program hundreds of programs to do changes to the engine, disable sensors ect. that the driver can execute from the streering wheel. So the team can tell the drivers to execute the programs, but not remotely execute them themselves. The principle is that the DRIVER is DRIVING the car, NOT the team on the pit wall.
They are also not allowed to automate changes based on e.g. track position. The driver has to adjust their brake balance, diff ect for each corner.
I think it should definitely be like this in MTB as well if there aren't any rules in place for this already. It will be an issue within a couple of years…
