we had queried whether yasper philipson would be penalized for his Sprint and around half an hour after the stage had finished confirmation the Belgian has been relegated for deviating from his Sprint line Adam you called it as soon as we saw it explain exactly what happened and why he’s been relegated for it he moved off his line basically I mean you got Phillips in here I’m not going to concentrate on the rest I’m just going to concentrate on him and vanard vanard was the one he impeded vanard starts to launch up the right hand side I’ll press play in a moment philipson starts to launch up the right hand side the interesting point is is when they do start to launch vanard gets right alongside him so that’s the point where vanard starts to launch his Sprint that’s where philipson steps out but if you look at them here they are pretty much neck and neck I mean there’s not a lot maybe a head in it but like their elbows are right next to each other so they are alongside neck and neck and then at this point here philipson does start to Edge away from vanard but he starts to shut the door and it’s at that point there and the best way to show it is just by flicking backwards and forwards like this if you do that you can see him move in if you do that you can see him move in a little bit but the silly thing is for philipson is that he was past him he had the space to move Robbie was just saying then he had the space to move there was no need to do it it’s almost like a natural reflexer and P him I need to get onto that barrier for some reason Riders like sprinting on the barrier but and also I mean imagine trying to ride on a tight rope at 70k an hour full stretch after 170k whatever it was you think you want to walk straight on a t yeah well imagine trying to sprint on and that is exactly the problem so that’s the problem has happened before isn’t it with him in this scenario so it can’t be habitual here he’s got to stay within the line that he is racing on and W vanard was neck and neck alongside him and he’s impeded him there it’s black and white to he I mean we can see that he has deviated from his Sprint line we can see that he has bed in fard but do we suspect that it’s because it’s yasper Phillipson and he has for for this very maneuver at the T of fronts which is why he has been penalized I think there’ll be in element of that there’ve been little incidents and sometimes you can give the benefit of the doubt to a rider and where I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt was that he was edging in front of Walt fart so he he’d cleared him it wasn’t like fart was trying to pass and got blocked but obviously the comment then that he came in too much and he impeded van Art’s result not that he was going to pass philipson back but I think a clear can we get the screen back up I don’t know if we can or not but a very clear image to show is this one here of vanart this is as Philipson’s already deep into his Sprint here grona wag’s coming up on the left hand side this is vanart here and look he’s got loads of space he doesn’t need philipson to move Philipson’s got all the space in the world he just needs to keep going that way and as we Press Play Just ever so much this is when it starts to go wrong he’s already past vanard van Art’s no longer in his situation and then you get to this point and he just starts it’s very dark under those trees there but all of a sudden that room that vanart had Philipson’s taken half of it so it’s that is the rules of the UCI and the way they’re look at it like you came off your line it’s a straight lines the Finish turn right as well he’s literally you can see his shoulder his right shoulder moving down slightly and that is the Turning of his bars into that space if we look back at yesterday where Mark Cavendish started his Sprint from on the right hand side of the road ended on the left barriers the difference there is didn’t impede anyone whatsoever did a big switch across the road but there was no one having to avoid anything today it’s a matter of centimeters but for AR got impeded so that’s it’s not even so much impeding his result it’s the dangerousness of the maneuver someone has to back off or there’s going to be Carnage yeah and it did definitely impede what fart’s result in he he stopped pedaling he was he was Che you see he was imped but I just didn’t think at the time it was enough to relegate to relegate philson yeah well then you’d probably Chuck him off the race but I I find it’s the the element of philipson already being in front and moving further in front that sort of gave him a bit more right of way I like this Robie but the one who agrees with you I think it gave him the right away to to come in the right but it’s a very fine line and I come from an older School of sprinting and if that had been me relegated I would be rable I agree with Robie I mean that I’m just looking at from Pure basis of the rules like Phillips and W was passed him it’s not that bad but it’s just as the rule book States now and that’s what the Riders have to go by just briefly explain Adam the point of the relegation because he hadn’t won anyway he loses a second place which isn’t much in the grand scheme of things however they had other Ambitions as well as Sprint victories didn’t they green jersey massive points on the line first second third fourth whatever it is all the way down and philipson is after that green jersey again he won it last year so this is a huge chunk of points that he won’t get now so in terms of his green jersey Ambitions this is a real Dent into it you know how many intermediate points you have to get for the the same amount of points to the second place you probably have to do about four or five Sprints and that’s if you win every single one of them is that psychological blow for the whole team as well you know they haven’t won a stage yet yes okay it’s only stage six but having to deal with all of this with the staff in the background it it’s not going to be good for the team all that hard work come to nothing for a day and I can tell you in the green jersey competition normally you miss one Sprint that’s the end of your hopes philipson sort of got himself within touching distance after yesterday’s result now this setback 30 points gone out of the bank account he’s he’s up against it to be in contention for that Jersey yeah we’re only six stages in but we are three Sprints deep and he had gone up to second place in the points Jersey competition he has now moved down to Fourth not a great start to this race for alason dtim who left with three stage wins last year all thanks to yasper philipson still to get a stage victory

    1. Jasper Desaster;-) he is a great cyclist, but this is over the line and fair does that it is being sanctioned. Maneuvers like this are exactly what led to jacobsen‘s horrific accident a few years ago

    2. This video title finally gives me some good news, which I was waiting for since TdF 2024, where the judges never sanctioned Philipsen's arrogant and unfair sprinting behavior (also because he slyly shared his unfairness with an untouchable champion as MVDP which always helped him until the last metre of every sprint). No, Philipsen is not a talented biker at all!

    3. Thank you for covering this. I saw it happen & was surprised it wasn’t mentioned in the coverage. This is how Jasper rolls 🤷🏻‍♀️.

    4. The penalization is very well deserved, and long due. The only reason there's any argument is because he did not send Wout (or any other rider) head first into the barriers. It's wrong and dangerous, and he's made a habit of it. I was afraid that UCI was waiting for someone to get seriously damaged before calling out Jasper, this call is the right thing to do for the safety of the other riders.

    5. WVA just had a crash for goodness sakes! He doesn’t need another one! Came back to TdF because of Netflix! I remember really disliking Jasper watching his dirty play from last year.
