    Part 2 , I test ride the 1300:

hi folks welcome to the man cave and apparently there is a new Young Buck out on the Block to replace my trusty r1250 GS so without further Ado let’s go and see what all the fuss is about hey [Music] guys [Music] and [Music] so here we are then at The Mantel collection let’s go and have a look at the brand new r1300 GS and guys you’ve got to stay in the van okay stay there let’s go and have a look at the new bike so here’s the new r1300 GS let’s have a quick look around it shall we looks pretty good well I think she looks quite nice actually is it nice enough for me to get rid of my 1250 GS I don’t know we’ll have to take it out for a bit of a spin I think but not today because it’s going to rain and it’s already been out in the rain already so it has been clean so in the video you might see a little bit of dirt on it but one of the technicians has already taken out just to give it a a road test cuz it is brand new out of the box today so what do I think yeah it’s a nice looking bit of Kit actually so I think what we’ll do let’s put some video together and have a look around the bike and I’ll put some audio over the top so let’s crack on so here it is BMW’s new r1300 GS it shares nothing with the previous bike the fresh modern look is growing on me to be honest and as one technician said it looks like it was made by the Japanese it’s a brand new GS from the ground up it’s got more power and less weight oh and yes it’s got the new Matrix head like that seem to have divided opinions there used to be a time when the gs’s didn’t come with much as standard not anymore these are the main standard items of equipment that all Jess has now come if you want to go for the te spec bike for an extra £ 2,475 you get more [Music] stuff the GS now comes in four flavors you get the base model of your preferred flavor or you can spend more cash and go for the te version which gets you more stuff so you have choices all depending on how big your wallet [Music] [Music] is [Music] the 1300c Box engine is the most powerful box engine produced making 145 horsepower and a whopping 149 new M of torque it’s lost nearly 12 kilos of weight and has a lithium iron battery now located under the seat Electronics wise as standard you have cruise control four riding modes ABS Pro Dynamic traction control and that wonderful 6.5 in TFT the look is fresh and modern and no doubt will appeal to a wider audience but I’m not a fan of the wheels it’s got to be spokes for me can’t help but think it now looks more like the XR the engine and rear subframe are finished in this kind of non-stick frying pan surface and that will be interesting to see how it holds up fried eggs anyone the engine is shorter as they have moved the gearbox from behind the engine where it was previously to underneath it keeping the weight lower down from a cleaning point of view there will be less areas for the water collecting particularly around the cylinder heads it now looks as the cylinders are in line compared to the staggered cylinders on the previous model delivering the power to the rear wheel is a new shaft drive system again with that frying pan finish the exhaust is now so much smaller than the previous one and there is a rather nice acrapovic exhaust as an option the frame is all new not a tube ins sight and is made of steel which has a smooth black paint finish the subframe is made of diecast aluminium and has that textured frying pan finish as I call it if you’re up for the electronic suspension package this has now evolved into a system that can also adjust the spring rate and to be honest that doesn’t really mean much to me everything is upgraded so on the front we have the Evo tver suspension unit and at the rear again all upgraded we have the Evo paral lver suspension unit the bike has a 19-in front wheel and a 17-in rear wheel and is wearing meta’s tance next two tires which are a really good Tire this bike has the optional upgraded Sports brakes with BMW rather nicely written in red on the caliper they are actually Brembo brakes with larger front discs than the previous model and the rear brake unit is also a Remo unit 2 getting on to the bike then the bike feels noticeably smaller and more compact than my 1250gs the standard seat height is 850 mm however you can get different seats and foot Peg combinations to get your ideal seating position and it does also feel a lot easier to move [Music] around [Music] the center stand now comes with this small retractable piece that you flick out and then this allows you to then push down on this piece and then put the bike up onto the center stand certainly much easier to do this than my [Music] GS the new tank is flatter in appearance contains 1 L less so it’s a 19 l tank theoretical range about 247 Mi and it’s got this squidgy kind of tank protector material so that’ll be interesting to see how that fares over time oh yes the radio key can now sit in this fancy storage compartment just like its Big Brother GSA there is a USB power supply for charging your phone it’s 5 Vols 3 amps pressing the button on the radio key tells you the state of the battery green is good red is nearly dead the bike’s power push button which on the previous 1250 GS was on the top of the forks this is now gone and once the key has spoken to the ring area located here in front of the forks you simply press the button on the right handlebar cluster to power the bike on you now have the choice of two screens this one and then the sports screen which giv gives you extra stuff like lean angle the switch gear is typical BMW no change there few more buttons and I don’t believe it’s back lit you can get this electronic wind screen as an optional extra and it will cost you about 280 very simple to use just use the rocker button here on the left hand side it looks pretty impressive and i’ be interested to see how effective this new screen is you get some wobbly bits of plastic here and another power socket on the right hand side you get these integral indicators in the handguards but you can get normal ones if you want to go off-road the bike has the very Posh radar cruise control with blind spot detection I’m not sure if I would have that as an option myself if you do attempt to pull out and the system detects a vehicle behind you it tells you that there is a vehic vehicle behind you by flashing in the mirror it is very clever as always with BMW you can allow them to remove as much of your hard-earned cash from your wallet by going to the configuration page and Ticking all the options good [Music] luck and finally yes you thought i’ had forgotten that Matrix LED headlight in reality it looks okay just different I don’t know whether I love it or Loa it actually but I guess time will [Music] tell it’s a really well put together bike which no doubt will appeal to a wider Market do I prefer the modern New Look to mine do you know what I’m not sure I’m not keen on the multi-function indicators and I do wonder how long the gel type frame protectors will last with power washing and cleaning Etc it certainly feels lighter and Tighter and I do look forward to riding it soon hopefully it will blow me away well that’s it folks that’s my initial look at the r1300 GS I’m sure like myself there’s going to be lots of people out there thinking do I change my r1250 GS up for this I don’t know I haven’t ridden it yet so that’s going to be the next thing I’ll take this bike out for ride sometime next week when I’m back on the island and I’ve got some time to do it and when the roads are a little bit dry but if you got any comments to make make them in the comment section down below uh big thank you to Greg the owner of the mser collection for allowing me to come down and have a look at the bike so thanks very much Greg and as ever ride safe and we see you again soon in the next video cheio for now

    1. I was waiting ages for this bike coming out 😢once I seen that front end and headlight I was that put off I went and bought the ultimate edition it's like the designer got board and rushed the front lol…never mind hope it grows on me…all i can see when I look at the front is one of them garage led lights from amazone 😅

    2. Best looking Suzuki BMW have made.
Saw one in the flesh Sunday, looked at it, sat on it. I was rather underwhelmed.
I own an exclusive te 1250. I wont be changing my bike. it is that good.

Edit: How will that cast alloy subframe stand up to the rough and tumble off road? And will the adventure have cast alloy subframe? 🤨

    3. No Tail-light ??? Brake lights are in indicators ??..- that is stupid and dangerous. Especially for riders who use their bikes on dark mornings and at night. Would have been a much better idea to have a good sized tail light with brakes also linked to the indicators for added visibility. Another issue which no review seems to have covered is the luggage. I doubt if the rugged, top-opening aluminium panniers from the 1250/1200 models will fit and the new plastic-looking ones for the 1300 will no doubt cost a fortune.

    4. It has had pretty good reviews so far seen a few European bikers test riding it. It does come in quite expensive and you can’t use the previous luggage so another £1500. Oh and £220 for the plate to fit on the BMW rack to be able to fit the BMW top box designed specifically for this bike I thought they’d stopped this after the last of the air cooled bikes.

    5. Looks like for Finishes BMW made the Honda as a benchmark. Plastics and metal paints are Japanese finish. Old GS looks more industrial or agricultural machines., That is the reason everyone sees Japanese influence in design and build

    6. Not sure BMW will thank you for the “frying pan finish” and “wobbly bits of plastic”🤭sticking with my v4s multi here….oh and I’m not sure about the headlight either.

    7. thanks a lot for the lift 🙏. but i just finished my 1250 triple black more or less and i will never buy a 1300. even though it has some really good gimmicks: super nice rear end, i think the cruise control is great, the shape is on a new level, it is not so bulky anymore, more powerful anyway. so according to ferdinand porsche: the best vehicle is always the newest one. so forget what i said at the beginning, i will probably have to buy one soon 😂

    8. Well done 👏 thanks .You set the bar on reviews. Be looking for your ride review of this 1300. And I need to rewatch your TFT and key Fob tutorial. Thanks again from Texas. Just returned from the BMW Motorrad 100 yr. anniversary in Alabama. What a meetup that was.

    9. Just come from my local bmw dealer here in Spain ! First impressions looks nice , triple black fully loaded 30 k € 🤪 the metal Finnish is like frying pan , the exhaust looks like a Ali exspress slip on and 😅too much seat , runs up the tank which is 19 liters , handle bars seem thinner and not so wide , maybe a ilusión to make it feel smaller 🤷🏽‍♂️and the head like , still don’t like it 😂 don’t think I’ll be changing anytime soon .

    10. BMW should have only tweaked a few things on the 1250…more HP, electronic windscreen, back-lighting, etc.
Not my cup of tea, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder
      Always enjoy your video's.
      Keep your 1250 🙂

    11. No separate brake light is just dangerous. You can't really see those indicators when you're braking so BMW just wants more people to get rear ended. Well now you have a stupid radar which tells you 0,5 seconds before the crash that you're about to get wrecked. Nobody wants those stupid radars, they just add weight, add cost and are hideous. Every rider has a blind spot monitor. It's called turning your head.

Integrated indicators on hand guards on and adventure bike. Well the first time you drop the bike, your crappy plastic hand guards are gone as are your indicators. Even if you replace those hand guards with better ones, you then have to do some botch job to get the indicators.

Making the bike quite a bit smaller and changing the riding position will make a lot of people not want to get this since the point of these 'luxury barge' adventure bikes is the relaxed riding position and ease of use.

Oh yeah, they removed the button for heated grips as well.

What on Earth were they thinking?

BMW ruined their cars and now they're ruining their motorcycles as well. Hopefully other manufacturers take heed what not to do.

    12. Lots of plastic and a frame that may not stand up well to a drop or impact….a few off road drops and you can see lots of expensive plastics and a dented frame writing one off. Looks like any other Japanese adv bike from the side. Front is hideous….only a face a mother could love. Integrated tail lights/indicators I’m not a fan of. I think they’re dangerous.

Engine by all accounts is strong and a step up from the old one and handling is meant to be better but comfort and lazy familiar GS positive touring traits seem to have been lessened. I didn’t see much wrong with the old bike bar a need for better paint systems and a redesign of the shaft. They could have got 10bhp more out of the older motor and done those improvements along with minor chassis tweaks plus back lit the damned buttons and I’d have bought one. I won’t be buying a 1300. Too expensive and I have concerns about various aspects. Love the 1200’s and 1250’s though. Great bikes.
