    EPISODE 2!

We are thrilled to have purchased an apartment in our favourite city on the French Riviera, Cannes! ๐Ÿคฉ However, this property came with an unexpected challenge: the previous owner is still here! As it turns out, heโ€™s a severe hoarder living in uninhabitable conditions.

Having previously visited and packed boxes bit by bit, itโ€™s now time to tackle the kitchen. This room is in a horrifying state, filled with countless empty jars, bottles, dirt, and grime. Join us as we endeavour to help a hoarder and finally reclaim our property.

Watch our journey as we take on this daunting task!

    __________________________________________

[Music] and today today is going to be a difficult day [Music] so what a sticky [Music] situation he’s been hoarding um empty carrier bags empty bread packets empty [Music] jars you know we’re we’re trying to do good here and do the right way the humane way yeah and today today is going to be a difficult day so update on our like new home situation today we’ve scheduled to go back to the property um I am going to guess that nothing has been done since we last left in terms of like packing up organization clearing space the guy I don’t think he like he obviously finds it all such a huge struggle and I’ve like noticed in in some of his habits that he does and I think he’s got like OCD maybe agobia is a [Music] hoarder like yeah there’s a lot going on and honestly I really do feel for the guy like best situation for me for all of us would be I would love honestly I would Buzz so much if we could just help this guy get all his things sorted out I think he’s holding on to so much like trauma with this property A lot’s happened there he’s been there a lot of years I think he like nursed his mom for 12 years and then obviously lost his mom and I don’t like through some of his stuff that we’ve already helped him pack up you can see that he had a life like he was into cycling he had Hobbies like he probably had a very normal outgoing good life and it’s just really sad to see how this situation could literally happen to any one of us he’s obviously not got a great support network around him I don’t think he’s got siblings so the best case scenario for us would be to help him like I am willing to give him so much time and energy I honestly don’t care if I was to know it’s going to get him in a good place because he could turn his life around and he’s got so much life left to live um is just fell into these habits and not being able to get out of them and I don’t think he ever will get out of them being in that property where all the memories are the things that we were cleaning the other day had not been touched in literally over 12 years because I was picking stuff off off the floor like that you could see belonged to his mom and they’ just been like left there on the floor in the same place for 12 years so sad and as I was like picking things up like I was really really trying to help but be respectful at the same time like respectful but also quite forceful because otherwise you’re not going to get anywhere um so you know I like set a bin bag up and then I also set a box up I add gloves on to be really respectful cuz I don’t think he likes like people touching his stuff like a germ thing even though he lives in like such a messy way I still think he’s got this this thing about germs like OCD doesn’t always mean like super clinical space and clean it’s just obsessive compulsive disorder and I do believe that that’s what he’s got so I was trying to like be respectful and keep the gloves on and pick his things up and say bin or box and honestly he didn’t want to get rid of anything and when I say anything like I would pick up a dirty piece of tissue off the floor that was just covered in muck and dust and put it in the bin naturally without asking but he would literally be taking it out the bin and looking at this piece of tissue it’s been hard um so yeah I was trying to sort out we did get two bin bags full that was literally just rubbish and then I had some like cleaning wipes and I was cleaning his things as we were going which were thick with dust by the way um and then putting them in the storage boxes boxing them up and after 20 minutes so so of doing that I do feel like he he got into it and he lifted a little bit and then I sensed the vibe when it was too much and I was like okay that’s enough for today that’s enough for today so today we’re going back um like I said I don’t think anything further will have been done I’ll be completely shocked if it has been but we need to get going with clearing the stuff out moving the boxes because we have to start the renovation work on Wednesday we are also in a situation where we’ve got to leave this property we’re paying extortionate rent on this property for what it is actually and we’ve bought a property to live in we can’t do both we’ve got a family we we’ve got needs we’ve got to be in there and if we don’t start these Renovations that’s going to hold us back and cause huge problems for us like our children are starting school near this property in September we can’t literally get them there if we stayed here because the drive is just far too long in the morning with the traffic like we’ve got needs too so I would love to just help this guy get him moved out like I’m happy to even help him like set up in his new home and I would literally go and help him get in a routine like that’s how much I actually care about the guy it’s not just for us and making sure we get in there like I would love to think that that guy can turn his life around and just like live again that would be so fulfilling for me because it’s really really sad really sad so ideal progress today we haven’t touched the kitchen yet and the kitchen is the room that I fear the most because he always keeps the door shut and I had a little Glimpse and it’s horrendous it’s really bad to the point where I think there’s going to be things living in that kitchen um yeah we’ll see how we get on feel like we need full white suits to go in there but then I don’t want to be disrespectful to him but [Music] hello hello how are you it’s good I I I tell you I tell you next days I tell you I tell you tomorrow I tell you okay tomorrow doesn’t make any difference you can look I haven’t said you need to go on Wednesday and be out of the house you can be here it’s just so that we are going to start building work yeah all right take a long there is no time we’ve run out of time tell I tell you next days I tell you hold going I take a light on light open just just all down just B get the window open yeah no just the bottom we have Builders come in on Wednesday you want to keep the bottles don’t you I understand you don’t want the bottles going in the bin cuz you’re collecting the bottles I understand you want to keep yes you want to keep I understand that’s okay may take you long all this I Take Along no problem get a box it’s good do it take long take it then we’re running out of time H like I know it’s stressful but we don’t have time anymore so we have to move all right you understand we’ve gave you three months we’ve given you three months three months to do this and you’ve not lifted a finger but that’s fine it’s no problem we can help you want to keep no problem we’ve just got to get it done because two days hey they’re brand new what you got that for look brand new then yeah I’m sure you bought them with good intentions right okay C on C on 2020 what about this I don’t know if there hot water you know no probably not why no gas no gas I think you canow one right I’ll just this outside look at that two bags of rubbish well done this is good progress okay carton you are not going to eat that much pasta okay you’ve got pasta everywhere bags look lots of bugs put it in the Box Box on me books on my leg these are all empty empty okay yeah yeah Bo come on they’re empty you don’t need them okay yeah yeah how many look so many there’s more half the stuff that you’re keeping you cannot eat it is expired and contaminated it will make you ill no no just P Bell P Bell yeah it’s the who play it’s for me it’s for me teacup when you next have your te party that’s gots on it bugs everywhere silver fish what silver fish I thought they are why yeah don’t touch it with your hand no not your hands h just brush it with the thing with the brush that is not good don’t not your hands not your hands you want some GL [Music] the [Music] okay so we spent 2 hours 2 hours there today probably in fact definitely the um hardest one yet for me that was because of the kitchen like I predicted um there was a lot of bugs in there it was really really difficult no mice though no mice I thought they might be nice I did I were waiting for one to crop up maybe when you move the um units yeah maybe um I don’t feel bad about starting the construction because the living situation that he already been living in I think the construction work will probably be more cleanly to be honest I don’t know how he’s been preparing food in that kitchen he’s got like that know a plate I know but how has he not got ill I don’t know um he’s very stubborn to begin with um so you have to be kind polite but then just put the force in place and then just start doing and once you get into it it’s almost like he enjoys it yeah is it weirdly yeah weirdly like it’ll put up so many doesn’t put up a fight obviously but he really really tries you know to stop you getting on with it and then we like look you know we need somewhere to live we have got to move forward there is no time left we’ve G you months and once we start doing it I would say 20 minutes after getting into it he starts helping slightly he he’s he like kind of enjoys it he gets the task and he starts putting either things in a box or things in a bag in the bin now he’s been hoarding um empty carrier bags empty bread packets empty jars uh even olive oil bottles he been hoarding these for years there were so so many but now I think he’s understood that the empty ones have to go in the bin so now we actually does put empty ones into the bin which is huge progress oh yeah I think um but we did about four bin bags today maybe five we’re in the small car so we couldn’t put them in the back of the van so I’m we’ve put him near the front gate so now I’m just really really hoping that he doesn’t delve back into those bin bags and just undo all our progress and praying he won’t honestly I do think he’ll be having a peek in them bags if he sees something he wants H he will yeah he get that out but he won’t take the bag back up it’s the heavy for a start and um look we made progress um I said to him you know on Wednesday it’s not going to be nice situation it’s going to be very overwhelming for you but I’ll be there to help and we’ll just see how Wednesday goes we’ve got a skip com in with we’ve had authorization of the um Property Management because it’s like in a domain um they’ve G Us full authorization to go ahead so we’ll be filling the Skip and starting the demolition please keep in mind that we’ve gave this guy I mean he’s have years notice up until like eviction uh up until we purchased the property and then we purchased the property in February we’re now in June so we’ve just got to keep pushing forward um as much as we can well that’s the update and you know what I I am just conscious now and itchy I can’t wait to get home and have a hot shower oh yeah it were full of silver fish in there that creeped me out that were the worst bit for me it really were yeah that was hard and that rug that he wanted to keep yeah we picked a rug up off the floor been there years and years it was it been there that bugs were eating it it was cing with bugs but he insisted on keeping this vog and we have to put the vog in the Box sir oh no honestly what a sticky situation nothing good comes easy eh I think this is our tough anybody else who would have won this property would have not helped in the way that we’re helping they would have just got someone in aggressive I I think or just gone through the eviction process which turns out being aggressive and you know we’re we’re trying to do good here and do the right way the humane way yeah

    1. I would hire professionals who deal with hoarders and remove their stuff.
They have them here in California.
      Itโ€™s about $2500 a day.

    2. Wow Fern- make sure you get some sort of spray onto those Silverfish. They will get into everything if you don't. You are braver than me tackling that putrid mess. I was dry heaving just watching the video and I would have had to wear a mask. You achieved a huge amount in two hours. Both you and Ryan have been very kind to him. Does he actually have somewhere to go? I hope so but if he hasn't packed up in 3 months I am worried he has not organized alternative accommodation.

    3. Well that video sped by. The tenant probably has a serious underlying condition like autism, and the OCD has stuck because he is isolated. Just drop him off at his new place and deliver his treasures later.

    4. Hi Fern , just want to say this ….I hope this video reaches so many people out there infact it deserves an award ….. (I can't stop crying ) Your kindness speaks volumes towards this gent you & Ryan are truly two incredible individuals you have shown so much love respect & understanding allowing him time & working alongside him getting him to help in some way , I'm sure it has been very tuff going at times it's your new home & you want to get things started on it …. I hope pretty soon he is settled in his new home God love him ….this video is very powerful it is a lesson to all of us to be more ….and as Ryan said " in a humane way" Thank You both God Bless Always โค๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆโค

    5. This was so difficult to watch. Thank you for helping him. You are both kind, compassionate, and helpful to this person who obviously needs psychological help. You did not have to do this, but this proves to me that there are still some good human beings out there. Much love to both of youโค

    6. Honestly I admire you guys for trying this, but itโ€™s not going to work without getting a professional involved. I have owned property and had a situation like this. Not to mention the EXTREME HEALTH RISK until this place is cleared out, mold, mice droppings etc. please, please, protect yourself, or you could be putting your health at risk long term. You have to protect yourself, your health your childrenโ€™s health FIRST. And by all means wear a hazmat mask u til it is all cleaned out. Learn from my mistakes. I was sick for over a year from what I was exposed to.

    7. Great job guys!!! So compassionate yet firm in the right way. This cannot be easy I know! But the finished product will bring such rewards!!! Keep up the great work!!! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿฉต

    8. Oh Fern… you guys are being so patient with this poor man. Much respect to you & Ryan. I couldn't handle getting in there & going through the trash. I feel like I need a shower just after watching this episode!! I am sure all your hard work will pay off. I hope the man can get help & get his life together. Hard situation.

    9. All his symptoms are trauma responses. So glad you are helping him. โค Thank you. You have shown yourselves to be truly beautiful compassionate people in your care and understanding of him.

    10. I've helped clean a friend's place who is a hoarder, and we had to get him away for a week and get 4 big skips that we filled. That was 5 years ago, and his house is now worse than ever. You will have to get help to get him out otherwise he won't go.

    11. I think it's a blessing that the man speaks and understands English as this situation could have been much worse through lack of communication.

    12. Fern you and Ryan are so patient, kind but firm. We are an Australian couple who have an apartment in Dijon, which we visit twice a hear. We have noticed how socially aware and kind French people ( and you 2) are to the homeless and people in distress. People make meals and deliver them around Dijon. Boulangerie โ€˜s provide free croissants and coffee to these people.

    13. Horrible situation .. poor man. He needs professional help . Where is he going ? Who is going to help him find accomodation and move him etc ? There was a disconnect for me, between the opening compassion and then the harsh reality however I understand your very difficult dilemna . Obviously he should have vacated upon sale and cannot live amongst a full blown renovation site . He is an eldeely man who desperarely needs help..My brother was a hoarder .. no matter how much I helped him he always reverted back to living the same way. Horading is a deep seated mental health issue . I hope he finds peace and you are able to move forward in good conscience.

    14. Bless you guys for being so kind and helpful in such a difficult sad situation that you have stumbled across – I suspect he is also just lonely and needing a hand to get motivated and sorted out xxx๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’•

    15. Wow well done both of you for helping, thereโ€™s not many people who would take the time you have. Takes a lot of patience! Will all be worth it in the end! ๐Ÿค

    16. Wow. Itโ€™s so sad that this man didnโ€™t have any help for all those years and has gotten to this point. You are very kind to let him stay while you own the home. I know here in the US once there is a closing on a house previous owners and all their things must be gone. Our owners asked for an extension to stay after the closing as their place wouldnโ€™t be ready for two weeks. Our realtors had to draw up a rental agreement they had to sign for those two weeks in case they damaged the house while we owned it. Home owner insurance here is very strict.

    17. Wow!! You are both so lovely (and brave) to help clean out this place. Itโ€™s sad he doesnโ€™t have family to help. Best of luck. I know it will be all worth it when you are in your beautiful new home. โค

    18. Wow!Fern & Ryan this is a sad situation..You are such a good people to try to help him . This is tricky. You must be firm. Firm is kind. It's a quantum leap, once he sees the change, hopefully. It is an visual nightmare. This is an emotional experience. Mind blowing squalor! I love the fast forward segment. Your showers must have felt so good.!

    19. Thank you for your kindness. In a world where living sincerely and empathetically appears to be non-existent; we have the both of you. Wishing you blessings and support on this journey – you can never be wrong or criticized for doing what your heart has told you to do. Continue to shine your light๐Ÿ’•

    20. I really hope this gentleman got access to care as now he is also homeless after having suffered enormous loss. Ugh canโ€™t watch this. He is really at risk having found himself in this situation. Iโ€™m shocked they bought this place from under this poor man.

    21. You are very, very kind. But please do read the warnings about letting him stay there and then being legally unable to remove him at a later date.
