Coast to Coast in a day for the cancelled (but still unofficially went ahead) Sportive HQ event.

My longest distance and elevation combined ride EVER. Such an amazing day out! I had a target time of 10 hours and managed to beat it too, coming in at 9:07:29

Shout outs go to various people I met throughout the day and the biggest of thanks to Sarfraz (sorry I got your name wrong in the video!!) who put the feed stations on.

Shout outs (sorry if I have missed anyone):
Sarfraz – this wouldn’t have been possible without you and the feed volunteers
    Jordan & Neil
    James on the red Ribble
Mark and Martin from Drighlington BC
Lady in purple jersey and friend riding for Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Gloucester CC lady from York who shared our group for a while
The 2 guys from Grantham who I met on the train to Seascale
The Canyon rider who I briefly spoke to on the false flat up Hardknott

good morning and welcome to the coast to coast video finally made it to seascale beach it was about 7 miles here from the hotel accommodation last night there quite a few as turned out like I said before loads of people still doing it anyway so yeah just about time to to set off conditions are looking pretty good going to be hitting hard not about 12 mi in so nice and early on the day I’m quite pleased about first feeds at 25 Mi at Kendall yeah let’s just get to [Music] it we’re just approaching the peaks of the Lake District now and this will be the second time I’ve going up hard up pass first time it was wet it was dangerous fell off a few times un clipping and obviously it’s been raining all night so I don’t know if you can see this on the camera it always just looks so eerie and spooky there’s this constant Loom of clouds above the Lakes due to the uh the moisture and the conditions here and it just looks so spooky all the time you know I think hard not pass a day I’m obviously looking to better my time than 2 or 3 years ago whenever it was I’ll put it up on the screen I think my previous time was 21 or 22 minutes so anything obviously better than that is good it’ be nice to get it down to around about 16 17 minutes but you know we’ll see how it goes it’s about to start getting real now right this is it now it’s hard not just approaching it I might even change my camera settings looks like not much light’s coming through so I’m going to be putting the camera on the uh under the handlebars and there it is you can see it now this is when the nerves really start to kick in cuz the ground is wet and it’s always covered in loose gravel and it’s got tight hair pins 33% in a few places so yeah we’ll just take it easy can see a a few flashing lights up there my Riders [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah yeah [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] made up hard nut 1542 new PB chaer that how you doing guys all good now we just got descend hard not and got the back end the rhinos [Music] [Music] I’m only about 35 miles in at a minute feeling good though I just need to keep remembering there still a long long way to go yet so just ease off a bit and Pace the first feed station’s in about 4 miles so load up on some more calories and then get going again just made it to the first feed station Kendall done about 39 40 Mi not going to stop for long just want to get on the road again I think try to take this off got to stay in my shoes it was going to happen one day Wen it oh bit of fatigue is starting kicking you know we’re only about 45 miles in I think we’re just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales at the minute the sun’s coming out a bit rain jackets off I’m just on a 6% climb and yeah we’ll just keep going for an hour yeah check out some of these views [Music] yes I’m just about 50 mi in now elevation done 5,450 is done about 2,000 calories feeling all right my lower back’s starting to give me a bit of grief though uh um so yeah I’m just on the edge of the York dals now and pedaling by myself yeah just going to push on now to the next feed station that’s around about 64 miles in got a few bananas and gels on pocket I’ll check in soon [Music] oh well well well we are just over halfway now the sun has come out and is starting to roast roast me all over so I’ve taken my arms off just come up a big climb I think out of laburn or somewhere just after that I still can’t believe it’s only half 11 in the morning ride time so far is about 5 hours 80 m in so yeah just over halfway quite hard to believe I’ve still got almost all that to do again now but I’ve been meeting some sound people on the ride the feed has been brilliant um big shout out to saan who’s put all the feed stations on um out the kindness of his heart cuz he didn’t want to see the riders today you know go with no food or fuel throughout the ride um yeah he’s done a brilliant job putting it on last minute due to um sporty HQ going under as you all know so I’m just going to push on now I think we’ve got a relatively flat section around about 83 mil until about 110 coming in and I’ve got a note on my phone next feed is around about 91 miles there also a really good tip here is on sport teames if you don’t like putting stickers on your top tube just put um piece of paper in your phone case if it’s clear obviously now just put some key stuff there like where the climbs are where the feeds are and any other points I want to make note of in my head because so la I always seem to forget as soon as I hit the [Applause] road so it looks like the 10hour target time I had in mind for this event I think I’m actually going to be it somewhat right now we’re sat on around about 110 Mi uh I’m 6 and 1 half an 6 and 1/2 hours in so I’ve literally got 3 and 1/ half hours to do 40 miles I think it’s pretty much doable I know there’s quite a few claims coming up now for the north yor MOS which you can’t see but anyway so yeah really really pleased about that so just going to go a bit more on the pedals smashing it finally got my arms out got the arm warmers off the rain jacket off and it feels like summer I might even have some dodgy BB shorts hand lines as well at the end of this the sun’s been out most of the day so time to get my head down see if we can smash this 10hour target all right was it 25 mil go 20 miles to go we can do it we can do it baby we can do it yeah baby just 5 miles away now and I cannot wait to get off of the seat my ass is killing me and get a beer from the beach we go bro I made another a Ribble friend as always we can see the sea May on whiy can’t believe did that really pleased the time it was kind of hard in places easy in some I don’t even know if I found at the finish line yet they’ve gone to find the car so I’m rolling over an imaginary Finish Line by myself yippe [Music] there’s the famous jawbones please subscribe to the yor Please Subscribe see this button right here just give it a like and tap it

    1. I rode to seascale to the start line from Doncaster.. so went over wynrose and hardknott both ways that day. Definitely sketchy at 3am in the rain and dark though.. wouldnt recommend it 🤣👍

    2. Oh the memories of hardknott are flooding back haha. Alot of videos don't seem to capture the steepness of it whereas this 1 certainly did.

What camera mount were you using for the descents?

My footage is just too bumpy having the go pro attached under the head unit
