hi and welcome to eurobike day three in amongst some great Tech today we’ve got a revolutionary new motor gearbox [Music] unit Superior from the Czech Republic uh this is a range of Bosch SX bikes with 400 wat hour batteries 140 150 mil travel 29in Wheels top end bike let’s talk weights here 17.4 kilos that is pretty impressive uh but folks I’m sure you agree uh really nice looking bike from a brand I’ve not come across before so like I said flying machines from the Czech Republic they do actually have a uh Bosch CX bike over here as well which also is looking a bit suspect in terms of the motor now this is the Bosch CX version of the superior bike this is the exf 6.5 uh just over €6,000 um if you look at the casing again on this bike um it’s a different casing the motor looks a little bit more compact than the existing Bosch performance iron CX it’s got some different kind of uh something going on on the top there like a there’s different there’s something different going on on the casing on the top looks like they’ve covered it up on this bike compared to the M1 uh I’ve just learned about vertical integration it means you don’t rely on suppliers you make the component parts yourself uh Pito is from shenzen in China uh three things you need to know uh apart from the vertical integration that is they make three motors we’ve got a 1.9 kilo 60 newm motor then there is uh a 2.6 kilo version which is 90 newm very very Punchy and then look at this beauty here look this is the 110 newm version very slick very compact uh and like I said vertically integrated full power motor I love a bit of print magazines uh Robin Schmidt Robin highlight Ean bike and you’re eating an apple highlight uh of e- mountain bikes from eurobike 2024 from you I You’ have ridden a lot of bikes I haven’t seen honestly I haven’t walked around yet but probably one highlight is the DJI motor the new one um for what reason for the whole connectivity and of course like I think there’s it’s a serious print that will be yeah making some noise in the future but let’s see I haven’t uh written it yet you did Peter did and it’s exciting right yeah yeah yeah big statement from Robin Schmidt and check out e mountain bike magazine very cool maid E1 168000 what’s the news here I think the key bit of information is maid suspension is Lively and really good fun bikes to ride great geometry too this bike’s got an 800w hour battery you can get it with a 600 as well Shimano EP 801 so this bike comes with di2 29 27.5 it can be run with 29 in wheels at the back as as well uh but I think more than anything it’s the weight this bike comes in at around about 22 kilos however there’s the 10K version behind me which is closer to 20 so long range lightweight Lively bikes from Rita right let’s have a quick uh look around the demo area here at eurobike H starting off with hyena and we saw hyena out in Taiwan earlier in the year they make a super compact 2.3 kilo 70 newm motor looking for people to use their system and they do actually make an e- mount bike system they do the motor the battery the super neat display and the controller so uh hyena from Taiwan really looking forward to riding their bikes in the future Iron Horse bikes was a brand from New Jersey originally a brand ridden to many World Cup successes with Sam Hill black Iron Horse on the other hand is from Denmark they make one of the only full suspension cargo bikes in the world this has actually got a Shimano Nexus Hub on the back super smooth hub uh ep6 motor and batteries located just behind the seats there need to ride some more cargo bugs I think speaking to Gary Fisher earlier in the week and he mentioned that round Motors are actually lighter so I’m thinking in the likes of TQ of ZF and also Delta Now Delta from Taiwan we saw them earlier in the year this motor is 90 newm weighing in at 2.9 kilos so really excited to get rid on this bike in the future Nikolai bikes beautiful geometry great sizing a fantastic suspension but more than anything just well crafted e- mountain bikes couple of options here couple of examples GT1 with uh Bosch motor and a rolloff Hub on there with a with a belt drive obviously the flagship is the Saturn 16 with a pinion mgu belt drive really really looking forward to riding this bike this this particular example here has got a 960 wat hour battery so and then finally we’ve got the bike with the Bosch SX motor super stealth and again great sizing great geometry and also probably a stunning looking bike as well okay guys just going to give you a quick guided tour of the ZF Centric motor got front of house here we’ve got the remote top tube display and The Handlebar mounted display in terms of the modes we got Eco active Sport and boost so going to give you an idea of the how the motor sounds out in the trail so I’m just spinning now low speed is hardly any sound from this motor let’s do a let’s do a nor 60 sh we here we go okay what did that take that literally took I think maybe a couple of seconds to get to 25k seriously cannot wait to ride this bike here it is guys from Belgium auru a continuously variable transmission it’s basically a motor gearbox unit 4.6 kilos I’ve just ridden it it is super quiet uh how it works I’ll tell you some very brief information on this uh it electronically adjusts the gear ratio in basic very very basic terms uh how on Earth are there no e- mountain bikes with this system on it um I’m actually I was actually gobsmacked when I rode the bike like I said it’s so quiet uh and they’re going to be making well they’re actually making a prototype version for e- mountain bikes at the moment this is like this is like seriously big news actually the guys did tell me we did have it on the emn show a few months ago but to actually ride it and see it is quite a different matter great work auru great work Focus Vamp 2 SL 16.2 kilos these bikes start from 5,499 uh 29 in Wheels 130 mil travel fua ride 60 system on here and like I said with a 430 wat hour internal battery very Sleek very light and uh yeah starting at a quite decent price uh always been a big fan of bulls bikes uh fantastic spec great prices um this is new series of Sonic en R bikes it’s uh e- racing I couldn’t quite pin them down to the exact facts of why these bikes are racing bikes uh they tried to tell me about adjustable geometry and component specifications but these are the kind of Parts you get on lots of other bikes lots of other bikes do have adjustable geometry two features I really like are the the bash guard there that is a proper bash guard you seldom see bash guards like that on emtbs so um yeah enr series from Bulls very cool looking bikes we saw a couple of uh Nikolai bikes on the demo stand earlier but if I if someone’s asked me what would be top of my hit list of bikes – bikes I like to ride I think it would be this particular one here sattin 16 in this particular spec I think uh it’s a really exciting bike I mean Nikolai precise unique head of the curve all those things great sizing great suspension design yeah definitely a banger I’d like to try uh folks we have to say a huge thank you to this gentleman here Alex toubas um who designed the first ever high bike xuro back I think it was 2012 Alex right oh it was 2010 2010 2010 Euro bike 2010 wow I mean I mean if it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be rting any mountain bikes um Alex is now the CEO of heer we saw heer bikes earlier but Alex this is a cool feature you got here right I mean why isn’t this on mountain bikes too it has to be on mountain bikes I guess it’s it makes sense on all bikes we buil it in this uh in this in this Urban bike to show it off but if it was up to us we would have it on each bike because I think it’s a great thing because uh you can decide your riding position d uh dynamically during riding if you want to have sporty or you want it bit more upright or something in between it’s you decide either you set it up one time or you change a riding position during riding which is makes a lot of sense because if you are on a longer tour sometimes you want to stretch your back nothing easier than that you just lift it and once you want to go downhill or you want to have it a bit more more sporty you go down and sorry if you go downhill you lift it because then you’re even out your seating position so many bright ideas in the mountain bike world when it comes to suspension design But ultimately simple things do work I mean single pivot bikes have one multiple world down championships uh on an e- mountain bike uh I think having movement in the back end and a good Dynamic ride is very important because e- bikes obviously do everything so this is Orange’s phase Evo MX obviously it’s got 29 27.5 Wheels in it great geometry on orange bikes it’s got the Bosch SX motor 55 newm 400 W hour battery there and what I really like about this bike obviously it’s aluminium which I like as well and the price on this about ,000 you’ve got a stash box at the top there for putting whatever you want in so there you go folks from Halifax a flying machine okay so I’m now with Andrea from whistle bikes uh let’s get 30 second history of whistle bikes where are they from Italy from Monza yeah and what do you they established is H starting from atala atal is 100 years older now 100 years old yes because at is a really old old company you know is one brand of that is born around 30 years ago is in the there are two category A is for leisure bicycle and whel for sports quick story folks I was on holiday and I saw these bikes in a shop so I did a video and I thought that’s a really cool bike let’s know what you think this is 170 mil travel Bosch motor 73 wat hour battery 29 in Wheels price price is around public price 8,000 okay fantastic Andrea thanks so much thank you to you uh free roide Legend Richie slle what’s the question well we keep talking about when we’re going to ride together because we never have let’s do this hey so here’s the question is e- mountain biking here we are 20 years later does e- Mount bikeing actually actually allow proper free ride I mean why not you get I got into the sport for the descending not for the climbing and the ebike lets you get get up the mountain quicker and easier so to me it’s all part of the same deal free riding ebike free riding it’s just riding free riding thanks Richie why does roadfield use a chain instead of a belt on its pinion mgu bike oh there’s several reasons why we do that uh first of all a chain is a part of our mountain bike experience for years and it’s easy to handle it if you have a problem with it you can have it solved all over the world and then it’s a very strong chain we’re using and so this will it’s a different chain uh it’s uh like a single speed chain yeah and so this will keep you on the Tres safe and pushing forward simple as that right right thank you very much hey Gau several brands that you need to know about hea brand from uh Germany super cool full suspension bikes they also do aventon which is an American brand really cool hard Tales so now uh we getting Manu Schmidt to take charge it’s a very it’s a very strong motor I had uh ridden a bike with this motor I think it’s two years ago and it was very very strong you like a strong motor yes because I’m old me too yes and I’m but I’m a little older and I have only just and I have not so much I like a strong wine too yes I also and strong red R we we are strong mans and we are always always like strong B and here is one such bike with the gabar motor excepted heer have developed their own software uh to make this bike operate a little bit differently so the key messages here are 80 90 or 100 newon met uh the engineer at Gau uh assured me that the uh reliability of the motors is pretty up there um 150 M travel 29 in wheels and the bike start at and the bike start at $47.99 so there you go folks heer from Munich this is the man responsible for giving me my first mountain bike job right I guess you could say that dirt magazine back in the day thanks Mark thanks so much it was my pleasure is good days right dirt magazine why you put me on the spot here we doing a thing is he live of course he is Gee Mark Noble folks Mark Noble hello Mark Noble from dirt magazine and now DMR bikes and upgrade and hello don’t need a marketing Spiel well what do you want you thank you chilo from Zurich and Switzerland are relaunching now this brand has got massive two wheel Heritage uh winners of to Fran stages and from what I’m told they have some amazing bikes previously in on the road world but we’re focusing on e- mountain bikes there’s several bikes which which will be coming uh next year and start off with this which is a Shimano ep8 bike but it’s got a 400 wat hour battery uh the reason for that is this is like a D- tuned version similar to the canondale Moa SL or the orbe rise so this is a a sub2 kilo bike 150 140 29 27.5 couple of key features I think which are notable is the straight SE tube and also the standover is a really really low stand over on this bike which is uh you know great for chucking around on the Hills uh range exender 200 W hours there’s another bike 160 170 they’ve also got this bike here which is uh 150 160 this time it’s the uh full power version of the Shimano 600 wat hours or 800 W hours you can still fit the range extender of 200 W hours on there as well this time is 29in Wheels uh front and rear uh really cool bikes and I think it’s nice to have some which looks actually visually different to many of the other bikes here that’s it thanks for joining us from here at eurobike in Frankfurt if you haven’t seen day one and day two please go and check those out some really cool Tech going on in the e- mountain bike world

  1. If you meet Claus Fleischer from BOSCH, please ask him what this is all about: The new gearshift and the new range extender don't fit my 1 year old BOSCH, but I can cycle to the dealer and pick up the new Eco+ manually with cable. New Smart+ for Dullis? 😉

  2. "vertically integrated full power motor"
Peak of cycling journalism, all was missing was a red nose and a little bit of makeup.

  3. Great to see continuous innovation, love the gearbox motor combos, the future for sure. Battery tech is what is really holding everything back, time to move past lithium!

  4. I watch your vogs hoping you'll give some Information and revues on fully equipped bikes with mudguards lights rack and stand but you never do. I noticed a bike at the end of the vlog hoping you'd pick it out but you guys aren't interested. I don't think this is fair because bikepacking e bikes are something lots of people will be interested in. Please don't ignore this field of e biking. Thanks.

  5. Hepha – love and look forward to the, like a ‘dropper post’ raise / lower handlebars for my urban bike as a recipient of neck & back injuries from motorcycle crash. eMTB not so sure, but could be great. We are definitely in the golden age of e-bikes, so good to be alive.

  6. They are all still priced like motorcycles, i hope they all fail. I hope all mountain bikers go on strike and stop buying, and realize that your old bike are still okay, dont buy these bikes . Sorry i am ranting because i cant afford to keep up anymore.

  7. Dread to think how rubbish the range is on the orange always loved orange I had the ealpine too expensive, too heavy and battery too small BIG DISSAPOINTMENT no they have dropped the ball and you sold out! Plugging it! Not impressed.

  8. Thanks Steve, top quality video as usually! Who needs shitty tv broadcast when we have quality channel like yours 🙂 Please, don't stop filming and making videos, keep'em coming…

  9. why are they showing all these bikes with the current ebike motor cystems that literally no one will want now that the dji and zf have been announced?

  10. thanks for the coverage….so many interesting drive units
love your channel, together with sam's bikes and loam wolf the best 3 eMTB channels imo, but for news and tech EMBN is the best one

thinking of getting my first eMTB for few months now but not sure if now is the right time…
when all this new tech hits the shelves in 1-2 years noone will want to buy the heavy outdated current bikes and I can't spend 6-7k on a new bike every 2-3 years ;o]]

  11. I can’t imagine how many of these fly by night companies will be out of business in the next 5 years after market saturation, leaving many consumers with zero product support

  12. The trouble is, these innovations and advances are great BUT, can the average rider afford the bikes? I thought my Rail 5 was pricey at £4150. I'm sticking with that at 70 for at least another 3 years and then I might need summat with a gyroscope to keep me on it! 🤣

  13. Hello Steve, thanks for the kind words about our Owuru motor. We were thrilled to meet so many people at Eurobike this year and to witness the enthusiasm for the tech. We can't wait to present to all an eMTB with our drive unit, it's just so much fun to ride.

  14. Now the real challenge, a universal battery system (200, 400, 600 and 800W) with the same charger. Better start doing it now than later under pressure from EU.

  15. That Owuru eCVT is basically what Toyota used in their hybrid cars since the Prius (until the recent change to hybrid max powertrains). If done right that should be almost bullet proof.

  16. so many paths so many options for the consumer to get lost and waste money. i never sawe such a scenario before in bike industry.completly mess each one present a product doing the same like the others and no real benefit for mtbikers. all having problems with no fast and reliable solutions in the next future . Even the betters and solid in the market are not completly reliable. They are all fishing for money- The list of errors that appear in the sreens are more than the visitors ahahah
