the most exciting stage of the Twitter France opening week pagat and Remco throwing Haymakers at the other GC contenders this was the Fe anticipated gravel stage 14 sectors over 200 km over 30 km of gravel the hilliest part of the course was in the middle and then the last 50ks were flat into a bit of a headwind huge opportunity for world champion mat Vanderpool as well as multiple times St bianc winner T pagach the Breakaway formation hard fought as expected this was like Peru Bay this was from start to finish one of the best stages I’ve ever watched break goes first sector Bora doing a good job blocking it up and you can see if you’re at the back if you’re out of position into these gravel sectors you can say good night zangler and Aron Bru PE hel and pitock try to bridge across to the Breakaway that had formed with Lano Romo G other strong Riders perhaps Romo and lascano should have waited and not pull when Aron baru was dangling off the back with zangler but anyway moar three in the break van Hills Tes in there Palace and EF probably did it a bit smarter they dropped Palace back to pull heia across to that Breakaway and eventually it was formed super strong lenko all these rers these Shas tats though were informative look at ballerini in sector 2 look at his back wheel fishtailing this group would never make it but that was informative that visma they’re on the correct side you a enter on the Deep gravel side and T paga has to take evasive action quickly moves over to the right hand side in front of I think Carlos Rodriguez and visma shred this peleton 131 case to go second sector if you got stuck on the left side of this gravel all over Rider split behind groups everywhere B lemon pacing whilst Primos roit is the biggest name to miss it AO also caught behind pagach Rodriguez rco vingard they will make in front but for Bora the chase it looked like it was going okay but then quickstep and inos put Turner and Moscone kman was also pacing hindley blows up and suddenly RIT has to panic close the gap himself we were wondering how is that Gap going down so quickly all of a sudden the answer was brimal rage having to close it himself was that for boing for the future next hilly sectors UAE take over we’ve seen what you can do Vis Malisa bike we can go one better well and starts smashing and then disaster strikes for viz molisa bike vingard looks down at his bike or his rear wheel he’s had a flat quickly gets on the radio whilst UAE are sending and you can see there’s gaps and the tail is that Kristoff leaport has dropped back on the right hand side that means the big boss has had a problem luckily for him there’s a rider exactly his and my size in the team Yan tratnik and that ain’t his bike you can see see the name on it and the number tratnik given his bike to vingard if he wasn’t there to do that could have been minutes behind for vingard cuz it was still a big peleton at that moment I had no idea where the cars were next sector pagat I don’t know if this was Instinct wanting to be in front for a fast descent he gets told on the radio you’re in front I’ve let your wheel go and the Israel Rider just behind him he’s not as confident on The Descent and Pacha by the way he attacked in one stred this year with a descent attack and maybe this is that again maybe he just wanted to be in front for the super fast descent on the narrow roads into the town and suddenly he’s got a gap remu aapo reacts vingard is not in his wheel it’s Jorgenson and leaport and leap’s thinking hold on we don’t have the right man in this group pagat and rco start relaying and inos save the day for Rodriguez and vingar so Pat is gone splits are everywhere vingar on the wrong bar and now we have the longest hardest uphill sector of the day and another man jumps rco aole joins the party and no one reacts open space comes to the left vingard has to sit down on the saddle is Pacha going to counter it doesn’t come uphill at that moment aan aole like on rute looks super strong over the top pataa then counters on the flatter section of the gravel after woods but he’s got a familiar man in his wheel who was nagging his wheel all day just about Ving yard going across to aaol and with 76 K to go the three big favorites for this race are ahead of RIT and vingard refuses to pull he Els to wait for his teammates behind much to Remco Evena Paul’s annoyance they get across to the breakway which is a disaster if you’re a break Rider the last thing you want is GC Riders joining you because everyone else is going to chase them so they immediately Counterattack rco sits up and it’s like they were never there in the break the same bre goes ahead up the road next sector we see Romo having trouble in the gravel Remco enters in deep position compared to visma and UAE and that becomes a problem you can see them running wide in that corner there’s deep gravel see how deep it is where Remco I’m not sure if he crashed or just caught up luckily for him Vima were kind of in defensive mode and vanat was riding Tempo on the front and rco was able to come back easily he was also one of the strongest riders in the race rco so he would have come back anyway but it was Counterattack time if the riders in the GC group wanted to win the stage like vandol and B who and Matthews had been sitting in it was their time to go unfortunately for them they brought Fang and Kosta and they got teammates up the road so they sit on the back they got Healey and G up the front and so that really never gets too close to the Breakaway the last few flat sectors paga sensus weakness in vingard in rogl in everybody and maybe even wants to go for the stage well leads him out then leaport and vingard go over the top of him that prompts a pretty quick reaction from pagat who attacks into deep gravel again on the right hand side look at vard’s back wheel it starts to Buck all over the place and he cannot follow not only T Pacha but his teammates for the second time today leaport looks around and sees the right man is not on his wheel Jorgenson goes across to paga leaport begins to bring vingard across and then goes on the radio and says I’m done Mato jensson time for you to drop back Jorgenson drops back and then just about nightmare scenario T paga going clear up the road what an attack from him all day uphill on the flatter sections on the Deep gravel going for it dropping anybody every time he wanted just about he’s brought back by Mato jensson and again vimma Lisa bike won’t relay in the Breakaway they begin to counter each other G and sturen with the experience times it right goes clear with no one reacting I thought he gone up the road and what a stage from a GC perspective Pacha goes again Remco counters the big guns attacking vingard on the ropes trying to defend Pacha going hell for leather unbelievable stage and like I said normally the group twos when someone so strong clear up the road they begin to play but G attacking and Healey countering in effect brought back asper sturen and with 900 M to go he must have been very surprised and disappointed to see suddenly he’d been caught Healey goes Aon Bru and turis jocking for his wheel G jumps early turis picks the right wheel comes out of it and toal eny with their best Rider second in San Romo before take their first tour to France stage in seven years huge win for tus head of peock G AR bril lenko Romo Stan B and Michael Matthews GC somehow largely unchanged despite the top five knocking lumps out of each other all stage hope you enjoy the video and I’ll see you with the recap of stage 10 on Tuesday until then ciao

    1. Loved to see how Jumbo Leasing a Bike team worked to bring Jonas back to Pogis wheel, so nice to see such team effort.

    2. So the wording that pogacar used after this race in an interview about Vingegaard, and how he is "scared" of him. Dude… have you seen what you've been doing the last couple of tours? sitting at the wheel of Vingegaard like there's no tomorrow, what a pathetic child pogacar is 😂😂😂

    4. Evenepoel was strong today, but I would add that Vingegaard actually saved him from losing time. In the last 50k Evenepoel started almost every gravel section in the back of the group. And in every turn he lost places and often he had to close gaps after the turns. If Vingegaard would have gone for it, Pogacar would be 2mins+ ahead, with both Evenepoel and Vingegaard losing time. Vingegaard ows a lot to his teammates. And Evenepoel ows a lot to Vingegaard's teammates. But physically, Evenepoel looks in really great shape!

    5. I never saw when tadej fell behind. I have watched many highlights of this and it goes from him leading to him not being in the top 10. ??

    6. Matteo Jorgenson was so close to messing up. He waited way too long in Pogacars wheel, he should have waited for Laporte and Vingegaard immediately.

    7. The final winner is so hard to predict and I love it:

I’ll say the odds are 70% Tadej 25% Jonas and 5% Remco

Most things point towards Tadej, being up early not recovering from a crash. Even further the script is flipped compared to previous years. Visma LAB's lackluster team(in the mountains) can hinder the potential for Vingegaard cracking Pogacar in the third week. Maybe Jorgenson can do something, but I doubt it.

However I believe, if played right, the emergence of Evenepoel and the return of Roglic can play in to the hands of Vingegaard. He has to keep them close in the GC. If they have strength they might be able to attack the two favorites. In this case it’s vital for Jonas to not react and let Pogacar chase them. In the end it’s Tadej's tour to lose. In other words. Jonas needs to be willing to lose the podium to win the race. In case of a no Pogacar reaction Vingegaard needs to call his bluff, Tadej has the most to lose.

This is the best hope Jonas has to put pressure on Tadej even without a strong Sepp Kuss or Van Aert.

Still I’ll say Tadej is more likely to win, Jonas still needs to crack him. There are questions if he will have his usual edge in the third week, and rightly so. A lot of things has to go wrong for Tadej, but it can happen and that is the fun part.

    8. I'm glad we have only one TVL team. Too much data, too much control room, too calculated. It's just not fun to watch, Pogi and Remco are the ones making the GC fight worth watching. They go when they want to, not when a computer tells them.
I get it from TVL's view though, data wins the race, and they're not in the peloton to create attractive racing, they're there to win races. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like without all this radio communication…

    9. Can tell these guys don't watch Dylan Johnson, what a mess! It's like they didn't even do a reccie!
Actually, Phil Gaimon switched me on to something i neglected to consider, it would be a logistical nightmare to have gravel-ready bikes trucked around along with their regular fleet and TT bikes, so that's kinda fair enough. I doubt any of those bikes have the sort of clearance that would make a decent enough impact on those super loose sectors.

    10. The romantic part of me would have loved to see Jonas go with Remco and Pog, but if they dropped him (which Tadej did on last gravel) he would have been alone, and then Tour could have been lost just like that for him.

    11. Remco and Tadej missed out big time by not following through. All criticism is directed towards Jonas and VLB. Had they pulled through (even with Jonas in their wheels) he would have been isolated. And they would most likely have been able to drop him on the later sections. Big opportunity missed

    12. Wrong !!! All wrong ! Tadej could have won the race ! He wasn't let to do it . By whom , why ? I guess it was for the show to create an epic long battle to the end to have people watching breathless . This is my point of view . Remco , a little full of himself was right , for once : The Tour could've been decided in this gravel stage . vingegaard ? He sighed in relief . Roglic wasn't in the picture . Was so sad and astonished why UAE didn't go full gas ?!? I mean , in this kind of stage they could've done it : droping Roglic and vingegaard for sure . Just rewatch when UAE was going full gas on that gravel climb ! Tadej should've done what Remco did : attack from far on the steepest climb full gas and all would've been done and settled . GAME OVER ! The stage was really entertaining and full of bad choices for the GC riders , especially Pogacar . Yes, it wasn't Strade Bianche but still the level difference was smaller by 500 m or 800 m , I don't recall exactly . Yeah, bad move for Tadej ! The other 3 GC contenders … a miracle to resist at all taking into account the accident they went through and the quick recovery without proper training . Is it something smelly here or … what ? gods are among us or … Nooooo ! The avangers : Roglic, Remco and vingegaard !!! Wow !
