My route starts in Santander on the 21st august and I’ve got essentially an unlimited amount of time to do the said route. My only quarrel of the tour, is the mountains in the south of France; the highest point of elevation would be 6000ft. Can anyone tell me how that would be (in terms of weather and temperature) towards the end of September?

I would recommend you to take (a Part) of the Lot-Valley bicycle Route. Nice landscape and you have some signs which makes the navigation more easy.

You’d be better, in weather terms, reversing the route and getting settled, warm weather in the southern part of France as the north of Europe cools. You’re north of the Pyrenees and west of the alps, where are you at 6000ft?

    3. Once you cross the border stay further south heading east towards the Pyrénées, explore there, instead of the Gers, which is pretty but monotonous rolling fields. You can take the canal du midi North towards Toulouse and then head east.

It’s hard to tell from your map as it’s too zoomed out.

This is going to be a great trip.

I biked the length of the Pyrenees in September last year. It was quite comfortable. Generally good temperatures, just a little cool at the peaks – to the point where i threw on a long sleeve jersey for the descents a couple of times.

Also you should be aware that the Western Pyrenees, basque country, is pretty rainy that time of year.

    5. please take care of your bike. never let it out of your sight. i’ve been cycling from Vienna to France. on my fisrt day in France my bike got stolen in the middle of Cannes. 💩
