This design adds the ability to discreetly mount an Apple Airtag to your downtube storage cover on your Gen 4 Trek Domane SL/SLR (2023+).

Due to the component being plastic, the Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, and Ultra-Wideband antennas are able to transmit through the plastic and be reachable via an Apple Device. Normally, you cannot place an Airtag inside of a Carbon Fiber frame without extreme range degradation due to Carbon Fiber being electrically conductive, however this design provides a stealth mounting solution with minimal performance impact.

This mount utilizes one of the factory mounting bolts from Trek. Please remove your downtube cover, remove the bolt that is located where the mount will go using a 2.5mm Hex Key, then reinstall the part. The Airtag is then secured to the part via a friction fit. Insert the airtag at a slight angle, then press down until you hear a “snap”.

To remove, use a small flat head screw driver or the 2.5mm Hex Key wrench you used for installation to pop the airtag back out for battery replacements.

NOTE: This is NOT compatible with any previous Gen 1-3 Trek Domane AL/SL/SLR, Trek Domane+, or the Gen 4 Domane RSL frame (No storage).

I like it in theory but if a thief has an iPhone then it will alert that phone that they are within proximity of an unknown air tag. So for theft it doesn’t work very well.

Where this would be useful is if you just want to track your kids with it.
