Today was the first of two individual Time Trials. The big four we identified in the preview show solidified that they are in fact the big four. Also, American rising star Matteo Jorgenson joins the show post race.

thank you thank God for our I mean we’d have zero chance of of of saying that yes very close to djon my wife’s family’s from there they all went to the start today oh they did her sister and her niece and her father um yeah they had a great times it was awesome well you know who showed up and we we we we sort of questioned ourselves on on the preview show when Johan had the graphic uh of the of what he uh sort of build as the big four the big four showed up that we saw now there were quite large differences between the big four but but they got first through fourth yeah I mean you and I were kind of discussing this morning about how crazy it would it be if V go beat pogar but you know what he’s still he’s just going to keep getting better and better first time trial since who knows when was the last time he wrote a time trial it’s been a long time we’d have to have ask Johan but probably last year be amazing we will break all that down uh but before we do Today’s Show brought to you by Wahoo waho makes a whole bunch of stuff right they got the great computers uh by the way Ty poar rocking that computer um they are proven in the Pelon eight World Tour teams uh more features than ever including Wahoo’s Summit feature so that means you get colored gradients detailed climb data and even helps you detect climbs nearby when you’re not using a route I I love that feature because when you when you suffer like I do on these rides and in uh it’s just like looking at a race book you see the climb you see the gradients you’re like [ __ ] how much more of this do I have to do well it’s right there in front of you uh new favorite feature music and goo GoPro control now I don’t know what took so long to do this this is an amazing idea right you skip through songs control your GoPro George guts got his hands on some amazing GoPro footage yesterday May we’ll show later uh also Speed play they’re they’re makers of Speed play they makers uh they’re also collaborated on the zift bike which we have right here uh but the speed play pedal I’ve been on for 12 years I switched over when I uh started doing tries professionally again in 2012 I had this whole Theory not only are they lighter and more aerodynamic but I was convinced and I still am that that transition from bike to run would be made easier uh with speed play uh Wahoo cycling products are trusted by the uh by eight teams in the prop Pelon uh we see the bolt uh element bolt GPS bye computer on the handlebars of eight World Tour teams as I said during the tour go to Wahoo fitness.com thememove and enter the code the move 2024 the move 2024 gets you 20% off at Wahoo fitness.com thememove also today brought to you by Roa all right now they making it all right they got they got they got the riding and they didn’t send me that color way I think that was intentional and then most importantly as I have on my face right now the readers like I I am so useless we’re rent in this house here in Aspen for the summer I can’t even turn on the lights like the lights have names on them I have to put my readers on to figure out what light to turn on that’s when you know you have a problem I mean it’s it’s but thank God and there and by the way every shade they make has the no slip so uh if you if you guys tracked the high rocks that I did in New York um I I wore uh my Rus and also had that transition lens on so I could the race was sort of inside and outside so I would go between light and dark worked out perfectly uh based in our hometown of Austin Texas love that crew Rob and his team have just done a fantastic job the move listeners get 20% off just go to Roka R roka.com the code there is the move for 20% off 20% also today brought to you by momentus most people know how important a healthy where you’re going to throw shade at me about Rimco hats off before we we start breaking down the race we have a special guest and I don’t want to take too much of his time because he just finished the TT mat T enson is joining us on the show let’s see let’s pull him up George coming through again that Rolodex of George’s is so deep and what a year he’s had I mean winning a classic in Belgium winning Paris niece uh second in dolphin a top 10 in today’s TT after a crash um a couple days ago so we’re going to check in with him see how he’s feeling um and P we get so many questions from our listeners and viewers about about uh where are the Americans what what do Americans want right this is the biggest bike race in the world it’s the only bike race that Americans know frankly uh and they get a lot of questions when is an American going to win the Tour and and this dude’s name and one of the is at the top of the list but let me tell you something this and he excused himself for not wearing a shirt he’s got this this this is a family show dear God we need to get the man of the gym the Glamorous lifestyle look folks okay George said it was okay that I came on shist so absolutely he little bit of road rash Jesus Christ hey don’t don’t let any of that drip into the mcely that’s disgusting what did that like the what do you have ice cream oh nice ice cream it’s uh well it’s not ice cream they call it ice cream but it’s uh it’s healthy ice cream but it’s close enough oh you got to send us the recipe for that that is you don’t want him I got to tell you something this this is not what I expected this is even better this is so good hey how you feeling after that impressive time trial today good uh I’m I’m happy with it it was a good you should be yeah good day good day were you able to stay in the position with that elbow like that or was it just massively painful point it was pretty um pretty painful actually the the biggest problem is not like the Lost skin is that I really like I fell on I think the elbow made contact First when I crashed so it really has like some bone bruising and yeah I I had to make some modifications to my extensions this morning to like add padding above like extra padding above the yeah above the elbow so that it kind of took the pressure off the elbow itself but in the end your legs hurt a lot more than than uh than your arms will in their R so it was it was okay well I think it brings up a good point because if for the Casual fan that watches a time trial you obviously see the aerodynamic equipment the position and I think most people probably just think that this is a almost like cuz it was adopted from ski race that your hands are just out there to create this fairing in front but Matel you can tell us and and George and I can speak from experience there is a lot of pressure I mean your hands are I mean you’re gripping your hands I mean there’s a lot of torque there in your forearms that I can only imagine that would hurt like hell and you would have to make adjustments right you’re your arms are not just sitting out there for aerodynamics right that the you’re obviously pedaling but I mean that would hurt yeah yeah yeah no it was it was really pain this morning we did did a or I did a Recon of the of the course um and like immediately when I stepped on the bike I was like I don’t even know if I can do this TT but I uh I I thought like I could I could do it if I yeah we we basically just like added a double layer above the like another layer of padding above where the elbow sits and then it was almost like my elbow was just in a little pocket and it wasn’t even um it wasn’t making contact but yeah it made it a bit weird cuz you do have a lot of pressure you’re like especially with the position so aggressive now your your whole the whole weight of your upper body is really sitting on your arms and I just had to move move the pressure up it also helps now that we have these custom almost all the all the uh top guys have we have custom extensions that have like full they have full contact with your entire arm from elbow to your wrist so it it helps the control but it also helps with pressure like you don’t have um so much pressure like directly on the elbow anymore it’s the entire arm and all that stuff is custom 3D printed did I read that right yeah some brands do it 3D printed I think ours Vision are not um they’re handmade with carbon like they took they take a 3D scan and then they some Italian Guys I think make them by hand um based on like our I actually don’t know how it’s done but I think it’s just made by carbon but yeah there are some brands that 3D print yeah I have a super non-race uh question but I’m really interested cycling has evolved so much in terms of nutrition equipment all that stuff and I’m looking at you right now with the road rash Lance and I have been there although Lance not as much as any of us but are the days of sticking to the sheets and kind of just suffering through it are they gone what’s what’s what’s the protocol now for road rash for you guys I’m curious cuz I don’t how much has it changed I wish I wish it’s still it’s still like the worst parts of your day are the shower when you crash it’s the shower yeah the shower stings like hell I just took a shower and it was like the the worst part of today and then the second is just sleeping because a you I have like basically one whole side of my body I won’t show you my hip but one whole side of my body that’s pretty open so then and I’m a s side sleeper so like my body in the middle of the night will try to roll over back onto that side and then it’ll wake me up because it’s painful and you just end up like every hour having a having a wake up um but I’ve been trying to kind of like put pillows on either side of my body to try to limit myself rolling over and it’s kind of semi worked but yeah nothing there’s no been there’s been no advancement on the that’s a bummer sad to hear that Mato don’t I don’t the last thing I want you to do is to re reveal any uh stuff or discussions within the team but I mean we have to ask uh for yonas what was what was going into the time trial what was he thinking what would he have been happy was he thinking he might gain some time back what was he happy with potentially losing but again don’t don’t share anything that you’re that’s confidential but if there is anything you can share no I don’t think it’s uh I don’t think it’s too confidential I I don’t it’s hard to know exactly like he doesn’t he’s a pretty um introverted guy so he doesn’t like share a lot of what his like real expectations are but I could tell he was quite confident after especially the first week how he was like well we started the race and it was really like he was super super nervous before the race started and in Tena before uh like when we were at altitude before this race he was pretty had pretty or very low expectations for himself um that’s just kind of how he he’s just a very like humble guy and he doesn’t uh yeah he has a pretty small ego and stuff so he wasn’t uh he just wasn’t super confident that he would be ready because he wasn’t seeing the same numbers um yet that he had seen in previous years but then I think before today after the first week we had it was like really exceeded his expectations a lot especially the um St Luca climb he took a lot from that he expected to really like lose a ton that day and then also glier was well within his what he expected and then so I think he was pretty pretty confident again that he would be up there um I haven’t seen him since since he finished the TT but from my view I think he did um a pretty good TT actually really respectable and I think we’re we’re on a very good track I mean with the the he’s a minute 15 down yep and and mato we’ve talked about this on the show I mean I I we’re a week into the tour right if you would have made the guy the deal uh at that training camp when he was nervous if you just said all right you’re going to get through these demanding days the first High you know tough day in the Alps and the time trial you’re only going to be 115 down I think he takes that deal right 100% yeah like it’s funny yeah it’s like he would have taken the deal like even if someone would have told him when he was in the hospital that he would have been able to the J of France I think mentally he he wasn’t even yeah he didn’t even I remember speaking with him a little bit when he was still in the hospital and he was unsure if he wanted to even keep riding and yeah so I think he’s he’s made really big steps mentally and think he keeps kind of moving his his own his own bar so also I also read Mato that he did a bunch of uh descending training did you guys bomb All The Descent at training camp Anda how did that work cuz that’s not sort of typical for pro cyclist to take those sort of risks in training but I’m guessing after that wreck mentally you got to get over that somehow yeah uh well we were at training camp with um wild vard and Kristoff leaport so that in itself when you stay on top of a mountain with those two guys you you you have to train down Hill I mean it’s to to yeah to keep up with them you’re you’re going pretty pretty damn fast so I think that that really helped him being with those two eyes and then since he was training so much alone out out of the hospital then getting back with the group of us um in Tena was important because he needed to kind of get that like what it feels like to like slam on the brakes before a a switch back behind someone and follow someone’s line and stuff so I think that was all quite helpful actually great well man we really appreciate your time M uh rest up get those injuries uh healed up and uh tomorrow looks like a tough day also and Sunday obviously so got a big weekend ahead enjoy that ice cream that quote unquote healthy ice cream send us that recipe yeah I will I will I will thank you very much I haven’t even looked looked at tomorrow yeah I bet all right thank you thanks good by thanks buddy I tell you I am thankful for a lot of things in my life all right thankful for my beautiful family thankful for This Crew I have never been more thankful than that bowl during that interview was he wearing clothes I don’t think he had anything I mean a minute then the bowl slid out I was like oh no no no no I could I couldn’t bring myself I was like we’ve never had any this will be your first okay man and I like The Moxy of this kid I mean that takes some [ __ ] Stones he’s got some ston to show up on the Move naked well that was kind of an Austin Powers move where just put the bowl the bowl was right there I was like please do not cuz you were catching glimpses and I like like lower skin I was like yeah he didn’t have anything just don’t move the bowl and then the bowl moved and I was like oh no well I know a lot of you just listen to the show you might want to you might want to watch you want to see a a very naked man on the move you just watch and so essentially he’s airing out those wounds I mean you got to let it he was he was airing out a lot yeah he he you’re in bandages all day long the stuff starts sticking so at the end of the race Al you want to this that stuff to just get some air and oh yeah oh man that’s a I wrote a long time yesterday I was airing out the Pila for sure [ __ ] you did go for a long ride do dude that was something wow what but what a kiding I I I like this kid well what we’re seeing too with a good time trial we know he can climb cuz he’s the last lead out man often like we we’ve got a good allrounder I mean tour guy right yeah not only can he climb but I mean he won dors blandin which is one of the hardest you know one day races in Belgium so he’s just such a dynamic head up heads up by Cy cyclist that uh man it’s exciting to see seven stages I’m not sure if I mentioned this already but seven St I got really didn’t get to I got vered over the the nude cyclist coming on the show but uh seven stages seven different teams which I said it yesterday I think it’s uh you do not see that I think it’s I think it’s great for the sport you got seven title sponsors team sponsors they’re psyched they’re awesome the the race organizers are psyched the fans of the sport all over the world uh this race has been one of the best additions so far it’s been awesome to watch uh I mean at the they’re all right there right right got so let’s go watch this here so pokker chart leading uh Remco I I know I said what I said early on my biggest fear with him dominant performance hats off is he in a race like this sort of has that bad day so you know but today was not one of them overcame what he thought was a flat tire and and dominated time TR 33 seconds down and yonas minute 15 and rogl minute 36 if you want some fun for the hater rodes jump on the preview show and see you know Lance and Johan questioning uh Evan pool’s form here we are seven stage of the Tour of France and he wins the TT quite convincingly and pachar will be wanting to put a lot of time in that before the last time trial yeah we have a long way before that we had a lot of there’s a lot yet left to happen and and I I think in that the there those are very different time trials that that is a time trial made for benga guard and poker chart the final time trial and a couple things to point out I think people were questioning since he lost almost more than five pounds since the DOL a and this being a flat time whether that was going to affect his flat power and clearly it didn’t he still won um so you would think that is certainly going to have effect on his climbing power and he’s going to be that much better uh it’s just it’s super interesting all the things the time gap between him and rogc were similar to the dolphan um it’s just it’s so it’s very it’s a very hard race to predict right now what’s going to happen when they get back in the mountains and get past this gravel stage on Sunday I know and and I I want to have a healthy disc around the gravel stage that is Sunday that is not tomorrow we’re going to talk about tomorrow stage here in a second but let’s let’s park I think this is worth a longer conversation the gravel stage but we can have that in in on the on the eve of it and that would be tomorrow uh before we go to this little commercial break uh I just want to uh highlight Kevin backlin I think this young French kid uh has tremendous potential right he can climb he wrote a hell of a time trial we just had Mato Jorgenson on he he was just ahead of him we got sixth in time time trial w a tough stage on stage two with second and flesh wone France is always they’re looking for the next hope uh from my view this is one of them right he’s on a small team that that uh that probably uh isn’t like the other teams when it comes to developing GC Talent this kid’s a good bike rider very good and he proved it today um I have another I have another really fun discussion I’d like to have here in just a second but before we do Today’s Show brought to you by keto and IQ talked about it at the top we often hear that fasting and exercise are good for the brain H vmn launched the world’s first drinkable Ketone in 2017 Ketone IQ is their latest Innovation on France mosa now listen here’s the thing about the feed and I say this every year the feed has been with us for a long time yes they have and I I literally kick myself cuz I’m always looking for good ideas uh Shameless plug to invest in and this one I’m like how did I not think of this this is an amazing idea we’re both on the same page with that I mean how much do you remember back in the day just getting stuck eating the same stuff cuz you had a sponsor whatever and you’re like do I have to eat this again yeah I mean we saw him in ta eating ice cream today it’s all about switching it up as much as you can I agree and for those who don’t know the feed is the largest Online Marketplace for Sports Nutrition you can pretty much buy whatever you want yeah I like you can buy the single service of everything when I get my Fe feed box I usually get at least five different gels couple different hydration packs and just keep it keep it fresh and clean all the time the feed will have some pretty great deals for all 21 stages of this tour starting with their tour to France pack yep I just got mine 1011 products I’m seeing some of my favorites like pillar magnesium for Sleep scratch shoes all that stuff so as stylish as George is and as how good the man looks uh he’s not great with numbers let me do the math for you that is 11 products for 21 bucks that’s about 50% off and you get the feed musette bag and it’s just like the Ginsu knife a limited tour bottle go to the feed.com and get you one of these muset bags M yeah look like GE that’s your George starter kit right there all right I I have an idea all right I was watching this time trial and and and everybody who bot cycling knows that this is they’re different bikes they’re different helmets uh different apparel different uh uh almost everything is different I mean Mato just talked about the technology in in in the pads of the bars um and we’ve seen some uh I think we’ve seen a solid evolution of Technology you don’t need to look any further than um Jonas vard’s helmet which was highly controversial at the start of the year that is if you compare that to what we used to race in this is a totally um I mean they’ve taken technology up my proposal and I know that cycling is very traditional and I know that um that there have been strict regulations around sticking to what the UCI calls the double triangle and so the double triangle means the bike has to basically be a bicycle like it’s always been a bicycle which is mean you have the front triangle and the rear triangle and then and then there’s a lot of regulations around that I don’t I don’t want to say that what if we just said yes for the road stages it’s got a basic Bally be a traditional bike but this is but for the time trials why wouldn’t we just say make whatever you want don’t make a recumbent but make the bike like whatever you want to spend to develop product doesn’t Triathlon do that yeah if you watch Triathlon Triathlon doesn’t have a double triangle regulation you see some really Space Age looking stuff but when you think about like and I always compare cycling to Formula 1 I mean I don’t know half of the discussion in Formula 1 is about the teams and the technical Advantage they have so number one whoever they want to hire to uh design this stuff and two uh now there is a limit on how much they can spend but basically who spends the most wins the most um what a fun game that would be for the manufacturers right you got all these big big manufacturers weighing in and you see them you see them when you watch the race what if we just said for the time trials you guys go as make that b or any of that equipment as fast as possible I think it’s an amazing story now you would have people left out you’d have the smaller teams with smaller manufacturers that could not keep up that’s the nature of it um but I think that’d be a hell of a story I think it’s interesting I think it it’s it it grabs eyeballs and I think it drives Innovation I had and I this is a new thought I I had this thought today when I actually I was looking at Jonas’s helmet going who sat around and thought this was a good idea but then you look at it I mean the helmet literally came over was covering his shoulders yeah I mean think of the drag if you want to sit in the tunnel of the drag that that a flat shoulder causes and just sweeping that air past his shoulders what if we just said you know got to have two wheels that’s it you have to have two wheels and it cannot be a recumbent but you can go you need to make something to make the rider as fast as they can humanly go I mean like you mentioned those bikes those bikes these days are pretty darn fast all the 3D printed stuff you can make you can make the positions you can make these bikes a lot faster and they’re alone I get it you don’t want to do it in a pelaton where you’re potentially making stuff that is flimsy or potentially dangerous and you got 200 guys around you but for the TTS you’re out there alone [ __ ] it let’s have some fun with this just make an F1 car that we’re going to Pedal all the big brands are like shut up Lance shut up we don’t sell time trop bikes as is as is and you want us to do this please I get it you don’t sell a lot of time TR bikes but this is a great story that if you’re buying a road bike and you see somebody that’s made the fastest bike in the world period full non-stop you’re going well if they can do that I’m sure this road bike that they’re pitching me on is also badass like I I mean and well you know uh and and news flash the UCI ain’t listening to me and you know I think it’s a good idea you know the bikes we ride have a very very fast time trout bike that is not UCI legal but they use them in time mon monocog frame very cool looking frame check it out online it’s it’s how they got started in the game um but anyways I I’m just throwing that out there throwing it out there what else we got tomorrow stage talk about tomorrow because tomorrow is and we can pull it up let’s Gabrielle pull that up 183 kilometers we’re definitely going to need a land to name where this place starts and where this place finishes uh I see this profile and I’m like GH that just looks uncomfortable and then if you go look at the map smaller roads twisty turny highlight or or not highlight headline here or small headline uh I did a little Troy kemling 65% chance of rain T the temp I just looked at R I can check real quick I think that’s an important thing I don’t I don’t I don’t but anyway super lumpy stage if we go back to it um a lot of the I’d say 80% of the pelaton took it as easy they could today so they’re going to come out firing today or tomorrow um I can Envision a big Breakaway going very hard stage to control for a Sprint albe it the some of the Sprinter teams will want it to come down to a Sprint uh so it just really depends on the collaboration and the the Dynamics of the Breakaway who’s up there yep I do think we’ll see a breakaway but let’s go even more specifically to the last kilometer cuz uh if there’s a break they’ll have to they’ll have to deal with this and if there’s a a bunch Sprint they’re going to have to deal with this also this is if you do the math you get a little Hoodwink there CU it says 328 M high of elevation with a K to go and 349 at the Finish you do that math like that’s 2% uphill well if you walk it back another 400 meters it’s still 328 it’s about 5% uphill so this is not a pure field Sprinter Sprint I I which I think probably means even higher chances of having a breakaway go and stay away well a guy like Bingham gmet is a very good uphill Sprinter uh Mato vandero very good uphill Sprinter um so those guys are going to you know have some incentive to keep that uh keep it make it a Sprint yeah uh so it’ll be it’s not but like I said it’s a very hard stage of control and um just really depends on weather who’s in the Breakaway all those things are going to come into play wind wind these roads twisty turny small roads if you throw a little wind in there I didn’t Che I didn’t Kimel the wind um I was too busy sort of being proud of myself on that idea I thought it was amazing [Music] idea oh my God this is a and this been a very interesting podcast for us I mean first we had to stare at a half- necked man the whole time I think it got us rattled ear I mean I was I was legit like oh my God I was worried about saying bad words now we have to explain to our listener and viewer why we have naked people on the show it might get flagged on YouTube I don’t by the way Conan O’Brien called and he would like his look back Mato I mean that I know he just got out of the shower but did he not do the Conan he’s got the ginger Conan qua yeah I mean what a doppelganger hey ventom trivia also tall they’re both I mean this leg anyway we should talk to Matteo’s mom has she excuse me ma’am have you ever met Conan [Music] O’Brien we’re hey we’re going to give away a brand new ventom ns1 at the end of the tour you can uh submit an answer daily every time you submit an answer it’s another entry right yesterday’s question was what was the name of the first pro team that Lance and George joined that of course was Motorola yep is that what may brought you to Austin that they were based here it had nothing to do with that it had nothing to do with that okay although they were one of the first you know when I did move to Austin um and of course everybody talks about Austin right it’s it’s arguably one of hottest cities in the world when I moved there when did you move there I grew up there like I said I knew you were there I knew you were raised there uh but as a kid in 1989 I moved there there was there was a college that’ be in the University of Texas and there was the state government and that was kind of it those only job but Motorola was one of the first big Tech players to have a footprint in Austin mhm so but no that it just that was just yeah uh NE the question for today this is a tricky one but if you were following some controversy during the 99 tour you might remember this what was the bike brand and model that Lance rode uh during his two time trial wins in 1999 oh that’s a good question that is a great question Lars came up with that one uh and that might not be that easy to just Google I know I’m sitting here thinking um okay I think no I got it I got it that’s one of the tougher questions that’s a good one I’m not going to All I’m gonna say is that that was not a very popular [Laughter] decision oh God yeah well you know I mean okay all right uh here’s a couple questions for you guys before you go I’m pause oh wait by the way send your answer into ventom racing.com thememove couple of quick questions uh in fact George just alluded to this uh outside of the GC contenders how many writers given allout effort in a time trial that’s from Eric not many I’d say 20% of the pelaton went all out today wow yeah cuz they’re they’re saving up for a day like tomorrow right you always always about conserving energy uh another one saw we saw the kid uh Bernard John F Bernard’s we raised with his father uh who was a great fren and was yeah how cool was that yeah ended up being one of Miguel Ender’s loyal lieutenants uh we called him Jeff his name was Jean FR we’re like ah [ __ ] it we how about we just call you Jeff Jeff Bern uh this kid’s riding time TR I’m like he’s waving at everybody like swinging his arms around I was like what and then he stopped yeah and I realized oh this is his hometown that was cool yeah oh they went crazy for they did uh here’s another one this is a fun one Terry from Canada here longtime listener firsttime caller uh why are team Tri time trials so rare in the grand Tours now that’s part one I think you’ll like part two of this question does or has a writer ever listened to music uh while they’re doing a time trial I know that personally I write a lot faster when listening to music that amps me up like Iron Maiden or the Beasty Boys uh that’s uh from Terry but one uh Team time TR is my favorite event in the Tour of France uh I feel like it’s one of the the most dramatic high-speed beautiful events in cycling and it’s a great question I don’t know why they don’t do it all the time I think logistically it’s uh tougher to pull off perhaps no um no but uh there’s nothing better than a a Sleek team time Tri team rolling down the road I love it I miss it hopefully they bring it back next year and for music most likely no it’s not allowed for music in time TR uh we have talked about it a lot uh I think the team time TR for the fans um is one of the most interesting things to watch when you see eight guys ripping down the road on the best technology uh going and they’re going a lot faster cuz I M 2003 when you were the man himself on my right y’all listen up was asking me to slow down team time he was asking me to slow down in the TT y’all y’all heard y’all heard youan can back it up he’s asking me to slow down I had a bad year off day off day um but uh I I think but you can also sort of uh I do think it should be it doesn’t have to be every year but I think it should be most years but you can also play that it’s not this year but you can play this out like what happens and of course it counts for individual time as well you can play this out like how how would UAE for fair versus visma Fair versus inos Fair versus uh Red Bull like you can start to play out what what implication is this having on the on the overall and the individual GC and so well even before the race starts they they they’ll have to bring guys that are suited to that type of event so they don’t lose that much time it it changes everything it it is an excellent question and and it but it’s also a question we could probably get the answer to like why not like I don’t think we’re the only four people here us plus was it Terry sitting there asking about it I’m sure there are a lot of other folks like damn I missed that like I’m sure they get a lot of questions like that Y and here’s we’ll do one more today because this is a really good one I think uh it says I this is from Jimmy I saw a photo online showing Mark cavendish’s chain off as he crossed the line in uh the victory pose so he he he wins the record and his chain falls off as he’s crossing the line followup he had a mechanical on stage six and had to catch up what is the relationship between a writer and his mechanic any special mechanics in George or Lance’s history that’s from Jimmy in Versailles Kentucky not France how about that you’re from Kentucky all right do they wherever you are in Kentucky do they have a palace you should if you if there’s not you should just build a fake one this is the Palace of Versailles and then like two seconds go Kentucky um the relationship between the Rider and the mechanic is very important and I and I believe they showed a lot or not a lot some of this in the Cav docu documentary that we talked about and Cav’s a fiery guy and when stuff goes wrong you don’t want to be the mechanic [ __ ] happens right uh you you saw I believe it was Stephen Kung in the time trial today that chain super dangerous do not when that chain came off and he’s he is sitting there thinking this is this just happened oh my gosh what a bummer he’s thinking who screwed this up so it’s if you’re the mechanic sitting in the team car God forbid something like that happens you feel terrible right it’s um and boy going back to our day with guys were gluing on tubulars down fast descents you roll a tubular on a descent and the mechanics sitting there going did I not GL you know did I miss a section of the glue I don’t know I mean it’s it’s it’s very important they are totally unrelated C has this unique move when he stops pedaling and you we’ve seen a dozen of these images and it’s just this slight recoil that he’s already done pedaling so he’s not going to Pedal forward and then go over the bar you would go over the bars if you pedal with no chain with that kind of power he does this little recoil when he knows the race is over and that chain flies off it is no big deal he gets it back on before he even stops but it’s I mean how many times have we say holy [ __ ] he just won the stage without a chain that’s what it looks like it does but it’s and you can go back and they showed it the other day there’s just this little recoil where that thing just flies off well I think it’d be a lot of pressure to be a mechanic for the top Pros absolutely would be a lot of pressure and we did have we did to to to the last part yeah you have to have a close relationship with with with that person certainly cannot have a bad relationship I mean we were lucky we had legendary mechanics we had Julian de who was merc’s mechanic Lon mechanic or mechanic how many mechanics might they have at a tour in your day and then probably more now I think they’ve got a lot more now we we were we didn’t have that many but then we went on you know you had I think we had about four mechanics chis Chris Van R van Rosebrook which I you know trying to pronounce this Bel van rosbrook I’m like what the [ __ ] do that mean Ya’s like call him Jeff no yeah no it’s pink the direct translation was pink pants so I just started calling the guy pink pants uh we had John Mark who still in Pelton and wanito he’s still around uh those guys probably have long careers yeah you yeah all right we send that was a great question Jimmy appreciate it uh send any questions to the move at weed do. team big weekend lined up for racing it’s going to be good it’s going to be exciting that’s right yeah thanks for tuning in everybody see you all tomorrow [Music] h [Applause] [Music]

    1. Your take on time trial bikes is absolutely absurd. So you just want the rich to keep getting richer. Time trials need to go back to road bikes for all time trials. Most races across the United States are phasing out time trial bikes for time trials. They are dangerous, they are expensive and it’s a pain in the ass to bring two bikes to a stage race.

    2. Visma tells Visma things: we calculated to lose 5 minutes. So, Vingegaard is the secret winner of the tt. Blablabla

Or something like this. If Visma, obviously, don't want to tell anything than they just shouldn't.
Instead of telling predictable team propaganda bs.

    3. Isn't a TTT a very "short" day for TV? It's basically 18 groups that depart 3 mins apart and the whole stage is over. Maybe that's why they don't want do it…..🤔

    4. I totally agree with the f1 analogy. I don’t know of any vehicle innovation that didn’t come directly as a trickle down from f1. The manufacturers would benefit from this as well.

    5. A time trial is supposed to be the "race of truth" that is the purest test of a rider's ability. It's not supposed to be a test of bicycle technology. Lance is wrong about making TTs more like F1, with more emphasis on the machine than on the man. I would argue the opposite… that specialized TT bikes should be done away with entirely. Riders should have to use the same bike in the TT that they use in every other stage, and also the same helmet. That would level the technological playing field for all teams and return the TT back to its roots as the "race of truth".

    6. It is interesting that Remco commented that he thought it was a tall order for him to keep up with Tadej in the high mountains.

    7. Lance and crew , apart from the cycling content here you guys do real justice to your sponsors . I love the opinions of Johan Bruyneel . Keep up the content

    8. A French guy in his last Tour wins the first stage… Vino keeps up with Pogacar despite being off for a month… Now Cav breaks the record… seems more a WWF story line than a TdF…
