road trip adventures are exciting at any time and any age, this is our trip to the stelvio pass in Italy, travelling through France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.

is the ducati multistrada 1200s , the right machine, do we have to worry about any Italian fragility or reliability.

testing brand new michelin road 5’s

[Music] [Music] [Music] good morning good morning good morning brilliant light brilliant nights in Malo last night they had a music festival on so every corner he went around with a different band or a different artist playing uh I’m just going to show you where the bike has been all night there was no lights hopefully they’ll turn on with ah yeah they turn on so bike’s been parked inside paid 12 for underground overnight park which pretty pretty good value up to the top load the bike up uh and then head off through Switzerland and into Italy where we can have two days rest which I think is needed I know we’ve only been on the road for two or be 3 days after we finished today but it’s uh it’s quite a lot quite a lot so yeah let’s get the bike out and get loaded [Applause] we have just left the hotel which is amazing scary dogs um and what an amazing amazing night we’ve had uh there was a music festival on in Malo which we didn’t know about that was fantastic so every corner you turned there was a new band or a new artist and it was absolutely fantastic we had a few drinks watched a bit of football cuz France were playing Holland last night um and the atmosphere was just great really really good atmosphere nothing like you get at home at home it would have been full of drunken boozers causing problems ending up in fights especially when there’s football involved but here nothing of the sort and it feels very much a case of well if the French wins the French win if the French lose and so be it so it was absolutely fantastic and we’ve woken up this morning gone to Starbucks for 8:00 when they open everywhere has been cleaned already the place looks stunning uh now one thing that’s weird about Malo is that it’s a medieval town but um and it’s beautiful absolutely beautiful but whereas somewhere like Brugge is a medieval town that is looks and still is a medieval town this has actually been painted up to look even more like a fairy tale town so this is like say Brugge would be a a historic medieval town and this would be a Disney version of that but it’s gorgeous and it’s Lush and we love it and we want to come back but today is the big run this is across Switzerland we’re heading for the Border or two of them today in fact I’ve bought my vignette so I can get through the Swiss border and uh oh there’s the bus that Karen was going to catch if she’d had enough by now um but we are heading for Switzerland there is rain coming in at 9:00 but we’re hopeful that we’re out early enough to to beat it and I’ve forgotten to do my neck piece up but I’ll sort that out at the next stop next set of Lights uh yeah vignette sorted we should be able to just go straight through the Border hit Switzerland have a few stops and then arrive in bouro later this afternoon which is the first time either of us have ever been to Italy it’s obviously the first time not obviously but first time either of us have been to uh um Switzerland as well so lots of news new things today all right let’s just find my way out of Malo first and then it’s all good right let’s uh concentrate on the roads I’ll catch up with you in a bit oh this is the the Border I think now the Swiss do not like anyone filtering so just give them a wave behind left oh wow I don’t am I supposed to be there or I don’t know where I supposed to be oh that’s to get your tolls I think I’ve already paid mine okay I think we’re in Switzerland left oh it goes under the Rin River or over the Rin River I’m not quite sure how we went under the town wow that’s amazing wow that’s some money’s worth there Jesus oh I’m down here as well look incredible right we get dressed under a tree there’s no point risking it I don’t think so if it gets hot an hour down the road we can take them back off again can’t we the Swiss do love a tunnel that’s what I expected Switzerland to look like I know this video is going to be a lot of oo and A’s coming from me but we’re heading now into I can only describe as the I don’t know the mouth of the Dragon I don’t think I’ve ever seen mountains this high and I know they’re going to get bigger and I know they’re going to get more aggressive and beautiful and rugged and I’m literally just at the foothills of the Alps I think I am anyway not even have started yet but wow this is just for phenomenal absolutely phenomenal oh off look at this it’s like a postcard hello hi uh dry B [Music] sorry s I’ve decided that this is without doubt the most picturesque spot that I’ve ever put fuel in my bike it is uh absolutely stunning this is just beyond stunning look at all these Porsches look wow oh people are loving these roads it’s a bit smoother than cheddar Gorge Jesus every time you come out of a tunnel it just gets that little bit more Al like I don’t know to like a Tober own I don’t know just it’s incredible wow it it just is in it talk oh do I get a receipt y thank [Music] you I have to show it again when we go up here yeah oh I think it opens at 20 P so it’s not quite open yet that’s all right it’s like a private road let’s have a look what this thing says did you want to get off are you okay oh my dear biker thanks for using the car and ferry service through the Verena tunnel please obey the following rules before you board the train oh we’re going on a train uh you must stop in one of the covered transport wagons motorcycles cannot be transported in the open wagons several motorcycles are placed next to each other in pairs please stay seated on your motorcycle for the dration of the Journey Keep the motorcycle ready to break wear your helmet throughout the journey follow the instructions my go going on a train we’re going on a we’re going on a train I thought it was just a road oh my day this is just insane yeah I’m saying yeah I didn’t even know we were going on it so this is an adventure for me as well sake well full disclosure we’ve um we’ve followed the satn towards Oro and um we’re going on a train not really sure how that happened I blame Karen um but it’s yeah we’re taking the motorbike on a train which is really weird look so apparently it’s only a 12-minute ride but it takes probably takes about as hopefully 30 40 50 minutes off the the ride or the the drive um but we’ve been sat here now for about half an hour waiting to get on so I think we’ve made any time but it is an adventure so we’re doing something a bit different look at this it’s just insane absolutely insane t my God that was worse than any Disney ride I have ever been on in my entire life Jesus Christ well I don’t need to do legs this week love huh I don’t need to do legs this week have you seen that that video of that girl on the roller coaster and she’s shouting I’m not okay I’m not okay that’s what I felt like oh dear God go off the left now I think what a place to stop though have yeah got that mountain behind us [Applause] you just think it couldn’t get any prettier but it just keeps on shocking you unbelievable isn’t it this is the offen pass all right it’s fine don’t worry [Music] no when I can’t climb on a bike anymore which to be fair probably isn’t that far away then we then we can have a three-wheeler it’s okay return it just one way just one way one way one bik huh thank you Balia I don’t know if I [Music] know yep straight through oh we’re in Italy Christ yes third country of the day that is amazing currently riding towards Boro in the stelvio National Park we’ve got the reservoir Lake next to us is absolutely glorious temperatures dropped slightly that’s not a bad thing cuz it was getting really hot coming through Switzerland we just stopped and had a cappuccino and a can of Coke Zero expecting to pay about6 it’s right on the border and it was 4 so extremely cheap extremely cheap so we started the day spending uh what was it €9 for a Starbucks in Malo France we’ve ridden through Switzerland on some of the most amazing roads I have ever seen in my entire life and on the scariest train journey while I’m still stood on the bike balancing it at what felt like 1,000 M hour and then through the uh what was it the offen pass which was quite hairy for Karen cuz when you’re not in control of something and you’re on the edge of a cliff it must be quite scary and then we’ve come across the border into it Italy we’ve done three countries in one day feel absolutely Epic and we’ve gotten about an hour and five minutes now towards Boro where we can rest up for a couple of days and give the bike a well earned break as [Music] well so I’ve done what I’ve wanted to do for such a long time which is ride a ducatti in Italy feels a bit special oh that’s incredible now that is is that a long way down what you want love temperature I love look now let me get around this corner oh actually when you’re not in the wind it’s quite comfortable that’s a view and a half that is isn’t it we’re a couple of miles away from bouro now or bour which is where we’re staying um we’ve done some severe mountain passes to get here um which were incredible great views I think Karen saw more of them than I did cuz I was concentrating so hard on the road uh but uh absolutely amazing scenery amazing scenery got to say Karen’s been an absolute Trooper she hasn’t moan she hasn’t complained and it’s been a long ride today probably about five and a half 6 hours in the saddle but we left at 8 just was it 8 or 8:30 this morning 8:30 Karen was it 8:30 yeah 8:30 and it’s now 5 to 5 so with all the stops that is uh by my calculations a long day but um amazing what a day we I I’ve just seen some of the the most epic roads ever today in Switzerland some of the most amazing scenery in Switzerland and in Northern Italy and it’s just blown my mind blown my mind and we are going to enjoy a worthy beer and a pizza tonight and I I can’t wait no Karen said she doesn’t even like pizza which she doesn’t but she’s still looking forward to it it’s got to be something special about a proper Italian pizza though surely ah [Music] right there us [Music] what

    1. Absolutely beautiful Phil, stunning scenery.
I absolutely despise going in garages where they ask you to remove your helmet. I wonder if they make people take off a burkha? Probably not at the risk of offending them.
      That train looked amazing😂😂
Well, that seems to have been a fantastic trip for you both. And so far, the Ducati has been faultless. 👌

    2. What a ride! 😮 Amazing 🤩🤩

I was in the area near Mulhouse (the Vosges) last year but avoided the town as it seemed like a big urban area – i guess a missed out.

Never skip leg day! 🦵 🦵

    3. Hi enjoying these vlogs thanks. Im off to Stelvio myself in September – could you tell me the route that train tunnel occurred on please -TIA -Ride safe

    4. Nice travelogue- I like your extra diligence with your passport/ wallet/ documents.
It’s so easy to stick things in your pocket as I have done and then lost things 😖

    5. Hiya, I'm enjoying these videos to see how you're getting on. I'll be doing a similar route myself in September.

      Just wondering about the vignette.
Can't decide whether to purchase one at the border or do it online.
I couldn't tell what you did.

I'm not one for sticking vignettes to the bike as they're a pain to remove, so I'm thinking online with a digital vignette.

Also read that France has these emissions stickers to buy. Did you need one?
      Thx
      G

    6. Some spectacular riding in this (and a slightly scary looking train ride). Looks like venturing into the city had its rewards with the music festival.
You bought the Ducati back to Italy 🇮🇹
Well done with the riding and edit. Cheers

    7. We cancelled a long planned trip to Switzerland this summer because of the floods and all the flood warnings (still active 6th of June). You seemed to go without knowing about it and succeeded never experiencing any of it. Next year we'll probably just close our eyes and go too. Stay safe!

    8. Hard to put into words what you were seeing there.
It's mind blowing. What a trip, so much better when it's dry. Really nicely put together.

    9. Stunning Phil. Brilliant riding when you're trying to take in the surroundings. Love the F bombs 😂. Similar riding roads down south and over on the west coast from here but obviously not the same extent. Looking forward to the next installment mate

    10. I rode in Europe but in the 80s the French had tolls and the road pirates too alot I thought but really you could flat out haul in most of Europe, Germany had no top speed or speed depending on conditions on the big autobahns.

    11. Switzerland – One of the most breathtaking places on earth. No matter how many times I visit family, smelling the fresh air of the Alps, amazing lake views just never gets old.

    12. I’ve just returned from a similar trip. My friend and I did a number of alpine passes in Switzerland, France and Italy including the Stelvio pass and, as you say, the views, roads and scenery are breathtaking. The Stelvio was the cherry on the cake and we also returned via the B500 through the Black Forest. Looking at our photos it’s hard to believe the roads we rode over and it’s one I’d recommend to anyone 😊
