I’m midway through replacing the (very worn) SRAM hidden bolt chainring on my bike. However, I can’t get the final one of these things (that the chainring bolts screw into) out of the old unit.

One the other four, once the bolts were removed, they simply dropped out (as you can see from pic 4, there’s no thread holding it in place). But one seems stuck fast – even after a few whacks.

Any ideas of how to remove? I don’t want to continue beating it, in case of damage. Maybe I just need to buy a replacement for the new ring? If so… what the hell is it called? Cheers

    1. It should come out just by tapping the exposed “collar” on the reverse side.

You can just screw the other half of the bolt (the part where you put the allen wrench) into the struck one, and then push or tap.
