    2. it has been an honor and a privilege watching Mark over the years. To overcome the adversity he has and return to such a grueling sport at such a high level is remarkable. Sir Mark, the Manx Missile, you silenced your critics. May your record stand for a long, long time

    3. Confession … I didn't think he'd get 35. I thought the cycling Gods were against him after last year. What a legend.
Others, like Greipel and Kittel came and went. He saw them all off. I'm off to see him on the 11th, in Villeneuve sur Lot. I am fortunate to live in SW France, where the TdF often comes through.

    4. 'Standing on the shoulders of giants' is not applicable in this situation! MC hasn't achieved this because of Merckx leading the way, he did it entirely separately. Wrong choice of phrase.

    5. Was taking my Dad (82) to chemotherapy today and talking cycling, he was telling me about Eddie Merckx.

"Hold that thought, Dad. Might be Cav's by the time we get home…."

I genuinely shed a tear for Mark's accomplishment. My friend and cycling partner passed last October and Cav was the reason he kept riding. He only stopped just weeks before he passed.

Sir Mark Cavendish. A true legend and an absolute inspiration. Thank you. Now go and make more history.

      for Gareth xx

    6. Wonder if I'll ever again in my life see such amazing sprinter. That era with Greipel, Kittel, Tony Martin, was so good. They were so competitive

    7. An honor to be able to witness greatness. I grew up listening stories about Merckx. NOW I am lucky enough to be able to tell stories about the GREAT the GOAT the one and only Sir Mark Cavendish

    8. GOAT of sprinting. But Merckx won every possible stage. From the largest mountains to sprints to time races. The cannibal was the best ever

    9. Can we just list the sprinters he went up against and bested…Petacchi, Hushovd, Griepel, Kittel, Sagan*, Phillipsen, Groenewegen, McEwan, Zabe, Boone , Degelenkob, Viviani……

    10. The HTC years of Cav were amazing, sprint against him at your peril.

He was recently made a knight by the King so he's now Sir Mark.
