dang Vietnam offers an extremely affordable cost of living compared to other major cities this rapidly developing City provides access to beautiful beaches a Scenic Riverside nearby mountains and it’s only a 45-minute drive south to hoan Vietnam’s most popular tourist destination perhaps best of all Danang is very affordable for expats Nomads and retirees living cost for an expat renting long-term can start around $880 per month while a digital Nomad in a short-term rental can expect to pay around $1,180 per month Dan Ashley an expat who made dang his home views the city’s rapid development as a sign of opportunity and potential Dan and his wife have opened several restaurants here and he’ll share insights into the local food scene cost of living and provide a tour of his [Music] neighborhood so I’m here with my friend Dan we just met last week correct he’s the owner of Bikini Bottom Express which is a great restaurant it’s really probably my favorite restaurant in this whole area if you’re going for Western food this is the place you got to try and Dan you live near this area and decided to make a business here what do you like about this neighborhood this area is is considered expat um area so we’re in anung which is in man mostly an xat area there’s a lot of life going on here a lot of n life a lot of different um people owning businesses from all over the world as well as obviously Vietnamese locals as well and it seems to have just just got a nice feeling about it and what is the cost in this area if somebody’s trying to rent a oneyear lease on an apartment on an apartment really varies so if you’re looking at a studio you can get anything from lower end like 4 million so maybe like $120 $130 a month um anything up to $2,000 a month um really varies in terms of your cost um you can get some beautiful apartments for very expensive on the beach um but then a standard I would say you’re probably looking around so 300 bucks maybe for a nice a nice comfortable apartment so $300 will get you a decent studio yes and maybe a little more for a one bedroom uh yeah maybe a little bit more maybe 350 400 something on that depends what you’re looking for I’m renting just a hotel room that’s 122 or $14 a night and it’s nice it’s surprising yeah it’s a really good hotel close by it’s incredible and uh what is the vibe of this neighborhood um this has always been the sort of walking street that the government’s idea for the last about seven years ago so this used to be look completely different than used to have this Paving Stone and all the nice parts that you see now but it seems to be where dang has one of the heaviest walking traffics this place really comes alive at night as well mhm and then as seasonal also is that correct um fairly fairly um it’s starting to get more steady it definitely um has been seasonal after Co now it’s starting to get more steady over time obviously the summer being the most busy but obviously people struggle with the weather sometimes being so hot getting sort of 43° um max uh-huh but this weather right now is pretty Prime comfortable comfortable so I would say right now you don’t even hardly sweat no not at all not at all and I want in um in summer I probably change clothes about four times a day so and then what about food cost here I think dollar value you can get some incredible street food I mean street food is is beautiful here it’s amazing you could eat very comfortably for $150 per meal maybe $2 if you’re going they call it Dak beit which is special oh yeah like they have special versions of the food a little bit more fancy uh alternatively if you’re looking more Western they could be a little bit more expensive because of imported ingredients even though you’re looking around for $4 $5 um whatever it might so like at your restaurant you can get a Huda beer double cheeseburger imported Australian beef and Fries what’s the cost um so that’s about $5 around five maybe $6 so the Huda beer is less than a dollar and it’s not bad no yeah it’s pretty good it’s very good what are the other costs that somebody might have to consider here Visa transportation Visa at the moment I believe you can get a 3mon Visa it’s around $50 $60 um which is not too bad it used to be a one month Visa but they since changed it are the cast bike rental so we actually have the two main bike rentals down here okay go have a look and you can it’s actually a really good gauge for business so you know that if these guys don’t have many bikes in in their shop you know it’s going to be busy and if they have loads of bikes you know it’s going to be quiet um so bike rental can be anything you can do anything from a million up to I would say 3 million for a newer bike maybe a little bit um higher on the CC range um for a month for a month yeah yeah for a month these are normally 120 a day so that’s about what $5 $6 a day yeah um but on a month you can obviously get it a lot cheaper as well right the beautiful thing about dang in particular I find anyway is that there’s a very low barrier for entry when it comes to business so you can set up a business for a lot less than you would set up in the US or the UK for example so it kind of allows for a bit ctivity as well um people don’t how to put hundreds and hundreds and thousands of dollars into a business to give it a try there’s some incredible chefs over here with Incredible track records you you you can basically make your passion come to life uh a a lot less exp so are you seeing a lot of change with people coming here and doing businesses or working online and um there’s a lot of teachers so mostly mostly as a teaching Community I would say but also you’ve got a a big xat Community working online whether it’s freelance um web design um coding um whatever it might be after Co the world changed in that aspect so it opens up the doors for people to work from wherever in the world which is kind of nice what were the other costs we were kind of talking about surfboard rental if you want to get yeah how much is a surf for adrenal something on 100K an hour something that’s like $4 $4 an hour um how far is your wife’s place um so wife’s place about 5 minutes walk down this way do we want to walk there yeah yeah my wife’s restaurant so you got Vietnam which is Vietnamese food um a lot of traditional food but also bringing back food that has been lost by time as well okay um and also mixture with rainbow which is for and poke and um juice from a quiet place okay and whose place is this this is my wife’s my wife Dan and she’s got a little bit of a passion for what um so my wife has always had a passion for Vietnamese food but also a passion for helping people as well so um a lot of the guys that work here um can’t um speak or um can’t hear either so a lot of sign language is used here it’s the most beautiful thing as well cuz a lot of people who can speak the work also learn sign language so it’s pretty cool that’s cool let’s take a look at what they have here I like Pokey so Hawaiian poke you got the surfboard theme going on hello you can see everybody in here right now is working yeah yeah it seems to be the hub for working now it’s cool as well let’s look at the menu and you can tell me a little bit about it so it’s styled in like a old school sort of Vietnamese map um so it shows you where um in Vietnam these dishes are from so you’ve got um Vietnam which is all the Vietnamese food like amazing amazing Vietnamese food I Lally eat here every day um and then mixture of Pokey as well but a lot of this menu is bringing back old school dishes or doing like Fusion twists and prices what are the range of prices here so so here so Mong Trum um 80 so you probably looking about $3 yeah about $3 for the for a signature dish um and then you can go anywhere up to obviously 280 where you got the barbecue por cribs which stilling barbecue as well uhhuh uh M chai M thank you thank you all right so tell me what we got here so this is H walk fried beef mang um so this is traditionally served with a broth um the mwang is actually the noodle itself um so this is um yeah walk fried almost like a drunken noodle when sense so the price on this is 90 I believe okay 90 this is Ban Hoy with the direct translation is question cake so the ban Hoy aspect is actually the rice noodles that you see here it’s almost like a spider web of rice noodles then rolled up and then we’ve got um sundri uh P belly as well nice so this part is the ban Hoy so this is basically like rice noodles that is then pressed it almost looks like a web a spider web of of rice noodles but really good then you dip it um directly into the fish Sals got a bit of chili in there a little bit of garlic with um with some nice pork as well some pork this is a bunow taco traditionally bunau is served as a fold over um pancake in a sense I think direct translation is pancake um turmeric based um but with a this one’s with a fusion twist obviously turning into a super crispy um taco shell so this is a little more Fusion a little bit more Fusion yeah it’s definitely not entirely traditional but it’s using traditional ingredients oh my god oh all right we had two one each dining blends mod humidities and traditional charm the miles of Coastline invite Beach lovers while the nearby mountains offer a refreshing retreat with spectacular views along the Riverside one can enjoy Vietnamese and international cuisine at restaurants and cafes or take an evening stroll admiring the illuminated Bridges and Danang is very affordable here are some more cost examples a single person’s estimated monthly expenses are approximately $470 without rent a one-bedroom apartment in the city center will cost around $350 and utilities will be around $60 a domestic beer at a bar is around $120 a cappuccino is about a165 a dozen eggs a164 a fitness club monthly membership about $27 a mobile phone monthly plan plan with data $5.90 a home internet package about $8.7 overall dang enables a comfortable lifestyle at a very affordable price it’s really been growing since the pandemic a lot a lot yeah it started off really slow because obviously Vietnam was slow to open um but um yeah now it’s come alive these are actually two of my friends over here so I have eaten at adobo you said that’s one of your friends yes correct Kevin runs that place really good uh this is some of the best Mexican food that I’ve had in Asia nice so I can recommend that and there’s a lot of massage places how much is a massage usually um really depends so I think a fair price for a massage is probably about $8 the more touristy places you’re probably looking about 20 there an amazing um place all the people that work there are uh blind I would normally go there that’s about $10 and it’s amazing place so this is our little place here as well so this is the like host so what are the prices at the hostel can you tell me um so the price of the hostel so for a dorm bed you’re looking at around $6 to $7 private room more along the lines of about 16 so you got private rooms all along the front the balconies oh private rooms with balconies for around $16 in terms of health care daang has both public and private Hospital Systems many expats prefer the private hospitals for higher quality care and shorter weight times medical services are generally less expensive than in many other countries and the quality of care at the large private hospitals is highly rated by International standards the best times to visit are March through May and September through October when the weather is warm and dry the rainy season from November to February brings frequent downpours and overcast Skies prompting some Nomads to depart during these months for transportation oon is about 30 km or 19 Mi south of dang a private car or taxi cost $15 to $20 for the 45 to 60-minute drive while a grab motorcycle taxi is around $5 I’m using the grab app right now the grab app is nice because it tracks the car and I can see which direction it’s coming from and the license plate number so it’s easy to identify the public bus number one departs every 20 minutes for about a dollar and takes 90 [Music] minutes hoon is a UNESCO world heritage site and the town’s architecture reflects Chinese Japanese and French influences popular activ activities include biking through the picturesque Countryside surrounding the town taking a relaxing Sunset Cruise along the river and exploring the vibrant cafes 1. Are you positive about September to October being one of the best times to visit weather wise? Everything I've seen says it isn't a good time to go.

  2. I'm not sure I understand how bad the climate is, especially in the summer, and to what extent it would wear out your typical older expat or tourist. Could the subject of weather be elaborated on, and compared to other places in Southeast Asia?? Most of us, at least older more settled folks, don't relish the idea of living in a sauna and being confined to air conditioning for months on end. I wish some Youtubers could spend as much time on this issue as they do on talking about food!

  3. What you do not show is the apartments are rubbish,in blocks with 20 plus other rooms, people stamping on ceilings slamming doors all day and night.then you have the bars and karaoke all night.worst place to live apart from the food and drink

  4. I will arrive in Vietnam in septembre (2024) for 9 months (for beginning). Following my researches, DaNang could be the place I want put down my luggages.

  5. I have visited Da Nang several times over the years and was there just 10 days ago. Hot and humid as always this time of year (37c /100f). And compared to the last time I visited there was lots of closed shops and way more touts trying to sell you stuff so the city hasnt recoved yet from covid.

Dont get me wrong I really like DN, but it isnt as clean and chill as this video portrait it to be (it was filmed more or less on just two touristy streets) so visit for at least a week or two before you decide to stay long term.

  6. I LOVE the fact that they hired deaf people to give them an opportunity! I plan to be in Da Nang next month and will come by for something to eat because I want to support a place like this!

  7. Đà Nẵng sẽ được duyệt làm thành phố thí điểm cho tự do thương mại trong thời gian tới. Cho nên đây cũng là cơ hội cho những người muốn khởi nghiệp.

  8. Sounds great and Vietnam is all he says, only one problem unless you're an ethnic Vietnamese you can't live there. You get one month or three month visas no extension. Of course you can visit and do all those things but at the end of your visa, you must leave. Ah but you can just come back in, treat it as a visa run. Until they decide not to let you back in and I've seen this happen…… everytime you do a visa run they've got you on their computer and can refuse you entry at the border if you're coming by bus or refuse entry at the airport and put you back on the plane .

  9. Such an informative video! The Vietnom (Vietnam Eatery) menu offers an amazing variety of delicious food dishes. However, I strongly recommend the Vietnam's map on the Vietnom menu include Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes, which are an integral part of Vietnam's territory according to the Law of the Sea Treaty UNCLOS 1982.

  10. very informative. was in da nang last year and didn't visit this area will do next time. it really cool and great that his wife support and respect the community and people with disability there by hiring them. his price at his place is very affordable bc most foreign own place price is so much higher compared to local vendors.

  11. Anybody knows how a potential pandemic would look like as a tourist staying for 3-12 months? Just thinking since it is still a communist country if we would be forced to vacinate or something or can leave?

  12. I am Vietnamese-Canadian and went to Da-Nang 3 times in the last 5 years for family business. Unfortunately I stayed with family and never had a chance to visit the city. I will be sure to do that during my next trip over there, and explore the opportunities and regulation to retire in my ancestral province. Thanks for a very informative video.
