The power output that the pro cyclists are producing this Tour de France are some of the highest in recent years with some averaging more than 300 watts for 4 hours! However, this Tour has also shown us that power alone cannot guarantee great performances, as the gravel stage slowed down the peloton due to many riders not having the ‘skill’ to find the right lines!

Dan and Si also go on to discuss some ridiculous fines imposed by the UCI at this Tour de France!

welcome to the gcn show coming up this week the incredible power outputs of Tor of France cyclist gbia records broken incredible solo exploits we take a deep dive in what it takes to ride the biggest race on the planet plus how the UCI managed to alienate even more cycling fans some epic Pro skills and some of the hottest new tech from the world’s biggest bike show including a new tire valve wow he really selling it to us [Music] Dan this week in the world of cycling we learned that Sir Mark Cavendish claimed a vintage Mark Cavendish stage win at the tour to surpass Eddie ms’s alltime stage win record and he made it look easy like the C of old yeah both surprising and not surprising at the same time but definitely Ely incredibly impressive although Dan it might actually have been down to his Arrow socks which are so Arrow they cost €1,000 right it even when they’re slightly baggy well baggy socks I don’t understand how that would happen still we learned that € 1,000 socks aren’t even the worst offenders this week € 1,800 shoes were spotted at eurobike and you know those shikon sunglasses with the nose covering that makes you look like Batman I know them very well yes okay so apparently it’s not just a nose piece that makes you look like Batman it is a custom 3D printed nose piece that makes you look like Batman and it costs over €300 just for the nose piece yeah not the glasses just piece yeah uh don’t worry UC are contemplating baring it apparently anyway so you don’t need to worry at all and a few meters behind Cavendish we also learned that the humble Bunny Hop really does get you out of trouble here is cofish r Alex zingle performing a textbook hop at 60 km an hour over a stricken Mass pson who I think was still sliding on the ground at the time now the question is was it good enough to impress even a mountain biker that’s incredible that is really fast thinking and he’s knacked legit skills legit skills 100% so Ries can be very skillful can’t we oh yeah we should though also have played him this today patas dice with death no matter how many times I have watched this clip I still can’t work out how he stays up right there no he’s it’s like he’s defying the laws of physics or at least bending them to his own will anyway not all Tor of France Pros are at quite the same skill level as we found out on Sunday stage with gravel yeah this is something I dived into on the racing news show yesterday and something that you and I were chatting about at the coffee machine this morning isn’t it yes there were a lot of people who loved that stage ourselves included whilst others said that it made the race look more like a circus than a professional sport and that gravel has no place in Grand TOS certainly not in the modern era yeah now I know you’ve already disagreed with that particular take but I would also like to say that I disagree too with that take so I was watching yesterday in with a little bit of frustration actually at some of the Riders lack of skill on gravel and their seeming inability to pick the lines I’m about to do something that we don’t often do now s what’s that I’m going to blow our own trumpet oh wow ones I mean we normally make fun of our own mediocre Pro careers don’t we but before I criticize a Rider’s skill I just feel like I should point out that we both raced mountain bikes didn’t we to a decent level as in we represented our country at the world championships and we’ve both done our fair share of Psych across at Elite level too otherwise I think there’s going to be a lot of people watching this who are going to question what right we have to pass comment on Sunday’s gravel stage yeah so we don’t have too much to shout about too damn but we do have some experience I mean skills and power output are different things aren they really anyway I was watching Sunday stage as Riders lost traction or chose lines that were clearly terrible on looser ground around corners and we’re generally just looking really uncomfortable on that terrain and I was think thinking about how great it was that skill was involved in a stage as well as power exactly now some people would argue that Pro Road Riders shouldn’t have to learn those skills but we say it’s part of it even on tarmac so some Riders are just much better bike handlers than others and that results in fewer crashes more energy conserved and often better results that’s right and is a reminder if you are a young aspiring cyclist or even an old aspiring cyclist it is highly advisable to do some off-road riding and or racing in fact to build up your skills base it could genuinely pay dividends in your later career and that could be in terms of results or bunny hopping someone yeah on the ground you can generally see a difference K I mean you have to look at the van Arts vanderpols pitcocks Sans of this world on the men’s side to see that they are just better in general even if it’s on tarmac and not gravel but at the same time we also learned that training your power is going to be important as well because we were trolling through straa yesterday and found some quite incredible power outputs so firstly Jonas abrahamson on stage eight he found himself up the road solo for most of the stage and for 4 hours he averaged 342 wats not normalized average that is mind-blowing isn’t it now as any of you will know from Dan’s interview with jonis abrahamson just ahead of the tour to France he weighs 80 kilos but nevertheless that’s 4.3 watts per kilo for 4 hours plus he’d already been in a lot of breakaways at the tour and he was back in the thick of the action again on the gravel stage the day after he’s a right Beast isn’t he he is yeah as is Derek G so he’s spent all day out the road in the breakway on that gravel stage got third on the day and his power average for the 4 and a half hours was 324 wats and given his 10 kilos lighter than abrahamson that’s even more impressive from a per kilo point of view yeah add to the fact that he averaged 42 Watts for the first hour of the stage should we repeat that 402 watt average for an hour like that’s not an FTP test that is literally just I mean that’s start of the stage yeah so and that’s the point of the stage where the break is getting established so there’s a lot of jumping around but there’s also quite a lot of soft pedaling at that point isn’t it so it’s just kind of mindblowing well not a lot of soft pedaling but you know what I mean not in that I hope not anyway no but anyway at this point you start to appreciate just how incredible how Superior those guys are to even the very best normal people uh Tom pidock doesn’t generally upload his power data to straa but in a postra interview he said he averaged 280 Watts on that stage for the 4 and a half hours he’s 58 kilos so that’s 4.8 watts per kilo W so for me that’s about 350 Watts King yes now I think possibly on a good day I might currently still be able to do that for an hour I think I mean that is like technically what my FTP is well you are still quite fit you train a fair bit still don’t you uh for me it would be 360 Watts 4.8 watts per K cuz I packed quite a lot of muscle on at the gym recently I we can see that mate I reckon I could hold that for about 4 and a half minutes as opposed to 4 and a half hours no you you do more that me well I haven’t tested it but I wouldn’t think it’s that far off as a guesstimate I think that’s what we to do over over the course of this next week can you just squeeze in a four and half as long as it’s during work time I’m happy to do it I I think I think we all agree that that’s work yeah uh now the other performance they got everyone talking about last week came on stage four which scaled the mighty CER galier I mean it’s a Whopper that one isn’t it it’s an absolute Beast According to some people online who get their stopwatches out for these kind of things pet did the last 8 kilm in uh that’s a steep part there isn’t it that yeah that’s like after the left after the right turn off the kind of like well the lter isn’t it it’s the lower bit anyway he did it in 20 minutes 50 seconds which was 1 minute 43 faster than nairo canana in 2019 which was the fastest previous time and 3 minutes faster than the quickest Rider in 2022 when it was last Us in the race and that was where the doping talk ignited again was it how can it be going so much faster especially as there was a headwind up there that day well you have to look into the details of each stage to understand the Nuance so on stage four this year the top of the climb so was effectively the Finish Line in some respects wasn’t it because all that remained was The Descent down the other side of the finish so they were at their absolute maximum for that last8 case whilst in 2022 it came midstage they were at much lower Tempo and in 2019 it was in the third week and at the end of a brutal 200k day yeah paga also had three Riders setting the pace up there three Riders who have all finished on a grand tour Podium themselves in the past and the best eight riders or so this year were all quicker than kintana in 2019 does that mean all eight of them are cheating absolutely not I mean we’re not going to stick our hands in the fire and claim that all pro cyclist are clean we can’t possibly know that of course but I do think it’s important to add some context to the performances that are being brought into question by so many online yeah what was also interesting on that day was The Descent wasn’t it cuz you kind of said the Finish Line was at the top but also the Finish Line was at the bottom of an unbelievable descent now I think we can all remember Tom pidcock’s Daredevil descending down the gbia in 2022 to get across to a break wasn’t it I think but a couple of riders went as fast or in some cases even faster than pitcock on the upper technical part yeah this came from olle Bridgewood didn’t it who did a deep dive on straa fly by from that day anyway the man that was quicker than Pitcock his own teammate Carlos Rodriguez who isn’t the first Rider that comes to mind when you think about super quick descenders is he despite his stage winning exploits at last year’s race yeah interestingly most of the front Riders were quicker from top to bottom than Pitcock but again the difference is explained with the context of the stages in it so pitcock still had two climbs to come including Al Duz presumably he bridged across to the break halfway down right whilst on stage four this year the Finish Line as mentioned was at the foot of the Descent so everyone was going as fast as they possibly could on that lower section still interesting I though it is anyway for the technical part all right let us know in the comments what you’ve been most impressed about and most entertained with at this year’s Tour of France so far yeah there is a lot to choose from ism’s incredible team Victory on stage one with Roman B saav making it 35 gmet taking two stages pagat exploits on the gravel yes we look forward to reading your thoughts on which was the most entertaining i’ say it’s been a brilliant tour to France so far oh it has can I just ask you a question because Derek G we’ve given him a shout out for being amazing you had a bit of money on Derek G didn’t you for the overall for the overall yes but that’s not looking too good not looking good at the moment no he did go up from 15th to 9th on GC on the gravel stage but think he might pay for those power outputs in the coming couple of weeks a that is a shame yeah he’s he’s genuinely fantastic to watch though is Derek G well that yeah that’s my kind of my main thought apart from as we talked about last week those stages that the Sprint stages that have been a little d as soon as there’s any Prospect of some proper racing people are getting stuck in aren they they are yeah there’s a lot that um a lot of your team can benefit from at the tour of FR isn’t there so you need to get stuck in now it is a great sadness that we end this part of the show by talking about the loss of another young Talent pro cyclist Andre Drager of Team Co-op Repsol crashed on a descent at the tour of Austria on Saturday with the most tragic of consequences the world of cycling has paid tribute to Andre over the last 48 hours with messages of support to his family friends and teammates flooding in uh to which of course we would like to add our own rest in peace Andre Drager and now it’s time for cycling shorts okay cycling shorts now and we’re going to start with the news that tire valves one of those bits of tech that is actually really annoying and prone to not working but that we all take for granted that it’s just the way it is might actually be about to change correct sh B famous for their tires D an alternative to Shader valves which are the type you find on a car and Presta valves which is what you usually get on bikes yeah so this new one they’ve called The Click valve and it’s designed to be simple and easy enough they say to be used by a kid which is great news because they can pump their own bloody tires up now they but more than that though they’ve said you don’t get any air loss when attaching or detaching the pump head no wear on the pump and 50% higher rate of air flow well I have a very important question to ask you side is it going to get blocked by tubless sealant well that is an important question this day and age isn’t it and the answer is I don’t know they’ve not said anything in their PR bump about it not getting blocked I asked Alex and he said yes it would and I also worry from looking at the design that it is probably still susceptible but let us wait and see show uh it was one of many many new products debuted at eurobike the world’s biggest bike show Alex was there as we mention for GN and you can find three videos over on the GN Tech channel from that eurobike show yeah now we asked Alex what his absolute highlight was and he said retire here you go want to talk about bike tires next not any old tires these are from a brand called re Tire they are 100% recyclable and far better for the environment because they don’t use any Rubber and they’re not vulcanized so it’s using something called a TP which is a a thermoplastic elastoma um so because it doesn’t use Rubber and because it is doesn’t need to be vulcanized there’s a lot less energy demand going into creating the tire and also then because it hasn’t been vulcanized it can be recycled a lot easier again using much less energy making it better for the environment now at the moment they’re really only focused on sort of like tires for children’s bikes but also other sectors like trailers push chairs puggies prams that sort of thing but in the next few years they’re actually going to be moving into the road bike market and sector as well so I’m going to be intrigued to see how this product evolves and hopefully one day might a to see it on my road bike I’m a bit surprised you didn’t talk about the classified and trp collaboration no me too that is exciting I think uh so it’s a new wireless group set which pairs a 12-speed rear derailer cut of trp with the classified two-speed Hub gear to give the potential well either of 24 gears that you use conventionally or a 16-speed sequential shift system sounds good doesn’t it just yeah uh let’s head back to the Tour of France for a moment where the UCI unfortunately has once again come under Fire for its rules and more crucially it’s punishments yeah this is a big one isn’t it so many people enjoyed watching the spectacle of little Tre Rider Julian Bernard initially slowing mid time trial to acknowledge all the fans on his local roads before then stopping to kiss his wife and child which just heartwarming scenes to watch isn’t it and part of the joy I think those sorts of things of watching the Tour of France you would think yes unfortunately though the race jury decided that no this was breaking the rules and quote here damaging the image of the sport and which rule was that Dan I’m surprised you have to ask but since you do 2.2.7 D 8.6 ah that one unseemly or inappropriate behavior do know it resulting in a 200 Swiss frank fine that is the one well Remembered in the end well interestingly Dan rule 2.12 .7- 8.6 actually goes on to say brackets in particular undressing or urinating in public at the start or finish or during the race so it led me to wonder do we actually know that he was fined for kissing his wife and not actually just weeing in public I mean I don’t think he undressed in front of her or no no not that B I know I was making a joke I was about to say all weed on her I think it was for the kissing but I think the UC need to give us some clarification on this either way don’t they well yeah I mean this is it right so he could easily have been doing some inappropriate wi at another point in the day we’re not in a time trial surely well at the start it says or at the I don’t know either way it is an own goal from the UCI the UCI need one of those those signs that you get on the edge of swimming pool saying no petting well I mean it’s not explicit in the rules maybe we need another one 2.2.7 D 8.8 or something well remembered again thanks anyway do you know what struck me when thinking about this over the weekend because I did gave it a bit of thought I said the UCI is a massive organization isn’t it and it’s plagued with what any massive organization is plagued with which is trying to keep everyone every employee everyone associated with it singing from the same him sheet because you can imagine the UCI president David Lear with his head in his hands at this PR disaster because one commiss one commiss out of thousands has got the hump about something that’s very true very true and that one was a bad one all mainstream media everywhere picked up on it from the BBC to Fox News so if the UCI wanted to avoid damaging the image of the sports they rather failed we think on this occasion yeah did you ever get any stupid finds from the UCI uh I think the worst thing I ever did and it’s really not very bad and a bit boring I obscured my race number whilst wearing yeah and I think I got fined like 30 quid for that one I can’t remember any stupid ones that I got personally uh but when I was riding the J of Italia for the first time in 2009 we as what team was that for Tes was about to mention it uh we as a team were joint first in the fair play classification so this is that thanks for coming price well no it’s still to this day a classification at the jro and it’s effectively for the teams that get the fewest fines from the UCI oh yeah so we were locked together with a couple of others on zero fin no we in public no we hav done any of that and then one day deep into the third week my teammate jez hunt signed on at the start but he signed the wrong number anyone that knows jez hunt that’s a very jez hunt thing to do so you signed the wrong number which effec means he didn’t sign his own name they thought he hadn’t signed on for the start and therefore they gave us a fine we missed out a bit of prize money for that no oh jez I know you know I like that 10 years into gcn 11 years into gcn again and we are still getting fresh SLL test team Stories the day you run out will be a sad day well it will be for me because it’ll probably be my last day was it anyway moving on last week was a big week in politics wasn’t it you all know what’s happened we’ll update you on the fate of one politician who we featured a couple of weeks back saying that if you reelected him he would make a point of getting rid bike Lanes despite having been Minister for transport and therefore responsible for among other things bike Lanes yes so sadly Grant shaps wasn’t reelected which I mean I guess it’s another like power of gcn thing isn’t it like it’s extending Beyond cycling now and into politics which I yeah we better be careful I think so I’m not sure whether we’re qualified to talk about anything unless it involves two wheels basically yeah uh right we’ll back to safer ground then uh because it’s time for the weekly where’s L update is as so click on the link to see her whereabouts this week and you can tell in an instance that she’s in Australia not a corner to be seen is there so you can zoom out and zoom out a bit more more again and then find that she went around the bend for the last time about 50ks ago and then she got another Bend or Corner coming up in about 100K time something to look forward to I think isn’t it oh my goodness well maybe she can have a nap if she doesn’t have to turn a corner for 150k yes I mean how many how many how many hours is that it’s probably like 6 hours of riding W that’s like a that’s like aown sleep I cried down that one road that was only 2ks long with a headwind hopefully she’s got a Tailwind oh please L please hopefully she’s got a Tailwind yeah anyway her daily average is still a whopping 176 miles yeah but the weather is pretty chilly and it looks like it’ll get rainy uh which is much like here to be honest you in the middle of summer yes now as you have seen from our video on Saturday she’s got a challenger now hasn’t she vangi kulani setting out yesterday on her round the round the world record attempt so we’ll keep you updated on that as well we will indeed uh now we should maybe get like a jingle like round the world battle going on we haven’t we haven’t had a jingle no the tech show’s got Jingles have we got the budget for that now no no no I mean now hav got budget yeah it’s not pretty right a quick reminder now of our switch bike giveaway so this is your chance to win one of three switch go kicks H as featured on our video from about 10 days ago if you’d like to enter click on the link in the description below fill in your details and answer a question about the go kit entries closed at 10:00 a.m. this Friday British central time and we’ll announce the winners on next week’s show yeah basically you don’t know what we’re talking about uh it’s how to turn virtually any bike into an ebike isn’t it with uh with a powered front wheel it’s super clever bit of kit uh right we will finish cing shorts uh by saying another huge thank you to to all of you who spent your hard-earned money becoming a member of our YouTube channel over the last couple of weeks yeah we we really can’t overate how much it’s meant to us to have that kind of support as we make our way as an independent company again yes so hardw me I mean it genuinely really has actually it really has um not just us out here but but everyone the whole up by um so a quick update though for you um we talked last week about how the fact that you can’t subscribe from an iPhone on the YouTube app so uh we spoke to YouTube uh and apparently there is no short-term fix to Apple mobile devices that currently don’t give you the option to join from underneath video but if you do want to become a member you can of course do so via the desktop uh just to reiterate there’s three tier options of memberships in there the middle and top ones which are the caset and beon offer you access to 50 of the documentaries that were formerly on GCM Plus uh plus other benefits too yeah that’s right and those 50 will will change W they because we had we had more than that um and also an update if you cast your minds back a couple of weeks where we were talking about the custom emojis that you get as a member that’s from any of the three tiers um we weren’t sure whether there was going to be an option of a Daniel Lloyd Emoji specifically D Dan’s face but you guys have spoken after participating in a poll choose one of various Dan faces from Young Dan don’t don’t know why that was there drunk Dan confused Dan and happy Dan and also just normal Dan which I thought was an inter interesting one the same as the drunk one yeah that’s it yeah looking very serious um anyway apparently the one that you have chosen is the happy Dan fantastic well that’s a life goal ticked off for me Isn’t it I’d better send that tooji to Matel jinson hadn’t I I’m sure he’d like use a happy Dan Emoji as his favorite presenter oh very well that is a life goal isn’t it if you can get mat Jo to emo send you an emoji of your own face I think I’ll pay for his membership here just so he can use it hack SL bodge of the week now a reminder you have to head to upload. Global cycling network.com if you would like to contribute to this part of the gcn show there’s a link in the description is there there should be uh even on iOS devices this uh week the first one comes in from Deb K in Queensland who said bought a new bike and the pump cage Mount didn’t fit on the frame the bike had some holes for a small bag got my son to 3D print a small fitting to attach to the pump mount to use those holes works fine and the final Mount is black I think that is cool so do I like super cool I mean I me look at it it’s like a work of art yeah oh yeah ingenious 100% hack generally as soon as you hear 3D printing you say hack uh and when you see a picture like that do we need to describe it for our podcast audience oh I think we should so uh so the two bolts on offer on the frame are much closer together than traditional water bottle bolts so the 3D printed adapter uses those two bolts and then extends further downwards and then rather than being a third bolt it’s just like a little bit of plastic that just sort of seems to gently hook into the pump thing oh what a fantastic description sir the pump thing yeah articulate as always um yeah no that’s that’s a great hack right next one this one comes in from Paul V this belongs in the toilet of any real cyclist or of any self-respecting cycle shop for that matter um and it is a toilet raw holder which is uh a miniature pair of forks attached to uh the head tube of a bike and bolted onto the wall so uh yeah I like that I do like it I wouldn’t have it in my own house no no I definitely wouldn’t but good that the toilet rolls on the right way around though absolutely yeah that’s uh Brian U wrote in say I saw this bike listed on Facebook Marketplace and the shift thing looked rather unique and so what we have here is a road bike with standard old school brake levers that don’t include any shifting and then in the center of the tops there he got old school Shimano was grip shift Shimano or sh’s first ever product what’s this then cuz it says Shimano on it uh it will be Shimano twist shifters yeah seven speed by the look of it I think that’s cool um yeah I mean I don’t think it’s either a hacker or bodge it’s just legit products isn’t it well it is I mean at least when they were on mountain bikes you could still break and shift at the same time whereas on that you got to sort of spit like down tube shifting not quite as bad but no but you know one of the one of the reasons why road bikes and gravel bikes are expensive and certainly there’s a premium over mat bikes is because our shifters or brifters are so expensive as manufacture and interestingly so we’ve got a video coming up very soon with Isa rry um who is an absolute bike industry Legend and genius and she being a like like what smaller person but average sized woman really struggles she said to get on with like normal brifters and so she’s made herself a bite using a pair of swam time trial breake levers on a pair of bar ends mounted to straight handlebars cut down to 35 CM wide yeah and then she’s got Shram Wireless blips on there so she’s got it’s basically she’s like I can’t ride gravel on normal shifters so she’s got this amazing setup super cool so is that mentioned in the video it is yeah absolutely forward to watching that did you ever use grip shift when you were a mountain biker oh of course I did mate yeah I had the first ever grip shift my goodness it was a nightmare to change gear when it was muddy cuz not only did the grit get into the cables the mud got onto the shifter and it was just like trying to change gear was not effortless put it that way palaces on my hand in that ear as well next up Ben rides bikes uh higging both my mind jumped to something else then sorry sometimes in the battle between human versus jar the jar wins I remember as a kid using a rubber grip to open stubborn Lids uh and when I have a lid that refuses to budge I can now take a spare atud to it and hey Presto it opens in no time that is pretty cool I mean like I bet you’re the same we don’t have any problem opening jars like no jar is too stiff for me these days no no I you know anytime any member of my family has a problem opening a jar just hand it to me yeah going get inner tube were I not quite as strong as I am I would look at this and go oh that’s worth remembering um but yeah it looks like quite a posh sauce that bowl and basket m well we’ll give it a hack for both then should we yeah no I like that thanks for sending that one in that’s that’s proper cool um I my technique for stiff jarid is to press down on it and twist yeah that never fails well that combination of strength it’s the jar top has no chance basically yeah it’s a miracle the jar doesn’t Crush anyway one day you’re going to come in just of your hand wrapped up what did you do I just crushed a jar glass went into my hands oh god oh yeah I’m going to go easy on them now um right now last week we randomly included I think by mistake someone’s garage which was neither hack nor B it was just a nice garage anyway you guys didn’t need asking twice we need another new jingle don’t we basically yeah tidy garages MDS or MD sewer said uh tidy garages versus garages brought to mind a couple of photos of my garage um sort of like where’s Waldo counting the bikes um the cars owe their place classic cars due to 40 Years of cycle commuting and that is a very impressive looking garage like I not you missed this bit out side but it says this was taken a few years ago I can only imagine how untidy this garage is now yeah and what I’m most impressed about is not just the collection of bikes but the collection of memorabilia every surface has got something attached to it whether it’s like stickers or posters or I don’t know beer mats or something that’s amazing that’s cool is fantastic yeah and next up this came in from Simon hok who put hi Dan Simon hok from wbor not Winborn which is near me wbor is a place apparently uh I’ve already sent you some pictures of my Chapel of pain so here’s my story raise zift inside the chapel for eight winter months of the year where I’m stuck inide racing in the chapel which is built in his back Garden apparently well a you so you’ve built your own Chapel complet with uh quite a lot of crosses on bits of furniture and uh and you you use it to zift in this I mean this is an alternative to a garage I suppose isn’t it I guess it’s a pretty decent alternative yeah is it consecrated that’s what I would like to know oh I’m sure we’ll find out Simon right in and let us know um Simon did also uh suggest that if Jesus rode road bikes he would choose a cell S5 which God is wondering what road bike Jesus would choose H what would Satan use uh suggested that he’d ride a incumbent I don’t know I mean I think this get this fears into another topic that’s we’re not qualified to talk about but uh anyway I thought he’d ride a fixie basically not a steel handbuilt fixie nice and simple like that’s where I’m going with it uh well if you’ve got any hacks or budges to send into us or indeed some tidy garages and or Chapel upload. Global Cy network.com basically yeah it’s just Open Season Now isn’t it just send us whatever you like it’s time now for caption competition that part of the show where you get a chance to get your hands on a coveted gcn Camel Back water bottle not one of our Limited Edition July specials we got any knocking around not in here they’ve all gone walk about they’re like they’re in serious demand those ones so get over to the gcn shop quick if you want one but anyway the original the OG still a thing of beauty to get your hands on one all you got to do is put a witty caption in the comments section down below we will start as always with the results from last week you got this picture T Pacha uh for those of you listening this is a photo of today pagat I think it was on sort of stage three or four of the Tour of France just stopping at the side of the road to answer a cool of nature as we commentators like to say uh we have a genius comment from the winner this week which is Ali who may won uh good to see streaming back on gcn I mean simple but very funny I like that I mean that that’s like yeah proper proper LOLs that um right get in touch Ally and uh and we will get your gcn water bottle out to you this week’s photo for all of those disappointed people that didn’t win is this one of yonas vineo looking up looking skywards yes he is uh Dan have you got anything uh I will kick us off yes yonas vinegar in awe as he meets Connor dun for the first time oh that’s is good I like that very much um I mean I think that’s probably what he would look like he’s not a all lad is he vle he’s not no no he’s not I did uh yeah I M him didn’t I in January that um zwift race if you want to call it that with him except because of myself and no he’s not particularly tall but he also didn’t have to get out of his recovery zone in order to beat you his I mean he is quite good so like no after his crash in April did offer to have a rematch as long as it was within a week he said no anyway leave your captions in the comment section down below we’ll pick a winner next week I’m just laughing at how tasteless brilant I mean that was a joke obviously I didn’t text him no I but I just Clarity quite funny if you had some comments from last week’s videos now before we let you know what’s coming up on GN this week uh starting with the GN show from a week ago this came in from Chris Cole 4149 I enjoy even quiet and slow bit of the 5 hour tour of front stage because I can enjoy seeing the countryside and special topics that pop up in Regional areas or towns it’s a change to learn about hometowns for cyclist or museums dedicated to cycling I mean that is cool I like the fact that you can do that Chris I can’t help but think that if you had 5 hours to research like rural France you probably get a bit more insight and info than the comment the comment yeah quite possibly but having said that if you’ve got five hours to spend and you enjoy it then that’s absolutely brilliant crack on uh Dao Nero said asking if the tour should or shouldn’t have long boring stages is like asking if the 24 hours of leemon needs to be 24 hours does it need to be de reckon well I mean there are some people who say that it gets a little bit D yeah I suppose the trouble is like well maybe it is the same thing you tune into lemon nothing happens you can’t work out what on Earth’s going on yeah just like you might tune into what sort of France and think what 24 minutes of lar sounds a bit more alluring to me that would be fast and furious wouldn’t it yeah Ole Elie for anyone wondering about jenson’s worst day story it wasn’t a 170k stage and it wasn’t 4,000 met of climbing it’s actually 212k and 4,700 M of climbing the winner took nearly 6 hours and my T was only 27 minutes behind that so not bad having given the pel on a 15minute head start that day I like the fact Ole that you have said that mat Jorgenson’s worst down on the park is not the worst day that he said it was it’s even worse than that yeah oh no Matel you can’t remember it correctly I know um but still that does sound utterly horrific doesn’t it um underneath the whats on your wahoo video genis Conrad said uh the first guy tracks his oh God I think he’s he’s laughing at the fact that John deo’s head unit is in German so the first guy tracks his F oh my God is that a lap this Bing Runar is something tour isn’t it I think it must be oh my God uh John punon 3896 loyally raced with bik computers this is what I claimed on that very same video so he’s not that old and then we had a reply from A1 white saying it’s probably one of those little wide things with zip ties and magets on the wheels it’s to be fair Dan you were one of the very first people to use a Garmin with a map function well I think I was probably the first pro cyclist to actually bother to create my own GPS maps on bik rout toaster. comom at the time and put them into my garment so I could see where we were going and where the changes of Direction were fair play what ever happened to bike root toaster well I think likes of you know Garmin and straa took over from bike root to toaster what could have been for bike route toaster that’s one of those like yeah they’ll be kicking themselves w’t they but answer I did have an old Sigma with y’s and a magnet on the wheel as well yeah before that yeah yeah we too anyway shiman neutral service FD on Friday that was a that was a good one Dan um goodness me I’m not even going to attempt that uh username zigg the caca Kaki kistr there we go you just shout off there mate I read it earlier practice anyway uh they say having worked as a neutral service mechanic for about 20 years on and off your only ever second choice Riders always look for their team car first and you quite often get blamed for not having the exact correct thing they need at exactly the moment they need it but sometimes you receive the gratitude that makes the job worth doing I’ve been sworn out and had things thrown at me by wound up primadonnas of both sexes they get slow wheel changes Ever After for these sorts dummy spits but also bottles of champagne cakes gift bags and team kit given to me by grateful Riders who I’ve helped to a better finish than they expected it’s a funny little niche in the cycling world it is and hats off to you you want to have another crack at the uh username uh zigm the caca kistr yeah so hats off to you uh for 20 years of being neutral service that’s super cool it is very cool yes I I like the thought that when we see a rider getting a slow wheel change it might not be the fault of the neutral service mechanic it might just have been that that rid has previously thrown a hissy fit at something or other well yeah anyway from the weekend’s video can’s women break the around the world record Simon and rake Jones but that is a great story and man’s a great interviewer I like that she is asking questions and listening seems obvious but not everybody does what’s that me yeah I think that was Simon mandre Jones by I didn’t read that one earlier much chance I’ll get you back um and then Ireland midfielder said what a compelling human being thank you gcn for bringing this to us um so yeah keep your keep your eyes peeled as we said um she should have set off yesterday as you’re watching this but given yesterday is actually today as we’re filming it we don’t know yet but uh but yeah that was the scheduled start time wasn’t it the 8th of July and just finally under the Tour of France breakfast challenge with Hank and the bodybuilder the giant the giant um you’ll like these comments Z I’ve just added them in a few minutes ago first up bro but don’t know why Hank feels like the most relatable of all the presenters also these two are great together need to see that hill climb video and there was a reply from SFS Omega who but I love the whole crew but my favorite is a Connor and Manon ah actually this has not been a good show isn’t it so reminding us that Mato Jorgenson likes you oh yes I have got that yeah and then yeah Conor man on and Hank there okay that’s fine mate you bridgy yeah well you know like we like each other so that’s um yeah right go on then what’s coming up on gcn this week uh on Wednesday which will be tomorrow if you’re watching this video on the day it comes out it’s what sry don’t make these training mistakes on Thursday we’re going to tell you all about the importance of hydration indeed we are uh on Friday 10 things that you should copy from Tor France Pros that’ll be interesting that would it and gravel yeah and then on Saturday I mentioned um that video with Isa Round Tree um so I mean it’s it’s not overstating things to say that she has literally changed cycling for millions of people okay if you’re wondering how then you need to watch that video okay so we explain all and then on Sunday it is Hank versus the Tour of France so we were talking earlier weren we about The Descent of the gbia and how pivotal it was this year um we we know everyone stra times down there so Hank is out there this week he is going to give it go to see how a mortal albeit a good descend there compares to the tour to France Pros so uh so yeah that’s going to be super interesting to see how fast a uh a fast normal person can go down compared to those guys um I look forward to watching that you are at home as well that’s the end of this week’s GN show though but we’ll be back this time next week yeah I hope all of you who’ve been foam rollering for the last 30 plus minutes have a very Supple IT bands uh and yeah we’ll catch you next week

    1. In the UCI’s zeal to punish those who damage the image of the sport, all they’ve accomplished is to damage the image of the sport.

    2. Cycled up from the other side on the Galibier stage day. Watched all the legends blitz by the last 50 metres of the climb and disappear over the lip on the way back down to Valloire. After the sweep bus passed us I then attempted to descend as quickly as possible through crowd walkers, random team cars and other cyclists. My Strava tells me I was 7 minutes slower than Pogacar 😂 (although I did carry on down to St Michel de Maurienne). Pog for the win! Also, love GCN (always have, always will). Thanks @highplainszwifter

    3. I think the UCI should fined for bringing cycling into disrepute after fining Julien Bernard during the TDF time trial. They did far more damage to the sport's reputation than this heartwarming incident! How often does a rider get to ride through their home region during a race?

    4. As much as I loved the gravel stage in terms of entertainment, for me it doesn't belong because of the increased element of luck, what if Pogacar punctured and lost 5 minutes? Dramatic yes but would have made the rest of the tour far less interesting instead.

    5. The monotonous drivel of this channel is like the tour which is getting boring. Gravel stages it’s not 1910 we have proper roads now leave the gravel to the weekend dimwits. Fast times = better drugs bottom line

    6. Why don't TV commentators talk more about the team sponsors during the long sprint stages were nothing else is happening? It would be good for sponsors, give commentators something to talk about and give the audience some knowledge of the bike team backers.
