More hidden seaside gems.

Hello and welcome to the Great British Biking Adventures Coast Series. In this series we are travelling around the coast on our motorcycle, a Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer.

A lot of our viewers are bike enthusiasts but this series will appeal to a wider audience. Why? Because there’s so much more to the Coast series than motorcycles. There’s the challenges, the journey, geography, history and people. You get to travel the entire coast of England and Wales with us, see how we did it, share our ups and downs, experience English culture, the history and hear about the people that made Britain ‘Great’!

What’s also good about the coast series is it doesn’t matter when you start watching, it’s like one of those open top bus tours – you can get on at any point and just keep going until you arrive back where you started.

Who are we? We’re a husband & wife living in an unremarkable coastal town in England. We’ve been married 35 years and were brought together by motorcycles. One day, Esther’s Honda Melody broke down and she brought it to Jarrod’s motorcycle shop – the rest (as they say) is history.

One cold February day, we started riding along the seafront and just kept going. We wanted to record the experience to have something to watch in the future – the YouTube channel was an afterthought. Take a look at those first few episodes to see just how novice we were, cobbling together what little phone footage we had to try to make a story. To make up for our amateur recording and shyness we added information in the editing. This set the tone and style of our videos, we hope you like it. We like to think we’ve improved and hopefully you’ll agree, take a look, compare our earlier videos with the later ones and let us know in the comments.

There’s also the filming and production journey. When we started we knew nothing about filming, video and audio production, editing, YouTube and the like. We’ve learnt loads and spent loads in time and money along the way but it’s been almost as enjoyable as the journey itself. You’ll hopefully appreciate how far we’ve come.

But what’s with all those bible verses we hear you say. We know some of you don’t appreciate this aspect, one or two have told us in the comments! That’s fine – it really is. All are equally welcome here, believers and unbelievers. It would be a pity if you enjoyed everything else but just stopped watching because of the Christian references but we completely accept you’re free to do as you please.

Our faith has prompted us to include a bible verse in our videos and sometimes a Christian perspective on the things we talk about. The channel is not about Christianity but our faith cannot be separated from it. We hope and pray that it will make you think, inquire and even bring you into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

[Music] hello and welcome to our Coast Adventure a complete tour of the English and Welsh Coastline by motorcycle and what time it’s about 5:00 500 p.m. and we have coming to the end of this day we’re looking for somewhere to stay we’re at aore by sea been here before uh delightful place but there’s nowhere on Google or booking that says there’s a place to stay so we’re just going to ogore by SE and going to take a look and see if there’s a a B&B with a vacancy if not we could be coming back to just to a place that we just passed G just in there [Music] [Music] it’s time to get his head out of the clouds and back to reality we still haven’t found a place to stay the night he thought there’d be a BNB along this road but I’m not so sure stick with us and find out who’s right we’ve been here before I mean figuratively and also literally we visited ogmore by sea less than a year ago and discovered there’s nowhere to stay perhaps he’s hoping someone has built a hotel in the meantime in fact given its location this place is unusual for its lack of facilities and attraction but it wasn’t always like that once upon a time there were several hostes in and around ogmore the most prominent was the sea lawn hotel by all accounts it was well loved by locals and visitors alike and was doing well as a pub restaurant and wedding venue it had nine rooms and was the venue for two performances a year by the local amateur dramatic Society it had amazing views over the Glamorgan Heritage Coast but for some reason it closed in 2005 it was the last Pub in the village it was boarded up and left to Decay controversially it was demolished without the appropriate permissions in 2012 in 2016 these SE view Flats were built on the site of the seaons hotel [Music] [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh oh yeah this had the old shut up Hotel didn’t it on the right down here let’s see if that’s been resurrected no there we go I remember that place look how sad that is oh doesn’t look like it does it doesn’t advertise rooms the three cups what does it say on the board up there died in campsite we didn’t bring our camping gear this time so that’s a no unless we ring them there’s no point turn why don’t we just ring them cuz if you I wanted to look down Riv yes you did yeah yeah I think we should turn yep oh Lord um this is a bit of an action replay from when we were here before isn’t it we struggled then yeah I mean we could carry on as well that’s an option restaurant Rel in the day oh that’s not even open not that we need a restaurant but no I me some of them look like oh yeah that’s a be but there’s absolutely no signage to ad I that it is so perhaps I’m living in a bygone era but does anyone else wish for those times when you could take a road trip and there would be a plentiful selection of places advertising themselves with a clear sign that either said vacancies or no vacancies nowadays it seems everything is online wow what a stunning Road yeah have you been here before I haven’t cool that’s steep isn’t it oh maybe yeah wow look at that Cliff Edge there a gate over [Music] there so what does the sign say welcome to D Raven Castle oh it’s great seeing everybody enjoy the beach they had a lot of fun yeah so Lov you all right I was just wondering sorry I find it hard to hear with this wondering can we go through no aout but all GES across okay that’s all right Coast Journey we did see it and we wondered if we get through second question we’ve been here before and that this problem if you’re a local is there anywhere to stay is there a B&B i’ head towards pend you might be leaving but there’s one called Myers B&B which is quite reasonable in town okay in brid yeah yeah that’s not far it’s not far it’s about 10 minute drive oh okay yeah yeah so is it only Wy Road or C that’s it’s right opposite the Chip Shop I tell you make it better results if you go to um the hotel on top yeah there’s the best West but that’s going to be that’s not cheap I know but I I don’t know prices a factor but you got best Weston yeah the best Weston if you go right at the top of the hill okay follow the road for a little ways turn left into St bright follow that road all the way then you pass the same the Great West or best Bridgend was back in the direction we had come from and as you may know Jared has an irrational aversion to turning around sometimes I think he would rather circumnavigate the globe than make a U-turn so we pressed on to St bride’s major where we called in at St Bridget’s Farmhouse BNB and even tried our luck with pool Farm camping but by this stage we would have been happy with a dry Hay Loft but to no avail so he ended up admitting defeat and we made our way back into bridg end so we you somewhere to stay you don’t have no we popped into the place we passed at the end of the last episode where we’ve stayed before but there wasn’t a room so we went on to the Best Western but they didn’t have a room either looking back perhaps I should have taken more notice of the recommendation I’ve since Googled the May’s BNB and it looks very nice searching online wasn’t going well until a room at the Weatherspoon hotel in the center of Bridgend popped up oh no oh dear I think I’ve just locked myself out and this is our room but I’ve locked us out can’t open the door oopsy I’m in now so this is our room interesting isn’t it we have a light in the ceiling so not so bad that’s um some kind of many events in uh South Wales this weekend so we were lucky to get a room the man said this was a cancellation and we probably tried about six places already or seven and Jared’s just unloading the bike for us let him do that I just locked myself out the room did you yeah I went on a little hunt and found the man and he just let me back in he says he gave you two keys so I don’t know where the other one have you got both still they’re probably both in there oh that’s all right then so we that’s okay so yeah [Music] [Music]

    1. Good morning you wonderful people, I'm a bit late this week due to circumstances beyond my control.anyhow it was well worth waiting for to get my beautiful coastline fix. Hope the bike was still there in the morning bike theft is bad up north! Thanks for sharing enjoy your weekend.TTFN.

    2. Love have you keep having to make U Turns 🤣 Reminds me of 'no room at the Inn for Mary' , have expecting you to end up in a barn with nothing but some Hay on the floor 😇 That food looked tasty at the end, surely that wasn't from 'Spoons?!

    3. Thanks for the wonderful last few episodes. I’ve caught up now. I sometimes wonder what Britain’s coastal and seaside resorts would be like if foreign holidays were either banned or never took hold.
I stayed in a Wetherspoons in Whitby earlier this year and found it to be reasonable with a sea view.

    4. Fabulous channel. You’re right about the old Guest Houses and B&B’s sadly most gone to Airbnb with resultant inflated prices and a lot with minimum stay periods. 😞
