Like the look of the 2024 Tour de France bikes but want something a bit more *affordable – Here’s 6 of the best road bikes with Tour de France pedigree without the pro bike price tag.

Our selection includes road bikes that we’ve previously shortlisted for the best road bikes under £3,000 and £5000 on the road.cc website.

We’ve taken to the internet to find cheaper alternatives to team EF’s Cannondale Supersix, Bora Hansgrohe’s Specialized Tarmac SL8 as ridden by Remco Evenepoel and Promoz Roglic, Jayco Alula’s Giant Propel, Ineos’ Pinarello Dogma F, Lidl Trek’s Trek Madone Gen 8 and Decathlon AG2R’s Van Rysel RCR.

*We realise these road bikes are still very expensive but they do cost significantly less than their Tour de France siblings.

Let us know which one of these road bikes you think is best in the comments…

if you like the look of the high-end super bikes at this year’s tour to France but don’t fancy paying more than you would for quite a nice car then this video is for you yeah we’ve rounded up some of the current deals of slightly more obtainable versions of these topend road bikes that still have that Tor of France pedigree perhaps one of the more appealing things about professional cycling is that you can buy pretty much the exact same bikes as the pros take this specialized tarmac s L for example this s Works version is ridden by the likes of Primos RIT and Remco evapo and could be yours for the price of a kidney this expert model doesn’t come with a Shram red or a gace group set but it does still get Carbon wheels and an electronic group set the frame also claims to be just as Arrow just as stiff and just as compliant the only difference being that it’s 95 G heavier in other words not much unless you are one of those Pro cyclists searching for every marginal game or live somewhere particularly mountainous then chances are you won’t be able to find any meaningful performance difference between the two bikes the even better news is that it costs less than half as much okay that’s still not exactly cheap but it is a hell of a lot less expensive than the range topping model the vanriel RCR has made its to France debut in 2024 and has already kicked up plenty of fuss the bike that the Deaton ag2r Riders use is £99,000 so while far from cheap and cheerful it is a fair bit less than a lot of the Alternatives in the pelaton we reckon we can do better than that though how about this RCR priced at £45,000 it shares the same geometry as the pro version and can still take up to 33 mil tires it comes with zip 303s Wheels mitching power cup tires and a scam rival AXS group set you’ll be able to find our full review of this very bike including its power meter up on the road CC website very soon but in the meantime you can find out more about how the RCR was developed using the link up there giant bikes are a bit of a staple in the modern Tour of France and this year team jco alula will be switching between the TCR climbing bike and the Propel Giants Arrow bike the top-of-the-line Propel Advanced SL disc Christ that’s a mouthful will set you back $ 11, 999 so you might well decide to save yourself around 80% of that by dropping down to the Propel Advance 2 it does have a Mechanical group set but you still get hydraulic disc brakes and a carbon frame that’s ripe to upgrade if you want to see lots more of the latest Bike Tech as well as moneys saving tips then make sure you’re subscribed to help out the channel and be first to see our new content if you ask the road CC staff what their favorite bike in the peleton on is then quite a few will answer the canondale Super 6 Evo of the EF team the bad news is that the range topping lab 71 version will set you back £12,500 so instead we quite like the look of this a super 6 evo4 with Shimano 105 mechanical and DT Swiss r470 disc aluminium Wheels it’s currently on sale for £2,400 oh and if you want to see our full comparison of the lab 71 Super 6 versus the S works sl8 then click the card up there or you can find a link down in the description below this is the brand new eighth generation Mone that little Tre will be riding at this year’s tour to France have a guess at how much it costs and then have a guess at how much this one costs we have this one in for a review yep less than half as much obviously £6,000 is still mighty expensive the price of around five human eyeballs in fact but it does still have the latest 12-speed altegra di2 ISO flow at the rear and 51 mil deep bont Trager Carbon wheels it’s far from the cheapest in the range but I think this is a great example of how you can save an absolutely shed load of money without actually compromising any meaningful performance and that brings me on to diminishing gains because I think that you can plot performance against price and it looks something a bit like this to begin with as you spend more for example on Carbon wheels and better frames you can see quite a nice performance game however as you spend more and more this begins to tail off until you get to around this point when you’re basically pissing money into the wind that’s quite a crude way of putting it but you get the gist and our final pick is what to get if you desperately want a pinell like T Minos and Tom pidcock but can’t stomach a 5 figger price tag this is the pinell F5 which borrows much of the top end Tech from the dogar F but at less than half the price pinell fans will find the frame shape very familiar but to bring the price down to a slightly more manageable £5,000 it’s made from a different blend of carbon fiber and has a lower spec with Shimano 105 di2 rather than the top end duras di2 let us know which one of these six bikes you think is the best value or which one you’d most like in your garage down 1. Ich bin wirklich dankbar für die Gelegenheit, mit solch intelligenten und nachdenklichen Menschen in Kontakt zu treten. Es ist bereichernd.😚

  2. I would advise anyone who isn't double lefthanded to learn how to build bikes. It is really not that complicated. With 4000$ you can get a pretty decent full carbon frame set from a Chinese brand(often with custom paintjob available), carbon wheelsets with 30mm+ wide rims, and a 105 di2 or Etap AXS Groupset. And you will still likely have some money to spare to spent on a powermeter etc.
(recommendated chinese brands: ICan, Elves, Hygge)

    Pros:
    – Price
    – You will have the specifications that you need in terms of size like stem length, crank arm length, handlebar width.
    – if something is broken on your bike you know how to fix it and you notice issues sooner.

    Cons:
    – Timeconsuming

Get good tools (but no need to buy premium tools bike "parktool") and don't try to rush things, this could lead to costly mistakes. However the risk of really messing something completely up are very low.

  3. All pros can finish the stages & challenges because of their impeccable physique & abilities through great nutrition, training. Wet noodles will never be able to match that with any pros’ equipment

  4. Get a Giant Defy Advanced for $4k. YOU are not a professional rider. YOU will be more comfortable (and thus faster) on an Endurance geometry. Slamming your stem and fighting over grams is silly for us mere mortals.
Get the best wheels and tires you can find.

  5. Another tip could be if any found around and still leftover is to buy a SL7 S-works "old generation" in clearance instead of the Specialized SL8 😊

  6. 0:20 " . . . pretty much the exact same bike . . ."? Nope! Only a CLOSE replica.
The pros equipment are NOT the same for the common pedestrian.
Just to stretch my point a bit more for example,
The upper side of the Top Tube of the pro bikes are VERY much lighter than the underside.

  7. Your price on the van rysel's are crazy, in Portugal they are being sold for 8K for the pro version and 3700€ for the rival axs one, so 6.75k£ and 3,12k£, instead of the 9k£ and 4,5k£ here announced
