Balkans Cycling Adventure – BCA. Cycle Day 2: Sapareva Banya, Bulgaria to Delčevo, North Macedonia. 81.5km (1176vm). Connal Tours European Cycling Tour 2024.
The day started with a long gentle cycle, mainly downhill, as we followed the valley, knowing the end of our planned route was going to be the tough bit. Villages every 3-5 km. Vicious 20km climb to the border post.
Our first border crossing – passport checks leaving Bulgaria and entering North Macedonia. Vehicle checks also on entering North Macedonia – they waved us through with a big grin. Then 12km downhill to Delčevo in North Macedonia. Some amazing views back into the valley and to the line of snowcapped mountains as we slowly made our way up this climb. Once again slow & steady got us there with regular rests.
Delčevo – interesting mix of partly built new buildings, old and ugly buildings, but an apparently happy population. They seem to come out to socialise as the night goes on. Pop 11k. River Bregalnica at the foot of Mount Golak.
